Recently, as a break from more literary activities, I granted myself a wonderful reprieve, late into the evening, watching film for the innocent, fairly non confrontational and relaxing ambiance of video; I chose to watch the three part mini series of “Death Comes To Pemberly” by P D James, based on the characters of the unmistakable and luminescent work of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”. At school this book was on my O Level literature syllabus, and as a young girl and still today, it is among my favorite books, with a timeless entrancing plot, views through frames of English class, culture, sartorial, military and bucolic structures and the most unforgettable romantic couple ever created. Over time, I enjoyed various film adaptations, from Kiera Knightly’s Elizabeth Bennett to Colin Firths, Mr. Darcy, savoring the classic tension, the setting, the repartee and many more elements of Austen’s novel, in this light, I savored DCTP as a chance to reacquaint with the characters that faithfully linger in a parallel world, in the imaginative realm of words left unsaid and the limitless potential of what could happen after the parting words of a beloved book.
