one more step

One of the kpop artists I love is Sandeul. I had forgotten him for quite so long until this song randomly played in spotify during my long commute hours. This song reminded me of summer because I only got to binge-watched every summer vacations during my early high school years. So imagine that while everyone's out of town, I was in my room, plugging our DVD player and inserting a pirated copy of this drama burned in a cd I bought in the market. Anyways, this song is my go-to song nowadays when I'm really feeling the summer heat because Sandeul has this soothing voice that I'll never get enough of. Plus, the song itself has a good melody and message.

Sanduel (Junghwan) – Gift Wrapping

 You thought having Junghwan’s assistance would make the pile of gifts needing to be wrapped go by quickly. In the beginning, you had been full of smiles and he had hummed sweet Christmas carols as he stared over at you lovingly.

But it wasn’t long until you were scowling at him.

“You’re making a mess!”

He shook his head confidently. “I am not, it’s wrapped!”

“But the lines aren’t clean, Junghwan!”

“Do they need to be? The recipient is just going to rip it open in the end.”

You groaned. “We are not giving my sister a present wrapped like this!”

“Why not, can’t she be thankful for our efforts? At least we wrapped them ourselves!” he countered, scratching at his head as you snatched the gift out of his hand.

“Pass me the tape,” you grumbled and he did so, pouting.

“Did I do a really bad job?”

You couldn’t be mad at him looking at you like that. All the same, you nodded. “There’s more tape on here than there is wrapping paper.”

“New job?” he offered with a smile. “I’ll sing and make you as many hot chocolates as you want and you make sure our presents look good?”

“Deal.”

Sandeul visits Mun and Seokjinie on the Love Yourself World Tour.

*Sandeul's POV*

“Ahh, Mun-ah! There you are! I thought I was going to get lost in this stadium, it’s so huge!!” I said, seeing my friend Mun approach me as I wandered around the stadium. “Samdol! Why do I feel like you were trying to play hide and seek? As soon as I heard you were here, I called you, but you never answered your phone!” she said as we got closer. I pulled her into a hug as we greeted each other. “I thought it would be more fun this way,” I said with a laugh.

“Sounds like they finished their soundcheck?” I asked, hearing the generic background music playing from the main part of the stadium. “Yeah, they just finished like 15 minutes ago… the doors are opening soon, so this place will be swarming with ARMYs any minute,” she replied, beginning to lead the way backstage. “There are already a ton of fans lined up outside! I wasn’t sure if I would ever make it in!” I said with a laugh as I followed her.

Mun and I met almost a year ago at an awards show. At the time, she and Seokjin were just friends, but thanks to my help, the two finally admitted their obvious feelings for each other. Mun has become a close friend. She’s a genuine and loyal friend and she’s a perfect fit for Seokjin. She’s also a BANA and has supported B1A4 and our music in any way she can. BTS’s world tour perfectly lined up with our concerts in Japan, so I am happy to spend the evening with Mun and Seokjin.

“Seokjinie wanted to make sure he saw you before the concert, so we’ll go see him before finding our seats!” Mun said as we approached the backstage and was allowed in by the bodyguard. “I’m glad it worked out that I could come… The concert was all sold out, so I’m thankful we can attend it. Plus, it will give you a night off,” I said. “They always have a couple tickets reserved for guests of the members!” Mun replied with a smile. “I’m so glad you’re here too!! I don’t see many friends outside of the members and staff often enough,” she said, affectionately grabbing my arm.

“Ahhh, Sandeul-ah!” I heard the voice of Seokjin say as we rounded a corner and ran into him. “You made it! But what is this? Is it a date?” he asked teasingly as he eyed Mun’s arm still attached to mine. “Believe it or not, but I’ve never been on a date to a BTS concert, this is a first for me,” Mun teased back. “Seriously though, thank you for attending it with her! Mun-ah’s been working too hard and deserves to have a night just having fun from the perspective of an ARMY, not a staff,” Seokjin said to me.

"I’m so glad our schedules aligned so that we could! I feel like one date with Mun is sufficient payment for me getting you two together in the first place,” I said to Jin, which he smirked at. “Yahhh, you have a point, Sandeul. I know which section you’ll be in, so I’ll be watching out for you!” he replied. “Good luck, Seokjinie! I’ll see you later!” Mun said, giving him a peck on his cheek. “Good luck! I’m not kissing you,” I said with a laugh before Jin left us to get his hair and makeup done.

