Morgan Heritage Electrifies Central Park in Powerful Tribute to Peetah Morgan
Waves of joy, excitement, and nostalgia rolled through Central Park as Morgan Heritage took the stage for their SummerStage show on Saturday, August 10. That evening, thousands of fans filled Rumsey Playfield for an event that served as a homecoming for the trailblazing Reggae band, a celebration of VP Records’ 45th anniversary, and a tribute to Peetah Morgan, the band’s beloved brother and lead singer, who tragically passed away in February.
So, when the headliners began their set with the title track to their Grammy award winning album “Strictly Roots, accompanied by images of Peetah on the screen behind them, the massive crowd greeted them with a chorus of cheers.
The event, produced by the City Parks Foundation in partnership with Capital One and presented by VP Records and CTBC Music Group, marked a pivotal moment for the Grammy-winning group, returning to New York City to reconnect with their roots their hometown since the ascension of their beloved Peetah Morgan.
Siblings and band members Gramps, Lukes, Mojo, and Una, along with Gramps’ son, Jemere Morgan, played beloved hits like “Down by the River,” “Brooklyn and Jamaica,” and “Mount Zion Medley,” while also using the show to bridge the gap between past and future.
Throughout their set, they honored their late patriarch Denroy Morgan and introduced a new generation of talent through Bria Ariel, Priel, Raiah and Esh Morgan, who are carrying the torch forward for the “Royal Family of Reggae.”
The audience remained lively throughout, partly due to the immense talent that preceded the band and that joined them on stage. The show, hosted by Pat McKay, featured sets from Reggaelation Sound, Massive B (Bobby Konders & Jabba), legendary selector Lion Face, and DJ Norie of Power 105.1. A highlight was when surprise guest Sharon Marley took the stage for a heartfelt rendition of “No Woman, No Cry,” with the lyrics changed to “No mama, No cry.” Morgan Heritage’s hour-and-a-half-long set was further energized by surprise appearances from Ras Shiloh and Tarrus Riley, both of whom matched the hype of the crowd.
Morgan Heritage shared, “To see the love and support from our family, friends, and most of all, our fans, the Loyal Royals, was truly amazing. We’re grateful to our family, Chris & Randy Chin, and the entire team at VP Records, the city of New York, and Central Park SummerStage for making it possible for us to celebrate the life of our brother Peetah Morgan and the legacy we’ve built together in the place we were born. Big Brooklyn every time!
They continued: “Our children were also extremely happy to feel the support they received. As the next generation, we are preparing to carry on the legacy. The future is bright, and we will continue doing what we love until the year 3000 and beyond. We’ll see you in a city near you very soon, and never forget that we love you all. ROCKAZ!”
“Bringing Morgan Heritage back to New York for this event was essential, not just for the band but for everyone involved,” said Randy Chin, President of VP Records.“The connection between the band and their fans, especially as they honored Peetah and introduced the next generation, was something special. It’s incredible to see the community celebrate life, music, and legacy on this scale, and we’re proud to have played a role in making this moment possible. We’re also excited to see how their story unfolds from here.”
Morgan Heritage has been a cornerstone in Reggae music for decades. Since its formation in 1994, the band has headlined festivals across the globe and released over a dozen studio albums, winning the Grammy Award for Reggae Album of the Year in 2016 for Strictly Roots and earning a second nomination in 2018 for Avrakedabra. Peetah Morgan, known for his soulful voice and profound lyrics, played a pivotal role in the band’s success and influence in the

Mosiah x Teacha Dee - Economic Slavery
Babylon system nah work - so fortunately Mosiah and Teacha Dee put their workforce into the studio which resulted in a rebellious steppers collaboration, titled Economic Slavery.
The track, produced by Ragatac Music and played by the Mystic Rockaz Band kicks off with a catchy horn theme before trinidadian singjay Mosiah (Reggae Sweet) awakens the minds to the current state of the system, its demands and unbenificial labor cycle.
He is joined by jamaican reggae singer Teacha Dee (Rastafari Way) to bring forth this musical revelation, filled with melodies and a solid message to give hope that we will make it out of the system one day.

