List 5 topics you can talk on for an hour without preparing any material.
I was tagged by @bunny-banana - thank you!
1. 19th century fashion. How it changed over time, the various layers and garments, how the industrial revolution changed manufacturing, the disappearance of regional fashions... God, Common Misconceptions alone would take more than an hour.
2. Detectorists. Beautiful, warm sitcom that explores friendship, disappointment, history, the relationship between people and landscapes. There's a very subtle mysticism all the way through and the music (by The Unthanks and Johnny Flynn) is glorious.
3. Sasha Regan's all-male Gilbert & Sullivan productions. They are SO GOOD OMG. Absolutely magical pieces of theatre: fluid, poignant, beautifully staged, very funny, very queer, gorgeously sung.
4. Fin-de-siècle gothic horror. Go on, ask me about invasion narratives, hypocrisy, and homosexuality in Dracula/ The Picture of Dorian Gray/ Jekyll & Hyde. I actually did an off-the-cuff mini lecture about queerness in Dracula once when we were doing a New Year's Eve party on zoom in 2020 as a forfeit. But I was pissed as a newt so I don't remember any of it.
5. Various poems by Philip Larkin - most specifically Church Going, An Arundel Tomb, and First Sight

Sasha Regan's All-Male H.M.S. Pinafore
A year ago, I went to Wilton's Music Hall in London to watch what would turn out to be my favorite Gilbert & Sullivan production ever, and in fact, my favorite show out of every production I attended during my semester abroad. I want to share my thoughts about this production with the rest of G&S Tumblr (however many of us there are!)
Tumblr media
Gaily tripping, lightly skipping....
This production is a revival; Sasha Regan’s all-male company has done Pinafore several times before. (They’ve also done The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, and Iolanthe.) Not knowing anything going in, I was worried that the men playing female roles would end up being presented as the butt of the joke, as is often the case with “man in a dress” humor. But it was earnestly and lovingly directed. It was certainly campy sometimes but it felt less like a parody and more like an honest celebration of homosexual joy, humor, and love.
Tumblr media
When I was a lad...
I had also assumed that the music for the female roles would be transposed down, but I was wrong again: the men playing women actually sang up in their high ranges. Not a single note of the score or line of dialogue was altered. In fact, the men in the company who played the “sisters, cousins, and aunts” also played the sailors in some numbers. They even switched back and forth in one scene: they began “Over the bright blue sea…” singing sweetly in their high ranges, and then suddenly leapt down some octaves for “Sir Joseph’s barge is seen…” Gender fluidity was easily achieved through changes in costume elements, body language, and mannerisms. One got the impression of a company of sailors with time to spare using what they had on board to entertain themselves.
Tumblr media
Sorry her lot, who loves too well...
Sam Kipling, the actor playing Josephine, had an amazingly stable high range, hitting the B at the end of Nevermind the why and wherefore with no problem. He carried himself gracefully and demurely, but his powerful voice and commanding presence were more than a match for his Ralph (played by Danny Becker).
Tumblr media
And excellent peppermint drops...
Another standout cast member was Scotty Armstrong, who played Little Buttercup. He was the first “reveal” of the show — the first transformation from masculine to feminine; when he jumped up to his falsetto, he welcomed the audience into this play AND let them know what they were in for. Out of all of the cast members, at all three of the show dates I attended, it was Scotty who earned the most laughs. And he sold Buttercup’s eleventh-hour plot twist that ushers in the happy ending.
Tumblr media
Seeing this genderfluidity and homosexuality in an operatic setting — especially one as hetero/cisnormative as that of the works of Gilbert and Sullivan — meant the world to me. The joy and playfulness of this production lasted long after the final note sounded, and the songs played over and over again in my heart for weeks to follow. What a welcome departure from tradition!

i think my meds have been making my already weird dreams even weirder because i cannot remember the last time i had a normal dream some highlights have been: -having someone over at my house and wanting to show them my signed copy of A Hat in Time, but every time i picked it up it would inexplicably morph into a copy of Travis Strikes Again for the Nintendo Switch. Except it wasn't even the game's actual cover because it had just been replaced with a picture of Mii Fighter Travis. Eventually I got so fed up that I managed to wake myself up out of pure spite -literally just the entirety of Flipping Death except instead of her very much canon husband Regan was married to a character from another game by the devs entirely -being lost in a hotel and being surrounded by these incredibly uncanny heads attached to really long necks(think the teacher from little nightmares 2) who would just watch me as I wandered the halls and parrot the things that people who had been lost previously had said with no meaning behind the words ok yeah maybe watching a full playthrough of ad infinitum at about 12:59 am had something to do with that one -that Double Fine released a Psychonauts tie-in novel that was just several hundred pages of Sasha Nein talking about why transphobes should die -that I was listening to a dub of Survival Street except every line from Hippy had been inexplicably cropped out and replaced with Chandlo Funkbun dialogue -that I read a Buzzfeed article titled "top 10 British people that deserved better" and #1 was "the one Hatsune Miku wouldn't talk to" -that someone got in legal trouble because they were roleplaying as Irma from Survival Street in the reviews sections of random Amazon products -That I wrote a fanfiction on AO3 where I shipped Penny Doewood from Flipping Death and Mariska from Lollipop Chainsaw and it got so popular that the website had to be shut down for 3 days
and one from last year or so where @eviltoxicmosssauce gained the ability to legally change my name to whatever he wanted and then changed it to like. pissballs or something except then he couldn't change it back so my name was pissballs for the rest of the dream

hi hi, hope you're having a good day.
just out of curiosity, is the sim in your most recent post based off of Alexandra Jarvis from Selling the OC on Netflix? she looks really similar haha
LOVE your blog btw <3
hello @kimorasimz, my day is great thanks, hope yours is also well.
she is not, i'll be honest i have no idea who that is lol. the last reality show i watched was tiger king. she's inspired by bridget regan (in her dottie underwood/sasha cooper roles) who i think is one of the most naturally beautiful women on the planet ♡
