thinking abt that scene in the bar in 95 when Marty's whining about Maggie and Rust's giving him the whole "this is a bar not a bedside" speech and Marty says something like "but I'm a friend in need" and just for a sec Rust's face goes like🥺🥺 bc Marty called him his friend.............. what if I die right here

the problem with having learned rust a few years ago is that now i only want to use rust for projects and all of my impressive projects are in rust and i don't have much to demonstrate that i know other languages lol

The noises I make and the thoughts I have when I think of these two are not sth I’m gonna acknowledge but. BUT. I CAN’T AND MAY NEVER TAKE THEM OUT OF MY ROTTEN AND OBSESSED LITTLE MIND 🥹🎀

Observation of the day: I'm starting to think that a big reason for my lack of progress on my hobby projects is that I just hate writing code in Rust. It's actually a meaningful threat to any of my big aspirations getting done. Maybe it would be different with a paycheck, but as something done in my free time out of love, I'm not sure I can sustain productivity in a language that makes such large semantic mountains out of such small functional molehills.
I have spent basically all day working on a filesystem iterator that doesn't buffer the whole result in memory, and has a predicate to allow "gitignore"-like functionality. It still doesn't work, and has just reminded me why I gave up last time and just buffered it all in a Vec. This is not a day's worth of features. I could write this as a Python generator in like 15 minutes.
So now I'm having to weigh the sunk cost of everything I've written already, vs really wanting to make a New Year's Resolution where I don't spend my precious hours on this earth on any language where the norm is fighting hard (or giving up) implementing basic behavior.

i have so many thoughts about his gender and how he's kind of textually a woman and/or abinary (read tags if interested)
#i dont stand for cis rust cohle. that's not real. come on...#like... super dissociated from his body and his desires. and he has to keep a tenuous hold on his identity via various forms of self control#('contemplating the idea of allowing his own crucifixion'#being sexless#being able to compartmentalize his identity to fit a need)#says himself that relationships between men and women don't work and are only fit to procreate#says his daughter's death spared him from the sin of being a father#the act of being a man or being a woman are two extremes that are too harshly defined for him#edges drawn too sharply and not allowing for any flexibility which he needs#to be a man is to be the executioner and to be a woman is to be predestined to be the martyr that is what he believes#these are choices too difficult for him to make so he leaves them unmade vague up in the air for other people to stare sneer and interrogate#and it's worse yet when his body is equal parts weapon and a stress relief mechanism to others#gets his bodily autonomy stripped so often it's second nature to him. uses barbiturates like a 50's housewife#he cleans up real fuckin' pretty— hisself and the messes he's roughly shoved into#he's tired of talking to other people like a human being— he speaks another language entirely. one more visceral and raw#one that says the truth and nothing but.#if i think about the scene in episode six with maggie and what it means—#if the two of them are women#or if one of them is something that isn't exactly a man—#i think i will lose it#rust's looser swagger (or lack thereof) in contrast to marty's prevalent machismo btw... fascinating#his kind of deer-like charm. he Looks vulnerable only he's protected by an impermeable barrier#like don't fucking touch him. you can't#rambled so MUCH. sorry. but if you understand you understand#rust cohle#true detective#disasterpiece.png

wowowowow making a programming language is really really fun, i’ve got enough planned so far to begin actually implementing the basics, and i’m so excited to actually start writing code in it! (well, functioning code that is, i’ve already written some code for example)
anyways, i’ve got a question. my language is a bit complicated, and i’m not very familiar with some of the libraries i’m using (Chumsky, which i’m a bit familiar with, and Ariadne, which i’ve never used at all). should i try and implement a simpler language first to get more familiar with them, or just jump straight into implementing my real language?

Rust Cohle had my attention when he dropped the ‘I don’t have the constitution for suicide’ line but I have to say his most compelling trait so far has been that haphazard stack of nonfiction books on being a detective but not knowing about The King in Yellow. whatever is going on here is sparkling
