Update On The Update...

So, as I was bug fixing and finishing up the update to hopefully have it ready by tonight or tomorrow; something honestly very devastating happened.

When I booted up the IDE, I had these triangles on a few of my files and when I clicked on one of the files, specifically Act 1 of the prologue, the file DELETED ITSELF.

I am low key tearing up right now just out of frustration, I worked on this earlier today and everything was fine, I was SO close to finishing this update and everything went to shit out of nowhere. I checked my file folders and the files for startup, choicescript_stats and prologue-1 are all gone. I have no clue as to what the fuck has happened, I thank GOD that prologue act 3 and 2 are safe because they were the most work. If anything happened to Act 3 I would have lost my shit.

I have a backup of my game from the last update in a separate folder, so Act 1 is fine and I can recover it no problem because I don't think I have made any recent changes to it.

What breaks my heart is that I have added huge code changes to stats and start up because I actually implemented the trait system. It was supposed to be a nice surprise for you all that traits were actually displayed and functional, but all that coding and work just poofed away right in front of me.

I am groaning none stop as I write this and I am extremely frustrated because with my recent slump delaying me quite a bit, it's been getting me a little down that I haven't been able to be as active as I'd like. I finally got some good amount of work done and wanted to surprise you all with a big update as my way of saying sorry and now this happens.

I'll keep complaining if I don't cut this short now, I'm going to do some investigation and see if I can find a way to restore my files. If not, I'll have to suck it up and re-code the stat and start up pages which will suck but... well it's not like there would be anything else to do but that if it comes to it.

I'm sorry for the bad news, I know I have hyped up this update to be out by this week. If I can restore the files, it still will be but if not; then it might be pushed back to next week. I feel so unaccomplished lately and I am really sorry for that. I have so much not done and that really bothers me, I promise I am trying my best.

I was hoping to get something done for my challenge today, but I’m going to save it for tomorrow at noon (hopefully). Today my old pet rabbit passed away suddenly😢. I’m going to use the rest of the day to recover before getting back on track. I’m doing a bit better now, but thoughts, prayers, best wishes, or condolences are welcome. Thank you all for your patience as my family and I recover from our loss.

I just wanted to thank everyone who supported the Kitty Snack/Fandom charm Kickstarter!

Unfortunately it looks like we won’t be reaching the end goal, so I won’t be able to do the larger production that I had initially planned. Sad little update

Got this plant as a cutting which was going wild in the prop box. But soon after it was removed, chaos took way and it’s gone downhill since. Everyone a leaf grows, the old one dies off. It’s been this way for months and I felt like giving up on it. However, I’m keeping my head up as it now lives in the detolf. Hopefully it comes back to life.

💖 Day 3.5 is now available! 💖

For the last couple of months, only Server Boosters had access to the 3.5 update... Buuuuut now it's available for everyone to play in the 14DWY Discord — and soon itch.io once I'm happy with the QA and state of the game — so please don't feel pressured to join unless you want to!!

What's been added to the 3.5 version?

📺 Streamer Mode!

I've been told that it's difficult to stream and monetise age-restricted videos on YouTube and Twitch, so I added an option to remove the sexual content and strong language used in the demo.

Now y'all can invite Ren into your bed for cuddles without putting your streamer career on the line /silly /lh

This won't affect the 18+ rating or dark themes/elements of the game, however! Although Streamer Mode will prevent you from seeing any "gruesome" CGs in the future, most of the core elements of the game will still be tied to the choices and decisions you make. So you won't miss out on the overall experience by using streamer mode!!

⚙️ Custom Pronouns!

It only took me one entire year to get around to it, but you can finally choose your own preferred pronouns (or use a set of pronouns instead)... At the cost of being able to change them mid-game ^^;

Since the original pronoun screen wouldn't update until a new scene was displayed, I temporarily disabled the feature. But once I find a workaround, I'll bring it back!

💗 Choose how others perceive you!

You can now choose how the cast and narration perceive you! Originally, the narration was kept strictly gender-neutral (outside of pronouns and genitalia picked by the player), but this will soon change in future updates.

For more clarity: you don't get to choose the words specifically, but you can choose between masculine, feminine, and androgynous terms!

📋 Separate top and bottom genitalia!

You can now choose your tatas and pps separately! >:3

Alongside that, you can also choose your preferred body type!

