She's seen the royal generations come and go for years and years, she held the same disdain for all of them, except the current sorcerer, who she followed around, as silent as a butterfly."

Cedric took his head from his hands, looking down at Sofia where she sat by his seat, her eyes droopy. “Yes, my dear?” he said, setting aside his next book and turning on his stool to face her.. “I’m sleepy, Papa,” Sofia said, a subtle whine in her voice. He’d never seen Sofia in this light before, she’d always been beyond her years, in the time that he’d known her at least. It was almost refreshing to see Sofia actually act like a little girl for once, not stressing about everyone’s problems, how she could fix them and what she could do to further protect the kingdom.  

Cedric looked over to his window, finding that it was pitch black outside, then to his clock. It was 12 at night, poor girl must have been waiting up for him.

Cedric didn’t know much about Sofia’s birth father as a man, only that he was a sailor who was lost at sea when Sofia was five, and she loved and missed him dearly. He never asked about him, he felt it was insensitive, and he never wanted to get Sofia upset. He’s heard bits over the years, Sofia didn’t remember very much and he wasn’t exactly close with Miranda. Sofia brought him up with a smile on her face, but there were days she wanted to hide by herself in her room, mourning him and thinking about the memories they could have made if he’d never stepped foot on that ship.

Cedric looked down at Sofia, who hugged him as though she were worried he would slip away. And she was.

He felt almost cruel, like he was baiting her with the idea of her father coming home from sea after all this time, after being told he’d never come back, she’d never get to hug or even see him again.

“So, she thinks I’m her late father…?” Cedric asked quietly, as more of a statement than a question.

where : a ship full of prisoners just off the shore of the summer isles what : the arbor has sent ships in crusade as a response to the burning of the septs, the waters are now treacherous as an impending fight is about to take place.

tw: imprisonment and drowning.

the months dragged on as the second son of goldengrove sat within his cell aboard a ship, with only a small window of sunlight upon to remind him of the world outside of it. it seemed a deal was struck with the osgrey's, with his life being the cost of part of it, though to some it was death, to him it was imprisonment, which felt more of the same.

still, he persevered. calculating every day how he might escape, most possibilities ending in actual death. every time they docked and set foot outside, laboring all throughout the day, the eyes of mathis rowan honed in on the sea - his escape.

the opportunity finally came, as a game of cyvasse was played with a fellow prisoner, with small pebbles found within the dusty floor of the cell, when yelling was heard from the upper deck. he looked to the man across from him, almost as if they both understood what this could mean, and soon, chaos erupted within the . guards entered, barking orders that mathis could not quite make out. they were suddenly filed together, being brought upon the main deck of the ship.

was this finally it? were they finally being disposed of? mathis figured the time would come sooner or later. perhaps it was too many mouths to feed, not enough results yielded from their labors, regardless it only made him realize the window to find an escape was closing.

the sun, something so golden and cherished to him, was suddenly blinding, strikingly so, orbs squinted as he tried to make out the waters surrounding them, but he did not have time to assess the situation fully before he heard the first scream, a man pushed into the water, deep and unforgiving, and then another, and another….

this was it. he thought. trying to loosen the ropes that dug into the flesh of his wrists as the haunting sound of bodies hitting the water far below continued. there was more yelling, suddenly, panicked it seemed. why were the guards panicking? eyes adjusted to the light finally, and this time he saw sails in the near distance, sails so familiar to him he thought he must be mistaken.

but he was not, and suddenly a fight broke out, swords drawn, defenseless, mathis found himself amongst the remaining prisoners, cornered. only two options remain: jump, or be cut down. a couple took the first option, weighing their odds, a few, including mathis, stood there.

as the guards moved in closer, the second son of goldengrove closed his eyes. inhaling deeply. the sea air was refreshing, the sun was warm on his face, perhaps this was an ok time to go. head tilted upwards, eyes closed, he spoke the words he had learned in his youth a lifetime ago:

"to the gods we belong and to the gods we return."

suddenly, the booming sound of a cannon rung in his ears, the splintering of wood blinding, the screams of men deafening. and instantly the ship was boarded by men of the arbor, men he recognized somewhat. would they recognize him?

they skillfully cut down the men of the summer isles, men who were not trained in such combat as those of the arbor were, men who were likely fairly green except for a skirmish here and there. mathis found himself dodging blows and eventually on the ground. a hand grabbed him roughly and stood him up. it became clear that he was the last man standing at this point, now surrounded by arbor sailors.

the ropes upon his wrists had come undone, and he held up his hands to show he was not one of the others, and not armed. this was his only chance now.

"my name is mathis rowan, second son of goldengrove, brother of tirius, former hand to cedric tyrell. and i humbly request safe passage back to the reach."

”Is it a fortune or is it a woe?” is a isekai/historical/marriage of convenience/ slowburn romance. The main character Dylan was just a villain in the original story, but this time she’s the one marrying the ML instead of her little sister who in the original story dies during childbirth which leads the ML and FL to each other. Dylan knows that in a year the ML, Cedric will meet his fated love and doesn’t want to stand in his way. However in order to protect her little sister she agrees to marry him instead and share a marriage of convenience.

It’s a very slow burn romance however the two main characters definetly have chemistry and this is one of those stories where the male isn’t a complete ice cold douchebag.

I dropped this story after the very first chapter a few years ago because the author is horrible at drawing the eyes. They looked like little sailor moon characters, BUT the art improves heavily in the first few chapters. Leaving me to think that maybe they changed authors🤷🏻‍♀️ What I’m trying to say is: Don’t let the eyes disway you in the beginning the story is very good and the world is well built on, the characters are fledged out and not at all two demensional and the banter is good.

With over 90 chapters to date, you’ll have a romance filled weekend to look forward to. Definetly worth adding to your To Read list🧚🏻‍♀️

Anakin Skywalker/Padmé Amidala, because they were probably the first ship I felt very intensely for. The older woman who has her shit together and younger, emotionally instable guy are generally a dynamic I feel very drawn to.

Jughead Jones/Veronica Lodge - they have some really cute moments and could have a good dynamic, either as friends or romantically. I could watch six seasons of just them solving cases together.

Being extra here and adding some current obsessions: Armand/Daniel (Interview with the Vampire 2022), Tyler/Xavier (Wednesday) and Lexi/Maddy (Euphoria).

1st ever ship:

It was probably something like Wendy and Tiger Lily from Peter Pan or Haruka and Michiru from Sailor Moon. I do remember that when reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I kind of had a thing for Harry crushing on Cedric, but Cedric dating Roger Davies, which is a great example of me making up obscure headcanons for meaningless side characters. The first realrealreal ship that shaped my concept of romance were Anakin and Padmé after watching Star Wars: Attack of the Clones at the cinema. Bby me projected onto Anakin way too hard and since I had a massive crush on Padmé, I obviously rooted for them. I thought, all the secretiveness of it, all the obstacles, made it even better. (I should add that I wasn't aware where Anakin was heading, because I didn't know the original trilogy then.) Until this day, Star Wars is an epic romance first and a science fiction movie second to me.

Currently reading:

Starting The Vampire Chronicles and currently still deciding if I should start with Pandora or Interview with the Vampire. And I'm about to finish Yes, Daddy by Jonathan Parks-Ramage.

Last movie:

Last movie that wasn't a rewatch was Glass Onion. Still a tiny bit upset, Benoit Blanc wasn't dating Lieutenant Elliot, but I loved all the outfits he wore in the new movie.

Coffee, a veggie burger and I'll have a tangerine for dessert.

Interview with the Vampire, 1x02. Trying to take it slowly because we won't get episodes 3 and 4 before next friday.
