s3 finale is unbelievable. and I dont mean the desperate battle on the beach with a twist ending yeah yeah its black sails we've all seen that. what I MEAN is I did not expect silver to confess to flint "hey remember when we were slowly dying because of your insane choices like every other tuesday? I think you are a god and I said as much to billy" which boy you could have NOT waterboarded that shit from me that's sooo embarassing. gayass. and in reply flint really straight up. no pun intended. came out to silver. he fucking came out. and silvers reply was "oh so now I'm the most important person in your life? your confidant? your silly rabbit?" and flint said yes and then they immediately swore to kill each other because they dont know how to deal with that. they need pirate therapy. they need a marriage counselor. oh my god.

like. imagine you are james flint. you have a horrible secret tragic backstory you won't tell anyone about how you became the fearsome and capable pirate captain you are today. that tragic backstory involves being the bisexual unicorn for a rich couple's poly triad dreams in 1700s england. you confide in someone outside of this dynamic for the first time after everything happened about what happened because they asked to know. you bare your soul uncharacteristically about being bisexual, polyamorous, and griefstricken. nobody else but one person in your life has seen this of you. the person you confide this to is someone that genuinely worried about you killing them in front of your entire crew like, literally 10 days ago, for confessing to betraying you abt smth that took months of efforts and dozens of death to try to achieve. this person, who is the most kindly understanding and softspoken person on your ship of ragtag hardened pirates, looks you in the eyes by the soft lighting of the campfire under cover of nightfall after burying literal and now metaphorical secrets, and says, in order, to your FACE, that 1) firstly he is a hashtag gay ally (in the 1700s) and so sorry for your loss but 2) he's been thinking lately it's kind of weird everybody around flint dies and he doesn't want to be next bc everybody flint trusts is a dead man walking bc 3) hey flint have you ever considered maybe it's your fault this happened and that you are doomed bc of just who you are as a person? and 4) but it's okay actually bc if it came down to it i think i've grown as a person enough that if anyone dies in this partnership it will be you 😤

like. to his face. i repeat, to the face of the most feared pirate this side of the americas, who has considered killing him within the past month or two, who opened up to silver in the most baring way possible for a regular man, much less a man like flint--to his FACE silver said that "maybe the homophobia you experienced that ruined your entire life was actually your fault for existing and everybody you love is doomed to die because being around you is a curse :/" in the most GENTLY understanding tone of voice while staring deeply into his eyes and professing genuine care and friendship and respect for him.

i'd lose my mind. i'd implode. no fucking wonder flint takes a preparatory, longsuffering swig of liquor with the most exasperated expression i've ever seen on a 40+yo man's face the literal second silver's mouth is open for longer than 2 sentences. silver is SO goddamn lucky this man stopped seeing him as an enemy 6 weeks ago and instead switched to begrudgingly ominous mentor and weird older brother.

and they're both still being friendly about it like silver isn't casually portending one of their deaths because of the other because of the inherent darkness of their souls and like flint hasn't killed men on his own crew for saying less than this behind his back. this is fucking insane energy. i want to study them both. i want to microwave them at high heat. i want to put them in a jar and shake it. you two really live like this?

everytime i rewatch black sails, i find myself like vane more and more ngl. the first season really tries hard to trick you into thinking he’s just unnecessarily, banally, and uncompellingly an asshole (in the overwhelmingly compelling asshole show), whose one redeeming feature is that he’s kinda pathetic too. but geez s2 really nails home everytime that hes the best and the coolest and the most honest (maybe even most compassionate) of the mcs up until this point, barring anne of course. and on top of that i actually kind of think he has the best pre-s3 speeches. like obvs s4 flint is yknow s4 flint. and s3 max is so insane i actually cant handle it. but oh my god charles vane’s letter and his fuck your legitimacy eleanor speech and his hanging speech are so good. and fuck what i said earlier isnt even true. bc his s1 speech while hes looking in the eyes of the little boy he used to be is actually like the bestest. like fuck ok. charles vane is the best actually. #1 anarchist boy. 10/10 would want him in my commune. hed point blank refuse to help with the dishes tho so 😬.

