Kupwara: An abode of Sufi Saints-Khursheed Dar (Pohrupeth langate)
Kupwara is among those few districts of Jammu and Kashmir that are blessed in many ways. Apart from the sheer natural beauty that Kupwara district possesses, the district also has a rich heritage and culture. The diversity that this district possesses in the form of various tourist sites, pertaining to different facets of history, religion, and culture is phenomenal. One aspect of this diversity…

khanqah-e-moula and shah-i-hamadan mosque in srinagar, kashmir, commissioned by sultan sikandar butshikan of kashmir in 1395. it was built in honor of mir sayyid ali hamadani, a persian sufi traveller (and now saint) who was heavily involved in the widespread conversion to islam in kashmir a few decades prior. it's the first khanqah (place for sufi orders/brotherhoods to meet, study, and worship) and one of the first muslim sites in general in kashmir. the decorations on the walls inside are made with papier-mache.
kashmir's traditional wooden architecture, of which this is an example, was built tall and sturdy in order to withstand earthquakes. the combination of papier-mache and wood also unfortunately makes khanqah-e-moula susceptible to fire - it's suffered three. the most recent was in 2017, after which it was restored.

Ignorance is powerful and brings about an extensive change in one’s personality to the extent that one changes from infinite Consciousness to the limited consciousness of the individual self or ego (pasu in Kashmir Shaivism).
So, What is the nature of this ignorance?
Abhinavagupta says that the cause of ignorance is the sense of “duality” or “otherness.”
In a human body Consciousness rises as a primal thought “I am” or “ego” sense. Due to ignorance, ego identifies with the physical body, calls itself “me” and sees the rest of the world as “other.” The ego causes the sense of duality and differentiates one from the totality or Wholeness (Nonduality).
Nonduality is the awareness that the entire universe is one with the Self. Nonduality is the sense of one’s unity with all things and beings in the universe, the state of universal love. Ignorance is akin to a Son who, by an unfortunate turn events, is separated from his Father. When at last his Father come back to him, Son does not recognize him as his own Father, and takes him to be “other” than his.
-----
"The father is not the son, and the son is not the father."
Jiva (purusha) is equal to God only from a very far distance, very potentially. To become equal to God, Parampurusha, one must become a rishi, reverend, saint, or avadhuta, and even then this will not be exactly equality. Parampurusha was never conditioned, was never a sufferer, was never in delusion (the jiva is almost constantly in delusion).
Klesha - obscurations;
The term “klesha” is translated as “affliction” - “chagrin”,"misfortune", meaning that kleshas are the cause of all suffering. In essence, kleshas are certain defects of human consciousness. Therefore, we translate this term with the word “darkness,” which, it seems to us, reflects both the corresponding emotional state (darkness) and the state of consciousness (darkness, as the opposite of clarity).
God is a special soul, a special Purusha, which is not touched by obscurations, actions, their traces (samskaras) and their fruits (karma).
Parampurusha has the seed of unlimited omniscience.
Being unlimited in time, he is the guru of the very first gurus.
AUM is the (first, original) word meaning God.
(Vladislav Bessmertny)

Day 20: Lalleshwari!
Lalleshwari, also known as Lal Ded, was born in the early 1300s in the Kashmir Valley; not much is known of her family, but they are generally held to have been high-caste Brahmins. She was married young, but her marriage was deeply unhappy, and in her twenties she fled the abuse for a more spiritual life.
She became the disciple of a wandering Shaivite teacher, and eventually took up the mantle of a religious leader herself - walking from town to town, giving up material possessions, and, in Lalleshwari's case, composing religious poetry.
The Kashmiri language as we know it today emerged in the 1300s, and Lalleshwari's 285 vakhs, some of its earliest known poems, helped codify it as a literary tongue. Her work - and her teachings - took influence from mulitiple faiths and cultures and spread beyond Shaivite Hindus; the Sufi saint Nund Rishi counted her as one of his teachers.
She is revered in modern Kashmir, both for her philosophy and her poetry.

What's wrong with Nehru? He wasn't a Saint but what warrants calling him a 'asshat'?
i don't remember saying this, but the indian national congress negotiated the transfer of power from the british with the support of the subcontinental masses, that is, the proletariat and peasantry from across the spectrum of caste and religion.
these people gave life and limb for national liberation, but as soon as the congress came to power, they betrayed the masses and initiated a regime of nationhood for the explicit benefit of the bourgeoisie. the congress tacitly supported the genocide of muslims during partition, coerced several states to accede to the indian union, of which manipur is but one example, and initiated the colonization of kashmir.
jawaharlal nehru was the figurehead of the indian national congress at the time, the violence that we witness in contemporary india was instated on his watch, i think that warrants calling him and asshat.