“Should we go get our seats?” I asked Mun when it was just the two of us again. “Let’s go to the breakroom first and get my stuff,” she said, heading towards one of the nearby rooms. She walked over to one corner and reached into a backpack, pulling out a small fanny pack and then an ARMY Bomb light stick. “I haven’t used this bad boy out in a while! Probably not since the WINGS World Tour!” she said, looking it over. “Ahh, that reminds me,” I said, slipping my backpack off my back. I reached in and pulled out two B1A4 light sticks. “We should totally use these tonight!” I said. “A B1A4 light stick at a BTS concert??” she asked with a laugh.

“You’re a BANA, aren’t you? And besides, it’ll help us stand out in the crowd,” I said, turning one of them on to reveal B1A4’s official light green color. “Why do I feel like that’s something Seokjinie would say?” Mun asked, taking the lit light stick from my hand. “This is such a cute light stick, though!!” she said, looking it over. “Oh! I have a great idea,” she said, reaching in her backpack and pulling out a journal. She pulled out a sheet of stickers that was shoved between two of the pages and pulled a sticker off the sheet, putting it on the bottom of the light stick.

“There we go,” she said, showing me the Jin sticker that she put on her light stick. “I put one sticker in my DSi but have been waiting for the perfect place to put my second one,” she explained before shoving her journal into her backpack and zipping it shut. “Ok, let’s get to our seats!” she said, excitedly. “Let’s goooo!” I said in a sing-song voice, offering her my arm as we skipped out of the room and through the hall to the main part of the stadium, feeling the adrenaline already.

We followed our tickets to the left of the stage in a smaller section with a good view and took our seats. “So how is your solo album coming along?” Mun asked me while we waited for the concert to start. “It’s finished, actually! My comeback will be in just over two months,” I told her. “Wait, really? I had no idea it was so soon!! How come you haven’t told me?” she asked. “Ahhh, you’re literally traveling the world right now! I didn’t want to bother you with a thing as small as my comeback,” I replied.

“Hey, your comeback is NOT a small thing!! I’m so excited to hear all your new music!” she said. Though I haven’t known her for long, Mun was always a big supporter of me and my music. She has said before that I’m her favorite vocalist… besides her boyfriend of course. Though I haven’t told her, nor do I know if I’ll tell her… she and Jin were a big inspiration to my new album. Seeing how much they love each other fueled my songwriting. It’s kind of embarrassing, so I haven’t mentioned that small detail to them.

“Mun-ah, you’re always so faithful in supporting me and my music,” I said to her, grinning from ear-to-ear. “Uh, yeah!! How many times do I have to tell you you’re my favorite singer?” she asked. “I’m such a big fan of you that I'm literally about to wave around your light stick at a BTS concert,” she added. I laughed and shook my head. “Hey! I gave you that light stick!! And you put a Jin sticker on it!” I whined, making Mun laugh. “I’m serious though! I seriously love your music… I will literally come to your comeback show even if I’m still on tour!” she said, making me smile.

“You’re too good, Mun,” I said simply as the lights dimmed and ARMYs began screaming. “It’s starting!!” Mun said, turning on her light stick. I followed suit, and our bright green lights filled up the dark space in front of us, so we were able to see each other. As the music started playing, the fanchants began, and we were soon fully immersed in the experience and thrill of the concert… a thrill that I rarely got from the perspective of the audience.

The concert went on, and Mun and I danced and sang along with the songs. It was during the performance of Jin’s solo song “Epiphany” that I noticed him looking in our direction. Though it’s a very serious and emotional song, when he spotted us at the end of the song, Mun and I made funny faces at him and shook our bright green light sticks so he would notice us. He didn’t break out in laughter like we were aiming for, but I did notice a small smirk come across his face, then he blew a kiss at our- er- at Mun’s direction.

“He did so good!!” Mun said, fanning herself off as if she had gotten warm from fangirling too hard. “He really did,” I agreed, impressed by how much his vocals have improved since the last time I heard him sing live. The rest of the concert was just as lively and fun, and as it came to a close, Mun and I did our best to navigate through the crowd to get to the backstage entrance we had used before the concert. We made it through the crowds and into the backstage area, where all of the members and staff were recovering from the high-energy concert.

“Seokjinie!” Mun called into the crowd of staff. “Mun-ah!!” he replied, easing his way through the crowd of staff and walking towards where we were. He put a sweaty arm around me and Mun each. “B1A4 light sticks? Really?” he asked me with a laugh. “Hey, you were able to spot us, weren’t you?” I asked defiantly. “The concert was really great!” I added. “Yahhh, thank you! It felt really good,” Seokjin replied as he released us from his sweaty grip.

