Hi Neil! I have a sandman related question.

Will we get to see some of Deliriums more iconically unhinged looks in sandman season 2? So far from the leaked bts photos that I’ve been able to find, mainly the photos in the graveyard with Tom wearing the scarf and Del is wearing a blue suit (which totally could just be Indya Moores street clothes) just seem rather reserved.

Super excited for season 2 and have no doubt that it will be incredible and equally as visually stunning as the first one!

Controversial opinion, but I’m fine with The Sandman being 2 seasons if the second season is a Greatest Hits of Sandman arcs like Hell, Brief Lives, and Kindly Ones.

Look, comic to screen translation is not as direct as it seems. Comics look like film storyboards but they’re not film storyboards. The timing alone of a comic vs screen adaptation is way off, things that feel long in a comic are short on screen.

If the showrunners realized that “long” Sandman arcs only ran about an hour long when put on screen, unless you started padding the story, then I’m all for single episodes embodying entire arcs. I prefer a well-done, tight story to dragging it out.

And if we’re seeing BTS leaks of scenes from Brief Lives and Kindly Ones already, there’s very little left to explore. I don’t want an S3 with all the good stuff done already. Indeed, it’s my belief that most of the single issues and even some arcs that people lament missing could be done very well with an anthology episode of short animated stories (no more than 10 min) as seen with the Dream of 1,000 Cats episode.

Basically, I’d rather see the show knock it out of the park with a tightly plotted S2 that tightens up the story and focuses on Dream’s arc, rather than see a spaced out but faithful Sandman comic adaptation that puts us at risk of never seeing the climax of his arc like in Kindly Ones because we have to do the whole stupid fan fight for a third season because guys as a fan I’m so fucking sick of needing to fight for one more season just to see the end of the story

Its gonna drive me crazy - that they are filming Song Of Orpheus now, before Season of Mists and Game of You.

I can't fathom how they can possible tell the story of Brief Lives before at LEAST SoM, so I am super curious how they are changing this order around and WHY.

Because I think the main thing it indicates is that the show wants to keep the focus on Dream instead of on other characters.

I have to wonder if they want to simply tell the story of Dream and Calliope, and Orpheus, before they delve into Dream and Nada (which imo will be very difficult to adapt and keep any sympathy with their lead character). That rather than keeping the order strictly as per the comics, they will instead spread out the various histories of Dream's long life leading us to the modern day so we can see just how much he has changed. Because I just can't see Brief Lives being tackled in season 2. I just cant. Its too much of an emotional climax. We need the other stories to provide build up.

I can see some sense in wanting to keep a coherent story focused on the lead character - the comics take forever for us to learn anything about Morpheus beyond "spooky goth dream boi" so im glad that we will go straight into his histories and perhaps learn a bit earlier why he is Like That.

But who knows! The costume slaps, he looks amazing in his flowy ancient robes and deep V neck, and for the time being I'll just enjoy amy new pics of Tom in his awesome Dream outfits (and hope that they get sluttier and weirder as time goes on)

Good Omens, staying skeptical, and the mystery and the lie at the heart of Gravity Falls

I recently came across this post by @apathetic-revenant, which goes into extensive detail about a whole secret meta lie generated by Alex Hirsch, creator and head writer of Gravity Falls, midway through the show.

It went like this: the show was very focused on mysteries, codes, ciphers, etc, and early on a character discovered a mysterious journal with an unknown author, and this drove the plot. There were clues placed in the show so that people could solve the journal author's identity, or more probably so that it would all make sense in hindsight after the big reveal. However, the show ended up with a larger-than-expected fandom who started organizing online in a way the creators hadn't expected or planned for, and they were worried everyone would collectively solve the mystery too easily, too soon, and the suspense and appeal of the story gradually unfolding would be lost.