🎶✨ when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to. then send this ask or tag 10 of your favourite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)✨🎶
Thank you @greenlikethesea for the tag. I'm sick and miserable so an excuse to listen to some of my favorite songs and share them with people is exactly what I needed today.
I'm choosing to take "actually listen to" to mean "pay attention to when I hear them."
Saint Louise is Listening by Soul Coughing
I almost picked this song as my anti-Vecna song, because when it plays it's all I think about. I went in a different direction with that because while I can't feel pain while this song is playing I can't feel anything else, either. Mike Doughty's solo version is also very good, but doesn't quite have the same soul numbing effect, though that is probably more the difference between hearing a song for the first time at 30 vs at 15 than any changes he made.
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
I remember when smart phones were new things there was this ad for, I think, an iphone. It was making the point that you could listen to your music on your phone, and it would pause automatically when someone called. The ad used this song and I remembered turning to my boyfriend and saying something along the lines of "but if a call interrupted Kashmir I would be so pissed." What idiot ever thought people would want those horns to go silent so their bank could ask them to complete a customer satisfaction survey? When this song plays, I put my phone in airplane mode.
Trouble no More by The Allman Brothers Band
I could really put any Allman Brothers Band song on this list. Their music, particularly their live recordings, is fantastic. Lyrically they're a bit meh, but honestly who cares about the lyrics when the guitars sound like that? There is also a nostalgia factor, as they are very much the soundtrack of my childhood.
The Mountain by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer
Another case where I could have chosen any number of songs by this duo. I chose The Mountain because it's the one that's been on my mind the most lately. The three albums they released before Dave Carter's death are not merely musically beautiful but lyrically interesting, frequently dense with metaphor. If you hear someone arguing song lyrics don't deserve to be treated like poetry, point them at this group. Dave Carter and Mike Doughty have been vying for the title of favorite song writer since 1998, and if their music were anything alike maybe I'd be able to make a final determination.
The Mouse Police Never Sleeps by Jethro Tull
Yes, it's about a cat. Nothing deep about this one, I just find it amusing.
Who shall I tag in this? With absolutely no pressure to respond: @babeluda @motsimages @ruffbun @sharpbutsoft @jaewul @sthound @counting-dollars-counting-stars @anarchyiswhathewouldhavewanted @nico-di-angelfish @flashyysins

