Mon annedocte de cinema préféré c'est quand meme dans le film le retour du roi où Peter Jackson expliquait à Christopher Lee comment il voyait la scene pendant laquelle Saroumane se fait poignarder, comment agir, comment crier et que Cristopher Lee a sorti au réal : "Peter, as tu la moindre idée du bruit que ca fait quand quelqu'un est poignardé dans le dos ? Parce que moi oui".

Et Peter Jackson qui repond "ecoute Christopher tu a l'air de savoir ce que tu fais, on fait comme ça".

Sans plus de négociations. Probablement parce que Jackson savait que Lee avait bossé dans les operations spéciales pendant la seconde guerre mondiale et que le monsieur n'avait donc pas que des competences d'acteur.

Some last minute thoughts and wishes before episode 7 comes and become the game changer that will ruin all theories.

I don't know if i lost for good my theory that the Stranger was Sauron because episode 5 ruined it almost completely but not totally.

I guess he wasn't wrong to wake up grumpy (and to kill few fireflies or bend the trees and make the land tremble in the process) after being sent like a meteorit to the other side of Midde Earth, and after ending with half of his brain so fried that he couldn't remember his name and even started eating paper.

So let's say he's an istari, possibly even Gandalf or Saroumane, asked to carry the mission to help the side of the elves and humans to form an alliance against Sauron, how did the Valar know that Sauron was going to make his move even though he was hiding under a different form all this time and acting like a deceiver? Even the eruption of Mount Doom wasn't his work unless Adar lied and he is Sauron.

Did they really sent a powerful maia for one moriondor and hundred orcs that an army of 500 Nùmenoreans has beat easily? If it wasn't for the hilt, Adar would have been completely defeated.

Did they foresee that the hilt will be discover and chaos will ensue? Then why not sent their messenger directly to the Southlands to retrieve it before the dark forces could put their hands on it? And why sent him in this miserable state? Has he been attacked during his trip by the Mystics and is it the reason of his amnesia? Was he forced to change his destination? Is the fire without a heat felt by Nori just a maia thing, shared by Sauron in Morgoth's lair?

In all cases, if this theory is crushed, it won't be my biggest regret because i wanted it to be true only for Nori's character development and the fact that she was never be exposed to corruption and deceit before him. It would have been too a good explanation of why Sauron doesnt' take the Hobbits seriously.

My biggest regret would be, after rereading all those old arguments i wrote and left in my drafts, for my other favourite theory to not be true either: Arondir as Sauron.

I don't have the time and the space to explain all my reasons but damn if he wouldn't have been the best Sauron!

I mean physically, intellectually and strategically (well except for the way he has hidden the hilt), he's so superior to everyone surrounding him, including the other elves of his company.

I've rewatched since few hours all his scenes and few facts surprised me: like he's been in every episode of season 1. The only other character with Galadriel to have been constantly on screen, and sometimes even when the the Southlanders were absent (episode 3 Adar), though he didn't have the same number of scenes as Galadriel of course.

The thought of Arondir being more than he seems hit me again while watching him defending alone Ostirith. It struck me that his speed, strength, and agility were on a level i've never seen any elf shown before, except Galadriel (when she killed the troll) As an elf, of course, he's gifted with many supernatural abilities: piercing sight as confirmed by Galadriel during her talk with Isildur, and piercing hearing as showed by Elrond when he spied on Durin and Disa, but Arondir has always been different: he has always dominated everyone else, in every way. A true image of grace and balance, of perfection even during fights. Something i imagine that Sauron would want to project, as being himself obsessed by Order and Control.

It's hard to deny that he's beautiful as a fallen angel should be and the casting magnificently reflects that. It's not a shallow comment: everything about Ismael Cruz Cordova's look conveys the idea there's something surnatural about his appearance even for an elf: from the natural elegance of his movement to his gorgeous skin color. In return he's attracted by beauty: by the human fragile beauty of Bronwyn, by the wild beauty of The Southlands. He said to Bronwyn: "beauty has a great power to heal the soul" and that's how i imagine that Sauron would have tried to heal his soul from his past actions as the "beautiful servant": immersing himself in the beauty.

