I love how Rick is the only man Michonne happily lets take over. He’s the only one she’ll ever defer to and trust to go with his way over her own. It’s why she never even second-guessed his escape plan. But then, y'all, Rick's getaway plan threw Michonne and me for a loop😢...

So once he’s alone in the apartment, Rick gets right to work laying out everything he needs for this getaway plan. I like how he always keeps all his secrets in the couch cushions. And both times the stuff he has inside the couch has so much to do with Michonne.

Rick is thorough with it laying everything out like paddles, wire, and a consignee jacket, going over maps, writing out stuff, and drinking to numb the fact that he’s also making a plan that means he may never see Michonne again after this. 😢 But I love this scene of seeing him so determined to figure out how to save his wife and get her safely home.

Then we see Michonne sitting at lunchtime with the consignees and it is a drab set up I must say. Like the area was giving prison yard. And it makes me sad to think this is how Rick spent so many lonely lunches for years.

As Michonne eats, she sees Rick coming over in his CRM uniform, which is all she’s seen him wearing thus far. I feel like it illustrates how the CRM has a constant hold on him.

Since Richonne can always communicate without words Michonne immediately knows Rick is coming over here to give her a note.

She puts her plate away and then casually walks pass him as he slips a note in her hand and of course, they do the pass off smoothly because they’re just a well-oiled machine like that. 👌🏽

Part of me was like wouldn’t it sorta be odder to the other soldiers if the two don’t acknowledge each other at all when they pass each other considering their story is she saved Rick from an attack? But they’re not taking any chances I guess. And the way Richonne can’t be subtle about each other it’s probably for the best they just walk on by. 🙂

When Rick walks off after passing the note he takes a breath and even looks teary because if all goes according to his plan that really was his last time being able to see and feel his wife - another final hand moment like how their last real moment side-by-side in TWD was a hand moment. 🥺

I know right now Rick thinks this is for the best but it also has to be so painful for him knowing that he’s about to be without her again. And knowing Michonne doesn’t even know that this technically would be their last moment together is just...☹️😢

Michonne reads the letter as we hear Rick’s fine voice say what’s inside it. He starts by saying, “This is it, tonight. We gotta move fast.” And I love Michonne’s little smile as she reads that. She fully trusts Rick to get them out of here and so she’s ready and willing to follow his lead with this…which is why what comes next is so heartbreaking.

But first, we see everything Rick did to ensure Michonne would have the smoothest escape possible. It is so sweet that despite Michonne being super capable, Rick still wanted to take care of everything he possibly could for her. 😊 That’s a good man, Savannah, a good man. 👏🏽

As Rick’s walking in a tunnel he sees writing on the floor that says ‘Tell them I’m sorry I lied’ and it’s very intentional showing that because I feel like that is essentially what Rick will want Michonne to tell Judith (and RJ) after he lied to get Michonne out of this place.

Also, I once again need to note - Rick in all-black. ❤️‍🔥😋

It’s interesting because while those words written on the ground should have been a clear sign to us viewers that a lie is afoot right now, eye fully believed Rick was really intending to escape with Michonne with this plan. So Michonne and I were very caught off guard when that wasn’t the case. 

Rick tells Michonne all the details of where to go and what to do to escape, laying it out step by step to make it as easy as possible, and she’s following what the letter says.

And then my favorite part of this letter moment arrives when he says, “I love you.” 😍 Rick is gonna earn that Ultimate Loverboy title every chance he gets. It’s also sweet cuz he knows this could be one of the last times he gets to tell her. ☹️

I love that he always wants to be sure that if nothing else she knows he loves her. While his decisions right now are going to upset Michonne (and me 🙋🏽‍♀️), it is all being done because of how much he loves her.

And then I absolutely adore Michonne’s response to reading her husband say I love you in the letter. The sweetest. 🥰And that smile was an 'I love you back' from Michonne. Again, it really is so clear that he makes her feel so safe and loved and like they can truly pull this off together.

(Side note: I love the softening of Michonne over the seasons in TWD and that Rick brought out her softest side. Like it makes so much sense that she had a rougher exterior when she was introduced in season 3 because being a woman in that world is so dangerous, especially a woman traveling alone for a long period of time. I can legitimately name about 8 woman characters in TWD who were SA'ed or at risk of that. and so as women, it probably feels like you have to hide any part of yourself that is softer just to stay safe. But as each season progressed, Michonne got to tap back into that part of her, especially as she found a true safe space in Rick. She knows how to be fierce and intimidating when she needs to be but with Rick her heart just melts like when she reads his letter with the escape plan and she sees that he wrote I love you)

Then I absolutely love the cute flirty delivery of Rick saying “...and I left you a little something” as they then do a perfect cut to Michonne slicing a walker with her katana. 👏🏽

Y’all, of course, Rick 'Man of the Year' Grimes would make sure Michonne didn’t leave here without her signature sword. The best. 😊

Once again I love Michonne’s proud smile as she’s about to take out more walkers only to realize Rick has already got it covered and tied them up for her. The world might be riddled with dead but chivalry is alive and well cuz of that man Rick Grimes. 👌🏽

And I’ll forever appreciate that Rick never treated Michonne like a weapon with a weapon. As the woman he values, he wants to take it upon himself to handle everything to make her escape and travel a smooth and successful process.

Rick’s also walking through the same spots Michonne is and it was clever to have his scenes intercut with Michonne’s because they really had me fooled, thinking they were both headed to the getaway boat - not realizing all his scenes are actually occurring ahead of time as he sets everything up for Michonne’s escape.

Normally I would be suspicious that something is up, especially cuz when is a plan ever that smooth but idk, me and Michonne just really believe in Rick Grimes i guess, so like her, I didn’t question anything lol.

I thought the complications might come once they got to the boat and tried to escape together or something, however Rick had us in for a sad surprise.

I honestly feel like had this getaway plan been given to Michonne by anyone other than Rick, her intuition would have sounded a few more alarms that maybe something is suspect with the plan. It was so smooth to get out, and I know part of it is because Rick sweetly made sure Michonne could walk right through with little to no hurdles but with how easy it seemed, Michonne might have been inclined to wonder how it could be this smooth to escape and yet Rick was trapped for years.

Cuz the way her getaway was going, it was looking like Rick should've been able to escape in time to be there for RJ’s birth lol. But Michonne trusted his plan wholeheartedly because she wholeheartedly loves and trust Rick more than anyone. That’s another reason why it’s gotta be so hurtful knowing that he knew she’d trust his lead and he used that to try to get her to leave alone. 😞

But still, I really like this whole escape scene and the intercut between the two. It felt like the way an escape scene should be executed in an epic love story because it was all still so rooted in Richonne’s love. And the parallel shots of their silhouetted selves walking through the tunnels with red and blue light were nice.

So then Michonne makes it to the designated destination and seeing her smile in anticipation to see Rick makes me so sad rewatching and knowing he’s not coming.

