Merry is the black and white one, a barred rock. She is sassy and full of opinions and will peck calves when she’s upsetti. But she lays eggs once a day and will fly up on my shoulder for walks around the yard.
Sam and Frodo are the bearded gals (salmon faverolles) and they sound like clown car honking when they talk. They also lay little pink eggs!
I've been looking at different breeds to add to my flock in the future and a few breeds I like have feathered feet. Do feathered feet birds require a lot of extra care?? Are they worth the hassle??
Sketch of a really neat chicken I saw in a dream last night. Will ink and color later, because it was just so gosh darn pretty. And I CAN'T HAVE IT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T EXIST. 😭
Dream description under the cut.
I tend to have upsetting/unsettling dreams when I'm stressed out. (I call them stress dreams.) Not necessarily nightmares, but they're not fun. And they stress me out even more, as they target whatever I fear.
In this case, I had one last night where demons were trying to get my chickens. (My coops are old and starting to fall apart, but we're working on getting a brand new one with a HUGE run set up.) I didn't really see what kind of demons they were, because it was some random person telling me what was happening. And I had an image one flash before me for a brief second....for some reason it was Majima's Hannya tattoo...
Like ....what the hell does Majima want with my chickens? Does Majima want to be like Kiryu and have a chicken run a business as manager for him???? (Good luck. Maybe my Australorp or one of the black and gold/red ones will do it for mealworms, but the others will peck/rip you to shreds first as they came to me with an extreme dislike for humans.) Also, when I last looked up Majima's tattoo, the Hannya is supposed to bring good fortune. So having that around my coops should actually be a good sign. Not ominous.
I dunno. I have weird dreams, and sometimes they upset me. But this one got interesting because I went looking for coops and found neat looking chickens.
Faverolles honk, I shit you not. They're like a cross between an owl and a goose but no...they're chickens. And the way they run is so goofy. Plus check out that extra dinosaur toe!
happy TWELFTH birthday to my beautiful girl bonnet!
hatched 3/14/2011 in an incubator in my kitchen as part of a "trial run" batch of eggs from our own flock before buying some (the trial run hatch went much better ultimately). shes always been incredibly sweet and put up with a lot. her only crime through the years has been her steadfast determination to come onto the porch (which is forbidden, and she knows this).
the black hen in the picture is one of her (half) sisters, ebony, and was her bestie until her death. bonnet herself is half salmon faverolles and half a mixed silver duckwing rooster.
she has laid a couple eggs this spring and besides general old woman stiffness she seems to be well.
A fox killed 4 of our hens over the weekend and now I’m in WDW for a trip with my hubby and I’ve been so fixated on predator-proofing and other stuff I have to do when I get home that I can’t relax and keep worrying I’m going to give myself a panic attack.
BUT I ALSO DISCOVERED RELIEFBAND, AN ANTI-NAUSEA DEVICE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS, AND HUBBY SAID WE CAN BUY SALMON FAVEROLLE CHICKS THIS YEAR, AND I FOUND AN AMAZING SONG THAT’S GIVING ME ACTUAL FEELINGS FOR TOTK ZELINK SO I CAN FINALLY FINISH THAT PIECE I’M WORKING ON WHEN I GET HOME SO THAT’S ALL GOOD NEWS
