Sweet Pool references

this reference is one i was NOT aware of at all until very recently, so credit to @/slybluehologhost for pointing it out! and for the screenshots if they are yours! their post was the one i found this out from lmao

the CG of one of the first rhyme fights in dramatical murder, is a corrupted version of the Okinaga household cg from sweet pool!

here is the original CG. if you notice it's using 3d resources, something that dmmd didn't actually have a lot of as backgrounds. the reason is because it's leftovers from the previous game!

if you look at the CG flipped, you can see clearly that it is the Okinaga household living room/kitchen!

in my opinion this is one of the coolest refs on this post. bc i played dmmd before every other n+c game, i genuinely didn't notice this when i first played. its something that only people who played sweet pool would notice, and i just find that so nice! just a lil easter egg for people who know

Mayu's room is FULL of Nitroplus title references. so much that some of them I didn't really recognize besides the obvious, so i literally had to just go through the character lists on nitroplus games to find what characters they were. ur welcome for this incoming information that you may or may not have known

probably one of the most recognizable nitroplus characters in this room is saya from saya no uta, mayu has a figure of her in the middle! (theres more boxes of her but this was the most noticeable imo)

Next (disregarding the obvious figures in between) to her are the two main characters from You and Me and Her, Aoi Mukou and Sone Miyuki!

i find it a little funny that they would put these references in because the audience for the people playing nitroplus games vs the audience playing n+c games are like VERY different but nonetheless, pretty cool!

while not a "reference" per se, sweet pool is heavily inspired by saya no uta!

this is something thats just a generally agreed fact, but i felt compelled to include it anyway because i rly love both of these vns and i love rambling abt them. theyre very similar in the ways that they both got meat n gore, and the main characters dealing with the meat n gore, and the general theme of just isolating yourself from people because of it and not exactly having a happy end. fuminori completely giving up his outside life for saya, destroying friendships n whatnot, and youji locking himself in his room and shutting out people who aren't dealing w his lil problem (makoto). the ending where saya wins and the red road ending shares some vibes imo. its all very similar even down to the soundtrack that had some of the same people working on it, and even gen urobuchi himself (writer of saya) worked on sweet pool as an advisor. so in my head its canon that these two games r brother and sister

What are your favorite visual novels? And Otome?

I prefer dark/taboo stories so most of what I'll mention is filled with it. I might've forgotten some cause I pulled this out from what I can still remember:

Rondo Duo -> Nukige yuri/futa, porn with plot. Considered as the most impressive artwork out there, everything is animated through flash. The plot revolves around this half french half japanese girl who was raised by an overly religious father, constantly chastising her and presumably being blamed for being a woman as they are considered an enemy of god for seducing men into sinning.

She encounters a demon who teaches her to experience sexual acts for the first time and the rest is history. She moves into Japan with her mother and goes to an all girls school and decided to corrupt them and introduce the act of sexual depravity.

Euphoria -> Nukige, porn with plot. Extreme content but amazing story, despite the things it depicts, it is actually a love story. It's about 7 people, 6 women and 1 man trapped in this facility and they are forced to commit extreme sexual acts with the mc just so they can escape this place, the more you choose the same participant, the sadistic it gets. It tackles the hidden nature of a person and encouraging this sadistic nature out in the open despite the mc not wanting to.

if you can stomach what this vn churns out then feel free. I don't like the majority of the fetishes this game has, the mc needs to fucking wash his dick and the two girls you can choose are useless from a plot stand point, you are better off pursuing the three women instead as they are more relevant.

Butterfly Affection -> Created by the same creator of Teaching Feeling. You find a strange creature in the middle of the road and you decided to bring it home and take care of it. Throughout the game, the creature will start to become more humanlike.

Boyfriend To Death Series -> Not a dating game, this is a survival vn where you try to escape from a bunch of psychopaths. Depending on what kind of survive you plan to do, you can straight up give yourself stockholm syndrome, etc. It is was entertaining, it scratched a need for more dark games.

Determinable Unstable -> Created by the same creator of Teaching Feeling. You encounter a creature named fear in the forest in an attempt to visit your grandfather's grave, the curiosity overtakes you eventually and try to communicate with her. You can customize her, but idk if this has been completed.

