My thorn-laden heart (it's yours, it's yours, it's yours)
A companion piece to Carry my heart (and hold it gently in your arms). From Ghil's POV! Yes there's a Hanahaki reference in here. Tender and bittersweet, and absolutely delightful to write how differently Ghil and Emmrich view each other.
Feat. My Ingellvar, Ghil'danan, and the bone daddy himself, Emmrich Volkarin.
---------------------
Nobody could wake him.
To be fair, nobody wanted to. Emmrich had been uncharacteristically quiet on the way back, exhaustion seemingly making him drag his feet.
It had been a rough day to begin with. Antaam, Ventatori, and a mad dash to get rid of a bunch of magically charged poison had left its mark, sprinting from one end of Treviso to the other.
“Why don't you carry him, Rook?” Neve said teasingly. “You know he's going to be hurting tomorrow if we leave him sleeping here.”
Fuck. She was right. As much as he knew she was actively tormenting him, Neve did bring up a good point.
Ghil sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “If he kills me, make him bring me back,” he groaned.
Neve smiled in that wickedly mysterious way of hers. “Perhaps. Good luck.” She trotted out of the room, leaving him alone.
Emmrich looked so young. The gentle touch of sleep drew the lines away from his face, reminding Ghil of how he'd looked fourteen years ago.
Bittersweet memories. The professor didn't even remember him from before he transitioned, and Ghil didn't know whether that was a blessing or a curse.
He walked over, sliding a hand under Emmrich's knees, and the other around his shoulders.
The necromancer was much lighter than he expected. All legs and bone, gangly in a way that often came off as grace.
It was a miracle Ghil managed to keep his eyes on the battlefield on any given day.
Emmrich barely stirred. It was as if he recognized the person who held him would never do him any harm.
Maker. Cradled in his arms was the manifestation of his bleeding, beating heart, ruby-slick and beating with the spark of life this man had installed years ago.
Every time Ghil got into his head about it, he reminded himself Emmrich was only human. It would be unfair to put him on a pedestal.
Still, as his feet carried him towards the main building of the Lighthouse, he couldn't help the relentless flood of affection. Time spent together actually learning who Emmrich was only made a longtime crush bloom into a deep, unshakeable love.
Like brambles, rooting deep into his heart where they could never be dug out.
He would choke on those blackberry blossoms before ever trying to get rid of them.
A questioning hiss drew him from his thoughts. Manfred’s eyes glowed in the dark, reminding him of a cat.
“Manfred,” he whispered. “Would you set up what Emmrich needs for bed?”
The skeleton nodded, a chipperness to his steps as he scuttled up the stairs that wound up to everyone's separate quarters.
As he followed, he felt the professor stir in his arms.
“Rook?” Emmrich said sleepily. Maker’s breath, that fucking nickname. It drove Ghil mad some days.
Coming to full consciousness, the professor flailed, and Ghil was forced to tighten his hold, lest the man brain himself on the stone railing. “R-Rook!”
“Shh,” Ghil hushed. “You fell asleep, professor.”
Emmrich looked at him, aghast. “You could have just woken me up!”
He couldn't help but snort. This man was too cute for his own good. “We tried. Dozing off at dinner…should I take you on less missions?”
The glare he received made him grin, followed by a scolding smack. “I'm not an invalid! You requested an expert on the Fade, which requires me to-”
Laughter came bubbling out of Ghil’s chest, cutting the professor off. “I know,” he said, unable to control the wealth of affection spilling from him. “I'm just teasing.” Emmrich’s disapproving face only made him smile more, even as he stopped at the top of the stairs. “Would you like me to set you down now?”
“Yes,” Emmrich retorted. “I'm perfectly able to walk to my own quarters. Where is Manfred, anyway?”
Ghil glanced up. The skeleton was already gone from view. “In your room,” he replied, setting Emmrich on his feet. “I asked Manfred if he'd prep your bed for you, just in case you didn't wake.”
An odd look crossed the professor’s face, something that Ghil couldn't read. “You would have taken me all the way to my bed?”
I'd take you to mine, if you'd let me.
Ghil swallowed the inappropriate response, mentally smacking himself up the back of the head. He coughed instead. “Of course.” Ghil could feel the stark blush spreading, hating how easily it would show on his skin. “Wherever…” he faltered. What a chicken. What a coward. Alone in the Lighthouse with the one person he'd ever wanted, and he still was weak.
