OKAY. I finally managed to carve down an actually simplified version of the offline pocket edition I made for the excellent RPGSolo system. I definitely have more things in mind to expand on as options for players who want them, and this draft is Rough and near entirely unedited because I pounded it out in like half an hour during a migraine, oops, BUT! It should be fully functional as it is currently, and I hope people enjoy it as much as I have been.
(Also, if you like it I encourage you to go give the creator of the original site some support! This wouldn't exist without his work, and there's all kinds of neat extra tools and in-depth explanations to be found there and on the forums. Go check it out!)
-----
-
To play, you will need a d100 (percentile dice), a d10, and a Likelihood table. One is provided below, but you may substitute your own percentages if you want to tweak your chances.
• A way to record the events of your game and/or to keep track of bonuses and penalties is recommended, but not required.
RPGSolo runs on the Yes, And/No, But system.
• Yes, and...: Not only is the outcome successful, but it's better than you expected; you are even better off than you would have been from achieving what you meant to do. Situations you are observing turn out to have some extra good news involved, or you gain even more thorough insight than you were looking for at first.
• Yes: You achieve your goal.
• Yes, but...: You achieve your goal, but there's a hitch or it comes at a cost.
• No, but: You fail your goal, but not completely. If you are making an observation, the situation isn't great, but there's a silver lining.
• No: You fail your goal.
• No, and...: Not only is the outcome a failure, but it's even worse than you thought, and/or you're worse off than if you had left it alone.
The Likelihood of a given roll dictates how likely you are to receive one of the above six outcomes. Each Likelihood lists the corresponding results on a scale from 1 to 100.
• No matter the Likelihood you are rolling from, there will always be a chance no matter how small to roll each outcome. Almost Impossible has a tiny chance to roll 'Yes, and...' and Sure Thing has a tiny chance to roll 'No, and...'
Optionally: you may add modifiers to increase or decrease your chances in a given scenario. Your character might be a trained fighter; they might have a sprained ankle; they might have found a flashlight; they may have a bad reputation in town which makes interactions with the townsfolk more hostile.
• Each point on a modifier counts for +1 or -1 Likelihood. A +1 turns a 50/50 into a Somewhat Likely, a -3 turns a Likely into a Somewhat Unlikely, and so on.
• Some modifiers make a bigger difference than others. A friendly demeanor might add a +1 bonus to checks involving interactions with the surly townsfolk, where that sprained ankle might be a -3 penalty to attempts to move quickly.
• Optionally: you may also add modifiers to change the outcome of a roll, not the Likelihood; a 'No, but...' becomes a 'Yes, but...' for example. These have a much stronger influence on your game, and you may want to use them sparingly.
• You may assign modifiers to your player characters--or other characters, or locations, or anything else--ahead of time, or you may add or remove modifiers during play as you feel they are appropriate.
At the beginning of each turn, decide what action you want to take, what observations you want to make, or what happens in the world around you.
Roll 1d10 to determine the difficulty of an action.
• 1: Almost Impossible
• 2: Very Unlikely
• 3: Unlikely
• 4: Somewhat Unlikely
• 5: 50/50
• 6: Somewhat Likely
• 7: Likely
• 8: Very Likely
• 9: Sure Thing
• 10: Reroll with +1 bonus (or just reroll, if you'd rather)
Add any appropriate modifiers to determine the Likelihood of the roll.
If you check the Likelihood of a roll and don't like your chances, you can choose not to pursue it.
• If there are any rolls you might want to come back to and try again later, you may want to make a note of it on the side. You might decide to leave a door with an alarm alone until you can find some tools to disarm it with, for example.
If you decide to proceed, roll 1d100 and consult the appropriate Likelihood table.
Add any appropriate outcome modifiers to determine the result.
Decide how to interpret the result.
• In case of wording you're not sure of ('do the guards notice me?' for example), a lower outcome is generally negative. You may want to write out the translated result next to the 'yes, and/no, but' result, for the sake of clarity.
• If you're rolling to decide between multiple options instead of for negative/positive outcomes, you may use your d10 as a yes/no oracle, or use 'yes, and/no, but' to roll for the degree to which the result falls between the presented options.
• Oracle between 2 options:
• 1-5: No/First option
• 6-10: Yes/Second option
• Oracle between 3 options:
• 1-3: No/First Option
• 4-6: Neither/Both/In-Between/Second option
• 7-9: Yes/Third option
• 10: Reroll, or secret fourth option
If you want to make more than one roll to determine what's going on before you continue the narrative, feel free to make as many in a row as you want before you describe what happens.
Optionally: you can use a Do-Over to redo a roll, or directly choose your outcome, if you really don't want to continue with what you got.
• It's recommended that you limit the number of these you have access to, if you want to keep some challenge in your game (5 Do-Overs per scene, for example), but you don't have to. You can do it as many times as you want; it comes down to what's most fun for you.
