With siblings theres usually power struggles, so it’s nice to be able to use the cards to help them build compromising and negotiation skills!!! Working as a team to create a plan that works for everyone. There are many obstacles that lie in the way of them simply brushing their teeth! One of which is their ability to actually wanting to do it in the first place! Trying to shimmy them into the bathroom EVERY morning ... pleading with them to come brush their teeth is sooooooooo tiring and boring!!! Do you find this? My cards do help with the initial enthusiasm of wanting to do it because you create a game out of a mundane task. It gives them control and the illusion of being in control removes the obstacle! We’ve set our routine for the morning! It now includes feeding the pet, as we bought fish at the weekend! Anyhow this little one seems happy with it and has decided to divide the routine between two rooms! I’ve introduced making a bed!!!!! Let’s see how that goes 😜. For those who read the blog post yesterday thanks, people have been very kind about me being so honest. But what I realised is that I didn’t write about how extremely proud I am of my summer born, she held her own at school, learning to read, performing in plays, creating such wonderful work, speaking french and spanish and most importantly making friends and enjoying herself. It was a big year for such a little person who had only just had 4 years on the planet! I will forever be proud of you, (queue welling up with tears!!!!!) .... so here’s to a new start, a new year. Creating routines can eliminate tension in families. I often use the routine like a second mother! “Well what does the routine say is next? “ ... that way it’s not me nagging her to do stuff.
