Joining in with #meetthemakerweek .. and today’s prompt is ‘inspiration’! This little lady pictured above was the initial inspiration ... to be honest the reason I made them in the first place was out of complete desperation!! Our first year of school was so challenging (and that’s putting it VERY politely). I’ve never been so pushed in my entire life, and I’ve been a mountaineer in the Dolomites, run million pound projects in digital marketing, been a youth worker and done tonnes more difficult jobs, but nothing comes close to trying to manage this little girl! I love the fact she has a back bone and I’m sure it will be useful in the future! But seriously parenting a stubborn, determined, obstructive, tired, emotional and overwhelmed child is HARD work! The reason it was so hard was not necessarily because she has these traits but because our timelines became more restricted, due to school start times, getting ready was an absolute nightmare, and broke me EVERY morning. There is no exaggeration here, I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. And after school was equally if not worse! Exhausted and angry, my child would be washed up onto the playground and I had to swim back home with her. We were both exhausted and ill all the time from stress. I designed these cards in order to improve the morning routine. I found that once my child was given more control, she started to enjoy those tasks usually she would avoid. We were working together, I was nagging less and she doing more.