“Okay. I need to go home,” you sighed, rolling onto your front to reach over the side of his bed for your underwear. He was pretty sure it was there anyway. He’d ripped it off in such a rush, he couldn’t quite remember. “I have to ace this test tomorrow.” 

“Sorry. Did I keep you?” Sat up now, you glanced over at him as you clipped your bra around your back, catching the smug smirk across his face, only to his surprise today you didn’t feel like chewing him out. Maybe it was those three orgasms he’d given you this afternoon... 

“Trust me. I’d rather spend my time doing this.” 

He watched you stand up, wrestling on your jeans, your boobs jiggling about. If he wasn’t so beat he was sure his dick would start stirring again. He was weak when it came to your body – just you in general actually. 

“Oh yeah?” He was only in his boxers, still laying on his bed.

He watched you shove your sneakers on and stood up, finding his sweatpants hanging off the bed where he’d yanked them off in a bid to get inside you as quick as possible. “Hey. I’ll walk you out.” 

You turned to look at him, your eyebrows slightly raised in shock. “You don’t have to.” 

Rolling his eyes, he chuckled. “Well, I’m not going to let you see yourself out, am I?” 

Your face lit up as you laughed along and he felt a twang inside his ribcage. He hoped he wasn’t getting heart burn… “Oh, gentleman. Bang me and then bid me goodnight at the doorstep.” 

He carried on chuckling, not bothering to put on a shirt as he walked towards the door.  “Don’t forget dine you too.” Cup ramen and sandwiches went down a treat. 

Walking out of his room and across the short distance of the hallway that opened up into the living room, you following closely behind, the colour from his face drained when he spotted his best friend stood awkwardly between the sofa and the chair. Oh, fuck.

“Hey,” Sanduel greeted, eyes wide when he saw you pop out from behind Seokjin’s back. He felt you freeze, and he couldn’t bring himself to look at you. He was a mass of panic and dread. You hadn’t wanted anyone to know, you’d been very clear on that, and now look… you’d been caught red handed.  

“Sandeul,” he said, voice painfully tight. 

“Hey,” his friend repeated. The air was suddenly stuffy. Seokjin had a horrible feeling the tips of his ears were red. 

“Hi.” He heard you say – to his surprise. 

To Sandeul’s surprise too. His eyes jumped to your figure and he forced himself to smile. “Hi.” 

Seokjin wanted the ground to swallow him whole everything was so awkward. He felt you turn to look at him. “I’m just, uh, gonna go.” 

He forced himself to look at you finally, nodding his head way too hastily. “Yeah, uh…” 

“See you,” you rushed, and off you went, nodding in Sandeul’s direction awkwardly as you passed him. 

“Yup. See you.” The click of the front door as you shut it echoed inside Seokjin’s head, and then his best friend was ogling him – wanting answers. 

“I’m very confused.” 

“Fuck sake,” Jin groaned, running his hand through his hair. This wasn’t good. 

“That wasn’t real,” Sandeul shook his head. “None of this is real.” 

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Suddenly, he was on the defensive. 

“Just how?” Sandeul was baffled. “I imagine she wasn’t in there to help you study considering you don’t share any classes together.” 

“No, you’re wrong. We had to study the anatomy of the naked body,” he smirked. 

“Fucking hell, dude,” Sandeul exclaimed. “She is so out of your league.”  

“Is not.” Now he was really offended. “We’re on par.”

“Keep telling yourself that, Jin.” 

“Hey man, don’t be a dick.” 

His best friend laughed. “I’m not. See?” He paused to clap. “I applaud you. But she did kinda run off when she saw me.” 

“She had to go,” Seokjin mumbled. “just don’t tell anyone about this, okay? We want to keep it quiet.” He sounded obviously desperate. 

“We?” 

“Yeah, we. It’s a thing we have going on.” He shrugged. “It’s going really well.” 

“Huh? You’re together?!” Sandeul’s volume emphasised his shock. 

“No!” How had he jumped to that conclusion? “We’re just hooking up. A lot.” 

Sandeul used his hands to mimic his brain exploding. “Mind. Blown.” 

“Remember, don’t tell anyone.” His eyes were wide. Maybe you wouldn’t mind if only Sandeul knew? The sex was so good, you couldn’t just end things because one person knew about it… Right? He was sure he could convince you it was all okay, because well, it was okay. 

“As if anyone would believe me anyway,” Sandeul laughed. “You’re secret’s safe with me. She seemed to be very into you, so who am I to judge?” 

