Me? Hopping back on to post The Sims 2 screenshots out of nowhere? It’s more likely than you think.

I really missed Simblr and playing and sharing my game with people I consider my friends, so here I am! Diving headfirst into Sims 2 over the holidays. I spent Christmas decorating a university for a ‘hood I’m throwing deco in at this moment. I saw this post by @sterina-sims, which was inspired by this post by @saralynnx, and got inspired myself!

I never tried decorating my own ‘hood when I played the Sims 2 as a preteen, and I can’t stress enough how fun I find it. Seriously, put on some Youtube, work through your watch later list, and zone out decorating. 10/10

1. What do you have under your bed?  // uhm, lets see. my suitcase I never use, a laundry bin with a bunch of extra blankets, and some empty boxes for specific stuff when/if we move.

2. Favorite candy?  // I like fruit flavored candy most nowadays. uh... jolly ranchers are pretty good. idk I don't have a lot of options that are vegan so..... oooh sour patch kids.

5. Are you completely sober rn?  // at this exact moment in time I am currently stoned lmao. not that much though. I don't like drinking much though, so if we're just talking alcohol then yes.

6. What’s the one thing that annoys you more than anything?  // hrm.... when people expect me to respond to texts or conversations immediately. sorry, I'm too old to be available 24/7 to people just cause you grew up with cell phones/social media telling us we should be. 😩

Have you ever gotten you tongue stuck to a cold pole during winter? // another question I wish I could say no to lmaooo. shit is unsanitary, and also as a child i have definitely done this. also this happened last week to an ice cube I licked instead of putting in my drink. in other news, I'm a dumbass.

8. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? // uh.... beach? probably beach. it's too cold here and it's been too long. private beach with a pina colada. ;D

9. What was the single last word you spoke? // I'm honestly not sure. J isn't home yet, so I've been alone for like 9 hours. probably something to my cat tbh. or 'goodbyeeeee' on the phone.

Lilith didn’t seek comfort with her twin, or with her alternate universe self either for that matter. All she had was Dirk, and she clung onto him like a lifeline.

Her parents didn’t allow him to sleep over, of course. Not that she cared. They were too busy screaming at each other to notice her sneaking Dirk in anyway.

The fighting was incomprehensible to Dirk. After what happened to his mother, he thought everyone in Pleasantview would consider themselves lucky to have their spouse alive. Instead, Daniel and Mary-Sue Pleasant seemed determined to make each other’s lives as miserable as possible.

“Are you okay?” Dirk asked, even though he knew the answer was no. He felt Lilith shake her head.

“That damn merge,” Lilith mumbled. Ever since the Merge of Timelines had everyone meet up with their mirror counterpart, her mother had been infuriated that her Daniel had married someone else in that timeline, and her father had been infuriated that his Mary-Sue had married someone else in that timeline. Whoever caused that merge, I wish you a lifetime of pain and suffering, she thought.

14. Except for the essentials, what mods could you absolutely not live without? In no particular order...

Bigger Families by Cyjon. Eight sims is too few when you have elderly parents, a married couple, several of their kids, and possibly also some younger siblings all still living in the same house!

No Fresh Food by BoilingOil. To me, the fresh food points given by garden produce and fish are super unbalanced--a single harvest of eggplants can probably keep the average sim family fed for a week! This way I can have my sims garden and fish and fill their fridges for free, without having so, so much food on hand that not even their great-grandchildren will ever have to buy groceries.

Voeille’s Pond and Sea Water Overhaul. Prettttttyyyyy.

No Inheritance After Elder Dies by dickhurt. Since 20,000+ simoleons can otherwise appear out of nowhere, making sims insta-rich.

And finally, I’ll go ahead and say MidgeTheTree’s Hereditary Supernaturalism. I haven’t really had a chance to use it in my game yet, but I’m so, so excited that the ability to become werewolves, witches, etc. can now run in families. Now that such a mod exists I wouldn’t want to play supernatural sims without it.

17. Do you play rotationally or keep sim spreadsheets? Rotationally, heck yeah! I’ve tried focusing on single families in the past and it just doesn’t hold my interest as well. I love controlling all the sims in a neighborhood, influencing how their interconnected relationships develop, and having sims grow up at the same pace as their neighbors and relatives in other households.

As for spreadsheets, I do technically have one for Panorama, but I never update it. So not really. I’d like to create a character page and/or neighborhood family tree for Panorama some day, but I have little to no idea how to actually do that so who knows if I’ll ever get around to it.

18. Do you play a wants-based playstyle? Err... somewhat? If I had to put a number on it, I’d say I play about 80% wants-based, 20% I-am-your-simmer-overlord-and-I-know-what’s-best-for-you-based. 😂 Although it may not be apparent from my storytelling, I love to keep my sims happy and fulfill their wants. But sometimes the storylines I have in mind for my sims diverge from their wants, and I usually follow story in those cases, unless they roll a want so unexpected and interesting that I have to consider it, planned story be damned.

And I try to take variety into consideration: It seems like just about every family sim will roll a want for another baby as soon as the first ages up to a toddler, and again if allowed to have a second baby, and so on and so on until every family sim has 6 kids. And same with romance sims, who all want to make out with 3 sims, and then 5, and then 10... So sometimes I make the call to ignore those guaranteed-to-roll wants when I feel they’ve amassed the appropriate number of lovers/kids/etc. BUT, if, say, a fortune sim suddenly rolled a want to flirt with someone other than their partner, or a family sim suddenly wanted a late-in-life child after their other children were all older, I’d give those wants much more consideration since it feels more like something the sim actually wants rather than what’s being pushed on them by the game code.

19. Do you meticulously control everything in your game or let things play out autonomously? Do you pick spouses for your sims or let them choose for themselves? As with my answer about my playstyle, I’d say I meticulously control things about 80% of the time and go with the flow about 20%. ... Maybe more like 85-15. I am a pretty controlling and type-A simmer by nature, especially when I have specific storylines in mind. But lately I’ve been trying to loosen the reins, especially when it comes to skilling. I used to plop a thinking hat on all my sims and have them skill, skill, skill during every free moment. These days they earn the skills they earn, and I’m really liking how that makes each sim feel like even more of an individual.

I also have mods like ACR to try to force a little more spontaneity and lack of control into my gameplay. I let ACR determine my sims’ gender preferences. (I *don’t* necessarily let it make them flirt and woohoo willy-nilly--if I catch anyone in the act of making an inappropriate booty call, I reserve the right to cancel the action. Though if they succeed in doing so before I notice, fair play to them.) I always roll for both primary and secondary aspiration. And I have an ROS generator that I’m trying to remember to use!

As for choosing spouses, that depends, too! In some cases I do have a partner in mind from the outset (all of my Panorama founders had predetermined spouses, since there was no one else to choose from!), but if not, I let chemistry and wants be the guide. I usually end up falling for whoever my sim ultimately falls for anyway. Good chemistry between sims just always ends up being so cute!