He didn't want to leave the Mordor Southlands with his company. a place that combines beauty (it has recovered from the destruction of war) and darkness (their inhabitants are still the descendent of the men who are linked by a blood oath to Morgoth). Arondir has always assumed the fact that he was drawn to this land and its inhabitants, which makes perfect sense if he's Sauron considering his connection to Orodruin.

In episode 1, he went alone in the tunnels which shows an incredible confidence in his ability to survive, and surprisingly almost no fear, not even after he saw the devastation inflicted on the village of Haldern.

He never sent for help from the other elves (it's strange that nobody reacted in Lindon to this garrison that never came back home, despite the king's order to disband the outpost).

In episode 3, he fought and reacted with a precision that is mindblowing and that no other elf of his company showed (not even the watchwarden): during the escape attempt, he was the only one bold enough to take an axe and destroy the tent that was hiding the orcs from the sun, strong enough to chain the warg alone, restrained it alone and killed it alone (in a spectacular move). This scene is only surpassed by his fight with the giant orc in episode 6.

In episode 4, after he was freed by Adar and returned to the village, he sliced an orc (using Galadriel's technique shown in episode 5) as if he had done that all his life, while he was supposed to have never seen one before. He said to the watchwarden that he was a sower before his assignment to the Southlands, but the region was supposed to be in peace since the defeat of Morgoth and the escape of Sauron (Adar said that Sauron had gathered all the last evil forces and lead them to the extreme north).

And later in the forest when Theo and him were pursued by the orcs, the way he avoided and caught an arrow with his bare hand and sent it back, killing the orc he targeted all while never stopping, was incredible.

But it's in episode 6 that the clues seem the most significative: one of them was when Adar was inside Ostirith tower before its fall, and Waldreg and an orc came at the same time to talk to him. The dialogues were a strange merger between these two discussions as if they were about the same person, whereas the orc was talking about Arondir while Waldreg was talking about Sauron:

Waldreg: Meaning no offense, Lord-father, but where is he? What happened to Sauron?

The Orc: Can't find tooth nor tail of him. Must've got smart and scarpered.

Adar: No. The Elf's here. I smell him.

And like i said, he destroyed alone the watchtower, plus his fight with the giant orc in the village was spectacular in every way.

I like him too as Sauron, because i like the parallels he had with Adar: the connection through the seeds, the promise of a new Eden/life made to Bronwyn after the battle while Adar promised a home to his orcs, their past meetings in which they didn't try to kill each other while having every reason to do so, the idea that instead the writers opted for a game between the two dark leaders: Arondir/Sauron trying to stop Adar to find the sword hilt and using the men of Bronwyn's village to fight for him again, unknown to them, and slow down Adar.

Not every details matches this theory of course: he was shown as being in love with Bronwyn though he never said the words, but can Sauron love or does he only fake it? He did a bad job with the hilt from his failure at hiding it to his inability to recognize it had been replaced by an axe, but did he really want to stop Adar at the end? Or was he pissed off that Halbrand was "crowned" in front of him (the camera focused on Galadriel and him in this moment: he seemed surprised/shocked by this sudden action, while Galadriel was cheering Halbrand, waiting for him to say yes when he was asked by Bronwyn if he was the king promised)? If so, it would explain why he didn''t check the hilt Galadriel gave him: Arondir was shown trying to destroy it for few long minutes before the battle. Even as a simple elf, he had very good eyes to notice details and would have recognized the difference in the weight and form with the axe, under the burlap in which it was wrapped. And if he was Sauron, he had every reason to say nothing: he wanted the land for himself and so he abandoned his attempt to stop Adar, who became conveniently the new Sauron, a fake one, but enough convincing to be shipped to Nùmenor while Arondir heads to Eregion.

