"Browse Safely" malware alert
I found a "Browsing Safely" add-on my Firefox, it's easy to spot because who uses Yahoo Search any more? All I had to was disable it and restart, and I reported it. I did run the safety software Malwarebytes after and my Mac is uninfected.
But I was surprised to find that there are hundreds of skeevy malware advice sites out there that look useful and may give reasonable advice, but could easily be spreading malware themselves. Avoid anything with "malware" in the domain name!
The browser sites have the legit information:

Use Firefox! Really, it's great.
A lot of things are thrown at you or decided for you in this age of technology. Making the choices that you can make in your own interest is always a good thing. And, hey, personal agency!
You Have until June To Dump Chrome
Google has announced that starting in June 2024, ad blockers such as uBlock Origin will be disabled in Chrome 127 and later with the rollout of Manifest V3 (#Mv3).
Firefox is RIGHT there

I have no idea how to begin this post. I’m shocked no one else on Tumblr has made it before me, since this news came out February.
But…
Starting “later this year” (no explicit date), Google will begin using AI to detect “minors lying about their age” (accounts that claim to be 18+ but aren’t.)
This is based on what you search, and the videos you watch on YouTube.
If you are an adult who watches things aimed at teenagers on YouTube- your account will be incorrectly flagged as “lying” and you will be, immediately and automatically, locked down. Restricted Mode on YouTube with no way to deactivate it, SafeSearch always on full force, privileges suspended.
It gets worse. If Google thinks you are under 13- the minimum age to have an account- it will, after a brief delay, DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT.
If you are a fan of a children’s show- say Thomas the Tank Engine, Super Wings, or Handy Manny- or even one aimed at “older” kids like Big City Greens- YOU ARE IN DANGER.
So… what can you do?
As far as anyone knows, the tracking is account-based, so if you browse or watch children’s content while signed out you should be safe.
WRITE TO GOOGLE. Tell them how displeased you are. Do not use “nice” words- they do not deserve them.
Search for alternatives to Google Chrome, Google Search, and every function an account can provide. Type these queries into the search engine a few more times than usual, to give them a little heart attack. They deserve it.
SPREAD THIS NEWS. Not just on Tumblr- spread it on every platform you have. And real life is a platform, too.
If you speak more languages than just English, translate this warning- this is coming to the US first, but that doesn’t mean it won’t eventually spread to the rest of the world.
And finally, WARN YOUR FRIENDS WHO MIGHT BE VULNERABLE TO THIS. To that extent, I’ll be tagging:

You have to wear power armor for your job. You're a ranger, it's your job to go out to under explored planets and other heavenly bodies and retrieve things, or make contact with people, or deliver things. As romanticized as it is its mostly just walking through places humans can't safely walk through.
Seeing your power armor for the first time was weird. It was entirely metal, but it was very sleek, form fitting, with a pinched in waist and chrome texture. The helmet had a large visor, like a motorcycle helmet, you could see someone's eyes through it, you'd be able to see more but a gas mask like thing covers your mouth and nose below the helmet. You're even allowed by the company to paint it or add stickers. You feel so elegant within it, so powerful, so modern.
On your first mission you understand just how much you'll be wearing your power armor. You're on a planet with an atmosphere that would poison any humanoid on it, and it's inhabitants breath that stuff so there's no changing it. You spend months trying to track someone down, and never take off your armor once.
As time goes on there are more and more missions like that. You've walked through a forest filled with poison plants. Several places with no atmosphere at all. A planet where it rains glass. The skeleton of a long destroyed spaceship. A place so cold the ocean is solid ice. A place so hot your blood would have boiled if not for your armor. Days, weeks, months, spent inside armor. The company doesn't let you take off the armor on missions, but it's just safety, in almost all of these places it would kill you the momment you took your helmet off. They don't give you much time between missions, so you get used to being in armor very quickly.
