Once again very upset about sword art online’s objectively interesting story concept being ruined by horrible execution

Forever grateful to SAO abridged bcs it gave us such a good sibling dynamic that felt new to big media. Their relationship feels explored and with some nuisance.

The story does ask about Kazuto’s past life before the game and how his home life would be affected by his accident

That was such a wasted potential of the original fr ! Even in the original source , having an absent mother even after u recover from a coma and a sister who you barely see bcs you grew apart from!!! C’mon!!! Why did they had to put the freaking incest-

IT'S A GOOD CONCEPT!!!!! I am always pissed at SAO BECAUSE THE BASIC CONCEPTS FOR IT ARE SO GOOD!!! The premise of a sister losing her brother to a death game and then getting him back but he's a completely different person is so cool!!!! He had to get stuck in a video game to stop being a digital shut in and learn to exist in the real world again!!!!!! But WHY MAKE HER IN LOVE WITH HIM!!! DOUBLE TIME!!! BOTH AS HER BROTHER AND AS AN ANONYMOUS PLAYER SHE MEETS IN AN ONLINE GAME!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! WHAT A SPEEDRUN OF RUINING THE STORY!!!!!! It's su funny how SWE had to cut some frames and scenes differently bc Suguha/Leafa fanservice is so gratuitous they couldn't leave it in once they cut the incest out of the plot bdjsakbfkbk

Welcome to Project RE:Vive!

RE:Vive is a complete, from the ground rework of Sword Art Online, that features a completely new cast of characters, familiar side characters, and a brand new timeline! Project RE:Vive's focus is escapism. It’s about the personas we create for ourselves and why— but broadly, it’s just about how mental health would interact with virtual reality.

My goal with RE:Vive is to act as an alternative retelling of the original that explores new themes and ideas. It’s not meant to replace or cover any ground SAO stood on. It simply acts as another story.

The plot

In a slightly more advanced society not too dissimilar from our own, fifteen year old Hana spends her days in relative isolation due to a rare genetic disorder. 

A typical girl, Hana struggles with things completely normal for her age. Her only solace is an advanced virtual reality device her father created that seems to be nothing more than a dead end, until one day, he brings home a copy of the world’s first VRMMORPG.

With fulldive VR now releasing to the public after years of testing, Hana seizes her chance to escape her struggles, only to find herself in a death trap.

There, she’s sent on a sprawling, deadly quest to clear all one hundred levels of the game, while grappling with another side of herself.

Okay so I have a favor

Have any of you seen Sword Art Online?

Or that one episode of black mirror with the two gamer guys who start playing this fighter game together and realize they can have sex in the game?

Because I’ve had this fucking concept for so fucking long and it’s literally just Jalex meets SAO meets That Episode Of Black Mirror

I wanna work on it more but I don’t have enough world building

Does anyone have any ideas?

Something that I think about a lot sometimes is how in SAO there’s this really interesting dynamic because (at least for that first season) these people all stuck in the game are literally war veterans by the time they come out into the real world again. But like, they’re coming out into the real world where before they were in a video game, and it’s just this concept of yes okay “it was just a video game blah blah blah” but like they were literally all fighting for their lives?? They witnessed people dying left and right all the time. And so having these straight up teenagers that were the military generals and front-line fighters just be dropped back into normal ordinary teenage lives - how do you even cope with that? How do you even begin to explain to your loved ones that yeah it might’ve been a video game, but it was a war front too, and 9 outta 10 people have got some sort of PTSD after escaping the game.

I dunno, I just have a lot of feelings about this and I want it to be addressed more because idk if they touched on it a lot in the show since it’s been a bit since I watched it and i never read the manga so- yeah.
