has anyone noticed that over time, as Anakin losses limbs, he becomes more and more like his future Sith self?
In Attack of the Clones, he massacres an entire Tuskan village on shear, unaltered anger.
And later in that same movie, he gets an arm sliced off and replaced with a cybernetic.
And do I really have to explain Revenge of the Sith?
He turns to the literal darkside and gets the other three limbs cut off for it and physically becomes Darth Vader.

The Book Of Boba Fett: The Train
Adding more to the greyscale concept art collection from the end credit scenes from The Book Of Boba Fett, I continued with the Tusken Raiders on the train. Although the original image had more of the train and more raiders, it was the look of the lead one that caught my eye so I just focused on that. Another fun one to do and it will look great as a poster for the study wall :)

❝ They were definitely here. ❞ It looked like the Sandpeople had been camped out in this specific area for a brief amount of time; enough time to build a fire at night but clearly not a place that they were spending for an extended period of time. Belongings had been left behind which wasn't a good sign of a species that knew how to cover their tracks. She pointed in one direction, commenting, ❝ There's one of their staffs. What do you think happened? ❞ Her mind was already beginning to tink that they had to move quickly. Too many tracks for the smuggler to deduce what was theirs or someone else's that had scared them off.

As Anakin speeds away, his eyes determined and at the same type confident, confident he will find his mother. No other thought in his mind, he maneuvers the speeder to make sure he can go in every direction of potential civilization.
The first three times, he was informed of nothing, but with his Jedi instincts and his overconfidence, Anakin was sure he would eventually find someone with sufficient information to find the Sandpeople. At sunset, Anakin got his wish, the hardwork and endless hours of asking and demanding answers, he finally got his questions answered.
Parking his speeder behind a couple of sand mounds, Anakin hopped out and perched himself on the highest mound he could find, looking at the unaware and oblivious people below him; working to keep the fire going and heading into their respective homes. Anakin swiftly skulked into the compact village, his hand on his lightsaber at his hip just for added measure, he looked into the modest-sized windows, checking a majority of them without getting caught, and without sight of his mother.
Until he reached the very last house; no different in appearance to the rest of the bundle, but nevertheless, lightened by the warm glow of the raging but slowly dying fire. Anakin's eyes darted around to check the scenery; empty. But he caught glimpse of someone, although the moved the slightest of inches, he saw them, and to his great surprise, it was his poor mother. Anakin ignited his lightsaber and used it to create a hole in the side of the house and step in.
Hurrying over, Anakin's hands went to check his mother for vital signs: her pulse was detectable, but faintly. Shmi, strapped to a board, wearing nothing but rags, bound and gagged, her fearful eyes swept to Anakin's, fear meeting anger, the two feelings colliding and creating fierce anger. Anakin's fingers worked at her gag, tossing it to the side as Shmi stared at him. When Anakin cut the ropes that bounded his mother to the wall. Shmi fell back, having no apparent balance or strength to fight the fatigue plaguing her mind, Anakin swiftly caught her, sinking to his knees with his mother cradled closely in his embrace.
From the ropes around her wrists and ankles for God knows how long, it resulted in horrible, bloody abrasions that rubbed deep into Shmi's skin. "Mom.." Anakin whispered, his voice cracking. Shmi's hand, weak and battered, caressed softly over Anakin's cheek, before cupping it. "Ani..." She whispered back, the voice Anakin once knew had grown hoarse and so deep into the depths of abuse that it sounded so unlike the warm, loving and tender voice of his mother.
"Mom, why.... why did they do this to you? Why?" Anakin felt the tears pricking in his eyes, but he did not resist, the sight of someone you know only ever loved, in your arms, withered thin and reduced to nothing, the sight makes you lose all sense of self and collapse into a mess of a person. "Ani, I-I....I...I.." Shmi's voice grew more and more faint, her hand still resting on her son's cheek, but her sense of strength wearing more and more frail and feeble. "I l-love you." She spoke as soft as the breeze of summer, her words stabbing through Anakin's heart like ice. He watched in remorse, pain and despair as the life in his mother's eyes faded, and along with that, her body went stiff.
Waiting for Anakin was normally so difficult, but this time, it seemed impossible. Your mind stormed with questions, your stomach burned with anticipation, but the feelings in you ached for the sight of him, to appease your eyes, but you had been waiting all night for him, after he left. Throughout the steadily decrease in temperature and the many warning of Cliegg's that there are predators out at night, scavenging for food, you remained seated on the sand. Some might say it was stubbornness and some might say it was a pathetic attempt to show how much you were remorseful for the argument the two of you shared which ultimately lead to his one-man departure.