Wispers on the wind (Wotw) Au: the duology

A whole garden of flowers (ahgof) [WIP]: 12 years pre-canon, hunter disapeared, and was replaced with Maple, a omni-genderfluid, "system" (explained in brother au) pan orientied aroace nerd grimwalker. maple is the grimwalker that phillip likes the most, least ab#used and is the most Phillip (due to hair color) looking. instead of becoming the Golden Guard, Philips made them the Platinum Peacemaker. Phillips gave it a heart transplant, allowing them to do some magic, but she can't do some of the more draining/ diffcult spells. he looks like a (depending on the day) andro, masc, fem, or all/none mix of hunter, Phillip, and @catboymoments huntlow child. tracks IF she went to hexside/ special interests are oracle, illusions, and poitions. he is 15 physically, tho she was "born" Abt 6 months after hunter dissperred. instead of a wolves and cardinals for hunter, foxes and starlings are maples symbols. Platinum peacemaker outfit is a gender neutral GG out fit, with black inplace of white, deep violet =yellow, gold= dark silver. instead of a barn-owl mask, smybolising wisdom, helpfulness, and death of the unworthy, the PP( noo) mask is a phoenix, which smybolises rebirth, second chances, the afterlife.

My name carved in a rock (mncir)[WIP]: Ahgof's brother story, about this Au's hunter, a demiace biro boyfreak he/it (called graves [gray for short] in this) who 12 years pre-canon was "kidnapped" by Darius, but lost, and fell into a titans blood pool, entering the inbetween, and meeting collector. Graves learned many wittabane and Phillip things, and is far more unhinged than canon. he is still 16, but far less mentally stable. it watches luz and the gang, and TRIES to help (cause he has conversed with kings dad before like 3 times) out giving hints, using the wind. oh did I forget to mention that it can control the wind in this AU? yeah, so he uses that to push importiant papers toward luz, whispers things in the gangs ears (sound like that little voice in ur head but its the wind saying it but not out loud? that makes sense?). the main hexsquad can kinda hear it, but not really. maple however, being a grimwalker so having a intamite relationship with death, hears it quite well! maple mistakes this as a system, and gray plays along. it meets luz when she enters the inbetween in "yesterdays lie", and luz pulls him out, ignoring its demands to stay. he stays tho, and after a little bit freaks cause he's like "oh shit maple " and maple has not heard for their head mate gray in a minute. graves doesn't spoil the whole "phillip is Belos" stuff tho.

something that i think is really interesting about billy's view of flint in s3 is that he thinks flint's death (if it's in a self-sacrificial way) will not absolve him of his sins in life but that it will make up for the hurt he's caused. or at least that billy wants it to. he pushes flint to take the maroon queen hostage so that flint will die, but flint will die for the crew. billy says in s3e6 "with all the shit that he's done, the things he's gotten away with, [flint dying to free them from the maroons] would have been fair. that would have been right" and that he wants to see "the moment the world finally catches up to [flint]" if/when he dies dueling teach. billy has a very simple idea of justice - he wants flint to die for the death and destruction he has caused, no matter how. that will make the world right, that the narrative will be balanced again.

but what billy doesn't know, and what makes me INSANE about this show is that the full quote from billy is is "I think part of the reason I've been able to stand by his [flint's] side is that I wanted to make sure I've got a good view of the moment the world finally catches up to him... and this story starts to make sense again." but to flint, what he has done is in service of his own justice. justice for the deaths of thomas and miranda and james mcgraw, for the theft of his home in london and again his home in nassau. but to billy, HIS narrative identifies flint as the villain. as the monster. for billy to get justice, flint must die. but it's SUCH a good line, because it also prompts the viewer to think - in OUR narrative, which follows flint and silver mostly, flint must succeed. we want him to beat teach and take the fleet back and overthrow the british empire. flint is shown to be a murderer but he is also shown to be deeply deeply human and we are set up to sympathize him. but it makes you consider what other voices we aren't hearing. who else has been hurt by flint's actions? what narratives have flint as the villain ? none of the characters in black sails are the heroes in every story - but to who are they the villains?