Yeshie Renee scores big in music
Tumblr media
Yeshie Renee scores big in music with her current single titled "Boom", released in January 2O23 on the Big Zeeko imprint, ready to explode. #YeshieRenee BigZeeko #Jamaica #Dancehall Born Rennae Wright, this is not a co-incident. This sexy, talented songstress keeps commanding a yes stare as she walks along her musical journey. Yeshie keeps saying, "I am always giving my fans the wow moments of their lives and I love this feeling." Her current single titled "Boom", released in January 2O23 on the Big Zeeko imprint, is ready to explode while others, including "Commotion" and "Bring Back The Love" are bubbling like a volcano. She has the perfect figure aged five when she started in music. "I began to enter talent contests and along with my brother Majah Bless, a reggae recording artiste, I won a number of awards." It was much more than just winning as former Prime Minister of Jamaica Edward Seaga (now deceased) would take her with him to perform at many functions throughout Jamaica. That gave her more than a mouthful of confidence and exposure to win the world. "These were some glorious moments as even adults were amazed by my grace and talent", she added. Yeshie's upbringing in Denham Town, an inner-city community, helped to mould her dreams of becoming a star and when she migrated to London, England in 2001, she came with a wealth of experience having several years performing with the Tivoli Gardens Cultural Group, the island's premier trophy lifter in festivals. Her talent went far and wide having appeared in London's Hackney Gazette Newspaper. This was after some amazing performances at the Hackney Empire Theatre. She did take a break but this was to change a few spark plugs and when she returned the lights were glowing brighter. "I am now working on some projects with Flo1 based in Toronto, Canada. She recorded her first single " Bring back The Love" along with a video that was to unite people, a movement that Marcus Garvey would have loved to see among blacks worldwide. (Photo courtesy of Yeshie Renee)At first blush, DiPiazza’s in Long Beach seems like any other well-run, family-owned restaurant—close to the beach—in Southern California; nothing about the establishment immediately screams out sensational reggae, but, with assistance from legendary sound engineer Scientist, that’s just what DiPiazza’s served up recently, the evening of February 26. Headlining the show, as aforementioned, was my good friend Scientist (also known as Hopeton Brown); as 'Mighty', lead singer for the ebullient and entertaining opening band 'Special Blend' wisely observed: “If you don’t know how to get dubbed out, check out the Scientist; and if you don’t know how to do that, go ahead and slap yourself one time.” Fortunately no self-slapping was observed or necessary, however, because, by the time the headliners took the stage, one could tell most of the concert-goers (including yours truly, of course) knew exactly who Scientist is (and further, as a result of such knowledge, "how to get dubbed out"). Indeed, before and after the show a steady stream of fans approached Scientist—toting his old albums—to seek his famous signature. Also, importantly, it was clear the staff at DiPiazza’s shared the same respect for Scientist that everybody with a basic knowledge of reggae should have. Unlike some venues where I’ve witnessed no-name 'house' sound engineers quibble with Scientist—when he is working to ensure the highest sound quality from the available equipment—all the staff at DiPiazza’s listened to Scientist’s instructions throughout the performance (and earlier in the day during the sound check), assisting him helpfully when called upon. The headlining act Scientist mixed—after Special Blend performed to a jovial, good natured, and growing crowd—was dynamic singer-percussionist Odel Johnson; Johnson performed with the 'Rootz Dub Rockaz' which included: legendary Soul Syndicate guitarist Tony Chin, legendary Soul Syndicate drummer Santa Davis, veteran keyboardist Michael Hyde, veteran guitarist 'Chizzy', Detour Posse bass player Ray 'Big Blunt' Myrie, and, young trumpeters Glenn Holdaway and Liam Robertson. Johnson’s entire set was soulful and sweet; he thrilled the crowd with a combination of original songs and reggae standards—including a healthy serving of tunes by icons Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. Johnson was ably assisted onstage by 'Ms. B Royal', a popular repeat-singer at DiPiazza’s; in fact it must be noted that there were a number of times during the night where Ms. B Royal threatened to steal the show—including during a thrilling solo ode to marijuana that caused already jubilant patrons to erupt in wild applause. The electric performance culminated with a truly unexpected spiritual delight: Haile Maskel, bassist and lead vocalist of 'The Rastafarians', a revered musician and singer, happened to be in the crowd; spotted by Johnson, Maskel was invited onstage where he delivered a stirring rendition of Satta Massagana (by the Abysinnians). Bless up reggae fans, and please enjoy the photos and video footage I shot at the show!FacebookTwitterInstagramYoutube Read the full article

Morgan Heritage Homecoming: A Tribute to Peetah Morgan at Central Park SummerStage on August 10
New Post has been published on https://plugzafrica.com/morgan-heritage-homecoming-a-tribute-to-peetah-morgan-at-central-park-summerstage-on-august-10/
Morgan Heritage Homecoming: A Tribute to Peetah Morgan at Central Park SummerStage on August 10
Morgan Heritage is honoured to announce a headlining performance at SummerStage in celebration of Peetah Morgan’s life and the band’s legacy. The show, dubbed “Morgan Heritage Homecoming: A Tribute to Peetah Morgan,” will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on August 10 at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, New York City. Admission is free.
Produced by the City Parks Foundation in collaboration with Capital One and presented by VP Records alongside CTBC Music Group, the concert brings the Grammy Award-winning reggae group – featuring siblings Gramps, Lukes, Mojo, Una, and next-generation member Jemere Morgan – back for its first live show in their native New York City since 2019.
The band will be joined by Massive B (Bobby Konders & Jabba), legendary selector Lion Face, DJ Norie of Power 105.1, host Pat McKay; and their family, friends, and fans for an evening of uplifting roots reggae music.
“The legacy we built over the last 25+ years wouldn’t have been possible without Randy and Chris Chin and our entire family at VP Records. So it was no coincidence VP Records saw it befitting to partner with the group and our team at CTBC Music Group to honor our beloved brother and lead singer Peetah Morgan in the place of our birth.
We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from all around the world, and we can’t wait to continue the legacy on such a legendary stage at Central Park SummerStage. It will be another Rockaz moment!” said Morgan Heritage. The concert also coincides with VP Records’ 45th anniversary.
Randy Chin, President of VP Records, said, “We’re honored to play a part in Morgan Heritage’s homecoming at SummerStage, especially as we pay tribute to Peetah Morgan, whose legacy continues to inspire us all. Our relationship with the Morgan family has been built over decades of collaboration, mutual respect, and a shared passion for reggae music. So this event, bringing it back to where it all began, is a full-circle moment for all of us. It’s a celebration of their incredible journey and the timeless impact they’ve had on the music and culture.”
Peetah Morgan, known for his soulful voice and profound lyrics, played a pivotal role in the band’s success and influence in the genre.
Join the FREE CONCERT and an unforgettable evening as we celebrate the legacy of Morgan Heritage and pay tribute to Peetah Morgan through music and community.
