“You are my sweetest downfall // I loved you first, I loved you first […] Your hair was long when we first met”
“And the history books forgot about us // And the Bible didn't mention us // And the Bible didn't mention us, not even once”
“Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads”
“Samson came to my bed // Told me that my hair was red // Told me I was beautiful”

"Samson" is one of those songs I'll love forever even though I'm no longer the person I was when I first loved it and will never be that person again, and this version is beautiful

Been feeling emotionally weird and off for a week...not like depression hole but like my emotional skin is thinner and I'm closer to melancholy than usual, and it just occurred to me that it might be post-oopho hormonal stuff? Like when I first went on testosterone I felt extremely weepy and sentimental for no reason for two weeks. Which would be a relief, if it indicates that this will just stop again eventually...

List 10 songs with 10 names in the titles that I like, and then tag 10 people.
i was tagged by @nancywheeeler! i thought i would really struggle with this but it turns out there are a ton of songs i love with people's names in the titles, to the point that i had trouble paring the list down. i limited myself to one tom russell/eliza gilkyson song or else this post would just be an american history lesson lol
jackie and wilson - hozier
the lament of eustace scrubb - the oh hellos
augustine - vienna teng
samson - regina spektor
katrinah josephina - universal hall pass
casimir pulaski day - sufjan stevens
sylvia - the antlers
lily, rosemary, and the jack of hearts - originally by bob dylan, covered by tom russell, eliza gilkyson, and joe ely
christine - lucy dacus
gloria - laura branigan
i'm tagging @gerardnurse @interropunct @nangong-shunu @scareqrow @bardicspiration @charmingpplincardigans and whoever else wants to do this because i don't think i have 10 active mutuals nowadays lmao

Hi!! Since you don’t have Spotify, might I ask you a question anyway regarding music?
What song have you been unable to stop listening to lately and why? Which song is the one you keep putting on repeat and can’t get enough of right now?
i don't listen to that much music actually esp in the past few weeks 😭 but here's a few songs that i have apparently been listening to a lot whenever im listening to music
rockstar by nickelback
billionaire by travie mccoy
style by taylor swift
whatever judgements u make about me based on this are probably correct LMAO

the way ive chosen my names is so ridiculous actually. little gay mutineer rat from a one season tv show and then also some bible guy who got betrayed by his lover and i didnt even choose it because of the story but because of a song about it

thinking again about how they're renaming the whitecaps for what we can only assume are petty reasons. ? like what is the point. we LOVED that team and you killed them. and we don't even get to know who you're replacing them with.

Picked tonight's Monday Philm because it's a cozy fall indie romcom from the 90s and after the last several weeks, I need a cozy fall indie romcom from the 90s. So, Next Stop Wonderland (1998)!
Phil spoke a little bit about how his character Sean was based on several guys he knew in college (including one of his roommates), creating a very funny amalgamation of that type of guy we all know—the ironically self-absorbed and insufferably self-righteous activist. They've been out in big numbers, lately.
That's a hilarious performance, but it’s his last scene that really got me tonight—when he returns to Boston downtrodden and disillusioned, his hair cut like Samson, that teary wavering in his voice.
A few years before this film, in the mid-1990s, Phil moved from NYC to LA for work (and a girl). He apparently did not enjoy living in California (he probably sunburned too easily, I can relate). He took his role in Twister partly so he’d have the money to move back to New York, but in the meantime that meant a long, lonely stretch in the Midwest:
"It’s a wild experience to be in the middle of Oklahoma by yourself in an empty apartment, knowing you've got two months left. You start to feel aimless. It makes you yearn to get married and have kids. Actually, stability would be a good thing.”
I hadn’t thought of it before tonight’s rewatch, but you can see Phil drawing on his own loneliness to bring such a soft, heartbreaking touch to this otherwise douchey ex-boyfriend. Does the character even deserve it? Does the film? He brought so much empathy to all of his work, it’s still flooring after all this time. Why else do I suddenly tear up with sympathy and connection watching this sorta middling indie movie? He didn't have to, but he did.
I can't say how much I respect and appreciate and admire how Phil showed up—keeps showing up.