Your armor takes care of you. Nutrition is injected into your body, and waste product is removed directly from your guts. The suit cleans your entire body without you noticing it. You can sleep while the suit still walks for you. You don't feel any pain or heat or cold. You can even browse the internet with it, and you can call or text anyone without moving your hands. They joke that the armor masturbates for you, but it actually does send pleasurable sensations throughout your body when you need that type of sensation. It all feels weird at first, but soon it feels normal. You had some robot freinds in highschool, you wonder if they felt like this.
When you’re between missions, and spending time in various hub stations or port cities, you realize you're wearing the armor most of the time too. Sometimes you take the helmet off but that feels weird, you don't like the feeling of air on your face. The other rangers you know, the ones who have been doing it for years longer than you, don't ever want to be outside of their armor.
You eventually get permission from the company to go back home for a few weeks to see your family and freinds. When you get to your homeworld you take off your armor for the first time in a long time. You don't really have normal clothing so you're wearing what you had when you first left nearly two years ago. Your family and freinds all want to catch up with you but it's all so weird and awkward.
You feel like you've been skinned. Every little thing touching you feels so uncomfortable. Your body seems so gross and soft and week, everything feels so wrong, and hard to move. You're not used to taking care of your bodily functions or grooming, and it's both hard to adjust, and gross for you to have to do these things. The idea of putting food in your mouth seems so disgusting. You can barely walk on your own now.
You tried to go on a walk with your joyfriend. But the wind on your flesh disturbed you so much that you began to weep. They tried to hug you but it only made things worse.
After that you just wore your armor for the rest of the trip. Most people you know were disturbed. They wanted you to quit the job but the pay was too good, and you wouldn't know where else to go. It was just another thing everyone would get used to, just another mundane fact of life.

Assignments FAQ
Assignments start going out now! Please read the following FAQ and confirm that you’ve received your assignment and read the rules (for example, “Got the assignment and confirming I’ve read the rules”) when we DM you! We broke the links to try to avoid setting off spam filters, so simply delete the colons when you copy and paste the URL into the address bar.
If we get tossed into spambot purgatory partway through assignment delivery, we’ll switch to one of our sideblogs and failing that, we will start emailing you at the addresses we confirmed with you.
When are gifts due?
Fully edited main podfic gifts are due on December 17th. We’ll make the gift deliveries on December 24th! Remember, no minimums. The treats deadline this year will be December 22nd.
“Fully edited”?
The default expectation is that you will be submitting a “traditional” podfic that you’ve recorded and edited to remove all flubs (at minimum). We understand that in certain fandoms there’s a sub-genre of podfic commonly called a “cold read” which is minimally edited or completely unedited and includes chatty asides and reactions. Please only submit a podfic in this format if your recipient has specifically opted into/requested it in their Dear Podficcer letter. If your recipient doesn’t mention anything about liking cold reads or chatty podfics, then assume that they’re expecting an edited podfic (though if you’d like us as mods to reach out to your recipient to confirm what kind of podfic they’re expecting, we are happy to do so.)
Who can I tell about my assignment?
Keep it secret! (Keep it safe.) Except for your beta–you can tell them. :D
I’m new. How do I find a podfic to record?
Use your recipient’s letter as a guide in terms of story choice. Try to find a story that hits at least one of your recipient’s likes/wants. You must respect your recipient’s Do Not Wants (DNW). Some participants have suggested stories in their letters or bookmarks or have provided information about a close fandom friend who can help with vetting stories. You can also reach out to your participant via anonymous asks or by asking mods to pass on messages if you have further questions!
When finding a gift to record for your recipient, please follow permission norms in your fandom. That means asking for permission if the author doesn’t have a permission statement. Transformative works policies are often found in author’s profiles on AO3.
You can also use the Fanworks Permission Statements list (https://fpslist.org/) as a resource to find authors with blanket permission in your fandom or download the Blanket Permission Highlighter (https://github.com/BrickGrass/Blanket-Permission-Highlighter). The BP highlighter will automatically highlight any author with blanket permission in green when you’re browsing AO3. You will need to have the greasemonkey or tampermonkey extension (if you’re using Firefox or Chrome respectively) installed first
How do I submit my gift?