Ghil wanted to be someone who could be relied on. Not necessarily a hero, fuck that, but a bulwark against the endless storm of their lives.
That required courage.
He forced the words out, quieter than intended. “Wherever you need me to carry you, I'll always be more than happy to.”
Emmrich’s lips parted, his eyes wide like he'd come to some sort of revelation.
Whatever it was, he kept it to himself, looking away as he brushed invisible wrinkles from his clothes. “Well,” he replied quietly. “I appreciate the offer. And…thank you for carrying me.”
Ghil’s chest felt warm. He gazed at Emmrich tenderly. “Anytime, professor.”
Emmrich stared down at him disapprovingly. “You know what I prefer to be called.”
In the low candlelight, a single strand of white hair stuck to Emmrich's clothes. It was odd, something that didn't belong with the professor’s seamless image.
Ghil was reminded of the way Emmrich looked in the early morning, his moustache askew and his clothes rumpled.
He smiled. Not so seamless after all. Another imperfection, to be loved as it was.
Before he knew it, he'd reached forward, plucking it from the professor’s clothes. “Sorry,” he said absentmindedly. “It's the worst part about having long hair.”
Emmrich nodded. “Of course. Thank you, dear Rook.”
The nickname scratched at him, a reminder of his leadership. His title. His crown, snug around his throat and drawing tighter every day.
“Professor,” he said, before he could help himself. “Say my name.”
Internally he cringed. It came out as a command instead of a request.
-’danan,” came the whispered reply. It shocked Ghil back out of his head, sending his heart stuttering.
Holy shit. Holy shit. He was going to die, right here on the floor. Emmrich was looking at him in a way he'd never seen before, and it filled him with an impulsive confidence he rarely felt.
Taking the professor's hand in his own, he absentmindedly noted the callouses there. Years of magework had worn into Emmrich, a tapestry of skill written across his skin.
“If the sound of my name on your lips is the last thing I hear, I don't think I'd mind.” The words slipped out of his mouth before he could stop them, and he leaned down, intent on hiding the blush that was definitely coming.
Instead, he kissed the back of Emmrich's hand, silently grateful for the way they'd healed him again and again.
Ghil glanced up, meeting Emmrich’s eyes. Kind eyes, wide with pupils blown.
He had to go. He had to run away, before he ruined this moment by doing something stupid and impulsive.
“Goodnight…Emmrich.” Quickly, Ghil turned on his heel, fleeing to his room.
He hoped he hadn't scared the man off.
He hoped tomorrow, Emmrich would still grace him with his presence.

tomura shigaraki x reader; 2,931 words
A/N: this was a request I got last year, i'm not a huge expert in hurt/comfort because i have no idea how to do the comfort part, so here you go, a reader who does little to no comfort because i'm clueless as well.
CW: hrut/comfort; tomura not liking his kid; thoughts of suicide; le me know if I need to add anything else !
Tumblr media
It was honestly shocking how things went on after the league became the Paranormal Liberation Front; nothing that you could have predicted could compare. For starters, Hawks wanting to join your cause was honestly a bit of a joke in your opinion, considering the fact that he wasn’t just some hero but the №2, but since Dabi, well, Tōya, let him in, you figured that it was fine until he tried to kill Twice, and you and Dabi had to step in, barely saving him from the clutches of death. Speaking of which, Dabi being a Todoroki was not something anyone had expected; it certainly explained why he kept this whole loner with a secret identity persona up for so long, even after all this time that you all had bonded and basically became each other’s family.
And the war, it was such a horrible experience that you still have nightmares about it. The only bonus was that those UA kids had the empathy to let you all go, helping you fake your death and escape to form new lives away from any sort of criminality. Izuku going as far as to personally check up on you and Tomura when you two went to the UK to keep a low profile. And once you were 100% positive that your new identities were bulletproof, you could check on the others. Toga had the opportunity to stay in Japan under the surveillance of Uraraka and… Bakugō for some reason; you guessed it was because he trusted his classmate and her judgement to back her up when needed without any questions. Both of them vouched for her rehabilitation, given the circumstances that she was still a minor and that she wasn’t given the proper support when she was a kid. Twice was staying somewhere in the US with Spinner and Mr. Compress; the last time you spoke with them, they were in LA, where everyone was too preoccupied with themselves to notice Japanese criminals. Tōya had also stayed in Japan, reconciling with his family and happily watching Endeavour undergo a trial for all the abuse that he put his family through. He could even sometimes visit the two of you, going to the UK and using vacation as an excuse, with no one questioning it because Shōto would go alongside him.
