Day 259: Saturday September 16, 2023 - "You are right where you need to be"
After so many rough nights lately wore me down to about nothing, I found myself on a Friday night not sure what to do with myself when the 8 oclock hour came along and I wasn't called upon to render bedtime services for our demanding little two year old lion boy. I sat outside swatting Mosquitos thinking about how the rest of my family was inside having story time, and I decided, that was right where I wanted to be too. This "my night off" attitude doesn't apply to Saturday nights, when a wild younger buck might have been all about the opportunity to get out on the town and have a drink, this wild old hog is quite happy to lay out on my back, my foot rubbing the dog, listening to William blabber on incessantly as Mama tries to focus and read a library book she's never seen before. From my spot, on the far side of the rug, as far away from William as possible so as to not spook him into thinking I might try to get involved in his Mama-time, I can see the updated family photos for '2' up over their heads. A beautiful evolving space that all started with Mama picking out that chair when we were just getting started up and had no clue what to expect. And now look at us. Parents. Saturday night entertainment was some book about tools on the farm. And by 10pm we were both snoring together in our own bed. The best kind of Saturday night. Truly. I was just so happy to have the heart of our house home and in it and I didn't want any kind of break from that at all - I wanted to lean and fully participate - the joys of family, with everyone under one roof.
Song: Lord Huron - Ace Up My Sleeve
Quote:
9. If your child offers you a hand to hold, take it
The preciousness of childhood, the preciousness of this day, today, this moment when your child wants your hand for comfort can be hard to appreciate in the moment. You might be tired. Or just tired of holding your child’s hand. Take it anyway. As they get older, they assert their independence. That’s good. But in the meanwhile, hold their hand, take care of them with an open heart. And when they ask to hear Curious George for the nth time, read it again as if it were the first. As Gretchen Rubin, explains, the years are short.

Putin must be put to death for his crimes, no matter how. He should not be allowed to die a natural death. The same goes for the entire leadership, in particular, the military ones. From the standpoint of pure justice, what the EU, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International et al think about such executions, is completely irrelevant. The big cities across the EU are clear indicators to the fact that they all have completely lost the sense of reality. Their deplorable performance in the area of law and justice does next to nothing to discourage terrible crimes, and this includes crimes committed by governments. Maybe one day we will live in a sort of utopia as in some science fiction stories, where violent crimes are almost unheard of and capital punishment not required, but mankind of the 21st century is clearly not yet ready for this.

this is a 4-canvas painting by artist RUSS RUBIN called ‘the woman who holds up the world’ from a new body of work titled ‘dream lands.’
here’s the making-of:
youtube
inspired as much by whacked-out old cartoon backdrops as koosh balls and artists from stuart davis to nina chanel abney, russ’s ‘dream lands’ seem to dare us to hurl ourselves inside them, into the possibilities of a beauty beyond rationale. from doodles in little notebooks and on spare bill envelopes to finger-drawn digital mockups, the images finally creep onto the canvas, ever evolving as russ slaps on layer after layer, tweaking curves and hues, building up dimension in the paint as he sweats and squints and rubs out his eyes in his basement lair, making and breaking the rules as he goes, hunting down that ever elusive balance around the bend.

The Dancer Nijinsky
My space is like a sloping wire which I grasp. Up! Freedom from this dirty world’s circle of lights, and everywhere the odour of old plush and whore-like soap. Far away, in the dark tank, chains of foreheads swing up and down. Up! Glass stairs descend from the air. My arms are thin. I press My toes together. Then green lamps, cuffs and violin strings sink beneath. And above me, red, unreachable, fly the hairs of my foolish wig. Hands up! Breathing folk squeal in the dark. You have sucked in my air!
I fall. You want me in your warm holes, you bitches! Rugs, boards, turn like long worms! I stand still, in the midst. Hostile seats in a box, swimming in the murky circling abyss. Drowning in the distance, sleepy lights on tall theatre curtains. My fists rotate. You sit somewhere. Your brain will spurt. You are speeding, pale, through the dark and the glow of the lights, like monkeys in fearful branches. You are flying, circling, far away from me. I am floating on the tips of my toes. The silence circles like bowls of white sky. Light! There sits a crowd, pale and silent.
Ludwig Rubiner’s 1912 poem
