I am posting this at 6am so I have no clue how coherent I'm gonna be

I made a Sonic AU! It's an au based off the same genre as Sonic and the Black Knight, and Sonic and the Seven Rings. A storybook game au, if that particular series of games had continued. I call it Sonic and the Golden Staff (or SatGS for tagging purposes). It's probably easy to see that it is based off the Chinese story of Sun Wukong and his Journey to the West.

Story wise, I have just a basic synopsis that goes like this: Sonic once again gets summoned into a storybook world, but this time, he's not the only one. Knuckles and Shadow join him, as the monk Tang Sanzang made a summons for three heroes. Sun Wukong and his friends have mysteriously disappeared! And Tang needs the help of the blue blur and companions to complete the Journey and find the missing Monkey King!

With Sun Wukong missing, Sonic takes up the role of weilding his golden staff, the Ruyi Jingu Bang. Unlike how the headband works for Wukong, Sonic's headband is literally just for looks. So the monk can't really use it to manage Sonic's actions or speed. Sonic is just as much a wildcard as he usually is, but he wouldn't speed away and leave his friends behind to deal with their predicament.

Knuckles takes on the role of Sha Wujing, an aquatic demon known for his incredible strength. It's for this reason, and that Wujing is described as having bright red hair, that I put Knuckles in this role. To show a bit of that aquatic theming, I added fins to his arms and gave him a more fishlike tail. Honestly, I'm happiest with how Knuckles came out hvjivija

Shadow ends up in the role of Zhu Bajie, a pig-like demon who was once a general of Heaven, now fallen from grace. Bajie is mostly used as a joke character in the group, which I didn't want to do with Shadow, but there were other characteristics that I thought matched up. I also decided to go more with a boar-like influence of Shadow rather than pig-like, hence the tusks.

That's all I've really got for now. Admittedly, while I've consumed a lot of Moneky King content, I have yet to actually read Journey to the West. I plan to do so soon, which means some of my ideas for this au could shift and change at some point. But for now, have these colorful guys as I head off to work and try not to lose my sanity jvjvjbjjzjja

Tamaki was the perfect boyfriend. It was like he could read your mind- know exactly what you wanted before you knew you wanted it.

You needed to go shopping? Done, done, and done! He would even grab things you never put on your shopping list but desperately needed.

You thought Tamaki was just really intuitive. You thought it was just that he knew you so well.

Soft music played throughout the bar. It was a quiet night, with you and your friends being some of the only people there. It wasn’t a well-known place, so it wasn’t surprising that you were nearly alone, seated at a table near a window.

“So Tamaki couldn’t make it?” Nejire asked, downing a cocktail in seconds.

“Yeah,” you said, a little sadly, “His shift ran late today.”

“But you get to spend more time with us!” Nejire squealed, taking your hands in hers and squeezing tightly, “I’ve been trying to set something up for so long!”

She had? As far as you knew, you only ever saw Nejire at group hangouts. You can’t imagine that you’d missed any messages from her, even if her only contact to you was through Tamaki.

“Well, we’re all together now,” Mirio hiccuped. 

Mirio had gotten here before the both of you. He was several drinks in and he was not someone who could hold his alcohol.

He turned to you, “I’m surprised you and Tamaki aren’t married already.” 

“Yes, well,” you chuckled awkwardly, “We’re taking it slow.”

“You’re taking it slow,” Mirio countered with a laugh. He had made similar jokes before but Tamaki was always there to lead his best friend away, saying “Okay, okay, you’ve had enough to drink buddy.”

You almost let it slide. Almost.

“What do you mean? Does Tamaki want to marry me or something?”

“Does he want to marry you?” Mirio laughed, “He’s had your engagement ring picked out before you two started dating.”

You and Nejire stared at him. 

“You mean that… figuratively, right?” You asked quietly.

Mirio seemed to realize he had said the wrong thing, because he suddenly tried to change the topic, “Did either of you see last night’s Saturday Night Live?”

“Mirio,” you asked, trying to sound casual despite your pounding heart, ”How did Tamaki act before we started dating?”