Sayonaro wo oshiete/Teach me how to say goodbye -> Nukige, porn with plot, infamous denpa horror. I also consider this as one of the best for it's story. You are a man who is just starting to be a teacher in this all girls school but one day you encountered a girl who you call an angel and start to have thoughts of her being violated.

Throughout the story, you're mostly trying to figure out what's real and what's not as you will suddenly get into a H scene and then it will return back to normal the next. The mc is schizophrenic btw, says and thinks the most outlandish things. There used to be an english translation but the elite bullied the guy who did it because it was not up to their standard in regards to capturing this game's wording.

Katawa Shoujo -> One of the classics out there, it is about pursuing a romantic relationship with a bunch of disabled girls and you, the player, is a young man who just recently found out he has a heart condition and is transferred to this school after trying to confess your love to a girl. It made me tear up.

Saya No Uta -> Nukige, porn with plot. Well known eldritch romance horror, you are a man who just got into a car crash and now suffer from a strange condition where everything around you smells and look like meat. He is unable to function through everyday life to the point that it's affecting his previous relationships negatively till he met a girl named Saya. In spite of his surroundings only she looks normal as he clings to her for sanity sake.

Minikui Mojika No Ko/The Ugly Duckling -> Nukige, porn with plot. This is more dark and about revenege than anything out there, it deals with a deformed young man who is bullied for his appearance at school and was lured by a female classmate into thinking he was getting confessed at, he eventually snaps and assaults her. What they don't know is that he has telephatic powers since at the very young age and it is part of the plot. What I like about this VN is that it has impressive animation effects, like the words floating around every character to give you insight on what they really feel and the entirety of it is just you looking down their feet most of the time, making you disassociate with the world.

There is no translation but let me give you a bit of it:

There is a monster in this vn. Yes. It is very unique.. It is a large, sentient dick. A long time ago, there was this overly lustful monk, and was said to have seduced the empress and chased out by the soldiers, but his manhood was too big and so decided to cut it. After that, the locals decided it'd be a great idea to deify this large rod as they claim it brings good fortune and medicinal properties and started a cult out of it. This gigantic member gives blue aphrodisiac when they give it a sacrificial maiden, but they found it too taxing and so made a group of their own maidens through inbreeding so they can toss the children they birth out to this deity.

The MC and one of the main interests are inbred. And only through this bloodline are they able to gain this power called Mojika(Mind Reading). My gripe with this one is that the MC keeps repeating himself, making it a slog to read through.

Morenatsu -> You know what this is about, I don't need to explain it. It has a good story and it really gives off that nostalgic and isolated village feel where you are an outsider of it. My only gripe is the bad ends which seems to be out of character for even the mc and feels out of nowhere, also fuck Kounosuke.

Kana Little Sister -> Eroge, incest. An emotional story about a forbidden romance between a brother and his sick sister. The H scenes are mostly towards your girlfriend and there is only one for Kana but it is optional. It changes the ending but it's not a requirement, really.

As for the otome games, here:

Cancel A Format -> Fanmade game for hetalia, you play as a girl with amnesia in a private island where a school is set in. It is where all the country personifications go to as cultural exchange and alliance forming. You are pretending to be a guy out of fear of being targeted for being a girl and enroll there. Mostly crossdressing and misunderstand hijicks ensues, it also has the saddest routes because my eyes constantly hurt afterwards.

Girlish Love Revolution -> Yes. This is a dieting otome game, I hold it up in an esteem way. This was also one that lets you get together with your actual brother, blood relative, and he is the best route. There is already an english translation for it's DS version. I got the hardest guy to get in the game on my first try.

Hatoful Boyfriend -> Pigeon dating game, no ironic shit. This is peak. Once you've finished all the routes, you will unlock the true route and this is where this vn is heralded as one of the best.

Kuni No Alice Series -> I've also mentioned this before, this is unapologetically problematic and we are all here for it. Alice in wonderland themed, while I want to explain to you the plot, it's other sequels don't seem to follow it and has turned into something episodic. The gist is that this entire world is a game, those with roles and those who don't have them. Go play the original if want to learn more, it already has a fan translation.

The men are filled with red flags and Peter is the superior husband because he has mud on his ears and don't listen to anything you say.

Monochrome Heaven -> Do not let the art style fool you, this has the most interesting plot line out there. Even the bad endings hold information for you to piece together what's happening and their relationships. I highly recommend this one.

