SOULMATE AU ASK for the queen of soulmate aus: 22 for PeterPatterLina because I'mma make it complicated ;P
When Reggie was born with not one, but two keyholes over his heart, it was something to talk about. He would often trace the outlines, wondering who out there would have the literal keys to his heart.
He didn't really get soulmates back then-his parents certainly weren't-their keyholes still blanks and unfilled, unlike his grandparents whose keyhole shapes were filled with colour. All Reggie knew was that he had two people out there who may or may not find him, and would hopefully love him once they did.
As he got older, Reggie gained perspective-that being soulmates didn't mean a happily ever after, that not every match was a romantic one, and finding one soulmate, let alone two, might be a harder task than he thought.
At eighteen, his MeeMaw was the one who gave him his keys-she had come out to visit them in LA, and handed them over, wrapped in a red flannel shirt that had once belonged to Pops. The keys were old fashioned looking, but not identical; one was a faded brass with lines of a musical staff running up the neck. The other was a burnished gold, the handle covered in blooming dahlias. They were perfect.
So Reggie tried to find his soulmates-hoping that every new date he went on might be one of them, but his keys never fit. Still he never gave up hope-he couldn't. He had been so without love for so long, he wasn't about to pass up on fate granting him what he had been longing for since childhood.
~
Luke never really paid attention to his keyholes-they were a fact of life, everyone had them. Sure it was odd that he had two, each one marking the palm of his hands, but he didn't give them much thought. Sure, soulmates were nice, but everyone had one, he'd seen his parents filled in marks, the ones decorating his relatives, heck even Alex had his filled in after Willie literally crashed into him.
Luke was more concerned with creating. His soulmates weren't going anywhere, he'd find them when he was meant to. But his music-that could get him places. It nagged at him to keep writing and playing, to make sure he shared his gifts with as many people as possible.
Because musical wasn't conditional-love was.
He learned that quick after his mom gifted him his keys and hinted that maybe it was time to put the guitar down and concentrate on a real career-one that could support two soulmates. Something practical, not a dream. And when Luke refused, it became giving up his music or giving up his home.
Thus him biking away, six string on his back, keys tossed in the bottom of his duffle, and tears being frantically wiped away as he pedalled.
He could crash at Alex's for a few days and re-orient. Even if it meant putting up with Alex and Willie being sappy. Even if it reminded him that he didn't have his soulmates yet. That maybe it would be easier to deal with this with them by his side.
But no-no distractions. His songs were more important, his music was more important.
Love could wait, soulmates could wait.
They weren't going anywhere right?
They would be different-they had to be. But just in case they weren't-Luke was okay with waiting.
He'd have a million songs for them by then, and that would be all the better. He rubbed over the black iron key with constellations over the neck and the gold covered in butterflies, knowing that the wait would be worth it-it had to be.
~
Julie had always been fascinated by soulmates. Of fairytale princes and princesses finding the match to their key, of the fumblings of each romantic heroine as they trained to find their Mr. Right. Of the now faded mark on her father's bicep, and the keys he always wore around his neck.
Julie saw how soulmates didn't means eternal love-people died, sometimes creully early like her own mother, or her tia's soulmate who passed before they even met.
But she still wanted one.
Or well-two, because there were two keyholes marking her body-right at the base of her neck in the back. Hard for her to see, but she knew their placement as sure as she knew herself, able to trace each shape without using a mirror.
She sometimes wondered what her own keys would look like-not the owes that she would gift her soulmates-she slept with those under her pillow. One a old brass key where the head looked like the head of a guitar, the other black iron with the head like a horseshoe.
But the keys to her-her heart and soul-she wondered what they looked like. Would she know them to see them? Would she know her soulmates before keys ever entered into it? Would they like music as much as she did?
She dreamed up scenarios-some fantastical, some realistic, some spicy-of all the different ways they could meet.
She knew of course, you still had to work after meeting your soulmates-fate might have brought you together, but it was still a relationship that needed tending, just like the sunflowers out in mami's garden. But Julie had never been afraid of a little hard work.
Nothing was worth doing if you didn't work for it right?
~
Reggie was tired. Tired of trying to find people who didn't want to be found, tired of being disappointed and heartbroken and hurt time after time. And at this point, he was really tired of this party.
He honestly wasn't sure why he was here in the first place-someone had said one of the performers was really good, but traffic and circumstances had kept Reggie from all of those, and now it was just noise and the smell of alcohol and sweaty bodies.
Time to go.