She was really looking forward to reuniting with Rick here and heading home together. Her smile was giving....

But then that happiness just gets crushed. 😔

She calls out for Rick but he’s nowhere in sight. She looks suspicious when she notices a walker in a consignee jacket, which little does she know Rick planted there to fake her death.

Then, as she searches through the boat she finds another letter that just makes my heart break. 💔

Rick's letter says, “I’m not coming. And if you don’t go, you’ll never get away and we both die here.” It’s painful knowing he’s basically like 'I’m the only one that should die here.'

Then I like that he mentions getting Michonne back to their daughter specifically when he writes, “The only way to get you back to Judith is that I stay here to make sure.”

You can hear the sadness in the way Rick is talking out what’s in the letter, he knows Judith needs her mom and so even tho he needs Michonne too he’ll always try to choose his kids needing Michonne above himself. And then you really feel his emotions as he tells Michonne, “I love you forever.” 🥺

First of all; I absolutely love that he wrote that to her and that we now get to add Rick saying “I love you forever” to the many romantic things he’s told Michonne. It’s so heartwarmingly worded for him to want her to know that while this is essentially goodbye he will forever be in love with her even as they're apart.

Then the most problematic part of the letter is Rick saying “If you love me, you’ll go.” 😓 And for so many reasons...

I know Rick means well but it’s weaponizing love to say something like that. He knows she loves him. He knows how hard it would be for her to leave him here hence why he had to lie to even get her to go along with the plan in the first place. And now he’s essentially attempting to make her feel like she doesn’t love him if she stays. When deep down Rick knows full well Michonne doesn’t leave people behind let alone the love of her life.

And if the roles were reversed Rick would never just leave her someplace that has her clearly trapped and miserable. But it’s been a minute, so maybe Rick got a little foggy on just how much he and Michonne are cut from the same cloth which means she would never leave him either.

And just the 'if' gets to me cuz there is no if, Richard. That’s exactly why she can’t go. Because she loves him.

Saying that line puts Michonne in an unfair position. She either goes back home, just having to live with the knowledge that Rick is out there and hurting and her kids will never get to meet their dad who is alive and she’ll never even get to tell Rick about his son. Or she stays and has it be deemed a lack of love for staying. When again it’s the ultimate act of love for her to stay in this place and still fight for Rick even when he doesn’t think he’s worth fighting for.

I remember one of my thoughts when I first heard this letter was "What did Rick want Michonne to tell Judith?…like should she say 'yeah, I found your dad. He’s alive but he’s never coming home so let’s just move on and live our lives??'" That was never gonna be an option. But I guess he’d want her to tell Judith and RJ what he saw in the tunnel - “I’m sorry I lied.”

I also had this moment of wondering - why does Rick seem to think leaving him or moving on from him is so doable? And then it hit me that it might be because he’s had it happen before. 🥺

He was in a coma for just a few months and by the time he saw Lori again she was pregnant with his best friend's baby and his best friend was fully playing house with his wife and son.

But Michonne cannot be compared to the wife and BFF of Christmas past.

No, now Rick has a wife and bff rolled into one who hasn’t moved on from him for almost 8 years so she’s def not about to move on from him now. 

It’s almost like Rick doesn’t think this relationship is an equal win. An equal gift. He understandably feels extremely lucky that a gem like Michonne is his wife. She’s the ultimate treasure to him and brings his life so much value. It’s harder for it to hit him that he is a special treasured gift to Michonne too. That she needs him and feels safest with him and can’t ever move on from him the same way he feels about her.

Plus, this isn’t just a wife's mission, it’s a mother's mission for Michonne. She’s doing this for her kids too. Which takes this to a whole other level. What Rick doesn’t know is when he tells her to go, Michonne also hears the voice of their sweet daughter saying mom go get him and bring him home.

She hears the adorable voice of RJ confirming that Michonne would do anything for them and their dad.

And she hears Carl on his deathbed saying she has to be strong for Rick and Judith.

That’s running through her head always I’m sure and motivating sacrificing time with her kids to bring their father home. She’s not letting her kids down.

When Rick tried to get her to leave without him he didn’t just get in the way of the mission she has for herself and for him but for their kids and that’s when you’re going to get a pissed Michonne because now you’re interfering with what the kids need which is both their parents.

And no one stops this mother from doing what needs to be done for her kids, not even Rick. It reminds me of The Distance and how that also was Michonne on a mission to provide what her kids needed.

So it was already so sad to see Michonne alone realizing she’d essentially been duped into leaving without Rick after trusting him and his plan wholeheartedly - but then to see her have to be confronted with this idea that Rick thinks the way she can best show her love is just to leave him behind was just such an added layer of painful.

Michonne makes my heart hurt seeing how sad this all is making her. She truly looks shocked, hurt, and heartbroken over this. And understandably so. After everything she’s been through there’s no way it ends like this.

The acting Danai does is great at this moment as all Michonne can do is stand teary-eyed and repeatedly shake her head with silent bewilderment that Rick would even pull something like this when the Rick she knew would never.

I think something important to note is that while Michonne is the first time Rick’s had a wife who can protect herself, Rick still absolutely feels like it is his job to protect her. Like yes her competence and capability means he can rely on her and lean on her more than his former partner but that doesn’t mean Rick ever would take a backseat to being his wife’s protector. He still wants to keep Michonne safe just as fiercely as had she been someone more defenseless. 

We see this throughout the main series in the way Rick always looks out for and checks on Michonne and panics whenever he thinks she’s in danger.

Again, she’s not a weapon with a weapon to him. He loves and respects that Michonne is strong and a leader, and he also knows that doesn’t mean she’s incapable of being harmed, especially around the CRM. So it is one of his biggest goals to protect her and keep her alive even if she’s capable of doing that herself. As competent as Michonne is, she does need him and feels most safe with him and Rick takes that seriously. 

The way it caused conflict in TOWL tho is Rick became so hyper-focused on protecting her that he almost started to treat Michonne like a fragile sculpture that could break at any moment and he started acting like it was only up to him to keep the sculpture intact even if it means leaving her out of the loop and breaking her heart. Which seeing him pull this just had me like...

Rick knows Michonne is strong but he stopped believing that her strength and his strength and especially their strength together could be a good thing - it just makes them a target hence his actions that were so steeped in fear.

It’s like he overcorrected and while many just see Michonne as some powerful force rather than a person with vulnerabilities, Rick started mainly seeing her as potential vulnerable prey for the CRM rather than a person who also should have a say in how the two of them proceed.

With Rick's beautiful letters that he’d been writing to Michonne the whole time he'd been away, it’s almost like in an innocent way he got used to one-sided communication with his wife. But when Michonne reenters his life he has to relearn that this relationship is very much a two-way street where she can now weigh in and step in as well and he can't make executive decisions like this for her. Just like Rick...

And her choice is him and their family.

