I love "Rocknaldo" because I've never seen tumblr exclusionists being called out so hard so publically.

"Who are you to tell anyone how to be a Crystal Gem? You're just - you're just - a guy with a blog!"

Young immature person joins movement, immediately makes it about them, throws self into the thick of things doing zero research, talks incessantly about nothing else, starts criticising other members and very quickly moves on to trying to kick them out.

I have seen this happen in real time, with an immature person who lived their life on Tumblr, and that's exactly how it went. Decide they are [identity A], blog and reblog incessantly nothing but [A] issues and [A] memes, criticise and yell at me, a long-standing [A], when I disagreed with them on anything, start judging and trying to exclude long-standing [A] people, at no point reading anything about [A] history except whatever unsourced garbage crossed their Tumblr dash -- then flip identities, drop [identity A] and dive headlong into [identity B], rinse and repeat all the above except with added venom towards [A] people, the identity they had previously claimed.

"The Crystal Gems are about love and acceptance. But you've been acting really mean to me. And I don't love that. I don't accept that."

SU even got the gaslighting and tone policing spot on.

"I wish I hadn't snapped at you. It's just [...] This isn't the Bloodstone Club about making Bloodstone feel good. This is my entire life."

It's also very much about white cis men waltzing into a movement and expecting instant applause and attention for being omgliek so woketh??. That's the beauty of a good allegory. It can nail multiple things.

"I really thought you joined because you were interested in the Crystal Gems. But the second it wasn't about you, you stopped caring."

And the ending is optimistic. The child gets chastised by long-standing members, eventually actually listens, goes off and does their reading, and still wants to help but this time appropriately and respectfully. That's where the fantasy part comes in, of course, but it's also really not a high bar, for an ally or for a new community member.

We are not your homophobic parents. We are queer adults, your elders in this movement, and we don't deserve any of your venom. We are the Bismuths; we built this damn city from rock and the occasional roll. And we will not be told how to be Crystal Gems by someone who was calling us rock people last week.

If you come in and make contributions, make sure they're good ones, because we listen when you talk, but nobody is obliged to keep listening when you spit venom. We get enough of that from cishetallos. We have the right not to get any from fellow queers. And as we listen to you, expect to do a lot of listening to us. Just as Bismuth learns from and reconciles with Steven, Bismuth teaches and mentors Lapis and Peridot, and later gives Steven advice he needs too. That's how it should be.