“Well…” Mirio took another sip of his beer, “He was always over at your house, hanging out with you or whatever.”

Your heartbeat spiked. Tamaki had never come over to your house until a month after you had started dating.

“He had a lot of pictures of you on his phone, since you were, you know, friends before lovers or whatever.”

You thought the first time you met him was when he asked you on your first date. And you hated taking pictures.

What the hell was going on? Had Tamaki been…stalking you?

Cold fear was starting to settle in your veins and you were suddenly questioning everything. 

All those months of feeling like you weren’t alone, all those walks home where you felt eyes on the back of your head, all those feelings that you thought went away because you had a strong, heroic boyfriend… Was that because of him?

Nejire was usually kind of air-headed, but when she sensed something was wrong, she was quick to act and became serious fast. “Give me your phone.”

You put the password in and handed it over, still going over your entire relationship in your head.

Nejire searched for a second, then showed the screen to you, tapping on an app you hadn’t noticed before. It looked innocent enough- like a calculator app, but not one you remembered downloading.

“This is a tracker app,” Nejire explained, anger seeping through her words, “It tracks your location and sends all your texts to whoever it’s connected to. And I’m pretty sure that person is Tamaki.”

A chill ran down your spine. When had he done this to your phone? To you?

Mirio had passed out cold. Nejire turned to you, looking worried, “What are you going to do?”

“Whatever I have to,” you said softly, pulling out your wallet to pay for your drink.

Tamaki walked through the door, hanging his coat on the hanger and turning to go to the bedroom. To his surprise, the living room light clicked on, revealing you sitting in the recliner, looking three parts angry and one part terrified.

“What happened?” Tamaki asked nervously.

“Did you stalk me?” You demanded to know.

Tamaki froze. How had you figured it out? What was he supposed to say? 

“N-no, baby, I would never do that to you,” Tamaki soothed.

“Mir- someone told me that you went over to my house and had pictures of me on your phone… before we dated.”

“They’re lying!” Tamaki’s voice went up an octave, his face twisting in panic. He was never good in stressful situations. He never thought you would ever find out what he was like before your relationship. Or during, for that matter.

“What about the app on my phone?” You demanded.

“Baby, baby,” Tamaki put out his hands like he was approaching a wild beast, “I would never, ever do anything to hurt or scare you. I promise.”

You shook your head, “With all I’ve heard and with the app I found, I don’t think I can stay in this relationship,” you said, getting out of the chair and walking past Tamaki, “I’ve already got my stuff out of here. So we should go our separate wa-”

You stumbled forward when Tamaki threw himself to the ground, wrapping his arms around your legs. A loud wail cut through the quiet apartment’s air. It took you a second to realize Tamaki had buried his face into the back of your legs, wetting them with his tears.

You looked down at him, a mess of tears and snot, body wracked with sobs, big watery eyes staring up at you.

“Tamaki get off-”

“NO!” Tamaki screamed, “No no no no NO!”

“Wha-?”

“You can’t leave me. I’ve worked too hard and for too long. You can’t ever leave me. You can… you can stay here!” Tamaki let out a broken laugh, still sniffling as tears poured down his cheeks.

“Get off of me,” you tried to move your legs but it was no use, Tamaki wasn’t budging.

And his eyes had turned from tear-filled to furious.

got any thoughts on how craig as tolkien's best friend feels about stan? its pretty popular fanon that craig hates stan's ass, but what's your take on it?

Ooo I like this question.

Personally I think Craig hates the core Stan friend group - Stan (obviously,) Kyle, Cartman and Kenny, for all their bullshit they always get up to. I think the person he hates least in that group is Kenny (what with Kenny and Tolkien being on good enough terms to form the Ninja group together apparently) and the rest are like on an equal footing for him.

The thing that makes this messy is that it seems like the CATG vs SATG status quo has eroded over the shows lifespan, especially in recent years where they're all just hanging out with each other irrespective of their cliques. So you could argue that Craig's hostility has waned, really.