there are a million ways that one can and should  tie black sails to treasure island and examine how the show has fundamentally shifted the entire structure of the novel (in a million phenomenal ways i admit theyre all really fantastic ways) but one of the most bizarrely satisfying changes that has resulted from black sails giving a narrative to the history of Treasure Island is how it changes the introduction of Billy Bones and John Silver in the novel. 

this isn’t really an intelligent post i’m a little too brain rotted today for that but in the novel Billy Bones is very much your cliched old sailor who’s kind of going insane from years being marooned and dealing with life on the sea, etc, and most adaptations make him a healthy mix of unnerving but also generally kind to Jim Hawkins. You’re supposed to look at him and sympathize with him as the old sailor who’s on the run from pirates and you are supposed to feel some kind of fear or momentary grief when he gets the black spot and dies at the arrival of the infamous Long John Silver at the Benbow Inn. 

but by making him the one responsbile for Long John Silver, by making him the puppeteer in the creation of this myth that takes John Silver and molds him against his will into this now dethroned king of pirates, and giving us the fallout of their entire relationship through s3 and s4, it changes the entire confrontation from an innocent if not haunted old sailor fearing for his life to a man knowing full fuckin well that he is going to one day further answer for the actions he took. 

rather than making him just the cliche monstrous pirate, it places Silver in the role of avenger coming to settle this account that has been open and festering like a wound for decades, allowing him to not only try and get his hands on the map to Flint’s teasure (a significant point of closure of course) but to also make sure that Billy has recieved his own Black Spot and answers to it. To get a little bit of closure for himself as well under the guise of hunting Flint’s treasure.

your empathy as a reader is meant of course to be entirely with Jim and his mother but there is an arguement that could be made that by offering this history, black sails has placed the reader’s spare empathy entirely on silver, changing a narrative thats been established sinced the books publication in 1883

when i say the depth black sails offers to an otherwise unreliably narrated novel (that i never the less have loved since childhood) makes me go absolutely insane this is 100% the kind of shit im talking about

Frank Castle x Karen Page (Kastle) - Daredevil Season 2/The Punisher S1+2

MY BABIES! Daredevil is amazing. Punisher S1 is one of my fave TV series ever. Frank and Karen are EVERYTHING! They first meet and the ship is built in Daredevil S2 it's a must watch for them but yeah. Insane chemistry. The actors adore eachother and pushed the ship to be romantic cause they loved it so much.

Carol X Daryl (Caryl) - The Walking Dead

They were my LIFEEEE. Unfortunately the show enjoyed baiting Caryl/Not having them speak for seasons at a time after around S5 and there were multiple ageist gross reasons where putting their 40+ ‘heartthrob’ with....a woman the same age as him??!?! GASP! was too much of a leap (but have him speak to a 17 year old character for 1 episode and guess what people liked? anyway....) so yeah I was no longer able to tolerate it BUT the show was amazing S1-5ish? The Caryl content was beautiful. But they are not canon or endgame 11 years later. So tbh don't do it to yourself 😂

Sawyer x Kate - LOST

LOST was my first obsession! Skate was my first ever ship! The blueprint! Made me who I am today! LOST remains one of the best TV shows of all time too. They aren't endgame cause they had a torturous love triangle with a guy Kate had ZERO chemistry with and they felt sorry for the basic lead who needed someone to care about him for the show to end properly........but skate are pretty much the main couple for 5/6 seasons. yes I'm still salty.