But also thinking about how he’ll later admit how scared he was seeing her return into his life, it hits my heart because I think part of Rick felt scared because he doesn’t think he’s still the same man who could protect her like before. He no longer fully believes he’s the fighter he knows she fell in love with. So he’s still going to try to save her of course, but he's doing so by sending her away rather than figuring out how to break away with her.

Fortunately, Michonne has enough belief for the both of them. And since Michonne went on this mission to find her Rick, she can’t possibly go home because the job is not finished. She found Rick but not her Rick yet, and so she knows she has to stay. And she also has to give Rick a piece of her mind without even saying a word. 👌🏽😅

so basically overall steve was really HATING working at Hogan's but June was just doing really well in general (enough to be the main earner in the household essentially so steve was able to quit his job)

june attempted to wingwoman raj again because things didnt really work out with kamala... LMAO

on friday she took a day off and decided to go for a job interview to join an in-house legal team

when she got home it was extra bad as well because she had to face steve (and the kids) and it made he realise how lucky she had it, cuz steve also got her some champagne to celebrate her new job ☠😂

so... june confessed and told steve about what happened, and ngl even I was suprised he took it so well and was understanding + I think he appreciated she told him right away

We are continuing the heartbreak with this one fellas...! 🥲 So without further ado, let's discuss Mission 100, shall we...?

In this chapter, we see exactly what happened to Martha before she is rescued at the end of Mission 99, and it is not a pretty sight in the slightest... 😔 A tank fires in her direction, but she survived it because...:

After that, Martha sees that some of her friends/comrades didn't survive the blast like she did, and then we cut to probably one of the most disturbing I've seen in this manga:

Moving on, Martha witnesses what that bastard did just before another tank fires at the trenches and everyone who isn't dead is told to retreat into the forest... We then see Martha wandering around the forest looking for her group...:

...She falls into the river and when she comes to, she's in the house that we saw her in the end of Mission 99 and she's greeted by a goodest good boy named Baron and an old woman named Mrs. Anabel...:

I don't know if she's connected to anyone or not, but regardless, she and Baron saved Martha's and that's what's really important...!

Martha asks Mrs. Anabel about her clothes and she tells Martha that she threw them away and can use her daughter's clothes because...:

What Martha says at the bottom of this page makes me wanna cry... It just makes me think how heartbreaking it is that there are people out there who can't believe or understand why someone would take care of/help out someone considered their "enemy"... 😔 And sadly, it's because of the stupid "Us vs. Them" propaganda that was shoved down their throats for years that makes people think/feel this way...

Moving on, Mrs. Anabel tells Martha about the village that she's in and that it's full of refugees who have lost their homes due to the war. Martha then laments that all she wants to do is to go home, so...:

Man, the way Martha looks on the bottom panel just makes me wanna give her a hug so bad... 💔😢💔

After she sneaks out, Martha notices that the stars in Westalis' skies are the same as the ones in Ostania (which almost made me cry) and after walking for a bit, she decided to take a break... While resting, Martha sees all of the things that Mrs. Anabel packed for her (some money, bread to eat and a scarf that Mrs. Anabel was knitting), but when she looks at the map the has "Go home" written on it, this happened...:

And that was Mission 100, I can't believe that we finally made to the big 100...! 👍

All this sadness is KILLING ME, but I love it at the same time...!! 🥲👍 I have no clue what Endo has in store for us in Mission 101, but I'm excited and scared of what possible horrors this man is gonna bring us next...! 😰

Jokes aside, I truly believe that Endo is one of the best mangaka I've ever seen...! His writing for Spy × Family is beautiful and haunting at times, while also being goofy and insane...!! 😆 He just knows how to strike a perfect balance in my opinion, and I wouldn't have it any other way...!! 😁

Thoughts on HOtD s2 ep 1 🎤?

Oh boy do I! Thanks for asking, I love having an opportunity to shout into the void on the internet.

I might do a rewatch later this week to try to pick up on additional details, but I’ll start with my initial reactions from last night.

Spoilers for S2E1, obviously.

Love the new intro. The bloodline intro was important in S1 which was setting up the different claims/factions, but there won’t be much more of that in S2. The tapestry is very medieval, and I’m here for it. I suspect they’ll change the intro every episode to reflect events as they occur. Makes me wonder if the E2 intro will have Blood and Cheese. 😬

The scenes at Winterfell/the Wall not only introduce Cregan, but also offer some fan-service for OG Stark fans. It also reminds us of the prophecy aspect that the show is taking. Cregan and Jace had a great dynamic, but I wonder if they’ll have any opportunity to get together again. In F&B, Jace never returns North again, and Cregan doesn’t come south until the fighting is over. But the show might have Cregan participate in battles earlier so they don’t waste his actor.

Speaking of Jace: I’m really impressed with Harry so far! His scene with Rhaenyra made me want to cry, because you can sense how hard Jace was trying to hold it together. 😢 On a more lighthearted note, I like that Harry listened to the feedback about his bad posture in S1. 😅 He was holding himself really tall and regally this episode.

Omigod, Rhaenyra. Emma only had four words of dialogue this episode and they KILLED all their scenes. The scene where Rhaenyra finds the wing and cloak made me want to cry too. And that look she gave Jace when he returned to Dragonstone, like she wanted to comfort him while she’s trying not to break down… 😭

The Daemon and Rhaenys argument foreshadows how Daemon chafes against 100% listening to Rhaenyra as his queen. Spoilers, leaks, and trailers indicate that he and Rhaenyra are going to have a lot of friction, and soon. As a fic writer, I appreciate this scene for validating my headcanon that Rhaenys is the older cousin who does not let Daemon brattily boss her around.

Corlys and Alyn. I’m not entirely sure what the show is doing with the Hull boys. Their interaction was ambiguous: is Corlys their father or not? Or is Alyn just a random sailor who saved Corlys? He’s definitely too old to pass for Laenor’s supposed son.

I was very touched by how deeply Corlys cared for Luke. It contrasts with Rhaenys, who didn’t treat the boys as her grandkids; Corlys seems to have actually adopted them in his heart. I wonder if Corlys will turn his attention toward Joffrey, or if his affection was for Luke specifically. In the book, Corlys passes over Joffrey as heir in favor of the Hull boys, but show!Corlys is very different from book!Corlys.

Speaking of Joffrey, I miss S1 Joffrey’s adorable curls. But S2 Joffrey is also very cute, and he might actually get speaking lines this season. But the moment when he threw the toy (which might have been Luke’s) into the pyre… 😭

Alicole is…interesting. There was setup in S1 implying they had underlying feelings, and I don’t think it’s crazy they eventually acted on those feelings. But I question the writing/directing decision to insert the Alicole scenes for what seems to be comedic effect. The second scene, during B&C, is the more egregious one. The first scene felt very sudden.

I’m also side-eyeing the director’s commentary in the “House that Dragons Built” documentary where he described Alicent’s marriage as “loving but not romantic or physical for a long time.”

