With all the whining and hand-wringing about the ending of “No Time Like the Past,” I was really expecting something... bigger, in terms of how it screwed with the timeline.

Season 3 of RTA never had an episode where Rapunzel goes back in time and convinces Eugene to be less selfish which not only undermines his character arc in the movie but also would mean that a less selfish Eugene would have tried to help the Stabbington Brothers up that rock and been caught and thus never found Rapunzel's tower, what are you talking about??? That's just not a thing that happened

I totally should be doing alchemy chemistry but I can’t do that when I’m distracted by Apple support chat so we’re going to talk about RTA instead!!!! Because I’m three episodes deep and I haven’t written a lick about anything!!!!

First off, the new intro:

It’s great and I love how it’s focusing on tying in the mythology even more as we enter the third and final season. ALSO cute AF little doodle of Varian in the journal!!! I forget about it every time I watch so its always a nice little surprise :) I really appreciate how we have both the standard character cuts (especially Varian’s puppy dog face) AND ya know, that whole thing with bad-ass Cass AKA what seems to be the main plot right now.

Something I’ve gathered about the journal: I feel like it’s contents are a large indicator to what’s going to happen in the series, so seeing Varian in there is a huge sigh of relief. I absolutely love watching everyone do their thing, don’t get me wrong, but Varian just makes my heart happy.

Secondly, Cass cut scenes:

I’m a longtime fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender which was the master at scene cuts between characters/parallel plots. How RTA isn’t keeping Cass in the dark for great swaths of time, not to mention how they’ve been leading into her scenes is just basically brilliant.

Thirdly, the nods to previous characters:

I mean well duh they kinda have to do this anyways, but they sure could have completely dropped off Monty or Angry and Red Catalina and Kira and whatnot. In other words, they could have left them flat, 2D individuals but Catalina talks now? Hearing her speak was almost a Longshot from the Freedom Fighters moment and it really made my heart happy. Monty also is becoming less of a total butt, but I kinda did get Monty’s appeal when we first met him in season one. And then the Stabbington Brothers? That was kinda sweet that they showed up while Eugene and Edmund where bonding, both parties being reference’s to Eugene’s past. And then Eugene saved them, because ya know, he’s that type of person.

Side note on the Stabbingtons: They also kinda have to be there/semi-reoccurring like a gag almost, since they were at the wedding. Speaking of the wedding...

We’re getting so many references to the wedding??

There were a good handful before me that pointed out all the similarities/allusions to Tangled Ever After in the first episode, and THEN Edmund gives Eugene the Corona sash that he wears at the wedding?! Nice job guys. Really, really smooth and I’m NOT being sarcastic here.