I wish it was the case because there was never on the show a character as charismatic and powerful (except the Stranger), as good in term of characterization, certainly not Halbrand, to play the part of Sauron.

Du roman au film: Le Hobbit:

A priori nous avons tous vu et même peut-être lu.

Moi-même, j'avais lu le livre avant de voir les films. C'est d'ailleurs mon tout premier Tolkien. C'est un roman très court, facile d'accès et à vrai dire, je n'avais pas particulièrement adoré. Le Hobbit a été, il me semble, adapté d'autres façons, en animation me semble t-il mais ici, je ne parlerai que de l'adaptation de Peter Jackson. Déjà, il y a bien une chose à remarquer, le livre est relativement court et Peter Jackson nous en tire trois films. Il y a donc évidemment des changements. Je sais que Peter Jackson a pris des choses d'autres oeuvres de Tolkien ou d'appendices, mais je suis loin d'être une spécialiste des oeuvres de Tolkien, je resterai donc exclusivement centré sur le Hobbit.

Un voyage inattendu:

Je crois que le but de Peter Jackson c'était de raccrocher le Hobbit au Seigneur des Anneaux. La différence majeure avec Tolkien, c'est que ce dernier a écrit le Hobbit avant le Seigneur des Anneaux, Peter Jackson fait totalement l'inverse. Je ne sais pas, au moment où il a écrit le Hobbit, jusqu'où aller la vision de Tolkien de son univers mais c'est toujours plus difficile de faire un prequel puisqu'il faut respecter ce qu'il va y avoir après. Ce qu'il manquait aussi au Hobbit et que Peter Jackson a tenté d'insuffler: c'est l'épique. Il est bel et bien présent dans Le Seigneur des Anneaux puisqu'il s'agit de sauver la Terre du milieu. Dans le Hobbit, nous suivons une quête beaucoup plus personnelle: celle d'un roi nain qui souhaite récupérer son royaume...Autant comme conte pour enfant c'est très charmant, autant pour accrocher une foule de fans qui avaient en souvenir le Seigneur des Anneaux, il va falloir leur donner de quoi se mettre sous la dent. Le Hobbit de Peter Jackson joue aussi bien évidemment sur des clins d'oeils fait aux fans de la première trilogie, dès le début du Hobbit. En effet, Un voyage inattendu commence là où débutait le Seigneur des Anneaux. Et dès ce premier volet, Peter Jackson rajoute des personnages absents du roman: Galadriel, Saroumane, Frodon...Bonjour clin d'oeil aux fans! Ou même Radagast...Il se sert en fait d'eux pour ajouter son souffle épique, faire peser une étrange menace sur la Terre du Milieu. Pendant ce temps-là, la route de Bilbo suit approximativement celle du livre. Il a aussi fallu beaucoup plus différencier les nains. Parce qu'avouant-le, dans le livre, à part Thorin, ils sont majoritairement une masse. Bilbo est réellement le personnage accrocheur pour le lecteur, le point d'ancrage. A l'écran, il fallait bien mettre en avant chaque nain.

La désolation de Smaug:

