“"PEN" INMATES TO STAND TRIAL IN SIX GROUPS,” St. John Evening Times Globe. April 5, 1933. Page 5. ---- Dorchester Penitentiary Riots in January Bring 17 Men Before Court ---- DORCHESTER, April 4 - (Special) There are six criminal cases, involving 17 Dorchester penitentiary prisoners, and three non-jury civil cases on the docket of the Westmorland County Court, which opened here this afternoon, Judge A. W. Bennett, Sackville, presiding.

True bills were returned by the grand jury after deliberation of one hour and 15 minutes in the criminal cases, in which the accused are inmates who have been sent up for trial by Magistrate C. G. M. Chapman on charges of rioting and causing damage to the workshops and other parts of the prison on Jan. 7 last, when a number of guards and prisoners were injured. 

Of the 18 prisoners sent up for trial on these charges, one, Percy Alexander, has been tried already, and has been sentenced to two more years in prison.

To Be Tried in Groups The 17 accused will be tried in groups, as follows: Group 1, Alex. Carvery, Geo. Walker, C. Jackson and James Izzard (It is not expected that Izzard will appear in court with this group as he is ill at present at the penitentiary); group 2, Martelle Silver, James Weatherbee, Edward Roberts and John McDonald; group 3, Corbett Boyd, Philp Corsaler, Herbert Hollingsworth and Stanley Sullivan; group 4, Rufus Gaudet, Robert Guthro and James Murphy; group & Raoul Beauchamp; group 6, Frederick Bevis.

The trials of members of Group 1 will be begun when court resumes tomorrow morning. The Crown will be represented In all cases by H. Murray Lambert, Moneton, and E. C. Weyman, Saint John, the latter of whom was counsel at the preliminary hearings of the 18 prisoners for Warden George T. Goad, who laid the informations.

Allowed Freedom During the absence of the grand jury from the court room, the case of Thomas and Joseph Boudreau, Moncton, brothers, was disposed of. E. R. McDonald, K.C., Shediac appeared in the interest of the brothers. Mr. Lambert, who represented the Crown in the three previous trials of the Boudreau brothers, said that he had received word from the attorney-general's department to the effect that the Boudreau brothers were to be given their freedom on their own recognizances, to appear at any time. the court ruled. This was granted by the court on payment of $500 each. The Boudreau brothers were charged with attempting to extort $5,000 from Mrs. Whitehouse, wife of Rev. G. K Whitehouse, former pastor of the Highfield Baptist Church, Moncton. At each trial the jury disagreed. They were represented at their trials. by E. R. McDonald and Roscoe H. Allen, Moncton.

2. What are some bands you discovered/started listening to this year?

Speaking of 2021, I started listening to Metallica. I knew a few songs of them, but never came to the point I wanted to listen to their discography. I became obsessed with them. As for 2022, I'm planning to listen more to Iron Maiden, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Muse, Pink Floyd... just to name a few.

6. Musician who’s solo career you like more than their work with their bands?

For western bands, I don't really have any names I can think of. And as a former Korean pop fan, I'd say Jessica Jung is the name I would drop here. I liked her more when she went solo, after leaving the group Girls' Generation. I feel like she shines more on her solo albums and she is also a fashion brand owner and she also has written two YA books (the second one comes out in May, can't wait). I feel like she is shining more after leaving her group.

8. What bands did a friend get you into?

None of which I can think of actually :(

9. What decade do you think has the best music?

80s! I feel like I can escape from reality when I listen to this stuff. It's better constructed and this music isn't meaningless, compared to shit today. But, I'm not going to lie, 50s-70s are close behind on my choice.

10. What singer do you think has the best voice?

Maaannn, this is a hard one. There are so many great vocalists out there, I can't pick just one. So let me pick a few for both men and women.

Men: Freddie Mercury, Nik Kershaw, James Hetfield, Eddie Vedder, Michael Jackson, David Bowie

Women: Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Floor Jansen

18. What band do you own the most merch of?

Though Metallica is coming closer, that title still goes to Duran Duran. I own a lot of them, it's crazy if I think about it. I have a VHS of them, just like posters, old magazines, vinyls (mostly singles), CDs et cetera.

19. Do you have any music posters/tapestries/etc?

I do actually. I have posters of Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Metallica, 2 K-Pop groups that still hold a soft spot in my heart (the first two I started of with) and I even have some scraps of Warrant.

48. What’s a band that fans ruined for you?

Queen, although I still love the band for their music. Their fans attack Adam Lambert for literally the most ridiculous reason, including ''Adam is replacing Freddie''. The same can be counted for Metallica, because their fans blame Robert Trujillo for Jason's departure and basically the band becoming miserable. Like? Robert can't be blamed for all the bad stuff that happened before he entered the picture. Lastly, I wanna add the whole K-Pop genre. The fans have become really toxic and the current generation (generation 4) feel like they can say whatever they want, while thinking they get away with everything (... is problematic and racist, you must like ... because you don't have taste if you don't etc.). No wonder why I left the K-Pop fandom after 9 years, thank god I did.