Write out what happens as a result of the outcome you rolled, until you reach the next point where you want the dice to show you the way.
Happy roleplaying!

Solo RPG!

Breaking out the Campaign Creator from @shieldicestudio to see how our monk arrived in Worivat and rolled a d6. Yes. Worivat is a port with docks. Brilliant. I’ve been trying to get into solo-ttrpg’s lately, and https://www.rpgsolo.com/ is a phenomenal resource.
You end up with a sort of half-prompt writing, half-rpg experience. I did a quick shadowrun game using only rpgsolo (And a few other generators for names) under the cut.
https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/book-title-generator.php for the adventure name https://shadowrun.itemcards.com/runners for character name or other various things that might be tricky for rpg solo https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/elf_names.php - elven names, since the above link doesn't have them
Cowboy Diablo in... Soldier of the Dead
Can cowboy diablo use magic? (No) Is cowboy diablo a soldier? (No, and...) they never will be.
I wasn't getting anywhere with character creation through yes/no, so I did 'Get Skill' 3 times * Leadership * Concentration * Mountaineering
Does cowboy diablo know the soldier of the dead? (No)
Where am I- get setting- (Setting is opulent mansion involving below average artisan tools and broken laser scalpel.)
Who is there?- get NPC- (Ditzy female student)
What do they want? - get quest- (Escort royalty to the dilapidated town square.)
Is the town square far? (No, but...) the journey is dangerous
"Will this pay well?"
"Yes" said the student. She was a relative of some Tir prince.
I asked her name- Alanis Presrona.
We left at night. I led her through the alleyways, hoping to avoid the worst of the danger.
(No, and...)
I was unsuccessful. My paranoia bit me in the back- all I had done was isolate her and myself from any help. We were quickly surrounded.
Get NPC- (Humble power suit)
Out of the shadows stepped a man in hi-tech armor. Glowing red lights lit up around me-
2d6 (10)
Ten operatives, just for this kid. She had a stern face, but couldn't help taking a step towards me.
"Back away from the girl and we'll make this quick," the man said. The voice was nearly robotic.
Did I draw first? (No, and...)
The man saw me go for the pistol at my hip. He shot me clean in the chest, and I collapsed. As my vision faded to black, another one tased Alanis, and took her off into the night.
Do I wake up quickly? (No)
Where will I wake up- get setting (Setting is launch pad involving rocket launcher and very high quality gas mask.)
I struggled to breathe, clawing at my face. I kicked out with my foot, and found a wall. I slowly opened my eyes, finding myself floating in a glass tube filled with nutrient. There were a few technicians around, but one man caught my eye.
Was this the soldier of the dead? (No, but...) I wouldn't recognize him even if I saw him.
Who is this- get NPC (Hyper manager)
It was another giddy young suit in her early thirties. She saw me wake and began to gloat. "Most of my peers despise runners like you. They fail to see the opportunities that come from bodies that no one will miss, and no one would want to look for. Strong bodies, too, I think."
Can I hear her gloating through the glass? (No)
I could make out a few words here and there from the way her lips moved. It looked like the same old nonsense.
I kicked out at the glass, trying to break it. (Yes, and...)
The force of my kick snapped the lines that kept me suspended. I collapsed and fell to my knees. I probably had a few seconds before security arrived. I ripped the mask off my face and heaved.
Was my chest still wounded? (Yes)
I coughed up blood and tried to stand. (No)
I collapsed once more. The suit recovered from her shock, and laughed mirthlessly. She walked over to me and tried to kick me in the head. (No, and...)
I reached out and grabbed her leg, tripping her.
Is she armed? (Yes)
I tried to take her pistol away from her (Yes, but...)
I fought for the pistol with the last of my strength and levelled it at her. We were both still laying on the ground, when security rushed in.
Get NPC (Calm corporal)
"Put the weapon down, prisoner." said a guard with a velvet voice.
I struggled to rise, and keep the weapon trained on the suit. (Yes)
She was still on the ground while I evaluated the situation. Out of the windows was not the night sky, but space. We were on some sort of orbital facility.
Security shuffled nervously. Their corporal maintained her calm, "There's no way out."
Is there a vent? (No, but...)
There was a waste chute nearby. Just large enough for me. Perhaps that was the point, if they ever had any 'failed' experiments.
Can I make it to the chute before security gets me? (No, and...)
The corporal watches my gaze. The second I turn my attention away from the suit, she shoots me with an electric taser gun.
Can I push through the pain? (No)
I sleep once more.
Where do I wake- get place (Collective signal tower) [I got nothing, so I combined it] (Setting is jail involving ammo bandolier and mutated metropolis.)
I woke up on the orbital, still- or maybe it was another one. I was in a cell this time.