However, time decelerated for you at the familiar and welcoming sight of Anakin's speeder, as you stand up and gaze at it, waiting and hoping to see Anakin hop out with his mother, you see Anakin step out, and then move to the passenger side and carry a motionless, wrapped in cloth body.
The look he gave you when he passed you and when Cliegg and Aika stepped outside, was one of pure guilt and anguish so deep, it made tears flood into your eyes. Anakin laid Shmi down, and went inside, grabbed a shovel, came back out and began digging. Cliegg's eyes were wide, but more than surprise or shock, it reflected a look of absolute crest-fallenness. You cautiously approach Anakin, but then stop yourself, as he had so quickly dug the grave and tenderly placed Shmi's body into the resting place, as a mother would carry a child to their crib.
As soon as he had covered the grave with sand, he took a moment to just stand there, to process the pain he felt and then he swept passed you, his eyes a noticeable hollow. "Anakin?" You breath out as you find him in his old bedroom, rebuilding a few random parts with intense but underlying blankness in his eyes. "She's gone." He croaked, the tone of his voice as soft as the wind but as raging as the sea. "She's gone and I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't... get here sooner, and if I did? She would be here with me and I wouldn't have to feel like this. Feel so useless. Hollow, empty. It fucking hurts, Y\N." You strided over to him, wrapping your arms securely around his waist while leaning your head into his back. "I know, Anakin. I'm so sorry." He sniffles. "I should've been there! I should've.... I should've.." He broke down, sinking to his knees again with you behind him, you crawled to his face and pulled him into a firm, tight embrace.
The sounds of his loud sobs and wailing rung throughout the house, aiding Cliegg in his quiet remorse, but working against Aika's and your separate attempts at solicicing the two men. Anakin's arms stay motionless at his sides, but his he buries his head into your shoulder, muffling his desolate and dismal cries ever so slightly.

I think Kaladin Stormblessed has every right to bitchslap Anakin Skywalker.
Anakin did a lot of terrible stuff completely independently and of his own free will; among others, he murdered an entire family of sandpeople. Even if he was provoked, he attacked people who wouldn't have been involved and that's messed up (and the fact that they kidnapped and tortured Shmi is both contrived and really racist on Lucas' part--it's way too similar to propaganda that was used against Native Americans.) You could argue Palpatine was manipulating Anakin, but ultimately he's responsible for his own actions. He had maybe two nightmares about Padme dying and then turned evil with absolutely zero evidence Palpatine could actually help Padme. And then he slaughtered pretty much the only family he had left (the Jedi were a family!)
Meanwhile Kaladin was being actively tortured every night for weeks, had multiple people he had sworn to protect even though personally he disliked them murdered in front of him just to get to him, or to try to push him toward being a hypocrite, and then had one of his closest friends murdered. And he didn't go on a wilful killing spree, he killed one person who was actually a threat.
Kaladin deserves to tell Anakin that Anakin has the moral backbone of a limp piece of rhubarb.

Concept art by Doug Chiang of a Kraft Dragon collapsing on Tatooine, while Sandpeople look on, next to a bantha. Image from The Mandalorian, Season 2, Episode 1, The Marshal. Calendar by DateWorks.
NOTE This story was originally published on August 14, 2023. I'm still on vacation and thought folks might like to read this one again.
Grogu almost missed Cobb Vanth. He was a person, one of the few humans, other than Peli Motto, who had noticed Grogu’s relationship with the Mandalorian right away. Grogu almost missed him, because despite Cobb’s fancy words, he didn’t try to stop the bounty hunter from risking his life when they were helping the Tuskens and the Mos Pelgo town folk with the tiny little problem of a rampaging Krayt dragon.
After all, how much of the work was the Mandalorian supposed to do? All of it? Sure the Sandpeople and the town folk had come out in numbers to try to solve the problem they both experienced in the worst way, but the Marshal had just let Din walk right into the Krayt dragon’s lair without so much as a ‘Hey, what about the kid?’, passing his lips.
Nope, he’d been much more concerned about the Mandalorian armor he’d purchased from the Jawas years before. The only way he was going to be able to keep it was if Din Djarin failed to help with the Krayt dragon and that just didn’t seem fair or right to Grogu. Mandalorian armor belonged to Mandalorians. Not Jawas. Never Jawas, really.
