i am obsessed with ruby supernatural as being one of the most unwaveringly devout characters on the show. so many angels and demons act in their own self-interest, disillusioned by god or lucifer or archangels or the entire structure of the afterlife. fine. but RUBY?!? a human. a witch. sells her soul. dedicates her life to lucifer. in death she is tortured and molded and shaped into a demon. and yet she still worships. she is recruited into the ultimate satanic plan, cast as the delilah of the apocalypse. she spends multiple years publicly siding with the beloathed winchesters, being seen as a traitor to her kind. being hunted. being tortured repeatedly at the hands of her brethren for treason. painstakingly slowly seducing sam, convincing sam. luring sam to enact the plan. she lets sam drink her blood. so much blood. she is the sacrificial lamb. she is the best of those sons of bitches. all to be killed. and she knows this. she has to have known this. and she doesn't care. she's done it, the holy work. incredible character.

being a woman in Supernatural world is so fucking horrifying. don't wear white, you will get fridged. don't be blonde, you will get fridged. Jessica Moore was forcibly stenciled into Mary Winchester's shape to turn the narrative engine of righteous violence. she's the inciting incident for the entire epic and we know literally nothing about her. bc why would we need to. the wife is the sister is the daughter is the mother and they're all dead, and they're all used as instruments to give men an excuse to cry. you can love a man and take him into your home for a year but you'll still never get close enough to touch him bc he's keeping you in a pristine little box of unsullied domesticity. he's keeping you SAFE and CLEAN. he's making arrangements for you. and when the narrative machine beckons he will set you gently back down and return to his real and important work. don't be a virgin, virgins get fridged. don't be a hellbitch, here comes the fridge. do NOT put on that white nightgown, that is the uniform of the fridge, but it's too late, you're already bleeding out on the ceiling, maybe you always have been.

Have you ever thought "What if the CW's Supernatural was about Meg Ruby and Ava?" Well. you have now. Since we're all on the same page, read the first two chapters of my Meg Ava Ruby fic, By Any Other Name. To be clear this is like a behind the scenes canon divergence not like, them taking on the roles of team free will. Here is a snippet:

"Your girl Ava, she believe in something?"  Intel never hurts. Besides, she is genuinely curious. What's got Azazel's number one gal barking up another skirt? 

"My girl," Meg's pride is obvious. One of those sins Ruby never really saw the big problem with. Along with gluttony, lust, sloth, envy, disrespect...it just doesn't strike her as all that fair. Then again, she is a demon. When's anything fair? "Ava believes, alright." 

"...anything you tell her?" 

Maybe Meg's just looking to brag about a skilled manipulation. Ruby kinda wants to brag about winding Sam up, but she can't talk too far into the plan. Better for Meg to believe she's a loser, even if it rankles. 

"No," Meg says, drawn out, teasing, then she skips a few steps ahead and spins around on her toes. There's an energy in her Ruby hasn't seen before, not in all their years side by side on the racks. Not that there's much cause for conversation down there. If you're caught slacking you might just end up back under the knife yourself, to be shown how it's done. That's why it's hard to trust a demon. The only thing that unites them is that they're all so fucking scared. 

"Spit it out, then."  "She believes in me."

Ruby laughs again, hysterical, unstoppable, cruel. She clocks the hurt on Meg's face before she shields it again, and that's even funnier. Meg thinks they're the same, and she's right, where it counts. That's how Ruby can gasp out, with perfect, unholy honesty: 

"You? You're nothing!"

Samruby is like. None of it was real. All of it was real. They never truly knew each other. They knew each other better than anyone. You spend your life trying to kill the greedy rotten thing inside you and then you meet someone who looks at it with religious devotion, who feeds it with her own blood, and maybe she's using you but she holds you like she loves you, and maybe she does. In her way.