To submit your finished podfic, you will use the Google forms that will be posted next month.
What are treats?
Treats are gifts that you can make for people who aren’t your recipient. We will be publishing a spreadsheet of all requests next week that you can peruse. Anyone can make treats–you do not have to be signed up for the exchange to submit them. You can make as many treats as you want, and you can gift a treat to multiple people. (If you, as a recipient, do not want to receive a multirecipient treat, please DM the mods or add yourself to the Opting Out tab in the treats spreadsheet.)
Please note that you MUST submit your main gift first before you can submit any treats. We will not be accepting treats until you have submitted a main gift for your recipient first.
Do you have any other advice for the gift making process?
We sure do! If you’re planning a long, ambitious project, consider making & submitting a short gift early on first. Long gifts are great to give and receive, but sometimes life happens and this gives everyone a safety net.
We also recommend prioritizing recording your ENTIRE gift FIRST. We can find you editing help if needed; only you can record.
If you think you will need an extension to finish your main gift at any point, please DM us as soon as you can. We’re willing to work with you, but would rather hear from you earlier than later if possible.
Okay, I’m excited! What are my next steps?
1. Wait for our message (please be patient, we have no idea how it’s going to go!)
2. Write back to us to confirm you’ve received your assignment and read these rules.
3. Squee on your own blog (tag it with #itpe or #informal tumblr podfic exchange) or in the Tumblr podfic community. Just remember to keep who you were assigned a secret!
4. Check back next week for more information about treats!

I just wanted to tell you that the Chrome browser started to flag and block your uploads as suspicious regardless wether one downloads them via simfileshare or mediafire. I'm not sure why.
Is it just me or are you seeing it with other Simmers too? I don't use Chrome because it gave me too many headaches and was a resource hog but i know it has a Safe Browsing option that's turned on by default and can be overzealous. Maybe it started flagging package files or sites with links to SimsFileShare after some Simmers had their downloads hacked. I've been keeping an eye on mine and haven't found any issues
I'm on Firefox and everything's fine when I click on one of my download links

♡ Misc. Kokuyo Gang Headcanons ✧
Ken is averse to showers for multiple reasons, but one of them is because his body has adjusted to a very... sparse shower routine. Anything heavily scented irritates his nose, and many soaps will even give him rashes. He would rather die than to admit that he can only stand using unscented baby soap.
He sleeps better with something pressed against him, like a wall to his back, while hugging a pillow, or with his face in the crevice of the couch. It might stem from him growing up sleeping in crowded accommodations… he would love one of those human-sized dog beds.
୨୧ ⁺˳₊ ♡ ₊˳⁺ ୨୧
Chikusa built his own signature weapons, and his hands are rather dexterous. Just think about all the yo-yo tricks he is capable of. He doesn’t enjoy using computers at all, the digital screen and blue light actually hurts his eyes, but his typing speed would be impressive if he had to use a keyboard. He learned to touch type fairly quickly and has good hand-eye coordination.
He enjoys working with rubik’s cubes and has gotten really good at it. He has red-green colourblindness, and he really didn’t like asking people for the difference between “this shade and that shade” when it came to the cheap cubes with stickers and paint that would chip and peel off. One day, he will get himself a nice colorblind-friendly cube, but he hates splurging so he just copes for now.
୨୧ ⁺˳₊ ♡ ₊˳⁺ ୨୧
M.M. is quite extroverted and loves to pick people’s brains. She especially loves dressing up in her best outfits to go to jazz bars and gather all sorts of intel (and coins) from the patrons there. It has a mix of her favourite things: dancing, a classy atmosphere, rich people that she can chat up to charm their wallets open, and she occasionally actually plays her clarinet for people.
She doesn’t like the way that Fran speaks French and finds his regional accent atrocious. To that, he speaks French just to annoy her, even when she replies in Italian or Japanese as a way to say “that’s enough, please use literally any other language that we both know please.”