Seokjin felt his cheeks heat up at his best friend’s insinuation, despite feeling smug about it… Yes, he’d heard you both have sex, which was sort of weird, but it was good to get confirmation that you were into him… 

Walking back into his room, he picked up his phone to call you immediately, only to see you’d already tried the same. 

1 Missed Call (6 minutes ago)

He sighed to himself and hit redial, psyching himself up. He couldn’t let you end things. You just about had enough time to say his name before he was rushing in. “Hey. Before you say anything, Sandeul is keeping it a secret, okay?”

There was silence on the other end. After a moment, you spoke. “Are you sure? How do you know?” You didn’t sound mad, just hesitant. 

“I asked him to.” 

He didn’t like the sound of your small, unsure sigh. “Seokjin, I don’t know about this –”

“He’s my best friend, I trust him.”

Another silence, plus a heavy breath. “Fine.” 

“Really?” He couldn’t hide the shock from his voice. 

“Yeah.” 

He was a little lost for words, not expecting that to have been so easy. He’d been so sure you’d want to stop hooking up… “So, we’re okay?”

“Yes, we’re okay,” you chuckled. “I don’t know him, but I know you and I trust you, so…” 

“You trust me?” Now he sounded smug. 

“Don’t make me regret it.” 

“I won’t.” It was time to behave again. 

He heard you groan. “How long do you think he was there for?” 

He chuckled lightly. “I don’t know but I’m pretty sure he heard us…”

“Noo,” you groaned louder. “I can’t come to your place again.” 

“Hold up, you have too.” He insisted with a whine. “I can’t go back to fucking in that car again. Please.”

CNU “My songs match B1A4 completely…I can’t imagine anyone else singing them” [ARTICLE TRANS]

Here’s the translation to the recent interview that CNU did. You can definitely tell that they thought long and hard about what direction they want B1A4 to go in as a “new group” and you can also kind of see how he’s very sort of future facing in regard to the group. But, I hope you enjoy reading!

The third person for this [I-Mind] is CNU (30, real name Shin Dongwoo) of boy group B1A4. CNU is the eldest and is in charge of vocals and dance in the 11-year group, B1A4. Additionally, he directs and makes music within the group as a ‘Composition Idol.’

 CNU started by writing lyrics for the title song of B1A4’s second mini album ‘Beautiful Target’ and then composed the ending track ‘Seoul’ on their second full length album ‘Who Am I.’ Since then, he’s made songs in various genres and has showcased a broad spectrum of music from the emotional ‘Drive,’ ‘Call Me’ that has a trendy beat, and even the intense ‘Nightmare.’

 CNU, who has been recognized for his composing ability, earnestly participated in the production of B1A4’s fourth full studio album ‘Origine’ that was released in October of last year. About the album CNU said, “I think that this album will influence the next 10 or 20 years and we tried to do music that utilized our strengths.” As a result, CNU’s name was listed in the credits of 8 of the 12 songs on the fourth full length album including the title song ‘Like A Movie.’ Thanks to that, the group’s identity was able to be in the song and even their musical maturity could be higher.

 What will the future musical direction of B1A4 be? CNU has said that he wanted B1A4 to not be confined within a mold in regard to music and that even if they receive negative comments, he wants to do various things sincerely saying that he wants to create “music that listeners can look forward to.” He was also determined when he said, “I will work harder with the sense of duty that even with music, it’s not just to let the public know but also so that it can be recorded on one page of K-Pop.”

It’s nice to meet you. Please introduce yourself. I’m also curious about your recent situation

I’m CNU, the eldest in B1A4 and I’m also in charge of the mother role. We made a comeback two months after I was discharged in August and we also had a concert in December. (Smile) I’m glad that we were able to do that as soon as I was discharged because it was my goal to release an album.

 If you were to introduce a representative song of B1A4 as a Composition Idol?

I think it would be ‘Like A Movie,’ which is the title song of our fourth full length album that we released last October. It’s the title track of an album that we released after such a long time and I’m fond of it because it seems to fit with our situation.

 I’m curious about your style of working

I tend to worry a lot when I wrote about songs so it’s a kind of progressive and aggressive style. It’s hard but it’s also fun to make songs.

How did you first start composing?

I believed that there were a lot of things boiling inside of me and at first, the way to express those things was through song and dance. Then while completely working on the stage, I gradually had the desire to write songs so I tried to write lyrics. The first time I wrote lyrics was for the title song ‘Beautiful Target’ on our second mini album. I wrote the chorus and my part for the song. That then became my momentum and I thought that I wanted to continue writing songs. So by the second or third year, I bought equipment with my own money and started composing.