I removed the "both" genitalia option because a few players still assumed it was an obscure version of "intersex". That wasn't my intention and I don't want to mislead anyone, so I took it out for now ^^;

I also didn't want to include a screenshot of the new genitalia choices in action (because it's NSFW), so y'all get the same character menu screen for the nth time instead lmao

📱 Relationship Screen Overhaul!

You can now change your own status for more immersion, and long-term Server Boosters will eventually be able to submit and use their own icon within the game as well!

Stalking finding your friends has now become easier by using "Buddy Maps"; a new app that allows you to see the location of all the cast members!

I want to offer players more incentive to check the relationship screen since they tend to miss the status updates, so hopefully this might help ;v;

It also says it "updates every few hours" so folks don't go overboard and check every 5 seconds to see where Ren is gdsghf (also keep in mind that he's a hacker lol)

🖤 Additional Scenes Update!

Day 2 received a brand new CG!!!!! Originally, I planned on only adding a few CGs sporadically throughout the game, but it didn't feel right to leave Day 2 so... empty... so I added a brand new CG to (hopefully) make things feel more balanced and natural!

If you decline Teo's offer on Day 3, Leon will now call and try to convince you to reconsider. However, players are still allowed to decline, and if they do, they'll reach a dead end.

After listening to feedback on itch, I changed some of the dialogue during Days 1-3 to make it seem more consistent! They're only small changes though, so it's honestly not worth looking for sdgjssga

🎶 Updated BGM and SFX!

I wanted to try out a different style of music to see if it fits the vibe of 14DWY more! The BGM features more acoustics to suit the "beachy" theme of Corland Bay, though I made a conscious effort to include piano elements as well to stay true to the original!!

I figured it'd be better to give players a live example before I make a poll (to see if they prefer the change or not) and publish it to Itch.

Some new SFX have also been added, though it's very minimal and honestly not that noticeable.

How to download and play the update?

(warning: clicking on the following links will open Discord!!) To download the Day 3.5 update, simply join the 14DWY Discord server, verify your age, and visit the "14dwy-updates" channel!

Alternatively, you can also wait until the update is publicly released on Itch to play it as well!! (It normally gets released shortly after a round of QA testing/getting feedback from the server, though I may release it earlier if I feel like it hehe ^^)

Taking my cat in for an ultrasound tomorrow. I really have no idea what to expect. I love him so much, truly my baby. 🥺 He is 12 years old approx. I have to drop him off and leave him there this time. It's going to be traumatizing for the both of us. I gotta ask to see if my partner can pick him up instead of me as they are way likely to finish before me. This appt cost $$$ though, the whole situation is super stressful. 0/10 do not recommend.

She called for her But got no reply

She got worried Her cat usually came when she's called But, this time, she didn't come

The bowl of cat food seemed to be untouched

Strays often came and went This she knew since she's been feeding them But one was different

More than just a "stray"

No, she was special A little source of unconditional love Something she had a genuine sort of connection with

She prayed that she'd see her That her cat would answer her call And come to the patio again

The next day, she didn't come She called for her, looked around Still, the cat didn't come

She got a sinking feeling

Strays disappearing is something she's known However, the disappearance of one is just another In a line of misfortunes that year

Her heart is breaking

Where could her cat have gone? Perhaps something unfortunate did happen The gray one showed

But her cat didn't

Usually, the gray one gets run off Or her cat would show shortly after they've left But not this time

She went to look for her First in the usual spots and then somewhere different Her heart would be shattered

She found her But she was gone

The sky was graying She had a feeling of dread And she was right

Something terrible did happen

Fate was cruel She now knew why her cat didn't come And her heart had broken

Her little sunshine had gone Snuffed out and claimed by Death Some would go "That's sad" and keep it moving

But not her

Her cat was more than just a stay She was hers

She got to know her This cat was a kindred spirit A connection she had through and through

But, now, the connection is severed Snuffed out like a candle's flame In circumstances so cruel

Some parts of her were already gone But this part of her had died

Memories and regrets swirled in her mind

If she had broken the rules, maybe she'd still be with her If she got her rehomed, this wouldn't have happened, perhaps So many "What-Ifs"

For most, strays are little more than nothing A dime a dozen, easy to miss, replaceable But NOT this one, not to her