Only then, he saw fire-not the little flash of it from the bartenders doing fancy drinks, but a real set of flames crawling up the curtains and though he shouted, he couldn't be heard over the noise.
Then the fire alarm went off and everything went into utter chaos.
~
Luke tossed back the last of his beer, surveying the increasingly messy crowd. He had hoped performing at this party would get him a bit of interest-there had been rumours of big shots coming, but the crowd had looked like a drunken mess to him. But he stuck around for the free drinks-it beat playing for 'exposure' and still having to pay for drinks at east. But he was ready to dip.
Parties weren't really his scene, and as much as he loved playing, it obviously wasn't paying the bills, so he had his stupid diner job to work in the morning. But the tips kept him in guitar strings, and cheap ramen, so it was worth it.
Only as he was getting his six string, there was a shout of "FIRE!" and screaming and then everything was a blur.
~
Julie had no idea what she was doing here at this party. It was loud, and smokey, and sticky. But Flynn said it was a good place to get a drink, to meet people, and Julie needed to get out more, not spend her days dreaming. So she came-and instantly regretted it.
Sure, the last guy playing was phenomenal, from what she could hear, but then there had been no way to see who he was, and then everything was drowned out by too loud techno. Plus it was way too crowded by the bar to even think about going over there for a drink.
So instead Julie stood by the sidelines, letting the world pass her by once more, sighing, fiddling with the chain around her neck holding her keys. Maybe she should go...
Then the smokey smell got worse, and Julie saw the flames licking up the stage, she rushed and pulled the fire alarm, but that just seemed to make things worse.
People were panicking, fighting to get out, get away, and Julie felt trapped by the pulsing, pushing mass.
~
Reggie hated the LAPD lock up-he always had, having to come and bail his father out for too many drunk and disorderlies to count. Turns out it wasn't much better on the inside of the cell either.
He still wasn't sure why any of them were in holding-the cops had come and taken in the lot of the party that they could, and of course, Reggie lucked out into being one of the lucky few.
At least he wasn't alone in the cell.
There was a supremely cute guy in a cut off band tee who was leaning against the wall, muttering something about a guitar. And a very pretty girl holding her knees and rocking on the bench.
"First time?" he asked her.
"What?" she said, wiping at her eyes. "Oh yeah, you?"
"Yeah, but I don't think we're in trouble."
"They wouldn't be holding us if we weren't in trouble," the guy grumbled, then seeing the stricken face of the girl, stopped. "Sorry, it's just... ACAb you know? And they have my six sting..."
"You were playing at the party?" she asked.
"Yeah, last slot, did you catch it?" he asked, smile brightening up.
"Only the tail end, but what I heard was great."
"Thanks," he said, sitting on her other side. "Luke."
"Julie."
Reggie tried to scoot over, but then Julie caught his arm, smiling at him, and Luke offered a grin. "Reggie." He then blew out a whistle. "Well this is the weirdest way I never saw my night going."
"You mean you didn't see arson and jail on your dance card?" Luke joked.
"Was it arson?" Julie asked. "I just saw the fire and pulled the alarm."
"Probably just some idiot kids with a joint," Reggie replied. "But the fact that you pulled the alarm was quick thinking."
"Honestly I think it just made everyone panic, and that made it worse," Julie replied, her voice small.
"As far as I know no one got seriously hurt," Luke stated. "Probably because you pulled the alarm and no one got trapped in a burning building."
"Maybe."
"Definitely," Reggie assured her.
"You three are free to go," an officer said as they unlocked the door. "Sorry about all this. Collect any belongings at the front."
Luke muttered something about due process, but they scrambled out of the cell and towards the desk where their things were being held.
"Okay, I have one guitar, one blue rabbit's foot, one dinosaur wallet containing twenty dollars, and two keys," the attendant said.
"Thank you," Luke said, already tuning his guitar in hopes she wasn't too badly damaged.
"One Star Wars wallet containing fifty dollars, two keys on a chain, and one leather jacket."
Reggie smiled, tossing on his jacket, feeling much more at home inside it-modern day armour as it were.
"One purple purse, one chain with two keys, ten bracelets, and one cell phone."
Julie nodded, checking her phone for messages before slipping it into her bag, which thankfully seemed intact.
But then the three of them looked and there were a jumble of soulmate keys left on the counter.
Reggie reached for his, but then stopped, seeing the horseshoe, the stars on identical black keys. "You two share a soulmate."