And now you and Tomura, or Tenko as he was now calling himself, were living happily as a little family with a 5-year-old son that had no idea about your highly criminal past, only the made-up story about how you were immigrants from Japan that didn’t like how many heroes there were back at home, which honestly was kind of truthful considering you did not like the amount of heroes in Japan, just not for the reasons he would assume. Haruki (元稀) developed his father’s quirk, which at the beginning freaked out Tenko, considering how that turned out for him in his childhood. At first, he was even a little negative about it; he didn’t like seeing him; he only saw himself, saw how he would kill the two of you, how he would destroy everything that he had worked so hard for; it tore him from the inside.
“Tenko?”
He was sitting on the rails of the balcony of your shared flat when you had called him, letting his feet hang in the air. He remembered the first few times how he thought about jumping down, thinking about how this was all useless, that in the end this whole fake life wouldn’t work in the end, and he would have to be dead in the end after all, so at least it would be by his own ways and decision. Thankfully, he never had the guts to commit the act, not when you would be the one to see him like this, not when you would be the one shedding tears and blaming yourself for his decisions before eventually following suit.
He turned around, his ruby eyes looking back at yours. You liked seeing his natural eyes, recalling his true identity every time you two were home or in some secluded area when you could take off your disguises. It felt weird looking at that same face you loved for the past twelve years with different eyes and hair every time the two of you went out, so you were thankful for every single moment he wasn’t wearing his usual disguise around you.
You sat beside him on the railing of the balcony, leaning against his side as you looked into the distance, admiring the city view. The sky was grey, as always. At first you found it strange compared to the usual blue skies of Japan, with the rain accompanying it being ever so consistent, sometimes paired with the lightning and thunder that made Tenko jump out of his seat the first few weeks, even though he would be too proud and deny it every time you brought it up.
“You’re thinking about Haruki again.”
Silence, as always. Ever since your kid discovered his quirk, Tenko ignored everything that concerned your child. You didn’t like it, but you understood his concerns. The trauma that he went through in his childhood, much less the rest of his life, was painful enough, so you could understand how it affected his perception of your kid, the worry that he had concerning his future, especially since you two agreed that you would tell him the truth when he was old enough to not freak out on the two of you and not blabber about your real identities to his friends or teachers.
“I would have much preferred if he had your quirk, or even none for that matter…”
This was also something that he started saying frequently after your son got his quirk. You frankly didn’t know what else to do other than sigh and take his hand in yours for some sort of comfort, either for you or for him, you didn’t bother thinking about it much. You didn’t know what kind of support to give him in this situation; you didn’t even know if he would go past this phase of hating his own son. You hoped so, but given how he was acting around him, you started to suspect that it was just wishful thinking. The wounds of the war were still fresh in his mind, and having his son being a constant reminder of what he was capable of, of the things that could possibly happen, he could not just ignore the warnings that his brain was sending him.
You never had this kind of family problem that turned you into a villain like the other members of the league, or just other villains in general; nor you never even had a “villainous” quirk that you were bullied for by the cruel members of society. Your parents were just working with Giran, making weapons for his associates and keeping a low profile so that they wouldn’t have problems with the law. And you just had to meet up with the infamous leader of the League of Villains while giving new equipment to Toga, and he just had to make you join after seeing how useful your quirk would be for him.
And that’s why you decided to call Izuku. Of all the people that you could call to help you out in this situation, it was him. Tenko got really close with him after he helped you flee the country, and he understood how certain quirks could change a person’s life, given the fact that he was born quirkless, as he had explained to you two as he started visiting and checking up on you two after the war. You also called Tōya to visit so that your husband wouldn’t get suspicious about your intentions and because the two of you really needed to catch up after the last time he visited.
They both of them arrived like a week after you had called them, quickly making time to visit given the urgency of the situation, as you had explained over the phone. When you went to see who knocked on your door, the moment you saw the spiky white hair out of your peephole, you opened the door and jumped out to hug him, almost making the younger boy fall in the process.
“Damn, I hope you hug your husband like that as well; I don’t want him to be jealous.” He teased, grinning down at you as he returned your hug.