Grogu had seen the writing on the inside of the cuirass (don’t ask him how, Grogu knows how to keep a secret) and knew it said, in very fine print, ‘Property of Mandalore. If found, return immediately. Otherwise we’ll come and take it off you and you know that means and it won’t be pleasant.’ Or words to that affect.
Cobb Vanth bought the armor, put it one and immediately fell subject to the requirements written on it. He did the protect your clan part pretty well (normally on the inside of the vambrace) and the help people in need part really well (on the flight pack), but the returning it to the people who made it at such cost and with so much riding on it (someone’s whole family tree was written on the rest of the cuirass) was something the Marshal had failed at.
So while Cobb Vanth was busy fussing and fretting about how the whole thing was going to go down, Grogu had to sit there and listen to them talk about every plan for attacking the critter. None of those plans included just feeding it. None of them included a method for getting it to move out of the area. Nope. They were all about ending the critter.
Grogu’s Jedi training told him that there had to be another way, but no one was paying attention to him. If they had, he would have suggested that they just work together to move the town. It wasn’t like Mos Pelgo was huge. It was a handful of buildings and very little in the way of infrastructure. Tatooine was mostly empty, so moving away from a Krayt dragon freeway and nest seemed like a good option to him.
Or, they could have lured the Krayt out of it’s den and then destroyed the den, nest, whatever. The Krayt would have to find a new place to live. They could have even looked for a better place and set it up and then encouraged the critter to go there. Krayt dragons were native to Tatooine, which was pretty hard to believe, because it takes a critter forever to evolve and Tatooine had once been a very different planet, green and lush with oceans and everything.
But Grogu supposed that anything was possible with the Force, so that may have been part of the problem that Tatooine had. Maybe some Force adept had been there and made changes that allowed the giant critters to survive in such a hostile environment. He supposed he could have done that as well. Used the Force to compel the critter to leave them all alone. His former masters would have frowned at that, but they weren’t there to scold him or help him solve the problem a different way.
When Grogu complained to his protector, the Mandalorian had laughed and commented that he seemed to like eating the Krayt dragon meat, so maybe he wasn’t that concerned about it’s fate after all. Grogu had to admit, the critter was tasty and he was a sucker for a good meal. Huh. Maybe he shouldn’t have been day dreaming during the situational ethics course that Master Windu had delivered so many years before. It would probably come in handy while he and the Mandalorian were just trying to get him to safety. Maybe he could ask Cobb Vanth to give him a refresher course. He seemed to understand that topic pretty well for a marshal.

The fascinating thing about hindsight and Star Wars is that we can tell that Luke does use the Force, even before he knows what it is. And, of course, a part of this is the novel, which spells things out so people like me can tell what’s happening. (I can be a bit slow, so apologies)
The most obvious example is the sandpeople. Luke dodges their attacks without even thinking about it. And we know this isn’t just an inate skill Luke had because Luke is so scared in that instance, he passes out. He dodges the blows based on the Force.
But, there’s also subtler examples. When Owen is talking to the Jawas and the R2 unit blows up, Threepio suggests he get Artoo instead. The novel says that “Luke was in the habit of making instant decisions — for good or bad — anyway” which is a clear sign that he either does things instinctively, or he’s been guided by the Force.
I believe that it’s him being guided by the Force because of how easy it is for Luke to use the Force on the Falcon once he can’t see. Like, he gets it down in just a few minutes! The Jedi are guided by the Force, yes, but the Force doesn’t actively puppeteer them. For Luke to have connected to the Force so quickly is part of the proof that he’s been using the Force without knowing for a long time.
Another piece of evidence is how quickly Luke tends to get over his annoyance or anger. In the forst movie, he’s annoyed for all of a few minutes, then he just kind of accepts that he’s stuck with the droids. And the acceptance occurs before he sees the message from Leia, because Luke’s original plan seemed to be to ignore Threepio and Artoo entirely. But, he only ignores them for a moment, then he gets over it.
As for anger, we don’t see Luke angry very often. In fact, I think the only time is when Vader brings up Leia on the second Death Star. Otherwise, Luke’s most impulsive actions are actually based on grief. Leaving Tatooine in the first place was because of his grief after losing Owen and Beru. And when he attacks Vader in the Empire Strikes Back, it’s not anger fueling him so much as grief. There is some anger, he is obviously upset that this dude killes his dad and Ben, but he seems more sad than furious.
When Luke does get angry, he gets over it very quickly! Luke’s anger lasts about as long as it takes for him to cut off Vader’s hand, then he isn’t angry anymore. He’s disappointed in himself for falling to that level, but more than that, he is emboldened to stand up to Palpatine, to be confident in his standing, and he isn’t angry at all.