Buuuuuuuuut I admit I'm a sucker of CATG vs SATG I just am. I like how it is in a thematic way. We have SATG who are the crazy foreground and CATG who are the most down to earth background, yk? And how they play off with each other. Craig, Tolkien, Clyde and Tweek (cuz I'll include Tweek why not) are victims of the SATG'S antics, just regular kids subjected to their bullshit at one point in time, while Jimmy is also just a regular kid that I think took the safe route of being with the "normal" group.

Lol this is sooo much rambling to get to my point, I'm so sorry. Please know I write with a stolkien bias, but I'm trying my best for this to be platonic.

I like imagining scenarios where just how different Stan's life is from Tolkien's is apparent from how Craig reacts. For example, Craig and Tolkien hang out like at a diner having a normal lunch together and then suddenly Stan is by the window, covered in some slime or has some severed tentacles dangling over his shoulders, and you can see some looming threat casting a shadow over South Park behind him. But he's waving at Tolkien and smiling, because he just wanted to stop and say hi! And Tolkien waves back, yk, he's endeared by it, but there's Craig who is horrified and confused as to what shit Stan and his friends have gotten up to now, so Tolkien smiles a little awkwardly. Then Kyle runs by and snatches Stan so they can narrowly escape, and Tolkien and Craig continue their lunch.

Craig often talks to Tolkien about what exactly he sees in him, and when Tolkien describes it it just doesn't sound like the Stan he knows at all, and the back of his mind imagines SATG having some weird clone operation going on, lol, you never know!

But the truth is is that Tolkien does like the real Stan, and that his company is good for him. Craig sees that like when Tolkien and Stan have to seperate to go to their respective group's paths for that evening's big hangout plans, and how Tolkien looks back at Stan as they walk away, and when they do hang out, how much Tolkien brings Stan up with a smile.

He realizes it when all his anxieties over Tolkien living far away and his only friend nearby being Stan would mean Tolkien would potentially be in danger of the usual SATG bullshit, but then actually, it's not like that at all. That these two just play 40k and video games and do farm chores together. So...normal. The kind of friendship Tolkien needs. He has to give Stan that, at least.

Do I think Craig is like friends with Stan now, though? Hm. Not really. It's complicated. It's like, he's happy that Tolkien and Stan are friends because Tolkien is safe and happy, but he wants to be cautious. Like his hostility and doubt with Stan comes from a place of being protective over Tolkien. Everybody else can tell Tolkien to only think of Stan as this cool epic guy, but Craig wants to be the one to remind Tolkien how unpredictable he is, how stupid he can be, how he can always do better, etc, for his own sanity at least lol.

So I'd say Craig is more of a...optimistic skeptic that is this enigma of Stan Marsh. I hope that makes sense LOL this was a lot of word vomit I know.

SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH

Originally discovered in VOID 73, Oculus Argos has since been identified in over 680 voids post its identification by now renowned scientist, Dr Clipboard.

Although initially theorised to be a variation on the common but harmless spotted mushroom pox, vaccinations for the mushroom pox proved woefully ineffective during the infamous eye-pox epidemic of VOID 312. VOID 312 remains locked down to preserve the health and safety of wider VOID populations. Despite this, it is widely accepted to be the primary source of seasonal Oculus spores.

While theories over the origins of Oculus Argos are still widely disputed, one common theory amongst the medical science community is that the disease originated from notoriously dangerous and off-limits VOID 1. KNOW THE SIGNS

If you have come into contact with an entity exhibiting eyes all over their body, there is a chance you might have contracted Oculus Argos, so it is important to be aware of the signs. (1)

Oculus Argos presents in three identifiable stages (see figure 1 for reference). Being able to identify these as early as possible is vital for reversal of they symptoms.

STAGE 1: eyes only on hands and arms. There will be minor itching and pain when touched.

STAGE 2: Oculus Argos spreads to the legs and some parts of the torso. Itching recedes, offering moderate relief, only to be replaced by headaches, fever and moderate to severe pain.

STAGE 3: eyes encompass the entire body. All previous symptoms either clear or worsen. Mortality rate us high in this stage, with brief relief often being followed by sharp return of all symptoms before total failure.

STAYING SAFE

So, when do you need to be cautious?