“We made a kid together; I think I made it clear who I prefer between the two of you.”
As you greeted the two of them, Tenko just made his way out of the bedroom; the only difference between his usual dead expression and this one was the smile that he gave Izuku and Tōya as he saw them at the entrance. He walked towards the three of you, hands in his pockets as he greeted them.
“You seriously need to stop flirting with my wife you tosser.” he said, walking towards the three of you slowly.
You grinned at their banter, finally letting your Izuku come in whilst Tōya was too busy playing with your kid to even enter into the leaving room. When you turned to look behind you, you saw Izuku already talking to your husband, a sign that soon enough there were some feelings to be shared, and you didn’t want to interrupt, so you ushered Tōya outside, leaving your kid in the house. You decided that it would be best to catch up with your old friend and let Tenko be open with you when he was ready, so for the time being you and Dabi went on the roof.
You two sat at the edge of the building, gazing upon the civilians that walked through the streets, rain violently hitting their umbrellas or their hoods. You and Tōya also had an umbrella to protect you, though at this point you were used to being soaking wet from the numerous times you got your umbrella stolen back home or not properly checking the weather when going out. You both stayed silent like this until Dabi finally spoke up:
“I guess if you called, it must have gotten pretty serious.” He turned to look at you; the muscles of his face didn’t move an inch, but you could read his eyes, full of worry not only for you but Tenko as well.
“H—he ignores Haruki completely.” You started, already feeling tears coming up, no matter how much you tried not to cry in front of him. “I know how he feels; I understand him, his feelings, but I… I don’t know how to help; I don’t know how to talk to him about it. I—”
You couldn’t hold it in anymore; you started sobbing, hiding your face in your hands as you tried to stop. Tōya hugged you, comforting you as best as he could while wishing that everything would turn out for the better. He trusted Izuku on the matter, and while it was obvious that one conversation wouldn’t change Tenko’s whole attitude towards the subject, he would try to be better, and he would try to make it easy for you, to help you understand what you needed to do to support him.
Inside your flat, Izuku was playing with the kid as he talked to Tenko about his issues, even though it was difficult for him to open up at first. It’s not like he hated the kid; of course not, he would never hate him; he was his flesh and blood, his only family besides you. But his quirk, was something that he couldn’t just accept. He knew how it would affect him, how it would affect other’s view towards him, and perhaps he would end up a villain, because what else can people become when they are pushed over the edge ?
“I don’t hate him, you know… It’s just his quirk; you know how it will affect him in the future. How people will perceive him. It will be the same story"
“I get that, believe me. I know how people will treat him. But that’s exactly why you shouldn’t let it affect you; he will need your support and your guidance. Now more than ever.”
They talked more about the issue until you and Tōya came back. You and your husband bid them goodbye before settling in your living room, with you nuzzling into the crook of his neck as he mindlessly traced patterns on your back. You sat in silence, afraid to talk, or more precisely, start the talk. And you guessed that it was the same for Tenko. But you had to do it eventually, and he cared enough to take the first step.
“I’m scared. I know it’s unreasonable, but I am.” He looked down at you, waiting for any kind of answer, just something to tell him that you didn’t blame him for his feelings.
“I… I don’t know how to help. I don’t do emotional stuff.” It could have sounded harsh, but judging by the softness of your voice, how he could hear it break just a little bit, he knew that you weren’t dismissing him. He chuckled a little, wrapping his arm around you just a bit tighter than necessary for comfort. “Me neither. But we’ll manage, won’t we ?”
You looked up at him, a weak smile on your face at your husband’s positivity. And the first time since Haruki’s quirk awakening, you became confident that everything would turn out as you hoped: you, Tenko, and Haruki living as a happy little family with no problems in your way, just joy and bittersweet memories.
“We will.”
It was five years later that you decided to tell Haruki about your pasts and secret identities, and for a ten-year-old child, he took the news very well. Maybe it was because he was still young and the two of you were generally open with your son about a bunch of other stuff. Either way, the two of you were glad that it turned out this way. But he quickly decided that he absolutely needed to meet your old friends from the League, which was mostly easy with Tōya and Toga, not so much with Twice, Spinner, and Mr. Compress, who never stayed in the same place for too long. At this point you were pretty sure that they went everywhere besides the African continent, not that they weren’t planning to hide there as well at some point in the future.