LOVING? 🤨 Really not the best word. Sure, there was some kind of affection between Alicent and Viserys, and she took her caretaking duties seriously. But “loving”? Nah.

Aegon got a huge character/writing upgrade from S1. “Good dad Aegon” girlies win (so far). I loved TGC’s BTS commentary about how Aegon enables his kids and competes with them to cause mischief. Again, the fic writer in me feels validated. I just wish we actually got to see Tyland give Jaehaerys a pony ride. 🤭

The brief glimpse of Aegon and Helaena’s marriage is interesting. He cares about her (tries to reassure her about the dragons) but there’s no romantic spark at all. And like everyone else, Aegon doesn’t really know what to do about Helaena’s prophecies, which sound like insane mutterings to people in-universe. We the audience are shouting for him to listen to her, but TBH most of us wouldn’t listen to an IRL Helaena either.

Aegon on the throne was a surprisingly comedic scene with more character development. He’s not very good at politicking (I would’ve told him to give the blacksmiths partial payment upfront, not the whole thing), but he’s trying, and he is willing to stand up to Otto. Again, I feel validated with my depiction of Lavender!Aegon.

Also…HUGH? 👀👀👀 Sympathetic Hugh Hammer will be interesting.

Oh boy, Larys is going to be fun this season. He’s already starting to try digging his claws into Aegon, but based on cast interviews, he might not be as successful as he hopes. And even though people are joking about it, I don’t think he’s going the feet route with Aegon.

Mysaria is getting much less culpability in B&C than in the book, but I’m fine with it. It’s consistent with her S1 character. She’s fed up with the royals (mostly Daemon, now Otto too) and just wants to do her own thing with social justice while making some money.

Alright, now for the B&C analysis.

They don’t have Daemon explicitly say it, but it’s strongly implied he wants B&C to kill “a son” even if they can’t get Aemond. It’s a departure from the book where B&C explicitly target Helaena’s kids and have a more methodical plan where they watch her routine for several days so they can set a trap. In the show, I think B&C repeat the phrase “a son for a son,” so that was probably part of Daemon’s orders. But the only sons that are possible targets are Aemond, Aegon, and Jaehaerys. Aemond is explicitly the primary target. B&C walk past Aegon without even discussing or trying anything, though to be fair he has friends and guards. So by process of elimination, it seems B&C’s backup plan/directive was always to kill Jaehaerys if they can’t kill Aemond.

(Speaking of Aemond, he didn’t leave a huge impression on me this episode. 🙁 He just didn’t get that much screentime, I guess. But I did like that Aegon advocated for Aemond having a seat at Small Council. #Targbros)

B&C have a comedic bit going on while they sneak through the castle, which seems not entirely appropriate. I also think they could’ve cut down a lot of their sneaking sequence in favor of more Helaena & kids screentime, which would’ve made the scene more impactful.

The bit with the dog was totally unnecessary. Someone who kicks a dog is automatically evil, but we would’ve gotten that message anyway when B&C kill Jaehaerys. Again, the dog seems to have been inserted for a sort of comedic effect, which doesn’t really belong here.

I read an article where Ryan Condal said they cut Maelor (for now?) because all the little kids have to be younger in this timeline. TBH they could’ve made it work with an infant Maelor who was offscreen in S1 because, you know, he’s a baby busy napping and stuff. They could’ve adapted B&C much closer to the book with a baby Maelor.

The choice Helaena makes in the show just doesn’t feel high stakes like in the book. I think Phia did a great job acting with what she was given—my quibble is what she was given. I think she was given direction to make Helaena dissociate and suppress her reaction, which contributes to the scene not feeling as impactful as it could have been. Helaena has been characterized as “spacey” and “not there” so far, so I think they were continuing that route. But having her suddenly erupt with emotion in B&C, to contrast with her previous seeming lack of emotion, would have elevated the scene to another level.

The ending Alicole scene really deflates a lot of the emotional heft that did build up during B&C. Again, it feels like it was inserted for comedy. It reminded me of when Jaime’s hand was cut off in GOT, and it immediately cut to the end credits with a heavy metal song that felt inappropriate next to the scene that just happened.

Helaena’s final line, “They killed the boy,” was odd wording. It feels very distant and passive. Even if they insisted on having Helaena dissociate during B&C, this moment when she escaped with Jaehaera and was “safe” could’ve been an opportunity for her to break down and show what she’s really feeling inside.

Overall, 90% of the episode was great. B&C, gruesome as it was, was kind of disappointing. But the teasers and leaks tell us Aegon will at least have a very strong reaction next episode, which should be wondrous to watch.

Blue Flag by KAITO

8 volumes. My favourite series!! I have so many thoughts about it. Simplest way to summarize the theme of the series is in the first sentence, "Your best friend... or your lover. You can only save one." (implied: who would you choose?). Love triangle between the main character, Taichi, a shy female classmate, Futaba, and the main character's popular, childhood friend, Toma.

A lot of western fans complain about the ending, but I thought it was very fitting for the series. I might be biased because it's my favourite, and I can't necessarily justify myself without spoiling it >.<;; CW for homophobia & outing as a major conflict in a later volume.

Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani

4 volumes. Beautiful visual metaphors. Main character comes to terms with being gay & overcoming his internalized-homophobia. CW for attempted suicide & homophobia.

The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang

1 volume. Focuses on gender identity and presentation!

Skip & Loafer by Misaki Tamamatsu

8 volumes (7 English localizations), ongoing. Has an anime coming out soon! I reread it recently and joined their fan server, but I'm just lurking ^^; I feel like people who enjoy GSNK would also enjoy this series.

Although it isn't explicitly queer unlike the other two recommendations. It's still very charming! I really like the main character and her aunt. Even though her aunt is a supporting character, the chapter that focused on her made me cry a lot. My favourite characters are actually the aunt and the drama club president (a side character... but given his role, it tracks LOL /hj) I remember when I first read it and didn't understand why people would call it WLW representation (I still enjoyed it though!) After my recent reread, I get it now >u< Even if it's not canon, I ship two of the main character's friends together. I'm very curious to other people's interpretations~ My wife doesn't really read the same things I do, so I have to wait to watch the anime with her when it comes out before we can discuss it together.

Is a remake of another series by the author with a (slightly) different title, but I recommend this version (restarted in 2022). The main characters have a lot of similarities to HoriKashi! Assistant cameraman Kippei is invited to attend a cosplay event for the first time to get practice photographing people. He is immediately captivated by cosplayer Makoto. Makoto is equally interested in Kippei (he has muscle from lifting heavy shooting equipment after all!), but, not wanting to disappoint him, she continues to pretend to be a man in an attempt to get closer to him.

Tonari no Kinniku Joshi by Ano Amesuke

A short series about a muscular girl and a tsundere boy Ruby (the muscular girl) isn't technically an ikemen, but I love their dynamic (maybe I just like tsunderes?) I also have no recollection on how I found this series but it was saved on my mangadex. Some parts of the scanlation read weirdly, and since it's a short series, the writing isn't the best, but I still enjoyed it!!!!!!

