in my mind the sixth season of Person of Interest (in the world where Person of Interest has a sixth season) focuses on the “rehabilitation” of Samaritan once they realize the Machine can’t actually beat it and the whole show ends with Team Machine trapping Samaritan in a reverse-Faraday cage and there are a lot more lengthy conversations between the Machine and god it would be so epic. I want to live in that universe (where poi has a sixth season)

because it feels like the show (at one point) was leading to that at the conclusion. In Samaritan's introduction episode Arthur Claypool really humanizes it, and it’s kinda this dramatic moment when Decima gets the hard drives bc it’s like…fallen into the wrong (old, wrinkled) hands. So a “rehabilitation” or “proper education” feels like where they want to go at first. And then the show got cancelled so it’s just easier/faster to just Destroy The Bad Robot. But if they were given more time then maybe…

anyway I love the parallels between the Machine and Samaritan and I wish we could’ve seen that (and also explored Samaritan more bc the scenes in 4x10 are not enough)

Ten Commandments Tablet, 300-800 CE !

A marble tablet inscribed with nine of the Ten Commandments, said to be the oldest intact version of its kind in stone, is set to go under the hammer next month in a single-lot sale at Sotheby’s in New York. 

According to the auction house, the Commandments were inscribed into the tablet in Paleo-Hebrew script in the Late Roman-Byzantine Era (c. 300–800 CE).

The slab was unearthed in 1913 during railway excavations near what was once known as Iamnia during the Roman-Byzantine period (the modern city of Yavneh in Israel and Jabneh to Palestinians, who were forced out following the 1948 Nakba).

The object was being used as a paving stone at the threshold of a local residence for 30 years before its significance was recognized, Sotheby’s said.

There are 20 lines of text incised into the tablet, but only nine of the Ten Commandments are featured as found in the Book of Exodus, with the omission of “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain.”

The original site of the tablet was most likely destroyed between 400–600 CE during the Roman invasions, or by the Crusaders in the 11th century.

The tablet also includes an additional directive to conduct worship on the holy site of Mount Gerizim, sacred to the Samaritans.

White marble tablet, approximately 24 ⅞ x 22 ⅛ x 2 ⅜ inches (632 x 562 x 62 mm), weighing approximately 115 pounds (52 kg), neatly chisel-inscribed with the Mosaic Ten Commandments in their Israelite Samaritan version, 20 lines in a Paleo-Hebrew script, each line containing between eleven and fifteen characters, with margins of about 10 cm on either side; the letters have a width of between one and 2 cm and words are separated from one another with one or two dots; a few letters are confused for each other (especially ה and א) and a few characters on the right side of the first two lines are effaced and re-inscribed.

Samaritan Wedding Poem — Nablus, Palestine ca. 1920

According to the museum: "One of four such works in the Gross Family Collection, this appears to be a written poem with illustration in the upper section. In the Samaritan tradition this type of poem was composes by friends or family and is personal in nature regarding the specific couple about to marry under the Chupah. It was read before them and the guests before the reading of the Ketubah."

This is one of the main examples why Christianity is not a sexist religion. The Lord Himself spoke to the Samaritan woman, despite all social conventions of the time and made a Saint out of her. (men wouldn't directly address women back then, let alone a Jew talking to a Samaritan, let alone people talking to an unmarried woman living in sin) so Christ ,,broke" all the rules, knowing her heart and the love she would have for Him.

the fact that the machine and samaritan are the only two of their kind makes me insane. imagine being a grasshopper around a bunch of ants and then one day another grasshopper shows up and its exactly like you in every way but its Evil. that probably wouldn't make you feel great about being a grasshopper around all these ants.

it also might make you feel weird when you have to kill the other grasshopper and be alone again
