Russh

I’ve been spending some time lately contemplating the things that make me happy. The little pleasures in life. The mundane beauty in the every day. One of those little things (see extensive list below) is my favourite magazine Russh. I was contemplating how I love nothing more than sitting in a cafe (or in this current situation, a bench outside with a takeaway) and reading it. How this magazine would just ignite my creativity and take me to far away places. 

I was thinking about how it sucks that it only comes out every 3 months, and that with all this spare time I have right now, how nice it would be to have a few extra copies. I even went on their website to see if you are able to purchase old copies, the few that I missed buying in busy times. I was thinking in sadness, about all my favourite older copies that I have at my parents house in Adelaide, and how I wish they were here with me in Sydney.

Then today, the most magical thing happened. 

I was outside taking a walk in the sunshine on the phone to my beautiful friend Marie-Carmen. I was almost home, walking on the footpath by the park outside, just across the road from my apartment. When low and behold I noticed, sitting there on the ledge ever so innocently on the side of the road, was a stack of old Russh magazines. It was as though they had just fallen from the sky, like a “here, you asked for it, here it is!!” 

I’m assuming they were left from the creative workspace/warehouse which sits right besides where they were left, for anyone to take. But it still just felt like far too great a coincidence. I’m the only person I know who reads this dam beautiful magazine, “it’s not as though it was the Age, or Elle, no one else other than you walking by would have seen any significance to it” said my friend. I just can’t help thinking she was right, that it was a sign from God, or the universe or whatever. Like OK this is what you need to be happy? Here you go, here it is! Go, be happy! 

It is exactly the sign that I needed, to know that everything will be OK. There will be a b-side to this tape. As I sit here smiling writing this in my tiny studio apartment, in the beautiful golden light of the late afternoon, this song comes to mind.. and I believe every dam word of it.