Well, Oculus Argos spreads through spores that only evolved to survive in colder conditions. In the summer or if your VOID is always warm, then good news! You won't have to worry even if you do come across an entity showing the eyes that characterise this disease.

But in the winter, or in perpetually cold VOIDs you should never approach sufferers of Oculus Argos unless absolutely necessary. If the patient is someone you know, strongly encourage them to apply their protective cream to limit spore production, and always be sure to never breathe the air around them.

Spore production is at its height in each patient from the duration of stage 2 through to the stabilisation (or death) of stage 3. Never approach entities of this stage as they are at their most contagious.

Try to encourage the entity to check themselves into The Pit (see page 3 for details). If the entity is being particularly stubborn and refusing to take the reasonable course of action to sign themselves up for a quarantine, be sure to call in to a VOID call centre and place a report. One of our Oculus Argos specialised enforcers will come and set the situation to rights. (4)

Mortality rates in Oculus Argos skyrocket to 56% after stage 2, so our priority here at the VOID Citizens Care Administration will always be to preserve the wellbeing of our healthy citizens first!

Wow, what shining reviews! If there was anything to prove our faith in V.O.I.D, this is certainly it.

So my thoughts about SxSG?

Spoilers under cut

Mostly positive. Clearly, this was fan service with all the little call back to things, like talking about the fake Emerald from SA2 and how Big even notes that the same emerald color was his lucky charm in SA1. The core gameplay is fun...I just don't know how I feel about all of Shadow's upgrades. The first few are fine, but things like Doom Surf and Morph make the game feel awkward. I'm sure 80% of my deaths in the game are a result of Doom Morph shenanigans.

I oddly liked exploring Shadow's white space, which brought back memories to all the Gaia Gates in Sonic Unleashed. It's satisfying to find things. The stages are all gorgeous and dun to play. I think I'm most impressed by Kingdom Valley, how faithful it was to the original while adapting the new mechanics to it. Feels like a real definitive addition. And Rail Canyon, just, *chef's kiss* so nice to have Sonic Heroes satge rep that ISN'T Seaside Hill for once.

This is definitely the most fun I had with a main line Sonic game in a long time. However...I do have my gripes with it.

One is some of the remixes, or lack thereof. With the first generations and even Sonic Colors Ultimate, the original music got fantastic remixes. And here I feel is why I set my expectations high, too high it seems. Don't get me wrong, most are good. But Kingdom Valley doesn't sound much different from the orignial in Act 1. And Supporting Me...while it's mixed nicely, I'm disappointed by the lack of vocals, as I feel they are an important part of the song and why I find it so epic. But the most agregous offense was What I'm Made Of. They changed literally nothing. They tried to pass it off as a new mix as there are some minor differences from the original version, such as a more pronounced baseline, but they ripped it straight from a 2007 soundtrack. But you can't hear much of these differences during the boss battle because the song is nearly drowned out by the action.

Another gripe I have is Sonic Frontiers having a stage representation in Shadow's story despite him not being in that game. I looked into and I'm in agreement with the opinion of it was easier to just reuse assets from the most recent Sonic game than to try to craft a new stage from scrapped that would have been based on an ShTH stage. Yes, the game all about Shadow and Black Doom, it does not in fact have a ShTH stage, and I can't wrap my mind around that decision. I call that laziness. To their credit, they did put each stage song from that game as unlockable BGM, so I think they were aware of this fuck up. But really it wouldn't raise too much of an eyebrow at Chaos Island's inclusion of maybe they had Black Comet as the final stage unstead of... *sigh* Radical Highway yet again. Like I love Radical Highway but it's obvious SEGA is treating it like Shadow's version of Green Hill. I feel it would have been better if it was added as a bonus stage rather than the final.

It's also VERY STRANGE to me that they had a stage from Sonic Forces, but they didn't include a boss fight with Infinite like what?

Okay, I know it looks like my complaints outweigh my compliments but I swear it's unintentional. I just can write down my thoughts with my complaints versus what I love. Cause my love just goes DJFHFHEIIZKDKSKS in my brain lol.