"What?" Luke asked, looking at his keys for the first time in forever, and then at Julie's. The heads of their black iron keys were identical. But she had another key, a brass looking thing that looked remarkably like the one now hanging around Reggie's neck. "I think you guys might too."
Julie held up her brass key to Reggie's, and they smiled upon seeing the identical set of teeth.
"You don't think?" Reggie asked, holding up his gold key to Luke's-and there it was, another match.
"Dios mio," Julie swore. "I never...okay we are doing this somewhere else because we are not doing this here."
The guys agreed, and Reggie proposed his home near the beach-his parents had split long ago, and though he'd had a few offers from local businesses, he didn't want to give up his childhood home-not until he found the people he was supposed to share a home and heart with.
"Me first?" Luke offered, laying out his hands, the empty keyholes palin to see. Reggie and Julie held their keys, all of them shaking as they slowly pressed the keys to the hole, and then...
A blast of light and the keys were gone, Luke's hands now filled with a purple and red keyhole on each palm. He sniffled, and smiled. "You two next."
Julie pulled up her hair, trembling as she felt cool metal at the base of her neck-then a feeling of rightness, or wholeness overcame her. She touched the marks, they felt the same, but when she looked in the mirror, saw they were now red and blue. She turned to Reggie. "Your turn."
Reggie blushed, but then pulled up his shirt. "You two hold the keys to my heart-quite literally. I never thought I would..."
"Sssh, we're here now," Julie said, laying her hand over the marks, feeling Reggie's pulse rocket.
"I never thought either," Luke confessed. "Never been so happy to be wrong."
They all giggled at that, and then Reggie watched as Luke and Julie pressed their keys to him, watched as they disappeared in a flash, leaving him marked in purple and blue. Collapsing into their arms as they cried and rejoiced and talked the whole night through.
The three of them would make locked up jokes whenever anyone asked the story of how they found one another, even though it made everyone groan.
They didn't mind though-because they knew, it had been worth it to find the people who held the keys to their heart and soul, and would keep both safe for the rest of their lives.

I'm attracted to men, but at what cost. - Julie, Flynn, and Carrie - Peterpatterlina
Julie slumped down beside her at the lunch table with a groan and buried her head in her arms.
Flynn tried to keep her voice even as she tried not to laugh. “Everything ok Jules?”
Julie didn’t even lift her head as she shot her the middle finger.
“Come on sis, it’s not that bad.” Flynn rubbed circles on her back. “Maybe being forced to work together will get them to finally see you as a woman and not just a musical wrecking ball.”
Julie peaked up at her just as Carrie sat down behind Flynn and wrapped her arms around her waist giving her a kiss on the cheek. Flynn bit back a grin. This probably wasn’t the best time to play happy couple in front of her bestie.
“What’s wrong with you?” Carrie frowned over her shoulder at Julie. “I heard you got paired with Luke and Reggie for that English assignment. I thought you’d be thrilled.”
Julie groaned and buried her head in her arms again.
Flynn giggled. Julie had had a crush on those himbos since last year, done everything but flash them to get them to notice her as more than a musical genius. But all they ever wanted to do was write music and sing with her. Which Flynn knew Julie loved, but she wanted more from them too.
“You should just be a lesbian.” Carrie reached around and patted her arm sympathetically. “Pretty sure Kayla thinks you’re hot.”
Julie raised her head and sighed. “Thanks Care. Unfortunately, I’m attracted to men.” They all glanced across the cafeteria to see the objects of her affection both bent over a notebook so engrossed in whatever they were working on that neither noticed that Willie had stuck about six stir sticks in Luke’s beanie and had covered Reggie’s jacket in little gold stars. Alex was out today.
She turned back to her and Carrie, dropping her head back on her arms. “But at what cost?” She waved toward them without even looking again. “They’re so oblivious and I think it’s adorable.”
Flynn shook her head again before leaning in and giving her a kiss on the temple. “I wish you’d just let me tell them. Or, hell, you tell them.” She nodded over to Reggie and Luke who had finally noticed what Willie had done and were laughing as they let him take pictures of his ‘creations’. “I don’t think they’ll ever make the first move Julie.”
She leaned back into Carrie as they both watched Julie watch the boys for a long minute.
“You know what...” She turned to them. That determined glint in her eyes that always meant something interesting was about to happen. “Fuck it.”
Julie stood and marched across the room, stopping in front of Reggie and Luke and crossed her arms.
“God I wish we could hear what she’s saying.” Carrie whispered in her ear as they watched Julie point at them and point at herself and wave her arms around. Both Reggie and Luke sat there looking stunned while Willie seemed to be surreptitiously recording the whole thing. She would have to ask him about that later.