୨୧ ⁺˳₊ ♡ ₊˳⁺ ୨୧
Chrome has befriended the local stray cat colony and a murder of crows. They all leave little gifts on the doorstep for her, ranging from small coins to dead mice. She gets more than a little flustered at the latter but understands that it’s just in their nature.
She is not an adventurous eater and has her safe foods that she will turn to just to curb her hunger. She used to run purely on being in survival mode but has since learned to keep snacks in her bag just in case. The few things that she does make for herself, she has gotten really good at.
୨୧ ⁺˳₊ ♡ ₊˳⁺ ୨୧
Fran tends to zone out, and usually no one can tell because his face looks exactly the same as when he’s completely present and aware of the current moment. The only way you can tell is that sometimes, at the end of a mission debrief, his eyebrows raise slightly, and that’s him realizing that he absolutely wasn’t listening and has no idea what they’re doing now.
When it comes to social deduction games, he’s the best one out of the gang. Mukuro used to be the reigning champion of Kokuyo gang board game nights, until Fran came along.
୨୧ ⁺˳₊ ♡ ₊˳⁺ ୨୧
Mukuro enjoys browsing vintage and oddity stores and collecting unique jewelry. He has pieces that incorporate teeth, bones, furs, and hides of various animals.
He’s fairly adventurous in almost every aspect of the human experience and is open to trying any food at least once (granted it doesn't.. kill him, but he’d probably find a way to come back from it anyway), trying different crafts, and consuming different media. However, he’s learned that he doesn’t particularly enjoy most craft-related hobbies, and rarely has the free time to read or watch anything to the end unless it’s fairly short (but he would tear through a good book if given some leisure time).
୨୧ ⁺˳₊ ♡ ₊˳⁺ ୨୧
Chrome, Fran, and Mukuro all run cold. They’re the ones always turning the heat up in their shared spaces, while Ken, Chikusa, and M.M. complain about it being too hot and to mind the energy bill.

If you use Google’s Chrome browser regularly, you’ve likely seen a new privacy-related screen in recent weeks.
With a combination of soothing rainbow colors and language that sounds very pro-privacy, the page announces "Enhanced ad privacy in Chrome." You have two options: Settings and Got It.
It's easier to hit Got It, but if you're concerned about your data and privacy, take a moment to learn more about what's happening and which settings you should change. Google isn't necessarily going to default you into the settings that best protect your privacy.
This is a new way Google is trying to track what you do on the web to help advertisers target you. Google says this is better for your privacy than older tracking methods. But it’s still tracking — and people who care about their privacy may want to shut it off. It’s all part of Google’s promise to phase out the use of cookies for tracking in Chrome.
What settings do I change?
From your Chrome browser, go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Ad Privacy. You can also try this link in Chrome: chrome://settings/adPrivacy.
You'll see three options and for maximum privacy, can turn them off, one by one. If the toggle is gray, it's off, and if it's blue, it's still on.
Ad topics is a feature that uses your recent browsing history to detect what topics you're into and show you personalized ads. If you spent the week looking at dog sites, maybe you'll get an ad for a dog bed. Google says these topics are deleted after four weeks and if you keep it turned on, you can see the list yourself. Turn this off.
Site-suggested ads is an option that lets individual sites you've visited make similar conclusions about what you might be into (dog sweaters? hammocks?) and show you ads for that on other sites. If you keep this on, you can later manually block individual sites from the same screen. But it's easier to just, yes, turn this off.
Ad measurement lets different sites and advertisers share information about you to try to figure out how well their ads are doing. Turn this off.
What else can I do?
Google's Chrome isn't the only browser option you have. If you're on a Mac you can use the Safari browser, or Firefox, which works across operating systems. You can also experiment with different settings and third-party tools to minimize the data Chrome (and other browsers) collect. If you want to go the extra mile, you could try a VPN, but make sure you choose a trustworthy provider.
This isn’t the only new setting Chrome users have seen as of late. Google recently added an ‘Enhanced Safe Browsing’ mode for Chrome and Gmail users, to warn them about suspicious sites. The setting, according to our Tech Friend newsletter writer, Shira Ovide, is worth turning on to protect yourself even though there are some trade offs.