You are an orphaned girl selling matches till a man approaches you, he takes you home to make you his wife within a limited time. If you fail, he will kill you so while you're in the house, you'll learn things about the family and why the men there seems to die so young.

My Vow To My Liege -> Chinese otome, takes place in the last years of the dynasty where you are a girl disguising herself as a man in order to get respect in being a ruler of a nation. This is filled with despair and many characters will die, I assure you. The story is amazing and GouJian is the best.

Nameless -> Has the best yandere for an otome game and the story can get very dark. Your dolls turned into humans, and by going through all of them, you will unlock a secret route which will reveal the true main interest.

Taisho X Alice -> Good protagonist, good characters, good story. Katakana Alice is number one. Not spoiling the plot twist but it is episodic, some connecting but has it's own story where fairytale characters have been genderbent for a good reason and the only one who isn't is this mysterious guy named Alice.

The Men Of Yoshiwara Series -> In a remote island, men and women have switched roles, the men in this island are born as courtesans and live in brothels while the women are free and work, they only go to these brothels to bear children. Despite the wonky translation, the story is very good and the characters are memorable. Every character has their own story, it has bittersweet endings in most of them and it has made me tear up.

My favorite is Kikuya but Ohgiya has the better translation between the two. In my opinion, this all in the matters of taste so if you prefer the men in Ohgiya then go for it, my man is in Kikuya so I am obliged to prefer that one.

TMGS/Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side -> I've said this on the previous ask, it is in fact, one my favorites. There is already a translation for the three games.

whatever happened with the saya no uta chatbot? i could never get the english link to load and now it’s just a page not found, and the jp link just brings up a screen with a bunch of overlaid japanese text and nothing else i can do seemingly. i’ve never even seen any evidence of the english version ever working besides one reviewer saying that the english appeared to be MTL so id really like to know what the hell happened there.

or i’d at least like to know what the supposed story and endings are. were? it wasn’t announced that long ago so i figured it’d still be available but i don’t see how to access it.

like, i don’t expect any of it to be good, necessarily. just. what happened. this entire situation and product was odd. i know this thing kinda got memed on and nobody particularly wanted a saya no uta “ai” product least of all me, but i’d still really like to see better documentation on what it actually is/was and what went down with the supposed english version.

Replaying N64 titles with LQ2XS filter + per-pixel lighting

I was trying for something that would take the lobby from Mario 64 and make the walls and ceiling especially resemble a sky, like the original, and not just surfaces. I think it took this combination to pull that off with upscaling. LQ2XS makes bizarre visual artifacts, but it seems to be the best overall Was using Smooth filtering 2, but Smooth filtering 4 might work the best Smooth filtering 2 worked best with LQ2X

7/18 It was my uncle Butch, my mom's brother who never succeeded in life and lived with my grandparents, who told me the variation of the nursery rhyme with hand figures, "here's the church, here's the steeple, open the door and CRUSH ALL THE PEOPLE!" That one time when in Mechanical Drawing class, in downtime when people had all their assignments before the next deadline done and got to play Halo online in a local server, which is a miracle in itself in a way, I semi-consistently sniped down guys in Banshees with a shotgun - one guy said across the room or something, if that were real life, you wouldn't be able to do that with a shotgun (now that I think of it, despite it being short-range in classification in videogames, they're used for disk shooting at ranges, and you wouldn't have overshields, combined with the fact that Banshees absolutely have this gaping open back section exposing the pilot)

Update There was one point in trying Quake III Arena well after its heyday I figured the people there were going to be more experienced than me no matter what, so in a narrow situation of 1v1'ing one other person who happened to be the current winner of the match by a longshot, I went into overdrive mode and won. One time. And then that got people spectating monitoring me until they eventually just concluded, "he's useless".

Update Having a Gameboy Advance rendition of the school's sport Quidditch basically made it glaringly more obvious that the role of the Snitch makes practically the entirety of the rest of the game surrounding it defunct. It was always designed to produce those scenes, where the sense of empowerment with the protagonist was had.

Update What did I end up liking as a "main" instead of that later on in childhood? A Series of Unfortunate Events, the novel series. And even then my actual readership was kind of skimpy, but I did stick with the final releases. I found out *much* later, in high school, that the same author went on to make some novels with a romantic bent, but i never went into that.