Not a manga but will include it anyway: the Taiwanese drama Bromance would also fall under this category! I remember when older HoriKashi fans and I would talk about how well it would suit them as an AU ^^

After reading the recently released chapters, I gotta say that my speculations were spot on! 🥳 I mean, I knew that they’d want MC for something. I was ready for this outcome but what threw me off was wanting MC to prove herself…😑 Come on Vesper, last I checked you need MC not the other way around. As far as I’m concerned she doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. And don’t even get me STARTED on the LIs. Welcome to a new beau to the plot: Lucien. And he is literally one sexy ass vampire. Sexier than Vlad…*coughs* I mean, I’m just saying. You gotta get a look at this guy—Moving on! What the hell is up Shen?!?!?! I get the whole going through the ringer but MC has been through some trails and tribulations herself. I don’t see her acting clutched…*thinks*—Let me rephrase that. I don’t see MC acting all that clutched all the time! Obviously, she get her secrets and pains. I’m starting to lowkey think if MC is an addict.🤔 Also, did MC get caught?!😱

*sniffles*🥲 Guys, so much went down in just two chapters. It’s honestly a lot to process…🥳But, let’s break it down, shall we?

Okay, so during this read MC is literally dancing with darkness…LITERALLY! And let’s not forget about MCs boyfriend. (I don’t know who y’all chose but I chose Tony…like one does😤) And in the mist of chaos, MC lost him just like that! Just to save her. 😢I honestly blame my choices. But I’m coming up with some major speculations here. Hear me out: The shadow, phantom—or whatever you want to call it—referred to MCs boyfriend as a “third wheel,” indicating that it would get rid of him.🤔🤔 Now, you see, you don’t go getting rid of someone without an agenda. The Phantom doesn’t look like it wants to get rid of MC just the people around her. The Phantom wants MC but why? I also peeked that it called MC a “Van Helsing,”—mind you, you don’t go dropping that name around if you ain’t dealing with some real dark evil shit. Maybe MC carries this bloodline—the blood of a Van Helsing. In my pervious post I mentioned that it could have something to do with MCs heritage/bloodline. And looking here, the Phantom is dropping the Van Helsing bomb. But back to the main speculation: What could the Phantom possibly want with the MC?—it’s like the Phantom in some shape or form is becoming a LI—a dark one at that. Maybe, there is a dark love story or some prophecy that has to be fore filled or get backed to?🤔 There is definitely some spooky shit going on. And MC lost two people already equaling two candles being blown out. Obvi, I’m still piecing together the love, sin, and evil I’m sensing so far to the story. And this is what I got: The Love, is the romance between a Van Helsing and a dark being. The Sin, is the betrayal of both Van Helsing and dark being. The Evil, could be the cause and effect of the love and sin that were committed in the past, birthing something new and sinister. And let’s be real, Jonny is smart as hell because right now Mister-all-so-kind-professor isn’t looking all that kind. I’m starting to feel he’s behind it. Trying to unlock or free something. And he needs MC for that maybe?🤔 Or…his career was shit and he really need the win to prove that he can do better?😅 Either way, professor explorer is turning into professor WTF!

I’m all for the adventure but whose going to tell the princess that she’s part of the LGBTQ+ community? 👀 Someone’s gotta do it.

-He reluctantly explained that he didn't confess earlier since he never had any intention of dragging you into his mess and insisted that he could fix their conflict on his own.

-You ignored his insistence and eventually resolved the conflict, and he seemed livelier than ever.

-When you first meet, he'd silently curse you for never granting him the peace he longed for in his AU.

-He would never talk to you whenever you visited him. He'd simply glare at you as you try to talk to him.

-His silent hatred towards you slowly died out when he realised what being the God of Peace is like. Inevitably, the results of his AU was an unlucky fate.

-Overtime, he’d be fascinated and curious, just like Dream. He finds that being the God of Peace is such an important job. (Not that other Gods’ jobs aren't as important but imagine a world without peace.)

-He questions but never asked if you're related to Reaper’s universe.

-He wants to see how you carry out your job as God of Peace in action and asked to tag along if you had to go off for work since he had nothing better to do in the save screen.

-Ever since you allowed him to watch you do your job, he always tagged alongside you.

Error!Sans:

-Peace? That's the exact opposite of him.. at least that's what he thinks.

-At first he thought that you were similar to Ink, interested in taking away his ability and choice to destroy AUs.

-However, you were different from his initial thoughts. You never complained or made snarky remarks about him making your job as a 'Peacemaker' harder.

-Error destroys AUs and maintains the balance. This balance equals to peace, and peace equals to you.

-You may or may not admit it, but you genuinely admire him. He makes your job easier without realising it.

Ink!Sans:

-God of Peace? Such a God exists? He has so many questions for you, an endless list of questions.. And he threw paint up.

-Being the creator of AUs, his main priority was only to ensure creators created their desired AU with no issues. But, peace was a situation he couldn't control in all the completed AUs.

-You offered to help him hold the peace within the AUs, and he readily accepted.

-The two of you are like partners in crime. One aids with creating, and the other perfects these creations.

Final Fantasy XVI Review

So I finally finished Final Fantasy 16. And it was amazing. It took me about 81 hours to beat the game. I did all the side missions and hunts. I love the combat and the different eikonic abilities. The graphics and God the story was amazing. This game should have been nominated for game of the year (in my opinion). I even played the Echos of the Fallen dlc before beating the game. I would recommend this game to everyone. Its so good. Like if I could forget this game to experience it for the first time again I would do it. Idk of the demo is still out but if you are on the fence on this game I would suggest checking out the demo. Below will be my thoughts (mostly me ranting about different things lol) and it will mention some spoilers for those who have not played/ finished the game.

I literally saved the recording of the entire ending. OMG I know the ending is kind of ambiguous but I did not think Clive was going to die. (I know he might be alive but with the curse). I cried at the end. JOSHUA. (*in Clive's voice)  I thought Jill was going to be killed by Barnabas or Ultima lol. And the beginning like wow. Poor Joshua. My mouth was open in shock when he saw his dad get beheaded. Then the whole Pheniox and Ifrit fight was *chef's kiss*. I loved the characters so much too. CID oh my sweet sexy Cid. His voice and character were so good. "I'm here to even the odds. Any objections". And Gav oh poor Gav in the end he was so happy that Edda's baby was born but he had lost a friend. I was so happy to see Sir Wade (I thought he died too). And Dion and Terrence. I loved seeing Dion fight with his spear. Like when he threw it at Oliver (I don't support child abuse) or him fighting the Akashic in Walood. And the little medicine girl was so cute. For some reason, I thought she was going to have a bigger role in the story like be Metia or something. (I guess she did help Dion ...) I also wish we saw more Garuda. I think Garuda looked so good. (All the eikons looked good the graphics are amazing and I played on performance mode). Also, Bahamut was huge. RIP Dion who never got to see the purple Wyvern Tailflower again.😢😭

Oh and the eikonic abilities. I think my most used was Ramuh (yes for Cid) but it looked cool and i feel like the Judgment Bolt ability was strong. At first, I stuck with the Pheniox, Garuda, and Ramuh. I tried all abilities and in the end, I stuck with Phoenix, I liked that you could zip up to flying enemies, Odin, the Zantetsuken ability could wipe out a horde of weaker enemies, and Ramuh, I liked targeting groups of enemies. I ended the game with Flames of Rebirth, Aerial Blast, Impulse, Dancing Steel, Thunderstorm, and Judgement Bolt.