"I cant switch to firefox because..."
"It's too much effort to switch"
If you install firefox, it will ask if you want to import your browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords*, and in a as of october of this year your extensions as well.
*dont use your browsers built in password manager. they're very much not as secure, even firefox's. read about passwords here
You can't import cookies for security reasons, but external tools can do that for you (try to avoid this. if you do have some data you need moved over, usually websites have their own "export data as file" option)
Everything else that you may need to fully complete the switch will come up naturally over time, the initial setup can be half an hour, or if you're happy with how it is at the start, less than 5 minutes.
"They don't support [website]"
Firefox is entirely up to date on current HTML, CSS, and Javascript standards. Theres a bunch of websites that compare all the features that firefox supports compared to chrome and stuff and they're often just, wrong? I've used some MANY of the features that firefox supposedly doesn't support. Plus they're constantly updating it for added support of new and old features. anything they refuse to add is due to security reasons, and nobody uses those features anyway.
In my experience i've never had to switch to chrome to avoid a website breaking. Sometimes it was because of an extension* but thats a very easy fix. Firefox has profiles built in and really good troubleshooting features.
*(stop using privacy badger/possum, please, it's built into firefox now, most of all privacy addons are completely useless because firefox already does it for you!!! ublock is safe tho i love u bbg)
If a site tells you "switch to chrome to see this site as intended" they're lying, and you can use a user agent switcher to trick them into thinking you're on chrome
"i need chrome for work or school"
i'd say 4 times out of 5 you don't, they say you have to use it but in reality it's just that they have better control over what you can do with it.
My high school had a shit ton of extensions automatically installed on chrome, including some shit that was literally spyware, it reported to teachers and staff all of your tabs you have open at any given time, and they could force shutoff tabs and force things open. They had absolutely no control or ability to monitor me when i switched to firefox, and there werent any problems that arose from it.
You can also just use chrome for school/work and use firefox for your personal web browser. separate your work life and personal life, you can do this with two different firefox profiles as well.
"I don't like change"
The only thing that's different about firefox in a day to day usage is the bar at the top, which is entirely customizable. Right click, customize toolbar, and you can mess around with it to make it the same layout as chrome. you can also get rid of those weird empty spaces to the left of the search bar they add by default for some reason. mozilla pls fix. You can further use themes to make it even look even more similar to chrome, I did that with my school profile to differentiate them.
When I switched, there wasn't anything I missed, I didn't have any of the "ugh i dont like how [blank] is in a different spot", or "ugh they dont have [this]". it just worked. It's a web browser, it works and does everything it needs to be. I didn't miss chrome at all, nothing felt different and the adjustment period to the new browser was LESS than what i felt when chrome updated the design in 2018.
"I have no reason to switch"
If you care about privacy at all (which you should), i could list hundreds of reasons why you should switch. Google removed "don't be evil" from their code of conduct for god sake lmao. Every new change they do is a ploy to get as much data from you and feed you as many ads as possible.
The dumping of Manifest V2/dynamic filtering not only makes most adblockers useless, it makes any sort of content blocking worse. Blocking trackers, malware, intrusive and annoying website features, these are things ublock does for you which chrome is doing its best to get you to stop doing. They want you to be exposed to predatory ads and malware so they can get more money.
If you have issues with ram usage and performance issues, firefox includes a lot of (lesser known) features to monitor RAM and CPU usage. While it seems as it may use more RAM, it automatically releases it when more ram is needed by other programs, effectively using less. It also uses much less ram in total in cases where there's 10+ tabs open.
Firefox can automatically block sites from auto-playing videos whenever you go on them
As mentioned firefox has so many more customization features than chrome, allowing you theme and move around everything to your hearts content
While on desktop, Chrome and Firefox are very close in functionality, on mobile, Firefox is working to add full extension support to mobile, it already has a small catalogue of extensions you can use, such as uBlock Origin. It has all of the desktop privacy features as well.