So here you were, sitting on the sofa of a large living room in Bakugo’s house where everyone from the League and some of his friends gathered to catch up. Toga was particularly eager to meet your kid, commenting on how he looked so much like you yet had the same personality as his father’s, which she described as a tragedy. Tōya was also very quick to declare himself as his only fake uncle, claiming that he was the closest to you and Tenko, while Twice complained about it and kept bugging Tenko to confirm that they were besties.
Overall, you were happy. You had the perfect life, the perfect friends, the perfect kid, and the best husband that you could wish for, who was currently sitting down next to you after Twice finally let him go and went to annoy Spinner instead.
“How is it that I’m younger than him yet he’s the one tiring me out?” He mumbled, throwing one hand over his face in exhaustion, which made you giggle.
“That’s what happens when you have a kid.”
He turned towards you, a fond smile on his face as he leaned to press his lips against yours. You remembered how dry it felt the first time you kissed him and comparing it to how soft his lips felt now, as if it had only been yesterday. A lot of things felt like they only had happened yesterday, and yet at the same they felt so distant due to the striking contrast. But you cherished those memories, they weren’t all positive, far from that, but it’s your dark past that had helped you built such a promising future, not just for you, but for the future as well, and you wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
“And I wouldn’t want it any other way.” It was like he read your thoughts, as he pressed his lips against yours one more, smiling against you and you did the same. You two felt lost in the moment, everyone around you completely disappearing as you savoured your moment of intimacy, until you both heard Dabi let out a comical scream. Sure enough, it was Toga teaching your kid how to throw knives, and what better victim than his supposed fake fun uncle ?
“Should we stop her ?” your husband asked, not even pulling an inch away from you.
“Nah, let them bond. Plus it’s payback for how many times Dabi flirted with me.” That made him turn to look at you, a questioning glare on his face that made you laugh.
“Before we were a thing, he’s not that kind of arsehole” you explained, already sensing his annoyance from just the look that he was giving you.
“He better not be. Or I’m gonna have to re-enter my villain era” he said before kissing you again, a little more roughly. Damn it you knew how to get on his nerves, and damn it did he enjoy it.

Gun Crazy
When gun-obsessed pacifist Bart Tare (John Dall) witnesses expert shooter Annie Laurie Starr (Peggy Cummins) demonstrate her firearm prowess at a carnival one night, it's love at first sight. Aimless Bart joins the traveling show and begins a romance with Annie, but her dangerously rebellious spirit soon gets them both fired. After eloping, the young lovers embark on an armed robbery spree, managing to elude the authorities until Annie insists on pulling one last job.
Paul Newman stars in this unusual Western as the legendary outlaw Billy the Kid, exploring the character's psychological motivations and complicated relationships with those around him. The film takes a more introspective approach to the traditional gunslinger tale, focusing on the inner turmoil and vulnerability of its protagonist. Its unique perspective and Newman's riveting performance make it a standout among gun-centric films.

Twilight Advent Calendar, Day 5
Dec. 5 - What is each Cullen's favorite college major so far? What new major should they should try someday?
Masterpost/Prompts
Jake: got bored while Renesmee was in medical school. He started at what was at the time Paris Diderot in math, hoping to shore up for a Mechanical Engineering program eventually. He sidetracked into programming, and after he finished his short course, started working on Ruby on Rails. It feels a lot like working on cars, including the triumph of getting the thing running.
Renesmee: hasn't experienced multiple majors yet, so her medical studies are it. She wanted some distance from her grandfather's preference for trauma medicine (plus, she feels a little inferior in that her human half makes her a little less bright and a little less fast than her father or grandfather) and was originally headed for obstetrics until COVID hit. She's proud of having been able to be of such great use during the hardest parts of the pandemic, but like many doctors, she's burned out and is thinking about just straight up pursuing French literature the next go-round.
Bella: Also hasn't had lots of time to pursue many degrees but she worked her way through the content of a bachelor's degree while Renesmee was growing up in Forks, and then felt comfortable with Edward's offer to forge a transcript for her so that she could take an M.Phil at Cambridge in English Literature while Renesmee was in medical school. She's joked to Edward that she'd like to study neuropsych so that she can understand his messed up head better, but the longer this joke has been going on, the more she thinks she'd actually like to do it.