Le second volet est celui qui commence à prendre plus de marge. Je noterai une déception en tant que lectrice: j'attendais beaucoup de l'apparition de Beorn et finalement on le voit très peu.  On s'éloigne régulièrement de Bilbo et des nains pour suivre Gandalf et Radagast, rajoutant toujours ce souffle épique en faisant peser une menace sur la Terre du Milieu. Mais évidemment, le big changement, c'est la présence de Legolas (et coucou je fais des clins d'oeils aux fans) nous permettant d'explorer d'autres facettes de ce personnage et de son très majestueux père. Bien que je la craignais, je n'ai pas été mécontente de la présence de Legolas à l'écran. Après tout, Tolkien l'avait-il déjà inventé lorsqu'il avait écrit le Hobbit? Peut-être aurait-il intégré ce personnage au récit s'il avait créé plus tôt? Mais le personnage totalement inédit c'est bien évidemment Tauriel. Il faut bien avouer que l'oeuvre de Tolkien est exclusivement masculine. Autant au moment de l'écriture et de la parution de l'oeuvre, ça n'avait rien de très perturbant, autant depuis, le féminisme est passé par là, et les oeuvres avec trop de testostérones, ça plait moins (sauf quand c'est vraiment revendiqué). Du coup, il fallait bien rajouter un personnage féminin. Cette idée-là ne me gênait pas et je la comprends tout à fait. Je trouve juste que ça a été plutôt mal fait. Créer un nouveau personnage, c'est forcément apporter des changements, puisqu'il va interagir avec les personnages et l'univers. Tauriel interagit d'un point de vue amoureux avec Legolas et Kili. Et franchement, c'était pas du tout nécessaire et vraiment mal fait. A la limite, on aurait pu garder la femme de Bard, au lieu de la tuer, et apporter un personnage féminin positif. Sans être une combattante, Arwen est un personnage fort du Seigneur des Anneaux. Je n'ai rien contre Tauriel en soi, mais je trouve que sa storyline est mauvaise. Ca nous apporte des changements au niveau des nains, vu que Kili, Fili, Bofur et Gloin restent en arrière... Il y a également un changement au niveau de Bard, qui est plus développé que dans le livre. Ceci ne me gêne pas du tout. Dans le livre, Bard apparait en fait assez peu et c'est quand même lui qui tue Smaug. Je crois que Tolkien l'a inventé très tardivement en se rendant compte que Bilbo ne pourrait pas tuer Smaug et que Bard était un embryon d'Aragorn. Il me semble donc assez naturel qu'il soit plus développé dans la version cinématographique.

La bataille des cinq armées:

Je ne sais même pas si j'ai envie de parler de cette partie qui a été une grosse déception alors que franchement, dans le livre, la bataille est assez passionnante et on a vraiment l'impression que ça envoi du lourd. Ici, on torche vite faire le souffle épique qu'on a voulu donné en sortant les super pouvoirs de Galadriel, j'avais un peu envie de dire: tout ça pour ça.  Non parce qu'après ça va nous prendre trois films pour nous en débarrasser définitivement de celui-là! Etait-ce vraiment nécessaire de faire ces rajouts pour les conclure de cette façon? A part nous éloigner de Bilbo, ça a servi à quoi? Ah oui, à raccrocher les wagons avec Le Seigneur des Anneaux...Youpi...Franchement, le début d'Un voyage inattendu et la fin de ce volet me suffisait pour raccrocher les wagons, je ne savais absolument pas besoin de plus. Et il était petit clin d'oeil sympa par-ci par-là, voilà... J'ai aussi une sensation de fin bâclée. Autant dans le livre on sait à peu près qui devient quoi après tout ça, autant là tout le monde s'en fout.  Et je ne parlerai maintenant de Tauriel qui n'a vraiment RIEN mais RIEN apporté ici.

Du coup, j'ai été un peu méchante, parce que j'aime quand même cette saga mais je ne pense pas que se soit la meilleure adaptation possible du Hobbit.

Dans Le seigneur des anneaux lors du tournage de la scène où Saroumane se fait poignarder par Grima langue de serpent (attention spoiler), Christopher Lee avait expliqué que contrairement à ce que disait le script il ne fallait pas crier "Haaaaaa !" quand on se faisait poignarder comme ça par derrière. Il a littéralement demandé à Peter Jackson si il savait quel bruit faisait quelqu'un qui se faisait poignarder, "Parce que moi je sais".

Du coup Peter Jackson (qui savait très bien que Lee avait eu un petit stage / job d'été dans la Special Operation Executive - les services secrets quoi- britannique pendant la seconde guerre mondiale) lui a juste dit "Okay Christopher, on va faire comme tu dis et je ne vais te poser absolument aucune question".

Voila maintenant vous savez que chasser des Nazis fait partie de la formation recommandée du métier d'acteur.