Julie seemed to shrink in on herself when she was done, arms crossed again and looking almost shocked at whatever she’d said.
She turned and fled back across the cafeteria to them like she was on fire, almost sliding into her lap as she sat down and covered her head with her hands.
“Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God…”
“Jules…” Flynn patted her back. “What’d they say?”
“We didn’t get to say anything.”
Flynn looked up to see Reggie standing at the end of the table nervously playing with his fingers.
“She ran away before we had a chance to.” Luke came around Reggie to sit on the other side of Julie.
“Julie?” Luke bumped her shoulder. “Reg and I would really like to take you out for ice cream after school and talk some more if you want.”
Flynn grabbed Carrie’s hand and squeezed excitedly as Julie raised her head enough to see over her arms. “Yeah?” She sat up more. “You’re not just saying that because I was all crazy and you’re scared of me, are you?”
Luke bit back a grin and shook his head. “I’m not scared of you.”
They all turned to Reggie.
“I’m a little scared of you.” He shrugged.
Julie smiled at Luke before standing up and going to wrap her arms around Reggie in a loose hug. “I’m sorry I yelled. I was just frustrated because I like you both so much.”
“We’re sorry too.” Reggie hugged her tighter. “We like you too Julie.”
Luke got up and squeezed them both, making them all laugh.
“You know.” Luke whispered loud enough for Flynn to hear. “We could go get that ice cream now.”
Julie looked over at her and sighed, the longing to just skip out the rest of the school day written all over her face.
“At what cost Julie.” Flynn snickered as the bell rang. “Make good choices!” She called as she grabbed Carrie’s hand, and they headed toward their next class.
“The cost is going to be the wrath of Tia Victoria if Julie gets caught skipping school.” Carrie laughed as they hurried to class.

Is this okay? It's more than okay.
Peterpatterlina?
The humidity had reached a point where it was impossible for Julie to determine how much she was actually sweating from the near endless trekking through this jungle. All she really wanted was to sit down and rest. However after learning this place had literal carnivorous flowers that wouldn’t hesitate to eat her and the incident with spiders she didn’t dare stop and risk getting left behind.
Not that she thought Reggie and Luke would purposefully leave her behind. But she was already trailing behind. Only getting further behind  with every trip and stumble, not yet as adept at traversing the terrain as the other two.
How long had they been trapped here? They looked to be about her age.
She yelped as her foot caught on yet another root, stumbling forward, her wandering thoughts flying out of her head as the ground quickly grew closer.
An arm around her waist stopped her, and pulled her back against a warm body. A quick glance told her she was in Luke’s arms.
“You ok?” Reggie asked, face full of concern as he stepped closer into her space, all but trapping her between him and Luke. His hands hovered as his gaze drifted over her.
“Yeah, yeah fine.” She said, trying to hide out of breath she was and a little glad the heat would hide the blush burning along her cheeks. “How much more are we going to walk?”
“Not much farther now.” Luke said, releasing his grip and staying behind her as Reggie led the way.
Julie followed along hoping she wouldn’t have to try and remember how she got here in the first place, since everything looked the same to her. Eventually Reggie stopped at a large tree in a particularly barren portion of jungle and began climbing up a set of tangled up vines.
Julie's eyes traced up the vines to what must be their home, little more than a dilapidated ruin of a treehouse. At least from down here that’s what it looked like.
Thankfully, Luke didn’t need much reassurance that she could handle climbing up what essentially amounted to a rope ladder without any assistance. Further grateful that he kept his snickering and any further offers of assistance to himself. Despite how much she struggled she was going to do this herself. Besides she did not want to find out what compromising position she’d end up in if she couldn’t do this herself.
Only compromising positions quickly became her only thought as she entered the treehouse and realized how much smaller it was than she guessed. Definitely smaller than her bedroom back home, as she squeezed herself into a corner to try and stay out of the way, as Luke and Reggie moved about the space.
“Sorry it’s not much.” Reggie said with a shrug, as he glanced around.
“Really it’s just the bed, if you can even call it that.” Luke added, with a sheepish nod toward the assorted fabrics and piles of what Julie had to assume were leaves that took up a good portion of the floor.
“Is this okay?”
“It’s more than okay.” She said, unsure what she even would have done if they hadn’t come along. Certain she very much owed these two her life a hundred times over by now with all the ways she could have wound up dead. “Definitely better than ending up dead or eaten alive, anyway.”