 What was the first song you worked hard on?

That would be the song ‘Seoul’ that appeared as the last track on our second full length album ‘Who Am I.’ At that time I didn’t think like “I have to write a song!” It was a song that I was able to comfortably write without any expectations. It’s a side track that I wrote while thinking “Should I try to make one?” It’s a song that contains what I felt after coming to Seoul. Because all of the members are from the countryside, the city of Seoul has a different meaning to us. [t/n: in case anyone might not know, the countryside in this context is just referring to anyone that’s not from Seoul] The song details my honest feelings about how I felt when I came to Seoul to become a trainee and anyone that has lived in a foreign country will agree. It’s a place where I met my members when I had no one else to lean on and it’s a place where I was able to meet the fans after I debuted. It holds the message that in this cold city I only have the members and fans to lean on.

 Since you didn’t specialize in it, you must’ve struggled and had difficulties while working

[t/n: specialize as in I’m assuming be formally trained in composing]

In the beginning it was really frustrating but I fortunately have a lot of good people around me. Artist Jooyoung is my good friend from my hometown. When I was making ‘Seoul,’ I asked him a lot of questions about music. At that time he told me about what kind of equipment I should buy and he taught me a lot about how to do the beats. I learned while doing that. Jooyoung and I were in a band club together in high school and the two of us promised to do a collaboration if we both succeeded in Seoul. (Smile) Later, I worked together with Jooyoung and his close friend Gureum to create ‘Drunk on Music’ and ‘Drive’ amongst others.

You must’ve been really proud when your own self-made compositions were included in B1A4 albums

I really was. It was a time when I was into mannerisms. I had doubts about myself as a member of B1A4 wondering, “Am I doing well?” Although I was working hard since our debut, I wanted to be of more help to the team. I then did some composing and created some results. Thankfully the reactions of the members and the company was good and it was able to be put on an album. I really liked it back then.

 Did you want to formally study composing afterwards?

Personally, I don’t think that the concept of learning art is established. Rather than studying about it, I think that you should share and empathize. It’s about a person who has experienced many things letting the one who hasn’t know the way. I have seen how a lot of composers have written their songs, but eventually I did what it was that I wanted to do. Their way isn’t mine. You can receive some sort of influence, but you have to create the result in your own style. When people listen to the songs that I’ve written so far, they say “This is CNU’s style.” I tried to make my own path very clear.

When listening to the songs you made such as ‘Seoul,’ ‘Drive,’ ‘Nightmare,’ and ‘Sparkling,’ the genres and colors are all different. I can feel that you have a desire to create a variety of music

I didn’t intentionally attempt multiple genres, but I just made the music that I like and it could have been felt as being varied. Personally, ‘Nightmare,’ that was on our third full length album ‘Good Timing’ was a challenge for me as well. Who would’ve thought that B1A4 would do music that had a reggae beat? It was a style that I definitely wanted to try at least once and thankfully everyone liked it after I made it. I do have a greed and desire to broaden the spectrum with a variety of music.

What would you say is the biggest feature or differentiated color of music that you’ve made?

That it seems like music that has been specially made for B1A4. That’s also the part that I consider the most important when writing a song. I always worry about how I should incorporate the member’s voices into a song. I can’t imagine other people singing it because it completely matches with our tone. That’s why I don’t even think about giving songs to others.

Up until now you’ve only participated in the side tracks, but starting from your fourth full length album ‘Origine,’ you’ve become more proactive in creating songs. You participated in 8 of the songs and even made the title song therefore I’m curious about the process

It’s an album that took 3 years, from before I went to the army until it got released. The original goal was to announce it before my enlistment, but it took a long time because I went earlier than expected. I prepared the album all the way until I went to the army. I thought about it every day. When I was on vacation I wrote songs in the studio with a friend named Wooram and then I’d return and when I was on vacation again, I’d record. That’s the way I worked on it. I even asked the members to write songs and participate in creating the album. Personally, it was important because I thought about the album as something that will influence the next 10, 20 years of B1A4 so I thought about the direction. After thinking about it, we tried various things by using our strength as an ever-changing group. Even while feeling the weight of the year, we made a lot of effort for different music that will be further anticipated in the future. [t/n: I’m pretty sure the year that they’re talking about is the year that they became 3]

 In the process of creating the album, was there no difference in opinion from Sandeul or Gongchan?

