Jamie Hersch: "Welcome back to UBS Arena here on Long Island where PWHL Toronto leads PWHL New York two-nothing after one. We're pleased to be joined by the scorer of both goals in that first period, Sarah Nurse, and Sarah, everything you've touched lately seems to turn to gold. You've got four goals now in two games. What's working so well?"
Sarah Nurse: "Um, I mean, we're just focusing on our systems and what makes us successful. I think we're trying to go to hard areas of the ice, because that's how you score goals in this league. Uh, you can't play perimeter, you have to get to those greasy areas, and so I've been taking some pointers from Spooner for sure in front of the net."
Dave Starman: "It's interesting because if you look at the analytics for your team, that certainly bears itself out. You guys are number one in terms of generating shots from the slot. When did that become part of the fabric of this group? Was it early on, or was it acquired during the long win streak?"
Sarah Nurse: "Uh, to be honest, I think it was being able to reflect and watch video of what makes us successful. I think, uh, there's so many times you come down and you're trying to score off the rush, and you're taking these outside shots, and they just don't work in this league, our goalies are too good. Um, so if it's not a shot that's going straight in the net, it has to generate some sort of chaos in front, and that's something we've really leaned on."
Dave Starman: "In this period number one here, good first period for you guys. We appreciate your time, good luck the rest of the way."
“I was actually told that the closest thing that I would ever come to professional hockey is if I married a men’s professional hockey player. It really shows how people value women in sports... In order for a sport to grown and be the best possible sport in the whole world, everybody needs to feel like they’re a part of it.”