She grimaced as her forced laugh did nothing to try and turn her phrase into a joke. If anything Luke and Reggie’s faces crumpled even more and it broke what tenuous grip Julie had on powering through her situation. She hadn’t even realized how close she had been to crying so focused on following Luke and Reggie to some sort of shelter.
They quickly wrapped her up in a hug, whispering apologies against her hair as her crying only grew worse. They didn’t say it out loud but she could hear it in the finality of their tones. They all were as good as dead in their current situation, trapped in a jungle with no way of getting out or contacting home.
All they were doing now was prolonging the inevitable on the slim hope someone else could pull them free.
Julie’s grip tightened on their arms as she willed those nefarious thoughts out of her mind. Luke and Reggie had survived this long, however long it had been, she could too.
She would cling to that small hope of rescue for as long as she could just as tightly as her nails dug into their arms.

Thank you, hunny!!! <3 <3
4. Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?
Rulie and Rukebox are things I've blocked as tags on tumblr these days because there's so many (really nice) people I follow who love them (good for them) but I'm just not interested (sorry)
6. Show us a bit of a WIP!
An emotional angsty bit from the Alex Adoption Fic (sans actual legal adoption):
And just like that, he was no longer his parent’s son. Well, technically, he still was and if they had wanted, they could have fought to get him back. They also had to pay child support since they were financially able to do so. But since there was no law that could stop them from disinheriting him, that was probably the last support he was ever going to get from them. Financially or otherwise. Legally, he was still Alex Mercer but for all other intents and purposes, he now belonged to the Pattersons with the full consent of the law. Once they’d left the courtroom, Luke slapped him on the shoulder and both Bobby and Reggie cheered. Willie gave him a brief hug that was much too short but soon, Emily was hugging him, too, and kissing his cheek, while Mitch clapped his shoulder and smiled encouragingly at him. Alex, however, just felt numb. The others were celebrating a victory but he felt like he’d played for the losing team for seventeen years.
12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
answered here and I still cannot decide, which is actually funniest or craziest XD
23. Has your favourite character/ship changed over time?
Of course I've hopped fandoms and OTPs but for jatp, it's still Alex (love at first snark) and still Willex (love at first hairflip + seductive rock music playing) and I don't think that's gonna change ever at this point. It's been like four and a half years after all ;D

Soulmate prompts
32. Animal guides for Luke/Reggie/Julie. Spirit animals like each other too.
"Hey Geddy, gimme an E sharp," Luke mumbled, his mouth working around the guitar pick in there. The little wood thrush let out a loud sound, making Luke cringe and cover his ears. "Sharp Ged, sharp!"
"Well maybe if you spoke without plastic in your mouth I could understand you better," Geddy snarked.
Luke spat out the guitar pick, uncaring where it fell-it wasn't like he didn't have a ton of them stashed all over his room. "E sharp, I think it'll work on this bridge."
Geddy sang out, the note strong and pure. "Lu...I'm sure this song will be a banger, they all are, but maybe today we could get out? Maybe mingle with people?"
"When the song is done," Luke said, going back to scribbling on his notebook once more.
Geddy sighed, looking longingly at the window. He loved Luke-they were a part of each other after all-but there were times his bird nature fought against being so caged. He knew Luke wanted to create, but he was writing instead of living-and as a result, they were both alone.
Geddy knew their soulmates were out there-and as much as Luke's music could and did touch people, it would never get to do that if they stayed inside perfecting it every day.
"Come on Luke, I need to stretch my wings, touch the sky. And you need to get out of this room," Geddy urged. "You might find inspiration out there."
"Fine," Luke groaned, getting up, and feeling the consequences of being hunched over his notebook and guitar for so long. "Maybe shower first."
"Good idea," Geddy said, picking at his feathers as he heard the water start. "Finally."
Of course, Luke's idea of 'going out' meant busking. Not the optimal way to meet people as he got so absorbed in his music, but Geddy wasn't about to complain. Busking meant they were near the ocean where he could feel the breeze, flap about in the spray, and converse with other animals about their humans.
Only as they set up, Geddy felt unsettled. Like there was a heaviness in the air. Yet all he could see was blue skies-no storm in sight. He shrugged it off as being cooped up too long and did some aerial feats while Luke tuned his six string, letting his muscles warm up.
Luke launched into covers first-he always did, they drew the initial crowd, getting him some tips, and then he would introduced the odd original or two, promoting his small artist page, hoping that one day the person who asked would be some talent scout or manager. Other people had been discovered with less after all.