It matched well with the members. Although there were times when our opinions were slightly different, our desired directions and flows were the same. And because the company also agreed with our opinions, we were able to work while receiving more strength.

Out of the many songs, is there a reason why the title should have been ‘Like A Movie?’

Since it had been a while, I thought about songs that had our existing color and ones that had a different color and I felt like ‘Like A Movie’ seemed like the best in terms of B1A4’s new direction. Honestly, ‘Like A Movie’ is a dynamically composed song that has a melody line and no rap. Not having a rap is a big change in regard to idol music. Because we can’t help but think about that year, there is a sense of that weight but since we wanted to express B1A4’s unique charm, we made a new attempt. I don’t have any regrets because we gave forth all of our efforts. (Smile)

 What is the most memorable compliment you have ever received for your songs?

In my final months of the military, I completed ‘Like A Movie’ and played it for the members. After I had come back, I had asked the president, executives, and successors to take a listen to it. When the song was over, all of them said that it was awesome. The successors may not be very objective (Smile) but I still can’t forget that expression. And I asked for a professional evaluation from the military band and was proud when they said that the rhythm and melody line was good. Even the boss praised me saying that it was really good and I gained strength from that.

What would be the song that became a turning point for Composition Idol CNU?

It would be the fan song ‘A Day of Love’ that I made before I enlisted. It contains the message that I want to convey to the fans without being convoluted. Just like how BANA always think about B1A4, we also expressed our feelings of always thinking about the fans when we’re eating, when the wind blows, and in every moment of our daily lives. It’s a song that was made with honesty.

 Out of all of the songs you’ve worked on, what is the song that you like the most?

The song that I’m most fond of always changes but right now it’s one of Sandeul’s solo songs, ‘Oblique Line.’ It’s a song that contains the feelings that I had during various changes. I had written it before joining the military and I had given it to him because when he listened to it, he said he really liked it and wanted it.

With the fourth full length album you decided to do music that was different from the usual music B1A4 released thus far. What kind of songs do you want to do in the future?

I hope that B1A4 is a group that doesn’t become confined to a mold. It’s my goal to make music that is unpredictable and causes future anticipation of “What kind of songs will they release?” I want to try an unlimited amount of various things and even if there is a negative reaction and we get scolded [t/n: scolded from the public], I have a big desire to try just that.

 Do you have an artist that you wish to collaborate with?

There is an artist that I really wanted to collaborate with, but we collaborated on our fourth full length album. That would be Bibi who participated in my solo song ‘Zero Gravity.’ When I was in the military, I listened to their music and wanted to work with them so I asked for her to feature in my solo song and thankfully that worked out. When we went to record, I’m very thankful that Tiger JK-sunbae and Biji-sunbae gave all sorts of advice and I fell for both of them. Besides for BiBi, if there’s an opportunity, I’d like to collaborate with my role model, Taeyang-sunbae.

There’s not many Composition Idols in today’s idols. Is there someone’s songs that you want to compliment?

It would be ONF’s MK. When MK makes a song, he works really hard on it. Before, when ONF received a vacation, MK didn’t go and rest, but he stayed at the company to work. When I saw that, I felt his passion.

 Please express your determination for future activities as a singer and composer

When I first said that I wanted to become a singer it was because I was simply thought that singing and dancing on stage was fascinating and cool therefore I set my mind on only becoming that. However, if you now ask me about what energizes me to make music, the answer would be BANA. Because the fans are there, I’m motivated and receive strength when I’m working or try to make music. I’m very thankful for that. I also try to be careful as I think that the activities that we do can have an affect on many people. I will work harder with the sense of duty that even with music, it’s not just to let the public know but also so that it can be recorded on one page of K-Pop.

SOLAR

Even with her busy schedule, Solar was always there. Birthdays, promotions, off days, holidays. She even sent you a video of her singing “congratulations~” when you told her you got the last cinnamon bun from your favourite bakery. 

But there was nothing special about today. 

Traffic was horrendous (as usual), work was work, and the weather was so absurdly bland with no rain or shine that you wondered if whatever god existed took the day off.

Probably, you think. 

So it definitely surprised you to see Solar at your work parking lot, stood by your now candle-lit car with a mixed bouquet of your favourite flowers. 

“What are you doing here?” You fail to hide your shy grin.

“I’m going on tour so I won’t see you for a while. But before I go, there’s something I want to tell you. Um ... here,” she hands you the flowers. 

You knit your brows. “Flowers? Is everything alright? No one died, right?” 

“No, no, it’s not like that,” she laughs. 