Like I said above I did all side missions and hunts. I hated the turtle enemies. They sucked. Some of the side missions were really good. I did not expect Theo to die. Or that one mission where you help those bandits (I think on the way to Boklad)  I wish there was a follow up to that mission where you confront the bandits. My favorite ones were probably fighting to save Eastpool with the guardians of the flame and the bearers and helping out the dame in Northreach.

No, he hasn't. He has the right to feel weak too without feeling guilty about it. There's still some work for y/n to do.

And she just did it her way, she didn't listen to him and I love her for that...I would've done the exact same thing...

There wasn't a relationship between her mother and Thor persay but more like they fucked each other sometimes, the cult was very open about sex and Odin encouraged the women there to sleep with his sons to purify themselves 😖

He Yu's bracelet is orange not red yet and Xie Qingcheng is optimistic, he hopes it will blue one day soon. He Yu can't possibly wait for him forever according to Xie Qingcheng. I think you are underestimating He Yu's tenacity Xie ge. I think he will wait forever.

Xie Qingcheng doesn't want He Yu's stuff in his house anymore so he throws out all of his stuff. He Yu left so many things in his dorm room, his school books, his game console which he bought so that they both can play together but it's been collecting dust in Xie Qingcheng's room. He Yu doesn't decorate his own house but he definitely wants to decorate Xie Qingcheng's house with his stuff. This shows that Xie Qingcheng is his home. Awww He Yu even got zootopia Nick and Judy mugs for them. Omg this is so cute. But Xie Qingcheng threw them all out so

I want He Yu to buy them again when they finally move in together. After getting rid of everything, Xie Qingcheng feels like the entire house feels empty and cold. Why did you get rid off the stuff then 😭😭

The little charizard that He Yu kept on top of his bed had somehow escaped Xie Qingcheng's cleaning up and Xie Qingcheng remembers He Yu saying it will keep Xie Qingcheng warm when Xqc pointed it was fake He Yu hugged him and promised to keep Xie Qingcheng warm for free all the time. Basically Xqc missing his human heater.

Xie Qingcheng genuinely misses He Yu a lot because he almost throws the charizard out but then keeps it anyway.

He Yu texts Xqc at 11 every night from outside Xqc's dorm and only then he goes back home.

It's heavily raining one night and He Yu is still standing outside Xqc's dorm. Xqc opens his window to smoke and finds him standing in the heavy rain, the umbrella not doing much at all. And he thinks if he's too cruel when their eyes meet. The rain scene made me tear up. Ngl.

Xqc gets a call from Qin Rongbei, Qin Ciyan's daughter's husband to inform him that she's passed away. Oh wow! Another person to add to the list of deaths that is going to haunt Xie ge forever. And what was all the experiments he has done on his body for. All that in vain!!! Fuck!!

But it's also good! No need to save anyone any more if He Yu kidnaps him and locks him up for treatment.

Despite the death of Qin Rongbei, Xie Qingcheng is still on his road to self destruction!

Xqc goes to cemetery to visit Chen Lishen and Qin ciyan's tombs but as always he can't go near Qin ciyan's tomb so He Yu takes the lilies from Xqc to place it in his tomb for xqc instead. Xie ge should honestly marry He Yu! 

He Yu notices Xqc's weight loss and the coughing and the frequent visits to Meiyu hospital. Please He Yu figure it out already!!

Xqc has planned to get xie xue married before he passes away so he tells xie xue he has picked put some good candidates for her.

“Did he just bro-fist you?” Steven asked incredulously.

“That’s what she said,” Borna replied automatically. “But yeah, apparently he did.”

Steven threw his hands up. “Why must everyone be so shady?” he complained loudly.

His hand narrowly missed his mug, which Borna automatically moved further away from the edge of the table.

“Do you think he’s got anything to do with Madam Reid and her organization?” Borna asked.

Steven shrugged. “There’s only one way to find out,” he said.

Borna nodded. “Go to that super secret meeting.”

“No!” Steven was looking at him, scandalized. “We can just go over to his place, corner him again and-”

“Torture him for information?” Borna finished the sentence.

Steven snorted. “Sure, we can have a karaoke night until he caves in.”

They ate in silence for a minute.

“But for real, what do we do?” Steven asked. “Shit is getting really weird.”

Borna shrugged. “We’ve got two leads, you could go bug Dorian and I can go to that meeting.”

“Ah.” Steven deflated. “Nevermind, that was dumb.” He chewed his lip. “I’ll ask Dorian to meet up,” he finally said. “Friday is soon and I’d like to do this before the… meeting.”

“Okay,” Borna said, defeated.

Steven’s fingers flew over the screen and then he put down his phone. He barely set it down when it buzzed. Steven picked it up and showed Borna the message.

“He’s got no idea, does he?” Borna asked after reading the texts. “And why does he text like a fuckboy?”

Steven sighed deeply. “Who would have thought a self-proclaimed caveman would be prone to overusing emojis.”

“We could go tomorrow?” Steven suggested. “I’d run then straight to work.”

Borna nodded. “I’ve got the morning shift, I’ll be free by then.”

Steven took his phone again and typed the message. “Asked for tomorrow at half past,” he announced.

The phone immediately vibrated. Steven unlocked it and made a face.

“He can’t?” Borna asked.

“No.” Steven showed Borna the screen, his face screwed up in distaste. “It’s just the fucking emojis.”

They met up at Dorian’s apartment again, Steven all winded from climbing four flights of stairs. Dorian welcomed them both awkwardly, but enthusiastically, showing them in.

“What’s the occasion?” he asked cheerfully, taking out some glasses from the cupboard. “Anything to drink?” he offered. “Beer? Coffee?”

“Just water, please,” Steven replied, still wheezing slightly.

Dorian rambled as he filled up Steven’s glass, a jittery quality to his motions. “I hope you don’t mind that it’s kinda messy, I never have guests, and I didn’t have time-”

“It’s fine,” Borna said. Aside from one wayward blanket on the floor and an overflowing ashtray they were sitting in an almost pristine room. It looked like an aged up, scaled down, mismatched version of rooms from furniture catalogues. Almost as if a child would try to make a collage of their dream home with expectations based purely on 70s soviet interior design.