** SYNOPSIS ** Atteignant enfin la Montagne Solitaire, Thorin et les Nains, aidés par Bilbon le Hobbit, ont réussi à récupérer leur royaume et leur trésor. Mais ils ont également réveillé le dragon Smaug qui déchaîne désormais sa colère sur les habitants de Lac-ville. A présent, les Nains, les Elfes, les Humains mais aussi les Wrags et les Orques menés par le Nécromancien, convoitent les richesses de la Montagne Solitaire. La bataille des cinq armées est imminente et Bilbon est le seul à pouvoir unir ses amis contre les puissances obscures de Sauron.

Treize ans après la sortie du Seigneur des Anneaux : La Communauté de l'Anneau, les Studios Warner nous ramènent une dernière fois en Terre du Milieu. Peter Jackson, le réalisateur, nous offre un dernier opus et un au-revoir cinématographique au monde de Tolkien assez épique et émouvant. La scène d'ouverture est particulièrement spectaculaire On commence le long métrage exactement où on avait quitté Bilbon et ses compagnons dans La Désolation de Smaug. Il n'y a pas de perte de temps et Jackson nous plonge directement dans les flammes de l'action (et de Smaug).

On ne peut s'empêcher de vouloir le comparer au Retour du Roi (2003), et il est vrai qu'il n'est pas aussi varié émotionnellement, et l'impact qu'il aura sur le public n'aura rien à voir.

Le visuel du film est bluffant ! Il est beaucoup plus noir que les deux précédents volets, aussi bien dans les images que dans son histoire et dans ce que traversent nos héros. On ne s'ennuie pas une minute. Tout est mis en oeuvre pour qu'aucun fan ne quitte sa vision de la Terre du Milieu déçu. On revisite certains monstres (adorés) de la première trilogie et on en découvre d'autres tout aussi majestueux et terrifiants.

La bataille des cinq armées est spectaculaire. Elle ne prend pas toute la place du film, mais en met plein les yeux. On y trouve une des scènes séquences les plus ambitieuses de Peter Jackson. Son jeu de caméra nous laisse momentanément sans voix. Un grand moment de cinéma !

On salut une scène d'action particulièrement extraordinaire : fans de Sarouman, Elrond, et Galadriel, préparez vous à un grand moment de frissons ! Même si Azog, l'Orque blanc est le grand méchant (et ennemi numéro un de Thorin et de sa compagnie) de cette épopée, le Seigneur des Ténèbres est de retour, et quel retour ! On est de nouveau face à la grande puissance de Sauron, et ça nous plait !

Les acteurs sont tous aussi bons que dans les précédents opus. Richard Armitage, dans le rôle de Thorin, est vraiment fantastique. Il traduit à merveille la noirceur et la folie qui prennent d'assaut son personnage. Lee Pace (Thranduil, le père de Legolas), est majestueux à souhait, Orlando Bloom (notre Legolas préféré), reste fidèle à lui même et au rôle qu'il avait pris il y a quinze ans. Evangeline Lily (Tauriel) et Aidan Turner (Kili) offrent un plein d'émotions.

Pour les fans du Seigneur des Anneaux, il faut se préparer à un moment émouvant avec Ian Holm (le premier Bilbon Saquet), et Jackson fait plaisir à tous les fans avec quelques mentions et clins d’œil à nos personnages et moments préférés de la première trilogie.

Et pour finir, c'est les larmes, et cette chanson, ''The Last Goodbye''de Billy Boyd (Pippin) qui nous achève lors du générique.

Ce final est plus que satisfaisant. Sans avoir l'envergure de la quête du Seigneur des Anneaux, Peter Jackson prouve qu'il maîtrise l'art de raconter des histoires à travers sa caméra. Il complète et termine comme il se doit notre aventure dans le cœur du monde fantastique de Tolkien. Après treize ans, 1031 minutes de films (en versions courtes), on se sent (presque), avec les larmes aux yeux, prêts à dire au revoir… "jusqu'à notre prochaine rencontre".
