Predictions for general reactions to The Horrors:

Lodgers: stunned silence, some whispering of general disgust

Jekyll: barely able to breathe and desperately trying not to sob while covered in goo

Lanyon: deceased

Hyde: also deceased?

Rachel: Hero moment. I thoroughly believe she'll be the first to go to Jekyll and offer him sympathy. She likes Jekyll. She likes Hyde. This is weird and gross but clearly this person (people?) is (are?) having a bad day.

Jasper: Will tag along with Rachel because he's a sweetie like that

After being Barney’s drinking buddy for a sufficient amount of time, Gordon has noticed a sort of scale he operates in. He keeps a short list in the back of his mind. as a safety precaution:

Buzzed- Drinking has started; hardly noticeable; generally seems more mellow.

Tipsy- A drink or two in; visibly giddier; speech slightly less coherent however still completely intelligible.

Intoxicated- Fully drunk; thick slurring of speech; a threshold is passed.

Hammered- ??; have yet to experience. Hypothesis: he is an emotional drunk

Blackout- have yet to experience, however secondhand encounters inform me of him having to be “dealt with.”

From his own encounters, Barney doesn’t appear to want to get hammered–or even intoxicated very often. Gordon has found that usually a few drinks will do it.

Although, during the Alien marathon weekend a while back there had been conclusive evidence that if in possession of a constant stream of alcohol while also in the correct environment, he will comfortably cross the threshold.

ANYWAYS ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE

Lanyon not being able to belive at all that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person is perfect. I personally adore the fact that that he couldn’t find it in himself to think that Jekyll, one of Londons FINEST gentleman, and HIS best friend is the culprit for his own situation.

Because I think anyone else would have reacted the same way. Nobody wants to belive it could be a loved one’s fault for the situation they are in, especially one as severere as the situation Jekyll is in.

Lanyon does not have it in him to belive that Jekyll could possibly have done this. He KNOWS it had to have been one of those cooky, eccentric, mad science lodgers..

Right?

Well, little does he know he’s gonna have a hard pill to swallow :)

Jekyll did this to himself!! And Lanyon, despite telling his beloved Henry to let him know if he “ever went to far”, will be stuck knowing that his beloved Henry did not in fact let him know, or trust him enough to. And Lanyon could do nothing to help.

The person he hates most and the person he loves most are the same person and this is a terrifying moment for him!

ohhhh icarus :D okay SO first of all, i've got a playlist for her backstory if you want to check that out here: project icarus (content warning for emotional abuse)

icarus was a test subject created by a band of scientists who have been trying to create a winged person (<- i'm working on figuring out more of their motives/goals, and i don't have much but i think it has something to do with how coveted elytra are from the End, so maybe the scientists are trying to create a way to have elytra without reaching the End? which results in them creating bird hybrids....)

icarus was the First test subject, which meant the scientists hadn't perfected the hybrid form yet. they kept icarus in a tower and raised her there, slowly injecting her with more of the hybrid...stuff (dunno what it'd be Called). to keep her in submission, they were incredibly emotionally abusive & manipulative, and icarus developed a lot of fawning techniques to keep them pleased with her. they took her out of her test-tube when she was, like, sevenish in human years, and then raised her outside the tube in a room at the top of the tower after that, so she was with them for the majority of her childhood + teenage years.

now i am notoriously Not Great at creating plots & backstories sdljsdg, so i will admit her backstory's got lots of gaps and some weak spots xD but essentially, she lives in this room in the tower for most of her life as the scientists take notes & do experiments on her. she grows older, her wings grow stronger, and the one window in her room looks really nice..... she doesn't mean to disobey, she just wants a taste of the fresh air and the clouds look so pretty, as she tries to fly out to the roof of the tower.

well. the scientists stop her, and Are Not Pleased At All. their demeanor changes, and are suddenly a lot more aggressive/violent. it makes her realize she may actually be in danger. so she decides to book it outta there, and breaks out of the window and flies as far away as she can.

but, being Her, and having never Been Outside The Tower Before (yes this has rapunzel vibes xD), she gets really thrilled about the sun and flies too close to it she's gotta live up to her namesake after all which results in her wings burning and her plummeting to her death in a lake.

when she respawns at the lake's bank, her wings are still severely burned & damaged to the point where she can no longer fly. so she decides to make this place she's wound up in her new home. she names it resurrection lake and builds a wooden hut at its edge for shelter. the endermen nearby help by giving her bits of food that they find, since she has no real idea how to Stay Alive (talk about being sheltered). eventually grond arrives and they begin the deep green. :D

btw similar to the whole "if you try adderall at a party and it calms you down, get an adhd test" thing, if at some point in your life you try microdosing shrooms with a friend and end up feeling like a functional person for the first time in your life, get tested for depression. like yeah hallucinogens come with elation so youre probably gonna have some "this is the best ive ever felt in my life" vibes regardless, but like. if that in and of itself feels like finally breathing in for the first time in years, thats for sure a sign that something is up with your ability to process serotonin most of the time. feeling better than ever before should be a nice bonus, not a crushing weight off your chest

no, oli, you don't treat bird flu with antibiotics. i'm not even sure if antibiotics were a thing yet in the approximate time period for pirates (note: i looked it up and it's probably anachronistic). but even then, common as hell misconception: viruses can't be treated with antibiotics