Jesus does not abandon those who hope in Him; therefore, let us humbly ask Him: Our Lord and our God, hear us.
Christ our light, brighten Your Church with Your splendor, —so that She may be for the nations the great sacrament of Your love. Our Lord...
Watch over the priests and ministers of Your Church, —so that after they have preached to others, they themselves may remain faithful in Your service. We ask this especially of Fr. J.F., F.M., and J.C. Our Lord...
Through Your Blood, You gave peace to the world. —Turn away the sin of strife, the scourge of war. We ask this especially for the conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Kashmir, and Yemen. Our Lord...
O Lord, help married couples with an abundance of Your grace, —so that they may better symbolize the mystery of Your Church. Our Lord...
In Your mercy forgive the sins of all the dead, —that they may live with Your saints. We ask this for Jeanne Deckers and Annie Pécher in a special way. Our Lord...
Our Father....
Let Us Pray: Stay with us, Lord Jesus, for evening draws near, and be our companion on our way to set our hearts on fire with new hope. Help us to recognize Your presence among us in the Scriptures we read, and in the breaking of bread. You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reunion Island and the Anti-Colonial Legacy: The Untold Story of the Royal Family of Lahore
Introduction
Hidden within the complex colonial history of Reunion Island, a small landmass nestled in the heart of the Indian Ocean, lies a fascinating story that deserves to be told: the story of the Darsanesing family. This unique narrative, filled with struggles, resistance, and survival, traces the journey of a royal lineage from India. Through the story of Darshanesing, a Sikh prince in exile, we explore how the family not only survived exile and persecution but also left an indelible mark on the cultural identity of Reunion Island. This tale, woven with resilience and courage, is a key piece in the anti-colonial puzzle of Reunion, offering a mirror to reflect on the island's history and its battles against colonial oppression.
Historical Context of Reunion Island and Colonialism
To fully understand the story of the Darsanesing family and its impact on the identity of Reunion Island, it is essential to dive into the island's historical context in the 19th century. At that time, Reunion Island, under French rule, was a strategic stronghold in the Indian Ocean, marked by a diverse population comprising Europeans, Africans, Malagasy, Indians, and Chinese, all facing different socio-economic realities. Although slavery had been abolished in 1848, the labor force was quickly replaced by indentured laborers, primarily of Indian origin, brought in to work in the sugar cane plantations. These working conditions, often close to slavery, created an atmosphere of tension and latent revolt.
Reunion Island, like other French and British colonies, was a complex battleground between colonial domination and aspirations for freedom. It is within this context of tensions that the story of Darshanesing takes root. His story is not only one of forced exile but also a living testament to resistance against colonial rule.
Anti-Colonialism in Reunion Island and External Influences
Anti-colonialism in Reunion cannot be separated from the external influences that shaped its evolution. Anti-colonial struggles in the Indian Ocean, Africa, and Asia echoed on the island, where many inhabitants drew inspiration from these movements to challenge French colonial authority. Darshanesing's story, while personal, fits within this tradition of resistance, echoing the fights led by other iconic figures against colonial domination.
The Story of the Darsanesing Family – A Royal and Anti-Colonial Saga
Darshanesing, also known as Darshan Singh, was born in 1841 in Lahore, in present-day Pakistan, as the only son of Maharaja Nau Nihal Singh, ruler of the Sikh Empire. This once-flourishing empire extended over a vast territory covering about half of present-day Pakistan, Indian Punjab, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, a part of Tibet, and the Khyber Pass region in Afghanistan. In 1849, after the death of his father and the assassination of his mother, the young Darshan Singh was declared stillborn to protect him from the British Crown, which did not want any potential heir to threaten its authority.
Unfortunately, British secret services, known for their brutality and determination to eliminate any opposition, discovered his survival. Darshan Singh then had to flee again, this time to Chandernagore, a French enclave in India. There, he was the target of a bomb attack, probably orchestrated by the British, determined to eradicate any potential threat against their empire. Miraculously, Darshan Singh survived but realized that he had to flee even further to escape his persecutors. Thus, he boarded an indentured laborer ship to Reunion Island in 1863, seeking to start a new life far from the clutches of the British Empire.
Upon his arrival in Reunion, Darshan Singh quickly stood out for his courage and determination. Meeting one of the island's major landowners, he negotiated a deal that allowed him to settle in Piton-Saint-Leu. He traded four precious jewels—a belt, a diadem, a Sikh dagger, and a fourth unknown piece—for a relatively large piece of land, marking the beginning of his new life as a farmer and merchant.
Survival and Resilience Through Exile
Darshanesing's resilience in the face of adversity is exemplary. Despite the loss of his family, his empire, and the constant danger of being discovered by British agents, he managed to rebuild his life on foreign soil. His marriage to Bounia Ramtali, a Palestinian Muslim originally from Lahore, reflects the intersection of cultures and religions on Reunion Island. Together, they founded a family, consolidating a unique heritage imbued with Indian royal influences and local Reunion traditions.
This intercultural union is more than a mere matrimonial alliance; it symbolizes cultural resistance against efforts of colonization and domination. Through their children, notably Marie Estella Darsanesing, and their descendants, the Darsanesing family embodies perseverance against all odds, perpetuating a royal heritage that defies colonial attempts at erasure.
The Impact of the Family's Story on Reunion Identity
The story of the Darsanesing family resonates deeply in the collective memory of Reunion Island. It embodies a narrative of survival and resistance but also a living testament to the complexities of Reunion's cultural identity. The island's cultural diversity, the result of centuries of immigration, slavery, and colonization, finds an echo in the family's history, which represents both the fight against colonial injustice and the creation of a unique identity rooted in diversity.
This family story, with its deep roots in India and tangled branches in Reunion, illustrates the many challenges and triumphs of the island in the face of colonial empires. It highlights the importance of preserving local narratives to understand the past and build a future based on recognition and respect for all the cultural components of Reunion.
The Lost Treasure of Lahore and Its Symbol of Resistance
The four jewels exchanged for land in Reunion are not just valuable artifacts; they are also powerful symbols of resistance and survival. Each jewel represents a part of the legendary treasure of Lahore, considered one of the greatest treasures in the world, which was seized by the British during their conquest. By trading these precious pieces for a safe haven, Darshanesing not only ensured his survival but also defied the colonial authority that had tried to erase all traces of his royal heritage.
Did You Know?
Did you know that the story of the Darsanesing family is still little known, even among Reunion Islanders? Few local archives mention this crucial episode in the island's history. Moreover, the jewels of Lahore, although traded at the time, remain untraceable to this day, adding a mysterious and intriguing dimension to this family saga. The persistence of these stories, often passed down orally, shows the importance of collective memory in resisting historical erasure by colonial powers.
Reunion Today: Legacy and Continuity of the Anti-Colonial Struggle
Today, the story of Darshanesing and his family continues to resonate in Reunion Island, where debates on identity, culture, and colonial history remain relevant. Social and racial tensions, remnants of the colonial era, persist to some extent, and it is crucial to acknowledge past struggles to understand current challenges. The story of the Darsanesing family, as survivors of the royal family of Lahore, offers a unique perspective on these issues, reminding us of the importance of cultural resistance and preserving heritage against any form of oppression.
By revisiting these narratives, we not only honor the memory of our ancestors but also strengthen our commitment to historical justice and recognizing the cultural diversities that make up today's Reunion Island.
Conclusion:
The story of the Darsanesing family is a lesson in resilience and courage in the face of colonial oppression. It shows how, despite the empires' efforts to crush any resistance, tales of struggle and survival persist and continue to shape our understanding of the world. Through their story, we see the importance of keeping these anti-colonial narratives alive, not only to honor the past but also to inspire future generations to continue the fight for justice and equality. May this story serve as a powerful reminder that resistance takes many forms, and sometimes, the simplest acts of defiance are those that leave the most lasting imprint.

