In case you missed it, a former designer from SEGA, Satoshi Okano has been revealing some concept artwork from Sonic Adventure and various other games, and even revealed the full design of a character that was hidden in Speed Highway.
This is my take on that Spider woman, apologies it's a bit eye strain-y. Not quite sure why my mind went neon raver.
She did have her original legs, then tights before settling on hairy legs that look like those fluffy leg warmers!

MAN. Satoshi Okano's art of Sonic is just astounding. He did the "Sonic on skateboard" and "DJ Sonic" pieces which were lined and coloured by Uekawa but this specific artwork of Sonic singing with a mic was never given the same treatment.

Satoshi Okano recently posted his concepts for the Spider Girl easter egg in Sonic Adventure amongst his Samba De Amigo art. I cleaned up the pic and colored my interpretation
Interestingly, I have a feeling this was a later "censored" concept compared to the CG render used for the poster
Wonder if he still has the model...

So for whatever reason it looks like I totally forgot to post the finished piece I made for Sonic’s 32nd anniversary back in June 😅
Had so much fun trying my hand at all these different art styles from the incredible artists that have worked on the series over the past 3 decades! ☺️
Artist inspirations from top left to bottom right:
Naoto Oshima (Original JP design)
Greg Martin (Classic NA design)
Studio Junio (Sonic CD opening animation)
DiC Animation
Satoshi Okano (Sega Saturn)
Yuji Uekawa (Sonic Adventure)
Sonic X
Sonic Boom
Tyson Hesse (Movie Sonic)
Sega/Marza Animation (Modern 3D Sonic)
Poster inspiration is probably obvious 😉

Had started following you since I stumbled upon that ring-on-the-water picture from Twitter and then your DJMix character stuff; I wondered what were the main inspirations you got for your artwork style. I can tell that you got a taste for SEGA and Y2K stuff (its in the description lol), but thought on asking what were the games in particular that inspired you the most for this.
I have a lot of inspirations for my current styles, most from (as you probably guessed) Sega games! Yuji Uekawa's Sonic Adventure era art, Satoshi Okano's artwork (fantastic stuff btw), NiNO's Puyo Puyo Fever 2 art, Akira Toriyama, Bust a Groove's art, Cool Cool Toon's art and many MANY Y2K art and graphic design.
I was heavily inspired by BEMANI's games like beatmania IIDX and DDR when making the djMIX crew! J.Tony, for example, is heavily based on Beat from Jet Set Radio Future and one of the DJs from beatmania IIDX!
There's so much more, but we'd be here all day LMAO.
Hope this answers the question! And thank you for asking!! <3

The Tokyo Toilet
Book review:
Imagine being collaterally photographed by tourists as you exit a public toilet. Such are the perils of the stunning revitalisation of 17 such amenities in Shibuya, Tokyo. Each facility in The Tokyo Toilet is visually striking with unique designs including one composed of transparent partitions that transition to opaque when occupied.
From July 2020 through until March 2023, one by one, 17 public toilets completed transformations into new, barrier free buildings of bespoke, avant garde design. The instigator, or officially the project initiator and sponsor, being Koji Yanai, a scion of the apparel empire that includes Uniqlo. Driven by the vision of inclusiveness, it was Yanai's goal to supplant the negative impression of public toilets as dirty and smelly, instead as beautiful, safe places accessible to all. The Tokyo Toilet was the product of 16 creative teams and cooperation between several large stakeholder bodies.
Expectedly, the bulk of the book is dedicated to each of the toilet blocks. Large, full-page photography over multiple pages are accompanied by non-parallel bilingual text, first in Japanese then in English. A supplementary section has 30 pages of drawings and specifications with scale technical diagrams, labelled dimensions and perspectives. Reflections from each of the major stakeholders are present. The private, philanthropic organisation The Nippon Foundation oversaw the project. Shibuya Ward handles the ongoing maintenance, which includes three daily cleans by uniformed workers emblazoned with the project logo. TOTO provided the bathroom equipment supplies. Daiwa Lifenext constructed of all the facilities. There are no shortage of famous further attached names; Daido Moriyama contributed early photography, Tadao Ando and Kengo Kuma are amongst the contributing architects.
Some of the project setbacks are interesting. Despite the obvious beauty of the refurbished toilets and polite Japanese society, graffiti and vandalism did occur. This was in fact, directly causative to the production of the now celebrated film Perfect Days by Wim Wenders. Yanai and creative director, Takuma Takasaki set about changing the problematic mindset of toilet disownership with a film that would foster a sense societal of pride in the facilities. Another problem, perhaps not evident from this book, was the discovery that Shigeru Ban's flagship transparent panel toilets were not clouding over fast enough during winter cold weather - oops. Temporary rectification was a matter of making the glass panels permanently opaque but as of May 2024 the original transparency function has been restored and will stay until at least mid October.

Simple sketches by Satoshi Okano of a character they called Fly The Vampire, trying to come up with a more "scary" character. This concept is similar to a character they made for 'Astro Go! Go!' - a Super Famicom game in 1994.

Thinking of this interview with Satoshi Okano talking about how New York hip hop and street culture influenced his contributions to Sonic's redesign for the Adventure era, name-dropping groups like RUN-DMC, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest.