Firefox, only has about 3% of the market share. Other than that, chromium controls over 70% of all browsers, with apple controlling over 20%. The less people use firefox, the more control TWO companies have on the very act of using the internet. The Mozilla Foundation is a fully non-profit organization, with full ownership over the mozilla corporation, they don't have shareholders, and prioritize an open, safe, and private internet. Don't let them die.
"but what about..."
there's probably other reasons but the last of my advice:
you can have multiple browsers at once, install firefox and don't get rid of chrome. try firefox, see if there's anything you don't like, and try to fix it, and whenever you feel the need to, you can go back to the browser you already had.

stabbing everyone who says that all chromium-based browsers are "basically chrome" or "also chrome"
thats like saying that oranges and bananas and cherries are "basically apples" just because they're all fruit
the fact they use the same fucking browser engine doesn't mean they're the same thing!! the fucking browser engine doesn't affect how a browser treats your privacy or what ads are displayed or whatever the fuck. that's entirely up to whoever made the actual fucking browser
you're not "morally corrupt" for using a chromium-based browser unlike what a lot of ignorant kids are convinced of. chromium is an open-source project with a bunch of community-managed forks for various purposes which does NOT include the sort of tracking and vendor lock-in that people complain about google for. you can use chromium right now with absolutely no link to google by just using ungoogled-chromium, a fork of chromium which also comes with extra privacy features. or you can use chromium on its own which doesn't include any tracking or whatever, but that still uses some google services in the background (such as Safe Browsing).
if you wanna use firefox, go use firefox. I use firefox every day because I just like its feel and i've sometimes forked firefox for silly purposes. but if you like chrome's look and feel, or like being on the bleeding edge of web technologies (including recent stuff like WebGPU without crashing your entire OS), using chromium or ungoogled-chromium is just as good.

If you're new to tumblr for whatever reason it may be, here's some advice:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Put an age (pronouns good too but not necessary) in your bio. It helps 18+ blogs like myself filter out minors to keep them and us safe
Set a profile picture, try not to use a selfie just out of general internet safety (but do whatever you want I'm not your mom), bot accounts either have some stolen picture of a random woman from google images or have no pfp, so having something custom even if it's just some anime screenshot or a picture of a worm, it helps
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hide your Likes and Following. It's just best for people to not see your business; if you aren't a 18+ blog but you find yourself following and liking spicy stuff, or if you don't want people to crawl through your likes or following and decide to write you a callout post because they decided something in there was morally wrong, then I'd recommend keeping this stuff private.
Tumblr media
Following is for posts in chronological order by the blogs you follow.
For You is an algorithm based on the kinds of posts, blogs, and tags you interact with. For You isn't as bad as Twitter's, but its still a weird algorithm.
Tumblr media
If you want people outside of your following to see your posts, tag them accordingly. Instead of tagging NSFW, tag as NSFT as tumblr is still using its horribly inconsistent porn ban and tags like NSFW sometimes won't work.
Tumblr media
Download xkit https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xkit-rewritten/ as it gives a lot of features the site should already have (You can also use Xkit to create a blacklist that could potentially allow you to completely omit any posts that are tagged with certain things, such as #spoiler, #nsft, #tw [insert trigger here]. Also, try to be good with tagging things that could be potentially triggering by tagging as #[trigger] or #tw [trigger]. If you aren't sure what to tag, just try your best and if someone replies or DMs you asking you to tw tag it, please try your best to be nice and just tag it accordingly in the future. But again, I'm not your mom, so you can do whatever you want I guess)
And not necessarily exclusively for tumblr but some other good QOL stuff to do while you're doing all that:
Tumblr media
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Use FireFox. Please. I care about you. Chrome is a bloated browser that eats your RAM, and soon it seems like they're not going to play nice with adblockers or similar plugins to make your internet browsing as safe as it should be. Do yourself a favor and make the switch, you can import all your tabs and bookmarks and you'll thank me and yourself for it.