“Why is this proof?” you may be wondering. Well, from various sources we know that strong Force users sometimes effect their surroundings inadvertently when they get too emotional. A primary example is Anakin, who breaks things with the Force all the time when he gets angry (albeit, this is more in extended universe canon, as in, the cartoons and comics and such, but I’m positive it is mentioned in the movies).
If, as a child, Luke got angry and Owen and Beru tried to teach him not to for the sole purpose that they didn’t want him destroying things, that would make sense! Of course, a large part of Luke’s lack of anger is that he is very different from Anakin, personality-wise. As I said, he doesn’t get angry often and most of his actions are really fuelled on impulsive desperation more than anything else.
Luke does tend to do the first thing that comes to his mind, he’s “in the habit of making instant decisions,” and that’s precisely why he does things like leave Tatooine or decide that rescuing Leia from a heavily guarded area of a heavily armed planet-destroying ship is a good idea. Or even the times when he decides to forego meeting up with the Rebels at the rendezvous after Hoth, instead making the split second decision to go to Dagobah instead.
If you think about it, Luke is really very good at listening to the Force. He’s portrayed as impulsive, but look at the other character who follows the Force, no matter what it says: Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon is infamous in canon for making split second decisions and going with them. He decides to train Anakin and he jumps through a lot (A LOT) of hoops to make it happen. Qui-Gon is one of the most impulsive Jedi we ever see, and it’s because he listens to the Force, just like Luke does.
You see, I was thinking about the complaints some people have about Star Wars (it rhymes with dinema pins) and I was thinking “so much of Star Wars makes a lot of sense, especially looking back in hindsight.” For example: Vader calls Luke “Skywalker” before Hoth, then later, Palpatine says that Luke is Anakin Skywalker’s son. And, while you could take this as Vader suddenly going “oh my Force, Skywalker is related to me??” it makes a lot more sense to assume that Vader knew that, but he didn’t want Palpatine to know.
It makes sense why Vader is so possessive of Luke, in hindsight, with the knowledge of the prequels. He’s possessive because he watched his mother die and he thought he killed his wife and children and he really believes that the Dark Side is stronger, therefore, he wants Luke join the Dark Side because he doesn’t want another person he loves to be powerless. More than that, Anakin turns on Palpatine because Palpatine is killing Luke, and Anakin doesn’t want to watch Luke die. Anakin doesn’t want to watch anyone he loves die, not again, and the prequels make it all the more bittersweet.
So, why does Luke take to the Force so quickly? It takes years for Jedi to master the Force, and training always started young. Even Yoda says this, when he says Luke is too old. It takes a long time, and it takes a lot of discipline and a lot of help from older, wiser Jedi. But, Luke is able to deflect blaster bolts almost instantly. And we can assume that he hasn’t done a ton of lifting things, since he struggles with his lightsaber. But, maybe he didn’t even know you could lift things with the Force? Who would’ve told him? All he saw Obi-Wan do was a mind trick, really.
Why was Luke able to master the Force so quickly? Why is it so easy for him to stand on the precipice of the Dark Side, but turn back? A feat that is difficult for older, stronger, wiser Jedi, and he just does it. Luke takes to the gymnastics part of training exceptionally well. Luke even lifts his ship partially up. He gives up, but if he had tried for another moment, he definitely would have succeeded. And it’s a bit strange for him to be able to lift his ship even slightly; Yoda’s reaction proves that. Yoda seems surprised and like he expects Luke to be able to lift his ship.
Why is Luke so powerful and talented in the Force, when he got less than the bare minimum of training, started late, is impulsive, is reckless, and has attachment?
I think it’s because he has always used the Force. He just didn’t know it was the Force. I mean, they say that he shot womp rats for fun, and that he raced through perilous desert (that might have been the deleted Biggs scene, admittedly). He was already using the Force, and so he was already training himself in the Force, all inadvertently.
I think it’s a bit unfair to act like Luke’s power doesn’t make sense. Especially since the hints are all laid out in front of us. And I know I shouldn’t complain about YouTube videos that are years old and made by people who nitpick just to nitpick. But, Lucas really did a wonderful job laying down hints of past events without showing them or even directly explaining them. And so Luke being able to deflect blaster bolts once his eyes are covered makes a lot of sense. It’s just another piece of evidence in the long list of evidence that Luke has been inadvertently using the Force for years, and just didn’t recognize it.