Dorian finally settled down on the sofa.

“We need to talk,” Steven said without a preamble.

Dorian’s face fell. “About what?”

“Start with why were you sitting in a car, covered in blood, pretending not to know Borna,” Steven said.

Borna pulled out Madam Reid’s business card. “Does this mean anything to you?”

Dorian’s eyes widened. “So she is here!” he exclaimed. Taking a moment to compose his face into something resembling neutrality, he gave the card back. “She’s…” He stopped, closing his mouth and opening it again. “My boss?”

“Is she your boss or is she your boss, among other things?” Borna asked.

Dorian gave him a long look. “She probably told you, didn’t she?” he asked.

“Told him what?” Steven cut in.

“She probably didn’t tell you,” Dorian said. “You’re not… you know.”

“A werewolf?” Borna asked bluntly.

Dorian nodded. “I don’t know if I should talk about this with-” He gestured to Steven. “Sorry, man,” he added sheepishly.

“If you don’t tell us both now I’ll tell him later,” Borna said.

Dorian met both their unmoving stares. “Okay, okay,” he mumbled. “So you know that there’s this organisation connecting all the werewolves, right?” 

They both nodded.

“Well, we need to make sure none of us gets revealed to the general public.” Dorian sighed wearily. “And this also includes taking care of the feral ones.”

“Feral?” Steven had concern written all over his face.

Dorian shrugged. “Some get so caught up in the euphoria of the wolf form they don’t want to change back,” he explained. “With time they completely forget who they are. Can cause a whole lot of trouble.”

“And what do you do with those?” Steven asked, voice low and wary.

“We shoot them.”

Borna placed a hand on Steven’s shoulder, who was already ready to launch himself at Dorian.

“And when were you going to tell us about that, huh?” Steven snarled. “Don’t you think that’s an important detail to mention?”

Borna pulled him to lean back on the couch. “How common is that?” he asked.

Dorian shook his head. “Not very. Last night was the first call in months.”

“So that’s why you were covered in blood that night.”

Dorian nodded. “We accidentally hit him with the car and then Gary finished him off with a bullet. It was quick, but burying the body was messy.”

Borna nodded thoughtfully. “Is that all you do under Reid?”

“No, not at all.” Dorian’s face cleared up, his demeanor losing the gloom. “It’s kind of like a… support network, you know? There’s things that we have to take care of for the good of the whole community, but if you’ve got problems, even if they’re completely unrelated, you’ll get help!”

Steven and Borna exchanged dubious glances. “That sounds very good,” Borna slowly said.

“Too good,” Steven concluded. “Where’s the catch?”

Dorian rolled his eyes. “There’s no catch, we just have to stick together, you know?” He shrugged. “Like we all immediately decided to stick together after finding out we’re all trans!”

“Sounds legit,” Borna said.

Steven huffed indignantly, but refrained from commenting.

“Is the interrogation over?” Dorian asked. “I was actually really looking forward to spending some time with people that aren’t my coworkers, but not like this.”

“One last thing,” Steven said.

Dorian groaned.

“Do you know about anything happening on Friday?”

Dorian nodded. “We’ve got the monthly meetup. Why?”

“I’m invited,” Borna answered.

“Shit.”

“And why is that bad?” Steven asked sharply.

Dorian took a deep breath. “Turning other people without any consultation within the group is generally… frowned upon,” he said. “It would be best if we pretended that we don’t know each other.”

“And why don’t they want you to turn people without their approval?” Steven asked.

“Recklessness. Bad characters.” Dorian shrugged. “Better to have others take a look to make sure no one too problematic ends up with powers.”

Borna nodded. “And if it happens anyway?”

“I don’t know, never saw anything like that happen.”

“Until you did me.”

“Until I did you.”

“That’s what she said,” Steven mumbled absent-mindedly. Then he looked upon the clock on his phone. “Shit, I’m gonna be late!”

He got up, making sure that he had everything he needed with himself. “Work,” he explained when Dorian shot him a puzzled look.

“You too?” Dorian asked, looking over to Borna who also got up, getting ready to leave, but Dorian’s question made him pause. “No.”

“Then you could stay for a bit?” Dorian asked. “If you don’t have anywhere to be?”

Steven shot him a glare, but Borna shrugged and put down his jacket. “Sure,” he said, ignoring Steven’s tightly pressed lips.

Dorian and Borna walked Steven to the doors, saying goodbye, Dorian valiantly trying to melt Steven’s icy demeanour.

“Stay safe,” Borna said, patting Steven on the back. 

“You too.”

Steven didn’t need to give Dorian an extra glare to demonstrate what he meant, but he did it anyway.

After the doors closed Dorian let out a breath. “He really doesn’t like me, huh?” he said awkwardly.

“Biting people, turning them into werewolves and failing to explain key elements tends to invoke that reaction, yeah,” Borna replied dryly.

Dorian shot him a sheepish gaze. “Sorry?”

Borna snorted. “It’s alright, he’s taking it way worse than I am, honestly.”

They returned to the living room.

“You sure you wouldn’t like a beer?” Dorian asked. After a moment’s thought Borna nodded. “If you’ll have one,” he said.

They sat down on the couch again, much less tense than before.

“So what is it like?” Dorian asked.

Borna took a sip. “It’s still so early,” he said. “Spent last few days feeling like shit.”

Dorian nodded in sympathy. “Those weren’t fun for me either.”

“How long has it been for you?”

“A few years,” Dorian answered, his face growing more solemn. “They found me at a… bad time. Helped immensely.”

Borna nodded wordlessly. Dorian was staring in front of himself, fingers toying with the edge of the label on his bottle.

“I was stuck with my shitty family, failing my studies, closeted as hell. Would start fights with people just to feel something.” Smiling wryly, he looked up back at Borna. “One night I started a fight with one of the wolves but we somehow befriended each other. It was him who suggested to turn me.”

Borna nodded. “It sounds like they really helped you.”

“They did, it’s just so…” Dorian trailed off. Then he leaned forward, smiling conspiratorially. “Don’t you feel more in charge of your life?” he asked, voice low, but fervent. “Don’t you feel like you own your body more than you ever did before?”

“I…” Words died on Borna’s lips.

“I’ve seen how you two came here today,” Dorian said, sounding a touch more like his usual self. “You didn’t break a sweat, meanwhile Steven was huffing like a steam train from all the stairs.”

“You’re right,” Borna realized, brows knotting. “That was weird.”

Dorian smiled smugly. “That’s just a start.”

They ended up chatting for hours, exchanging stories, jokes, music recommendations, veering away from heavier themes after Dorian’s little confession. It got late by the time Borna got back home, though Steven was still at work. As he worked the morning shift the next day, he went to sleep without much preamble - as curious as he must have been, Steven would get mad if Borna lost sleep waiting for him to come home so he could report all the details of the hangout.