So they took a fake BTS photo that appeared to reveal the journal's author and "leaked" it online. To give it credibility, the show's creator posted "Fuming right now" and then deleted the post soon after, once they were certain it had been seen and screenshots taken. The Gravity Falls fandom then stopped trying to solve the mystery, as they believed the answer had already been revealed. It was a solution "targeted toward delaying that group problem-solving, without actually affecting the experience of any individual person watching the show."

Ok, Good Omens fandom. Are we Gravity Falls all over again? Are we also experiencing meta lies?

Is it possible that Amazon's marketing department has just released a new promotional video about Aziraphale & Crowley's "timeline of interconnectedness" (discussions here and here ) where they honestly:

got several of those timeline dates wrong, including labeling the entirety of seasons 1 and 2 as belonging to the same year?

mixed all the season 1 and 2 clips together so they're completely interconnected and out of the order they were presented to us so far?

didn't consult with Neil Gaiman for even a moment to be sure they had their facts straight? (Or literally anyone else who's spent years working on it? Or even someone who has just watched it once while paying attention?)

didn't understand the way most series tell a story by moving through time in a realistic linear fashion?

When Neil said today that "time is fine" in response to questions about the timeline of interconnectedness video, was he trying to misdirect the fandom away from the mystery that's clearly hidden throughout both seasons (and especially season 2)?

The Good Place seems suddenly more relevant than I'd imagined:

So here's my plea to whichever part of the fandom might read this: Stay Skeptical. It's wonderful to talk to Neil about his characters, the worlds he's created, his writing process, his views on world events, his sense of humor, his kindness, his compassion and empathy, and his good advice & encouragement for the entire range of the human experience. I respect him very much, and I'm thrilled he's here on social media talking to all of us. (Except he doesn't have social media, obviously. He's like Schrödinger's Social Media Neil-cat.)

I'm looking forward to all the surprises I'm certain are in store for us (and Aziraphale and Crowley) in Good Omens season 3. I trust Neil (and Terry!) to deliver our beloved characters to a very satisfying ending. But I don't trust Neil to honestly answer all of our questions on social media - and neither should you.

Especially not when he's already blamed obvious season 2 changes to the Bentley on the "lighting" (as just one example).

What are we thinking about... one of my Morpheus x reader requests next, because the new BTS video came out? (I've already decided which of them it will be) It's been over a year (June 2023) since I last wrote for him so... it might be its time. Especially when the show will most likely get axed after this season.

Also a small note for those who don't know, I will likely have a The Sandman spree for a few weeks after S2 comes out because there will be a large demand for it then and I need to catch that train so that will be a temporary exception to my "old ones are favoured"-rule, as it always is with new/returning shows I get into.

And... after that Morpheus piece, I could take a leap of faith and go forward with my idea for part 2 of Barely Dried (Kaz x reader)? Even when I'm a little afraid I get hate for it again because I guess I'm a bit rusty? I kinda want to blame Freddy for it because he was so sweet and kind and lovely and sgbfksgeyfj he's nothing like Kaz which was a BIG brainfuck somehow gaaaahh, and I think meeting him messed up my grooves how to write Kaz because he's SUCH a big contrast to Freddy. I mean I knew he's nothing like Kaz but still! It's completely different to see him at interviews being a sweetie vs having him right in front of me and being a sweetie-

But anywayyy, I know those two are the "biggest" among my characters and "the most loved" who people want to see fics for, and I haven't been writing for them nearly as much as I'd like to! I really would like to get into publishing twice a week again so all my characters would get equal attention and I wouldn't constantly slip into same ones because that will lead to me getting bored to write for those characters.

But I want to treat y'all for being patient, I haven't gotten any entitled/hate asks, messages or replies for two whole weeks! No one has even tried to lecture me about how I should use my queue to have consistent posting because my wait times are frustrating. Which has been really nice and even motivates me to write again because it's been a long while since last time I didn't get one single that kind of ask/message/reply on a post waiting for me when I woke up.

After those two, I'm planning to work on some pieces for characters who are from fandoms I last wrote for very long time ago + one new one who I don't have a single fic for yet!