Tumblr media
https://ublockorigin.com/ Download uBlock Origin for FireFox, it is the best adblocker+ currently available. Look into their website for more information on what it's capable of. none of this is hard required (but please actually for real put an age in your bio i'm not kidding) so don't take this as "we'll kill you if you don't do everything just like we do" but if you feel lost or confused, I hope this can help you just a little bit

You were locked in your basement?? Btw, if you do move, perhaps hide your phone in like your clothes or pocket as you’re wearing them. Trust me, it’s easy and they won’t suspect to look through the clothes you’re wearing and if you have to change clothes or whatever, just hide your phone again in the current clothes you’re wearing or even inside of your shoe. If you have a binder, it’s perfect to hide your phone inside of there.
This is a very long post that I made to explain my situation + it's a vent
Nonono not locked. I just meant my parents made me be down there with them. Yeah no when I said "trapped in my basement" I just meant with my family cuz the tornado sirens were going off don't worry. It was just kinda annoying.
I appreciate the help, but my secret device is actually a tablet they got me a year ago, and FORGOT PARENTAL CONTROLS, because my stepdad was setting it up and he is not familiar with the type of tablet it is. They thought they threw it away (I had two of em. One was much more monitored because it was from when I was little. They are just these Amazon Fire Tablets, and they thought they threw both of em away, because when they were cleaning out the closet they couldn't find it, and just assumed they threw it away earlier. I got lucky).
Lucky for me, it was actually in my room. The one my stepdad set up. The unmonitored one where I can browse the internet as I please and check out whatever website I want. The only thing was that I couldn't download any apps I didn't already have, as my mom would get a notification because of how the Amazon App Store worked.
I can probably put it in a backpack, but the wifi would have to change and they'd probably notice the tablet on the plan or whatever, and the tablet doesn't use cellular data.
My actual PHONE is monitored. It's an android with this silly google family link thing on it, and my parents (technically my stepdad, he's the one in control) can easily go into the app on THEIR phones, and check my screen time, and every app I have on it (and I can't even download an app without my stepdads permission. If I try to get an apk from the internet and install it, the thing blocks it), as well as what websites I've gone too recently.
HOWEVER, on the subject of checking websites, they can only see what websites I browse on google chrome. My phone came with another Samsung Internet browser, and on THAT, I can open an incognito tab (dubbed Secret Mode). But I have to be sparing with that because my parents will notice I was using Samsung Internet a lot if I use it too much, and then whoops, that'll get monitored too.
So basically, if we move, I lose what is basically my only lifeline, the only reason I'm politically aware, and the only resources I have as a trans person (my parents have offered groups, but I'm too socially awkward. I absolutely prefer face-to-face communication, yes, but with people I know, thanks. If I don't know you, let's just chat through Tumblr or QuoteV, yeah?). That's a problem.
But it's fine, we live in an expensive area because we got lucky when we moved in two years ago. And they said they will only move if we can stay in the same school district. So, fingers crossed, everything is too expensive. Lots of houses going up for sale around here, but they're all too expensive or not the conditions my parents want or need.
TLDR I already have a monitored phone, my secret device is a tablet, my parents never allowed me on social media because 'it's not safe' and they think I can't take care of myself, and if we move I lose the social media because of needing to switch wifi, which is big bad because it has been supporting me and keeping me entertained

Safari vs Chrome on Mac: Which Browser Works Best for You?
Choosing between Safari and Chrome on macOS isn’t just about aesthetics—it affects battery life, speed, memory usage, and your overall workflow. This guide compares both browsers to help you decide based on real performance and compatibility factors.
1. System Integration and Optimization
Safari, built by Apple, runs on the WebKit engine and is tightly integrated with macOS. This allows for:
Faster loading times on native sites and apps
Smoother animations
Secure integration with Apple Pay and iCloud Keychain
Chrome, which uses the Blink engine, prioritizes cross-platform performance. It works well across macOS, Windows, and Linux—but lacks the deep macOS-specific optimizations, which may impact overall system responsiveness.
If your Mac feels slow overall, you might also want to check out iPhone Black Screen of Death: Causes and Fixes for tips on system-wide performance diagnostics—it applies to Macs too.