“Okay, so what is it?” 

Pulling out her cellphone, her thumbs stumble through her phone. The sweet piano of Ra. D’s “I’m in love” twinkle through the quiet, golden honey spilling into your ears as her sweetness took you over. Drew you into her realm as the parking lot lights illuminated her pretty face.   

“I’m in love with you, Y/N.” 

You were so wrong. 

There was something special about today. 

MOONBYUL

You didn’t think she was serious. 

“How drunk are you?” you laugh, inspecting her empty shot glass. 

The two of you were sat on the rug of your apartment, sharing a blanket as you two talked, paying no mind to the movie on your flat screen. 

“Not that drunk,” she grins. “I want to remember when you finally give in to me.”

She slides an arm around your shoulder, leaning soft lips close to your cheeks in a breathy, barely-there kiss. Her free hand slips into yours, delving between empty spaces, trickling intricate rivers up your forearm. 

“Ugh, I need another shot to handle you tonight.” You whine, reeling away from her touch. 

You pour yourself another shot of green apple soju. She was always extra touchy after a few drinks, which was surprising (and a little impressive) considering the girl never kept her hands to herself on the regular. 

“I’m not kidding. I like you, Y/N,” you feel her grin against your skin as she nuzzles her nose into your neckline.

And you roll your eyes, “I swear to god, Byul--” 

“I’m serious,” a solemn shift darkens her gaze as she tilts your chin to her, her warm breath skimming over your lips. 

You’ve never been so aware of your breathing. Chest heaving. Heart beating. You swallowed, nervous. 

“Byul ...” 

She whispers again. “I’m serious.” 

WHEEIN

“You okay?” you laugh.  

Ten minutes earlier, Wheein pranced around the dance room like a hyperactive shiba inu, wiggling her butt to a random kpop playlist and cackling her ahjumma laugh. 

But now, Wheein is splayed across the dance room floor, depleted of all her energy as she stares into the distance between her and the ceiling. You lay next to her. 

“Yeah, I’m okay” she smiles faintly. Pensive. 

Now you’re concerned. You’re not used to this tepid pup. 

“You sure?” you ask.  

“Mhm.”

You take a long look at her before turning to the ceiling. You breathe, “Okay.” 

You try not to worry but it’s hard. Not only is this a drastic shift from super party fun times to a stiff contemplative quiet, but you know Wheein. You know how easy it is for her to get caught up in her own thoughts. 

You look to her when she cleared her throat, watching her irises shift in thought. It didn’t occur to you until now how close you were. So close you could feel her hand brushing against yours. Hear her breath as her chest heaves anxiously before she turns to you, twinkling eyes searching yours. 

The stiffness settles into a sort of peacefulness. Untroubled. 

Her fingers fidget, eventually finding courage as her cold hands sweeps across yours, finding comfort in your warm touch. 

She whispers, scared. 

“I think I like you.” 

HWASA

“You were so weird today,” you chuckle, walking into Hwasa’s apartment, hanging your winter coat in the foyer closet. 

“No, I wasn’t,” she says, defensive. 

“No, you were weird.” 

You recall the past couple of hours at Byul’s birthday party where Hwasa took you as her plus one. You’re not really the party type, but you knew how to mingle when need-be. So as you fluttered between people—Solar, Wheein, Sandeul, Seulgi, Hani, etc., Hwasa slowly got more ... clingy. 

. . . 

Handsy? 

The later the night got, the more she leeched onto you. Linking arms and lazily tangled limbs on the couch slowly graduated into hand holding, digging her hands into your sweater pocket, brushing her lips against your cheek. Your neck. Hands running up your thigh. Even a butt smack in front of BTS’s Jin. 

You blink away the flashbacks, a little shellshocked. “Definitely ... weird.”  

She shrugs. “It’s not my fault they can’t tell you’re mine.” 

Her words shoot ice through your veins, your body freezing at her words. You wonder if you heard her correctly.

“Um, what?” 

She looks at you. Sauntering closer as her eyes trap you, seductive. Predatory. 

Her hands drift up, fiddling with your collar as you gulp. 

She whispers with her signature huskiness. 

“You. Are. Mine.”

Not to be me, but I’m so effin’ proud of Seungmin.

I’ve been obsessed with his cover of Sandeul’s song and it hit me how hard he has worked for this past year.