Geddy swooped around-never too far so as it would hurt both him and Luke, but enough distance that he could see the gathering crowd, the far off food stalls, and the miles of sandy beach.
Yet he also felt a pull-not towards Luke, no this one was different-like a magnetic draw to something-someone-here in the crowd. Could it be?
Geddy went lower, following his instincts, until he saw a small brown mutt chasing some invisible mote of dust or another until it stopped, looking right at Geddy.
"Hi!" he yapped, waving a paw. "I"m Chewie! I think you're who I've been chasing. Before it was like I had an itch, and couldn't scratch it but now it's like I'm getting the best pats and I think it's because I found you!"
Geddy snickered for a moment, not used to this level of enthusiasm, but he couldn't deny that the feeling of rightness was now washing over him. "I'm Geddy, and I think our humans might need to meet."
'Oh they definitely should, my human-Reggie-he's the best! He takes me for walks and throws the best sticks and gives me lots of treats and...I don't know where he is."
"You're lost?" Geddy asked.
"No, he is," Chewie rebutted. "It';s just there are so many people and now I figured I should stay here so the both of you could find me."
"That's rather astute," Geddy said. "We'll keep an eye out for your Reggie and then we can lead him to my Luke."
"Does your human like dogs?" Chewie panted.
"You know I think he does," Geddy said as he found a perch on Chewie's head, the contentment even more pronounced here.
All too soon an attractive young man in a red flannel found them, the relief painting his features. "You scared me buddy," he said, rubbing over Chewie's muzzle. "You know I get scared of losing you in crowds." Then he spied Geddy, and smiled. "Found yourself a friend did you?"
"He made the itching go away," Chewie supplied. "You should meet his human, he likes dogs."
Reggie looked at the two animals, understanding dawning over his features. "Yeah, I think I had better."
~
Geddy honestly didn't think life could get better. Reggie was just what Luke needed-someone who helped him make music, but also got him out of the house, to live and have fun. Plus now he had a companion in Chewie who loved playing tag with Geddy, sleeping at the bottom of his perch as if to protect him.
Yet...
There was a nagging feeling that something was still missing. Like they weren't complete, there was something missing.
But they couldn't be, they had found their soulmates...what more could they need?
They were down at the pier again-not busking for once, even though adding Reggie to the repertoire mad them much more money-they were there on a date. Enjoying the boardwalk, sharing an overpriced bag of popcorn, debating playing some of the definitely rigged game or going on a ride on the Ferris Wheel at sunset.
"Something is itching me again," Chewie complained as they sauntered around.
"You didn't get fleas did you?" Geddy teased.
"No...the itchy feeling I got when we met," Chewie replied. "Don't you feel it?"
Geddy had been feeling unsettled all day, admittedly, but he thought it was nothing. He was just like Luke in that way, brushing off the serious until it couldn't be avoided. But now-that nagging sensation was getting stronger and stronger. "Yeah...what could it be?"
"Let's go find out," Chewie said. "They're too absorbed in one another to notice."
Geddy glanced over to where Luke and Reggie were trading kisses over their shared ice cream cone, giggling and teasing as the kiss got messy and sloppy for multiple reasons. They could be left alone for a moment. "Let's go."
The two of them wandered around, following the feeling, past the crowds, towards the edge of the water. And there, almost dancing in the surf was a gorgeous butterfly.
"Oooh pretty," Chewie said softly.
"Indeed," Geddy replied. The two of them watched, enraptured, until the butterfly finally took notice of them.
"Oh, hello!" she said, her voice light and airy. "I didn't realize anyone was there."
"Didn't mean to stare miss, it's just you were...entrancing," Geddy said.
"I like your colours," Chewie said. "And how pretty your dance was."
"Well thank you," she said, landing on Chewie's noe and fluttering her wings for his enjoyment. "I'm Posey."
"Geddy, and this mutt here is Chewie," the bird stated. "Forgive us, but did you feel something...drawing us together?"
"I have been off all morning, but I figured I was feeding off Julie," she replied. "She's my human, and she...where is she? I could have sworn she was right there!"
Posey fluttered about anxiously, straining to see Julie. She didn't feel the harsh sting of separation, so she couldn't be too far.
"We'll help you find here, if you want," Geddy offered. "It's how we helped our humans find one another."
"History repeats," Chewie remarked, rather astutely. "Remember we stay here, they find us right?"
"Right buddy," Geddy said, his voice betraying his affection. "Eventually."