Dorian woke up with a swooping sense of excitement in his stomach. He had to survive his mind-numbing shift first, but then it was the time for the meeting, and meetings were good. The time in the store dragged like never before, the usual anticipation exacerbated by the fact that Borna was coming too.

His phone started vibrating, the screen showing three poop emojis. Dorian sighed, picking it up. “What is it?” he asked.

“Am at the back doors,” Gary’s voice crackled through the tiny phone speaker. “Let me in, I’ve got a package.”

“Coming,” Dorian replied and put the phone down. Casting a glance at the store windows, he left his chair, disappearing through the curtain to the back.

Unlocking the doors, he was greeted by the sight of Gary’s bulging arms wrapped around a giant cardboard box. He stepped aside, holding the doors open.

“It’s a big one,” Gary said needlessly. “Natalie will send someone to collect it.”

Dorian nodded. “Just put it on the floor there so it won’t get in the way.”

Gary put down the boy with a dull thud, pushing it towards the wall. “Did you talk with Natalie these days?” he asked.

“No, did she hear any new gossip?”

“She said there’s a new wolf in town.”

Dorian carefully schooled his face into an expression of surprise and interest. “Oh, really?” he asked, voice almost not wavering at all. “Does she know anything more?”

Gary smiled slyly. “She said he was one of your sort.”

The resulting eyeroll was completely genuine. “And what does that mean?” Dorian asked sarcastically.

“I don’t know,” Gary said innocently. “But she said he was kinda cute.”

Dorian shooed him towards the exit. “Out!” he yelled, slapping Gary lightly.

“I’m going, I’m going!” Gary exclaimed, cackling loudly. Dorian shut the door behind him, laughing despite himself.

Dorian freshened himself up, making sure to put on one of his nicer shirts. He had a bit of patchy stubble, but after a moment’s thought he decided to leave it. He didn’t have much time anyway. Once he’d get embarrassed by the desire to make himself look nice for the meetups, but he spent too many days wearing whatever he grabbed from the wardrobe in the morning, too sleepy to really care. It was nice to feel pretty once in a while. Shrugging his jacket on, he left his apartment.

Gary was waiting for him with the car, honking once when he saw him get outside.

“Hurry up, pretty boy!” he shouted.

Dorian jogged to the car and got in. “Sorry,” he said, out of breath. Then his face screwed up. “What the fuck is this smell?”

“It’s my new cologne,” Gary replied defensively.

Dorian shot him a pitying look. “I still can’t believe you’re a wolf,” he said. “Can’t you smell-”

“You’re the one to talk,” Gary grumbled. “You smell like cheap soap and stale cigarettes.”

“Why do we need to come early anyway?” Dorian asked, ignoring Gary’s remark.

“We need to set up some things.”

“Okay, why do I need to come early?”

Gary snorted. “Maybe Madam thought you could do with some extra workout.”

“Fuck off.”

They met up at a café, small and secluded, but most importantly private and owned by another  wolf. It was warm, walls covered in wood panels from which photos of nature and a few hunting trophies hung. The windows had white curtains, allowing the patrons extra privacy, and the patio was lined with large potted plants. Natalie was already waiting for them at the entrance.

“Hi!” she chirped. “Samara needs some help with hooking up the projector to the laptop, and someone needs to rearrange chairs and tables.”

“I can help Samara,” Gary said quickly, earning a stink-eye from Dorian.

“Great!” Natalie exclaimed. “After you’re done Madam will want to speak to you.”

Gary and Dorian nodded, exchanging looks.

Dorian felt his palms sweat. “Let’s get to work, then,” he sighed and they entered the café.

Miles, the café owner, was already waiting for Dorian. He was an older man, with a weathered face and salt-and-pepper beard of an admirable length. “Come on, kid,” he said. “I’m too old to move these things by myself.”

Dorian looked miserably at heavy solid-wood tables and chairs. “Me too,” he mumbled.

A sweaty while later Dorian and Gary reconvened at the back of the room.

“How was doing some real work like?” Gary asked smugly.

“Sucked,” Dorian replied. “How was getting rejected by Samara for the millionth time like?”

“Sucked,” Gary admitted.

Dorian cackled, earning himself a rather massive elbow to the ribs. They walked through the curtain behind the counter, stopping in front of the doors to the office. Gary knocked.

“Come in,” Madam Reid called from inside.

They entered, closing the doors behind themselves. Madam Reid shut her laptop and put away a stack of papers. “Thank you for helping Samara and Miles,” she said.

“Anytime,” Dorian mumbled.

“You’re probably wondering why I wanted to talk to you two,” she said.

They nodded.

Sighing deeply, she stood up. “It has come to my attention that there’s a new wolf in town.”

Gary nodded. “Heard it from Natalie.”

“Yeah,” Dorian added hoarsely.

“It’s always very risky to turn someone without the help of the community,” Madam Reid continued. Then she fixed her steely gaze upon Dorian. “So you can probably imagine how shocked I was to learn that one of my own did that.”

“Dorian?”

It’s been a while since Dorian heard Gary’s voice this fragile, this hurt. He wanted to do something, to turn around and tell him that it’s not like that, except that it was, and that Dorian was too frozen on the spot to do anything other than just stand there and stare back at Madam Reid.

“You must understand we have to tell others about it,” she continued. “Things like this must be dealt with communally.”

Dorian nodded mutely. He wasn’t sure if he’d be able to make a sound if he tried.

“And I think that it would be best if you didn’t take part in the meeting today,” Madam Reid said gently. “Some might get… upset after being told the news.”

Dorian nodded again.

“Gary?” she said, finally releasing Dorian from her gaze. “Can you stay with Dorian?”

“Yeah,” Gary replied hoarsely.

Madam Reid looked at Dorian again. “I know this is scary, and we’re upset, but we don’t want you to do anything rash that could hurt you,” she explained. “We can find a way to solve this constructively.”

She put her papers and laptop in a bag. “Wait here, please?” she said. Exiting the room, she gave Gary an encouraging squeeze of the shoulder. The lock clicked behind her and then Dorian and Gary were left alone.

“Don’t you trust us?” Gary asked, and Dorian’s vision blurred with tears.

“It’s not that,” he whispered, sniffling lightly. He felt a heavy hand on his shoulder, gently pulling him to turn around.

“We’ve been through so many things,” Gary quietly said.

Dorian avoided looking at his face, staring at the wall instead. He took a deep breath. “I know.”

“Why did you even do it?”

Gary’s hands now gripped his shoulders and Dorian could feel him trying to catch eye contact. More tears sprang up to his eyes and he finally looked at Gary who was just a smear through the tears.

“I’m so scared,” he confessed and then Gary scooped him up in a hug.

“You know how lone wolves usually end up,” Gary mumbled into his hair.

Dorian nodded, wiping his tears in Gary’s shirt. The wetness on his cheeks felt too much like blood.