Going from lead vocalist to main vocalist like that can not be easy I imagine. As a main vocalist you need both the power and control in your voice to claim that position. There is just something main vocalists have that stand out in the groups. (I’m thinking of ATEEZ Jongho, Seventeens DK/Seungkwan, Monsta X Kihyun, etc) and Seungmin has worked unbelievably hard to achieve that uniqueness. Of course he was always talented, but I just notice how powerful his vocals have become this past year and how he never fails to stand out now. He really sounds like a main vocalist.

Honestly he becoming the Main vocalist for Stray Kids is possibly the best thing that has happened to them.

I could keep going on about how amazing and talented he is but y’all don’t need to see that.

hi! do you know what's going on with rbwm? i saw wm had to let go of a lot of their trainees who had been with them for years. does this mean they will only have omg and possibly shinchan promoting until onf gets back? are any of the og wm board left? i saw a pretty recent video where onf referred to wonmin as 대표님 but idk. this acquisition feels so messy i hope wm's remaining artists and trainees get the promotion they deserve. will omg ot7 even renew their contracts next year? it sucks

unfortunately, I don't think any of us know at this point until some actual, official statements are released.

I've been (trying, lmao) to do this thing where I don't go off on these wild ass rants like I used to when there isn't anything official to go by, but yeah... things seem to have been getting a bit messy the last month or two now.

The WM girl trainees seem to all be gone, minus Chaeyeon. And possibly the boys? Def not the best sign. The only statement I've seen that seems to hold up as possibly factual is because of the contract terms between RBW and WM following the 70% acquisition... no new artists deals can be made following three years after the acquisition. So they just decided to let 95% of them go. Not a smart move on their part. Not to mention optically it just looks really, really bad.

So yeah, as far as the WM Ent. subsidiary is concerned, they only have OMG, B1A4 (with Sandeul obviously not active until he comes back) and ONF (but again, they'll all be gone in a matter of weeks.... which makes me speculate if they knew shit was going down behind the scenes, hence them wanting to just enlist now vs. sticking around for this mess).

As for the main guys from WM Ent., (Wonmin as their old CEO, Jimni as their main Director, etc.) kinda tough to say. Paperwork was released a few weeks ago that no longer listed any of these guys as high ups. I definitely found it odd, though it seemed the focus at that time was more on the fact that Gongchan was listed as 'discharged' from military service. But the fact that none of the WM Ent. managers/higher ups were on the publically released papers didn't sit right with me. Who knows, maybe Wonmin is still partially active in some aspects, and either way I'm sure the ONF members would just refer to him as that out of closeness and respect, whether he was or wasn't.

AND lastly OMG... as far as I have heard, there is still speculation of Mimi and Jiho not having renewed their contracts. Lord knows honestly it's all a mess and I'm just trying not to get too upset over it in my old age lmaoo. It's been so great following them since debut and seeing them overcome and succeed... I just wish the best for them.

I was never happy about RBW acquiring most of WM. It never sat right with me, nor did it even make sense from a financial standpoint. At this point all we can do is wait for more information to be officially addressed, and hope that all of this gets sorted out somehow. Though unfortunately for the trainees, it's too late for them. I can't imagine how they feel, all that time at WM now wasted. I really feel for them. 😔

Perhaps right now I understand a little bit of why Sandeul shed tears whilst listening to CBR Cleopatra back then. Recognising a voice that has always been the source of inspiration, courage, and comfort; that alone is able to make your heart trembles with excitement, longing, and all the mixed up feelings. As I was listening to Fireplace Cat singing for the first time, unknowingly my eyes swelled up with tears as well. Ah~ this is how it feels i guess; and there's no way I wouldn't be able to tell who the owner of that oh-so majestic voice.

After the first week, not to exaggerate it [lmao] but really, I repeatedly came back [and looked forward] to his performances every single day, week after week. And as a fan of the show myself, I can safely say that his were some of the best, if not, the most beautiful and soothing performances in the history of Mask Singer; and he is #mine. Can you imagine how proud I am? *seobs* ;;

We all have been in the disorderly state since the beginning of last year but for months my heart continually swells with pride and delightment; that the dimming sun seems brighter and everything is little more tolerable nowadays, all thanks to him. Now it's already widely known, not only a good singer, but also the healing power and positive energy he delivered through his choice of songs in Mask Singer. So yeah, that's our small light bulb Yang Yoseob, everyone. He has been my comfort for years, and now he has become comfort for many others as well for sure. Please remember his name. 💛

Ps. [It sounds ridiculous but I actually cried in his first as well as last performance; don't even talk about in-betweens. ><]; [I think I shared at least 10 percent of his viewers in Youtube lol; of how many times I watched it; and the number will only exponentially goes up even after~].