Am I healed? (Yes)
My wounds were gone. Either their nutrient solution was that good, or it had been a long time.
I wanted to get back to Earth.
I might continue this session later, we’ll see.

today on my When All You Have is a D10 project: Rolling a 6 with a D100.
-
1-16: Option 1
17-32: Option 2
33-48: Option 3
49-64: Option 4
65-80: Option 5
81-96: Option 6
97-100: Reroll
-
if you get that last one you can reroll the ones column, tens column, or both, up to you. tune in next time for so fucking help me i WILL find an efficient way to substitute dice for a deck of playing cards
#solo rpgs#solo ttrpgs#ttrpg tables#i doubt this is something people haven't figured out many times already; but! it's useful and i hadn't seen it anywhere#and it was enough of a hassle that i figured i'd save some time for anybody who also will find it useful and hadn't seen it elsewhere#also i know it would maybe be more in the spirit of the thing to call it 'when all you have is a d100'#because a *lot* of the time that's effectively what you're rolling for; and maybe i will change the name to that#but you could do it with just a d10! it'd be really annoying in some cases because you have to roll d10 twice for a d100! but you could!#current parameters of the challenge are 'make the roll without having to reroll anything below a 90 or a 10'#i made the rpgsolo hack to be playable with only a d10 and d100 and it was fun enough that i wanted to do more with that#also i will be fair and say that the dice deck thing is not necessarily when all you have is a d10. i will take any dice combo that works#my disabled ass can't use physical cards; and physical dice are dodgy#but there are a LOT more digital dice rollers out there than there are digital card deck tools#let alone ones that don't rely on an online server; let alone ones that actually work on mobile#it is A Quest of Mine and i have zero experience with game jams but i am legit considering poking at hosting one for this#in particular because there's like 5000 ways you could do it and it would be nice to give people accessibility options#in case whatever go-to i jury-rig for myself doesn't jive with them#it does count as awkward tables initiative to me though so it goes under the same banner as this one#when all you have is a d10 project#awkward tables initiative#RPGSolo#ttrpg tag#whosebaby does game dev#whosebaby makes things#edit: literally less than a half hour after posting this i found. the simplest possible way to draw a card with dice. wheezes#figuring out a method to keep TRACK of a deck efficiently is probably another story but OH MY GOD. IT'S BEEN A YEAR#AMAZING

My answers, edited for interest, and to reflect my solo play habits :-)
FOR THE PLAYER
Race: What's your favorite race to play? Is there a race you default to or play more often?
Human, because I am a Basic Bitch.
Class: What's your favorite class to play? What's your favorite character build you've ever played?
Warlock. Great Old One Tome Pact Warlock to be specific. Hashtag Cthulhu.
Playtest: What class (or subclass) do you want to try out?
Maybe play an Elf from B/X edition.
Level One: What was your first experience with D&D? How did you hear about it? What was your first game like?
My first ever introduction to D&D came through a box of Ral Partha minis my buddy had. We didn’t know what Advanced Dungeons & Dragons was, but the minis looked cool. And they were made of lead!
My first experience actually playing was after I’d moved to a new town, and made a new friend, and went to his birthday party. His older brother ran a game for us. I made an Elf (this was Basic D&D, where Elf was both your class and race.) At the end, the older brother told us that I would be the DM from now on, much to my surprise.
Skill: Do you prefer RP, combat, or something else? Is there a part of the game you consider yourself best at?
I like a good mix, I guess. I mostly play solo now, though, so I’m both player and GM. Thank goodness for Mythic and RPGSolo dot com.
Crit Fail: Have you ever had a character death? What happened?
It was the mid-late 80s, and TSR had released Battlesystem, and my wargame-loving best friend was all over that. My minotaur character faced a horde of kobolds alone so the rest of the party could escape the dungeon. My minotaur was eaten by kobolds!
Dungeon Court: What's the worst D&D experience you've ever had?
Played Pathfinder with a group a few years ago. Nice people, but they’d regularly get into just shooting the shit, and not even about anything interesting. For real, they went on for a good half hour, 45 minutes talking about the domestication of sheep. I left that group.
FOR THE DM
Leveling: What's your ideal starting party level? What leveling system do you use?
I like starting at level one and going up from there. I usually fizzle out around 5th or 6th level, though. I used to use Milestone leveling exclusively, but since I’ve gone back to pencil and paper, I’ve found I like XP better.
TPK: Have you ever had a game go completely off the rails? TPK? How did you adjust?
As a solo player beholden to random die rolls and Mythic’s Fate Chart, things have gotten squirrelly a number of times, but it usually resulted in my character dying gloriously.
Homebrew: Do you have any house rules or homebrews you use? What are they?
I like a max damage plus an extra die roll for crits. Since it’s a solo game, I might use 4th Edition’s rests (5 minute short rest, 8 hour long rest.)