There was a scramble of feet further down the beach, and Geddy smirked as he saw Luke and Reggie running towards them, a stray mark of chocolate on the corner of Luke's mouth. "Took them long enough."
But then, from the other side of the beach they caught sight of a woman with waterfalling brown curls racing towards them, a relieved look on her face.
"Mariposa, donde has estado estaba tan preocupada!"
"I was right here Julie, I'm okay," Posey assured her. "And I made some new friends."
Julie finally stopped, seeing not only Geddy and Chewie, but Luke and Reggie who were looking at her like...like she had always dreamed she would be looked at when her mate found her. "I can see that."
"What have I told you guys about running off?' Reggie admonished Chewie. "Sorry if they were bothering you miss."
"No, it seems they helped Posey here," Julie replied, tucking a curl behind her ear.
"Posey?" Luke asked, then giggled as the butterfly flew by, doing a loop-di-loop before his eyes. "Well hello there."
Julie shrugged. "My mom tried to teach me the spanish word for butterfly when I was a kid-but I couldn't manage mariposa, so Posey stuck."
"I mean Geddy is named after Geddy Lee, and you can guess where Reg got Chewie from," Luke said with a shrug.
Julie giggled at that, but then looked at how Posey was flitting about Geddy and Chewie, the three of them frolicking together, and something in her soul felt like she was settled-like right here and now, with these two was where she was meant to be.
"I'm Julie by the way."
"I'm Reggie!" he said, his smile as bright as the sun's reflection off the water. "And this is Luke, and I think maybe...maybe we're supposed to get to know one another."
"I think so too," Julie said, letting Luke and Reggie take one of her hands each, the three of them shivering at the feeling of completeness, of happiness, of home settle over them. "So what do you guys wanna do?"
Luke exchanged a look with Reggie, and smiled. "Do you think we can all fit on the Ferris Wheel?"
"Never know until we try."
So they set off, their animals following behind them, a song on the breeze echoing the ones taking shape in their hearts.

In Sickness and in Health
The accident happened when they were on tour in Europe. The band had had a rare day off and decided to go to a secluded beach. To bask in the sun and get away from their fans as much as possible. They’d never know if the paramedics could have gotten to him sooner if they hadn’t been in such a remote location, or if they hadn’t had to move him so much if the damage might not have been… It didn’t matter. What happened, happened. The love of her life, Julie’s husband Luke, was paralyzed from the waist down when the diagnosis came in.

fake dating for the never have i ever game
So I've never actually written anything with fake dating! I do have a fake dating premise/wip but I haven't touched it in a while...it involves three people so it's a little complex.
If I ever get around to writing that, though: Reggie’s mom is getting remarried. The two of them are a little codependent and fiercely protective of one another and he doesn't want to show up without a date because then she'll spend all of what should be her night worrying about him. He can't ask a close friend, though; they're all happily in relationships. He's about to resort to Tinder or Craigslist or something.
However, Luke is worried about him and that plan (surely just worried and that's all this weird feeling is), so he asks Julie if she'll go with him. The two of them have been together for a long time. He convinces her (on the condition that they all come up with rules and boundaries).
So Reggie calls his mom and tells her that he's bringing Julie. But Reggie’s mom remembers that Julie was always with Luke. Luckily, while Reggie is stammering, she saves him.
"You waited so long to tell me because she's dating both of you, isn't she? That's okay. I know what polyamory is, Reginald, I'm hip."
So now Luke has also been invited.
They all go to the wedding, rules get broken, internal chaos ensues, Reggie doesn't want to go back to their shared hotel room so he ends up going to his grandma for advice.
And eventually he lets Luke and Julie love him and everything turns out fine actually and when morning comes...
They are still right there with him.
(I want to call it Step Into The Daylight)

Colour fic prompts! Red 3, PeterPatterLina!
Being a ghost lately was hard enough. With the ever changing rules regarding tangibility and visibility. Add in a layer of honest to god magic no one knew how to combat, and well, even Reggie was having a hard time just nonchalantly brushing this one off.
It was like all their verbal filters had been shut off for the day. Not that they really had much of any filter set up to begin with. Which is probably why it took the three of them so long to realize anything was wrong in the first place. Sure, Alex was more talkative than usual but Reggie had figured it was just because Willie was back in their after-lives and he was nervous or excited about their upcoming date.
It wasn’t until Luke openly confessed he was going to go spend the last couple hours of Julie’s school day haunting his parents they knew something was wrong. Worse, Luke didn’t even realize he’d said it, fully believing he’d said whatever lie he’d concocted to explain away his absence.