Sheikh Hasina Speaks Up on US Plot
By M. K. Bhadrakumar
Global Research, August 16, 2024
Indian Punchline 11 August 2024
The exclusive report in today’s Economic Times carrying Sheikh Hasina’s first remarks after her ouster from power will come as a slap on the face of the nincompoops in our country who are waxing eloquently about developments in that country as a stand-alone democracy moment in regional politics.
Hasina told ET,
“I resigned, so that I did not have to see the procession of dead bodies. They wanted to come to power over the dead bodies of students, but I did not allow it, I resigned from premiership. I could have remained in power if I had surrendered the sovereignty of Saint Martin Island and allowed America to hold sway over the Bay of Bengal. I beseech to the people of my land, ‘Please do not allow to be manipulated by radicals.’”
The ET report citing Awami League sources implied that the hatchet man of the colour revolution in Bangladesh is none other than Donald Lu, the incumbent Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian affairs who visited Dhaka in May.

This is credible enough. A background check on Lu’s string of postings gives away the story. This Chinese-American ‘diplomat’ served as political officer in Peshawar (1992 to 1994); special assistant to Ambassador Frank Wisner (whose family lineage as operatives of the Deep State is far too well-known to be explained) in Delhi (1996-1997); subsequently, as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Delhi from 1997-2000 (during which his portfolio included Kashmir and India-Pakistan relations), inheriting the job, curiously enough, from Robin Raphel, whose reputation as India’s bête noire is still living memory — CIA analyst, lobbyist, and ‘expert’ on Pakistan affairs.
Indeed, Lu visited Bangladesh in mid-May and met with senior government officials and civil society leaders. And shortly after his visit, the US announced sanctions against then Bangladesh army chief General Aziz Ahmed for what Washington termed his involvement in “significant corruption.”

After his Dhaka visit, Lu told Voice of America openly,
“Promoting democracy and human rights in Bangladesh remains a priority for us. We will continue to support the important work of civil society and journalists and to advocate for democratic processes and institutions in Bangladesh, as we do in countries around the world…
“We [US] were outspoken in our condemnation of the violence that marred the election cycle [in January] and we have urged the government of Bangladesh to credibly investigate incidents of violence and hold perpetrators accountable. We will continue to engage on these issues…”
Lu played a similar proactive role during his past assignment in Kyrgyzstan (2003-2006) which culminated a colour revolution. Lu specialised in fuelling and masterminding colour revolutions, which led to regime changes in Albania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan (ouster of Imran Khan).
Sheikh Hasina’s disclosure could not have come as surprise to the Indian intelligence. In the run-up to the elections in Bangladesh in January, Russian Foreign Ministry had openly alleged that the US diplomacy was changing tack and planning a series of events to destabilise the situation in Bangladesh in the post-election scenario.
