Valuable works of art steeped in history are often hung in pride of place above a mantlepiece or on the walls of a grand entrance hall. But not so this 400-year-old hidden treasure, which spent decades out of sight, behind the door of a Surrey cottage, before being stumbled upon by an antiques expert during a house clearance of a late collector.
...
Chris Kirkham, associate director at Hansons London spotted the painting while visiting the property, which was owned by a man, who has not been named, who collected paintings as a hobby. Kirkham commented that he ‘was surprised to find such a compelling portrait hidden away.’
He explained that the painting was likely to have been influenced by the Baroque artists Van Dyck and Reubens. Bearing the name Adriaen Verkins, possibly Dutch, the painting is dated 1626, when Charles I (1600-1649) was king of England, Scotland and Ireland. He lavished money on the arts and invited artists such as Van Dyck and Rubens to work in England.
(Note on the article: The subject of the painting is said to be a girl, and the name in the corner the artist's. However, the title reads "Adrian Verkins at age 1"; the sitter is presumably a little boy named Adrian. A quick internet search shows the grave of an Adrian Verkins in the Netherlands from 1704.)

The Masked Singer: S11 E2 (Group B First Round, Wizard of Oz Night)
Tonight’s episode sees Group B take the stage for the first time, and their songs will include bits from songs from the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. As always, I post before seeing any unmaskings, so these are guesses, not spoilers.
I am watching on a delay tonight and have avoided spoilers from tonight’s episode.
Gumball 🍬: I saw the sneak peek of his performance released yesterday, but without any clues I don’t have an idea of who he might be. Let’s get a look at the clues. From the South (with a heart around Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama), seen playing several instruments. I see a spider. My first impression was maybe AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys, but on the second listen I don’t think it sounds like him. I’m thinking he’s either a boy bander, a musical theater actor, or maybe both. The bonus clue: The Tin Man’s Heart, says he has the “heart of a superhero”. So maybe he played a superhero in a movie or a TV show? I think Jenny’s guess of Chace Crawford makes the most sense right now. (Jamie Dornan is from Ireland, I think, and Kevin Jonas is from New Jersey.)
Miss Cleocatra 🐈: Carried in on a litter (not a litter box). A sign reading “Bel-Air” and a “Vacay!” ticket. She was called a “national treasure”. Definitely sounds like an older woman. Is she perhaps one of the actresses who played Aunt Vivian on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? The bonus clue: A fairy wand, and she says she’s “worked her magic” on an Emmy Award-winning show. I think Robin’s guess of Loretta Devine makes the most sense here.
Afghan Hound 🐕: This hound’s legs are either those of a supermodel or a very convincing drag Queen. Apparently was on TV and had a family crisis. We also saw some golden house keys. My default guess is someone from a Real Housewives show. And based on her singing voice, she’s probably the one leaving the competition tonight. Ouch. The bonus clue: The Cowardly Lion’s Badge of Courage. She clarifies she was on TV with her family. I’m gonna guess one of the Richards sisters, just ‘cause.
Beets 🍠: Looks like there’s two of them. It sounds like these two are friends or are related. A radio, a book called “Beeting the Odds”. A crate of apples. Based on the sounds of their voices, I’m gonna say that this is Ruben Studdard & Clay Aiken from American Idol. While they faced off against each other on Idol, they’ve become very close friends over the years and they’ve even toured together recently. The bonus clue: Toto, saying “Like Dorothy and Toto, we’re the best of friends.” One beet’s voice is unmistakably Clay Aiken, and I’m pretty sure the other one is Ruben.