Jasper: loves history and has taken several degrees in it. He wanted to become a specialist in the American Civil War but he kept getting into fights with his professors (once the Cullens had to move because he was ranting so hard about what the Civil War was actually like that he tipped several people off). So he's actually an expert in the Almohad Caliphate and has two very obscure books on the topic published by almost unknown university presses. He also enjoys philosophy, especially Eastern philosophy, but has not done advanced work in it. He's the only person apart from Carlisle in the family to have published books.
Alice: took one one of her greatest challenges in hiding her vampirism to study dance under one of Balanchine's top students in the 1970s. She doesn't care much for formal education, but she's thought she might like to pursue a degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology the next time the family lives in the area.
Emmett: moved with Rosalie to Knoxville for a brief stint in the 1990s, where he studied kinesiology. Like Alice, he doesn't much care for the value of formal education, but he has a degree from the University of Tennessee and he's damn proud of it. If he does more than just hide in college sometime again, he basically just wants to go back there. In addition to Maria, he's a big reason the Cullens can't live in the southern US—they're afraid that if Emmett is within a reasonable run of Alabama or Georgia, he'll just go there and stir shit on behalf of the Vols.
Rosalie: is proudest of her medical training and how she can best Edward at it. But she also enjoys her mechanical engineering studies and is immensely proud of the things she's been able to invent thanks to them. She has been loath to study early childhood education, because she always thought it would make her too depressed, but after helping raise Renesmee, she's thinking that might be the next one she does.
Esme: most loved her M.Eng. in architectural engineering, which she received in the 1980s. While studying architecture felt challenging and transgressive because she was born in an era where advanced schooling at all for women was rare, it still felt enough like "art" to feel like something a woman should do. Architectural engineering, on the other hand, put her toe to toe with mostly men, and with her brains and her experience, she smoked them every single day. She was embarrassed for being so proud of it but Carlisle reveled in her joy and the way her success brought out an uncharacteristic braggadocio. She enjoyed the mathematics of it immensely, and if she did a new degree for fun, it might be in more theoretical mathematics. But the pandemic has opened up a world of opportunity for her for work (by @palmofafreezinghand) and she doesn't foresee that happening again soon.
Edward: would tell you his happiest time has been getting his two medical degrees of course, because he idolizes his sire. But in the 1940s, Carlisle shipped him off to Juilliard to study jazz piano. His mother had always wanted him to go there, and it gave him a great deal of peace to finally do what she wanted. After the pandemic, he's giving some thought to biochemistry, because he's seen the fact that he might actually be able to have an impact on the world like Carlisle does, and he's desperate to feel useful. (And he's suffering with anxiety about becoming an empty nester.)
Carlisle: mostly studies medicine of course and adores it, but his favorite course of study was his Ph.D. in musicology, specializing in the Baroque period. The book he published from his dissertation raised new questions about which compositions should be attributed to Bach and which should not and why won a first book award for its novelty, which was funny since he was mostly relying on his direct knowledge rather than his research.
His most meaningful degree, however, is his doctor of divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary. Like Edward, it was closing a loop of what his parent wanted him to do, but in it he found meaning and peace and closure he didn't realize he was missing.

Evening nights
A/n: an expert from an upcoming story, I have planned.
Moira stood alone on the balcony, the cigarette between her fingers, her button-up shirt slightly undone, revealing a hint of skin. The cold air bit at her skin, but the nicotine dulled the sensation. She took a long drag, savoring the bitter taste, then exhaled, watching the smoke curl and dissipate in the air.
It was a quiet night, the city below her bustling with life, but from her vantage point, she felt far removed from it all. She loosened her tie, feeling the constriction around her neck ease up. As she leaned against the railing, lost in thought, she heard footsteps approaching.
She turned to see Siebren, her colleague, holding two steaming cups of coffee. He smiled at her, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Mind some company?" he asked, holding out one of the cups.
Moira took the cup, feeling the warmth seep into her fingers. "Thanks," she murmured, taking a sip. The heat spread down her throat, chasing away the chill.
They stood in silence for a moment, both lost in their thoughts. Then Siebren spoke up. "What made you start smoking?"
Moira tilts her head lightly, taking another drag, before flicking the stub away. "It's a habit I picked up in college. Helps me clear my head." She looked at him, "We all have our vices, humanity's way of coping with stress," She paused, "What brings you out here to Gibraltar?"