2. Memory and CPU Consumption
Safari is more efficient for Mac users:
Consumes less RAM, even with many tabs open
Limits CPU usage for background tabs
Chrome is more powerful but also more demanding:
High RAM use, especially with many extensions
Background tasks that continue running after you close tabs
This becomes critical if you’re using heavy software like Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro X on the same machine.
3. Battery Performance on MacBooks
If you’re working on a MacBook, battery life matters. Safari is built with power efficiency in mind:
Less drain during streaming or long browsing sessions
Minimal background activity
Chrome tends to drain your battery faster due to:
Continuous script execution
Background syncing across open tabs and Google services
4. Extension Ecosystem and Functionality
Chrome wins when it comes to extension variety, offering:
Advanced SEO tools
Web developer utilities
Project management integrations
Safari, while improved in macOS Monterey and later, still has a more curated and limited library. However, it now supports Chrome-style extensions via the same APIs, offering better compatibility than before.
Want to get more out of Safari or Chrome extensions? Learn how system alerts can interrupt browsing in our guide on How to Turn Off SOS on iPhone. Accidental activations from background shortcuts are more common than you think.
5. Security and Privacy Features
Safari is privacy-focused:
Blocks cross-site tracking
Prevents fingerprinting
Uses native iCloud Keychain for secure password storage
Chrome offers Safe Browsing and sandboxing but is deeply tied to Google services, making it less ideal for users prioritizing personal data privacy.
For accessibility and visibility preferences that improve privacy and readability, explore What Does Emphasized Mean on iPhone? Many users overlook these native features.
6. Syncing and Cross-Platform Access
Chrome is ideal if you:
Use Android, Windows, and macOS interchangeably
Need to sync history, bookmarks, extensions, and passwords across all platforms
Safari works seamlessly across Apple devices but is limited to the Apple ecosystem. If you’re a Mac + iPhone + iPad user, Safari’s syncing is smooth and secure.
7. Speed and Web Rendering
Safari is faster at rendering static or image-rich websites
Chrome handles JavaScript-heavy applications (e.g., Google Docs, Figma) better
If you're running productivity apps in-browser or doing live collaboration work, Chrome may offer a performance edge.
8. Safari or Chrome: Use Case Recommendations
Choose Safari if you:
Want maximum battery life
Use Apple-exclusive features like Handoff, AirDrop, and Keychain
Prefer fewer distractions and a lightweight browser setup
Choose Chrome if you:
Rely on browser-based extensions for work
Use multiple platforms (Windows, Android, Linux)
Need powerful web development tools or advanced features
9. Additional Performance Factors on Mac
Even the best browser won’t help if your Mac is underperforming.
Mac running slow?
Clean up your drive and reduce login items
Rebuild app databases like Outlook if it's lagging
Use Smart Previews in Lightroom to speed up editing
Audio not working?
Check output device settings
Reset sound services via Terminal
Troubleshoot Bluetooth or wired device connections
More Mac tips like these are in our piece on MacBook Release Dates in Order, which shows how Apple has improved browser compatibility over time.
10. System-Wide Performance Tips
Free up storage space:
Keep 15–20% of SSD free
Clear caches and uninstall unused apps
Manage startup items:
Go to System Settings → General → Login Items
Disable non-critical apps
Use Activity Monitor:
Track memory and CPU usage
Force-quit resource-heavy apps
Stay updated:
Install macOS and browser updates regularly
Update extensions and plug-ins
Optimize your network:
Switch to faster DNS (e.g., Cloudflare, Google DNS)
Use Ethernet where possible for a stable connection
Final Thoughts on Browser Choice
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to the Safari vs Chrome debate on Mac. It comes down to what matters most to you:
Safari offers speed, privacy, and efficiency
Chrome offers flexibility, extensibility, and cross-platform syncing
Many users find that a hybrid approach works best—Safari for casual and battery-sensitive use, Chrome for work and development. For more Mac-focused performance guides, browser tips, and system hacks, explore our latest articles on Macswire.
