One of my favorite interpretations of 3rd Life Scarian is that Grian has been doing wifey shit for free since like, day 2, and is very in love with Scar but in denial bc he doesn't think Scar would see him that way

And Scar's equally in love oblivious ass who just thinks they're besties doing bestie things and hasn't considered that love is on the table for either of them so isn't actively making an effort to show interest

grian waking up, middle of the night, with scar's sword barely an inch from his throat

scar's eyes are wide and practically glowing red in the low light. his hands are shaking, wrapped so tightly around the hilt of the blade that his knuckles are bone-white, and his chest is heaving with every shaking breath

".. Scar, what are you doing?"

"Eh-? Oh- hey, Gri.. y'know, I just- I just couldn't sleep. Antsy. Not easy being red, y'know?"

"Not really. I'm still green."

"I can help with that."

"Scar."

"Right, right- noo, no murdering friends. That- would be rude."

"It would.

Are you going to move the sword."

"Sword? Psssh, wh-what sword?"

"The one literally this close to stabbing me in the neck."

"OH! Would you look at that!"

the sword clatters to the ground on the side of the bed, but then scar's hands are still far too close to grian's throat.

"... Scar?"

"Hmm?"

"Go to bed."

"Okay. Goodnight, Grian. Sleep well."

"You too, Scar. Sleep well."

grian rolls over as if scar couldn't pick up the sword and kill him.

he lays there with his back to the world, to scar, free and open to stab him in, and shuts his eyes, listening to scar breath heavily above him, hands digging into the pillow, the pillow grian knows scar could pull from under him and smother him with. he knows scar knows it too.

scar moves, and grian hears the rustle of bedsheets not too far away, and he sighs, letting himself drift off.

grian wakes in the morning, and the sword is gone, and he sighs again.

this will not be the last time scar nearly kills him, and he knows that.

he trusts him anyways.

Saw someone describe Scar’s luck as being “installed upside-down” in that he could survive falling from a plane with no parachute no problem but dies 50 times on his way to the supermarket, and honestly yeah I think that’s the best descriptor.