"Thought I see you," He admits. Taking a slow sip of his tea, he knew Moira well, the way she didn't sip on her coffee, knowing it was missing something.
"You did catch me on my last day; I'm leaving for Oasis," Moira responds, sitting her cup on the railing.
"Ah, the glorious city of science," Siebren chuckled. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small flask, "I did stop by your office before coming here,"
Moira takes the flask, unscrewing the lid, and takes a quick swig before pouring the remaining liquor into her coffee. "I'm leaving for the Einstien station and wanted to give you this before I left." Siebren reaches into his other pocket, wrapped in a velvet cloth. Gently, he reveals a dark silver ring with a band of vibrant ruby and deep sapphire wrapped around it.
"Always focused on your work; never did I want to impede your progress; I give you this." He hands it to her, "I wish you well, Moira." He declares.

"Beyond the Browser: The Ultimate Full Stack Journey"
In the ever-evolving digital landscape, a new kind of developer is rising above the traditional boundaries of front-end and back-end work—the full stack developer. This role has quickly transformed from a buzzword into a must-have skillset for anyone looking to truly master web development. But what lies beyond the browser? What does it take to embark on the ultimate full stack journey?
Let’s dive deeper into the path of becoming a well-rounded developer capable of building complex applications from the ground up.
What Is a Full Stack Developer?
At its core, a  Best full stack development course with Java is someone who has proficiency in both the front-end (what users interact with) and the back-end (the server, database, and application logic) of web applications. These developers can create seamless, fully functional systems by connecting the visible parts of a website with the underlying infrastructure.
A full stack professional typically understands:
Front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Vue.js
Back-end languages and frameworks: Node.js, Python with Django or Flask, Ruby on Rails, or PHP
Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.
Version control systems: Git and GitHub for collaboration and tracking changes
Deployment and hosting platforms: AWS, Heroku, Netlify, and Docker for managing environments
But being a full stack developer is not just about knowing tools—it's about understanding how everything connects.
The Journey Beyond the Browser
The road to becoming a full stack expert doesn't stop at the front-end. It goes far deeper, encompassing areas like DevOps, architecture, security, and scalability. Here’s what the ultimate full stack journey looks like:
1. Mastering the Front-End
To start, you need to understand how to build intuitive and accessible user interfaces. This includes:
Writing clean, semantic HTML and efficient CSS
Creating dynamic interfaces with JavaScript and frameworks like Angular or React
Learning how to optimize for performance and responsiveness across devices
2. Diving Into the Back-End
Once comfortable with the client side, developers must tackle server-side logic:
Writing RESTful APIs
Handling data with relational and non-relational databases
Implementing authentication and authorization
Managing server-side rendering and state
3. Connecting the Dots
The next step is learning how to integrate the front-end and back-end into a cohesive application:
Setting up API routes and handling requests/responses
Synchronizing data between client and server
Using tools like Postman to test API endpoints
4. Embracing DevOps and Deployment
Beyond coding, deploying and maintaining applications is crucial:
Setting up CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
Using Docker and containerization for consistent development environments
Monitoring performance and logging with tools like New Relic or Datadog
5. Staying Secure and Scalable
Security and scalability cannot be ignored:
Understanding authentication methods like JWT and OAuth
Learning best practices to prevent vulnerabilities (e.g., SQL injection, XSS)
Scaling applications with microservices or serverless architecture
Why Full Stack Developers Are in High Demand
Companies are constantly on the lookout for professionals who can see the whole picture. Full stack developers bring flexibility and efficiency to teams, as they can handle multiple responsibilities across the software development lifecycle.
Benefits of Being a Full Stack Developer:
Increased job opportunities across startups and enterprises
Higher earning potential due to broad skillsets
Ability to work independently or as a team leader
Strong foundation for becoming a tech entrepreneur
Conclusion: Your Journey Starts Now
Becoming a  Java full stack developer roadmap  is more than just checking off a list of programming languages. It’s about building a mindset that sees the bigger picture—how design, functionality, and user experience come together in harmony.
Beyond the browser lies a world of code, creativity, and challenge. Those who venture on this path develop not only technical expertise but also the problem-solving skills and vision required to lead in today’s tech industry.
So whether you're just starting out or leveling up your skills, remember: the ultimate full stack journey is a marathon, not a sprint—but it’s one worth running.