7/19 night Given that a cartoon rendition of something is what is shown to kids, I'm surprised from my own experimentation that the cartoony representation of bubbles appearing around someone would take such a massive amount, whereas most people just drink a casual amount. But that trope might have come around back in the early days of cartoons like Popeye the Sailorman.

Update What was I even thinking, taking the time out to make a comprehensive map, hand-drawn, of Link's Awakening as a kid, and then thinking about advancing the details further later on? There's no "true level" on which to advance, yet that's how I was feeling.

Update In high school, I landed a preliminary task for contributing to a major wad with a zombie invasion, and the idea was to make a zombie mall. Not only had I not played the actual games already made with that concept, I don't think non-abstractly enough to come up with what the mall stores are going to be just from scratch as an organic addition to a game. Sure, you could just copy-paste actual stores and just edit them slightly, but that wouldn't be any fun.

Update I honestly had in mind with the Common Filth upload "Esoteric Cannibalism of the Old World Order" the kinds of things that used to scar me, like MLP Snes, or more specifically the screaming face wall texture from the original Doom, which in its first appearance really has that kind of effect, unless you're just phasing it out or, I don't know. Also, a comparison of MLP Snes to the spirit of corporate greed I think is just a plain dumb ass take. 7/19 It's not that I don't like work per se. It's more that I'm legitimately scared of it being sprung on me as something that I have to do indefinitely, because I've heard about crunch time hours. Also, if there isn't a way to learn computer programming such that having a higher IQ actually counts for something, since it *is* all about memorization for its own sake, I'll be spinning my tires in the mud just to keep the same pace with everyone else, and that will be the case indefinitely.

It's scary, and the only way to avoid that fear is to keep putting it off.

There's no doubt my mom thinks I'm not *doing* anything, because whenever she catches me sleeping during the day, something that my own dad has suggested for things like after mowing the lawn on a weekday, she says she's just going to have to send me off again because she's about to give up. That doesn't match anything that's being said about my actual workmanship. If they thought that, they would be screaming at me constantly. This economy has gotten by in its greatest years doing on average fifteen minutes of actual work every day. That's an exaggeration, but still. They've actually accepted when I've taken naps during the day, but if it's in the morning just after I get up, then it's different.

There's a sentencing that comes implicit with this kind of perception of someone. If I just work *now*, I'll be *accepting* that all of this has been put in place - this is a problem because there is falsehood preceding anything that I can actually do that puts me in a bind conjecturally. One thing I've heard within my online campaign is that the origins of language and commerce are so simple, it doesn't even warrant the kind of worrying we're doing at this point, or at least that's how I'm feeling right now.

Staying right for the employer precedes essence to such a degree, the rest might as well be reduced to smearing shit on the walls, because that people do less than fifteen minutes a day of actual work is fine has no bearing on the fact that you have to appease in the moment. And literally *none* of that adds up to mathematics. I actually feel like even difficult topics for other people are simple and so a breath of fresh air relative to the bane that is appeasement.

Update after dinner I think the thing is, no one honestly does "work" - when you're doing that, the joke's on you.

Update It's almost like I *want* a circumstance where I have no choice practically but to do something productive so that I can be productive without doing this thing where I internally rationalize the act of being productive against my will for no reason at all and thereby normalizing it. I want a circumstance where I'm just doing things because getting ahead would be practically desirable. Right here, it seems like the white men dropping out of society are the ones in the lead socially, despite what everyone else might be saying. Right now, competition doesn't seem relevant.

And of course there's something funny about the fact that liberalism has been criticized for requiring people to live in such a way that is mere existence, while white men dropping out of society are more literally doing just that.

Best argument you can make - and that raises further questions: MLG montage is a representation of a lifestyle, such that even apparently making parodies of the thing itself is still considered valid as a continuation of that lifestyle, after the fact of the original cause dying out because of loss of interest

Some people made mods for GZDoom to the extent that you can have more or less all of the standard film effects from 7th-gen gaming in the original classic Doom. I don't see why that wouldn't be welcome with Mario 64 - I think in its current form, no matter how you slice it, there's a certain limit to its immersion

One night, my mom decided to take my blood pressure, when no one thought I had alcohol at home, and she was shocked.