Things only got more complicated once Julie got home from school. Mortified by everything Flynn was filling her in on that she’d said throughout the day. The only reason they all knew it was magic magic and not ghost magic.
Soon after that reveal, Alex jumped at the chance to find Willie and hunt down a solution. Reggie’s not sure if it was in an effort to stop word vomiting around them, or to get away from the scene that was Julie and Luke gushing over each other on the couch.
It hadn’t started out that way. At first Julie legitimately was trying to explain how confused she’d been all day. Then she caught sight of Luke’s arms and…”Jesus, would you even struggle to lift me?”
The words fell out of her mouth, so quickly, Luke didn’t start sputtering until she was already several sentences into her next thought. Reggie didn’t blame her for thinking it, nor for the comments Luke made about Julie’s wild halo of hair. He’d thought the same thing himself from time to time.
Thankfully, the two of them soon were eating up the inadvertent compliments. Practically turning it into a game to see if they could tell when they’d accidentally said something by the way the others expression shifted. All of their focus on eachother, and not on Reggie.
As far as the others are aware he never had a filter in the first place and he was trying his damndest to ensure it stayed that way.
“Ugh, at this rate those two should just get a room already.” Flynn says, though there is an underlying fondness to their teasing. She doesn’t even bother trying to keep it quiet, Julie shoots a brief blush filled glare before getting understandably distracted by Luke again.
Reggie keeps his tight lipped smile looking as natural as he can, hoping this weird filter thing doesn’t also apply to facial expressions and it’s not obvious how twisted inside he is.
This should be an easy topic of conversation though, right? Not the first time he’d teased Luke or Julie about how smitten and perfect they are for each other. Surely there’s something he can say without completely putting his foot in his mouth?
More than he usually does anyway.
The longer he sits and thinks about it the more suspicious it would seem. Besides he doesn’t have the wits or wherewithal to even pretend to be witty right now.  So he just goes with the easiest solution of agreeing with Flynn.
“Yeah, you’re so right.”
Silence descends upon the room, and Reggie’s stomach drops to the floor with it. Flynn’s teasing smirk has taken on a shocked edge, aimed directly at him.
What did he say?
“What’d you say?” Julie and Luke ask from the couch, where he is actively avoiding looking.
Shit, what did he just say?
“What?” He asks, unable to even force himself to laugh. “I said Flynn’s right. Get a room.”
“No. You said, ‘they’re so hot.’” Flynn says, biting back a laugh and keeping her tone relatively neutral.
“Oh, well that’s just stating facts.” Reggie says, relief almost surging through him. All he’d done was essentially repeat what Julie and Luke were already saying. Anyone could objectively see how good looking they were. Just like anyone could see how much they cared about each other and how well they fit together.
He hadn’t said anything too revelatory. Like mention the bittersweet ache that always plagued his chest whenever he was around them. The happiness seeing them happy despite how much he wished he was more . . .involved.
Flynn grimaces, almost sympathetically. And Reggie didn’t know his stomach could drop any lower. “Oh, god, how much of that was out loud?”
“How honest do you want me to be?” Flynn barely manages to whisper before Julies asking more questions of her own.
“What do you mean more involved?”
Reggie groans, as he finally turns to look toward Julie and Luke. The two of them are not near as slack jawed as he thought they should be. Luke’s trying to bite back one of his stupidly charming smug grins.
“Stupidly charming?” Luke’s smile grows, in spite of Julie’s pointed elbow nudge, while Reggie’s face heats up to an uncomfortable degree.
He’s really wishing he’d gone with Alex. Maybe he wouldn’t have as much of a headache as he does now.  “Could we talk about this later, please? When I can actually keep track of what it is I’m saying?”
At least at a level he typically can keep track of his thoughts and what he’s saying.
A round of stiff giggles and chuckling echoes around him. Only making his blush worsen wondering if he’d somehow said even more than he intended again.
“That’s probably a good idea.” Julie says as she adjusts her seat on the couch “Just so long as you promise to actually talk about this.”
It’s a promise he happily and readily makes. Ease by the way Julie and Luke pull him into hugs and don’t let him go very far for the rest of the day. Even getting pulled into their weird compliments game.

I think Julie and Reggie would bond over pushing Luke’s buttons in the softest fucking ways, and it’s a v nice thought. They’d defo trade secrets but it wouldn’t be ways to annoy him it’d be like “if you quote his song lyrics back to him spontaneously he’ll smile for six hours straight” and it’s v soft
