Dialogue from this weeks Avalon mission that while hilarious, has me crying all over again as I make this post. I’ll miss you Asher.

Crow is obviously struggling with his grief but it’s sort of messed up, given everything he knows, to turn to YW and invite them on a vengeance crusade. Through Uldren he has first hand knowledge of just how far off the deep end they’re capable of going. How far does he want them to go? How much pain does he want them to cause? If he asks for scorched earth he’d probably get it. Given Amanda’s death happened during a mission they were involved in it’s likely another loss they feel somewhat personally responsible for.

I know there’s a lot of times different characters ask for YW to basically unleash rage upon their enemies but personally to me (just my headcanon basically) I always felt that, post Forsaken, it was meeting Crow and hearing about what he’d been through since he’d risen that started to wake YW up. And with his perspectives on our conflicts and enemies in the following seasons he reminded YW of the type of Guardian they could be. The type of Guardian they were when they showed Misraaks mercy all those years ago on Titan.

So it being him who is asking this of them just left me feeling hollow.

Ok I think I've had enough time to like process everything properly.

Amanda dying sucks. For a variety of reasons. It genuinely sad that she won't be around anymore. We lost her, we lost a friend. There's a hole now.

But narratively her death sucks bc of how she was written this season. This entire season I've been annoyed by Amanda. Annoyed by how she was treating crow, annoyed by the fact she's apparently been living under a rock when it comes to the darkness, annoyed by how she's just been acting recently. Season of Defiance lore and story genuinely feels like we've taken a step backwards from where we were. On top of all that, we knew it was coming, we knew she was gonna die, so we had some time to prepare. Even then, her death doesn't really feel impactful? It really feels like it's just something that happened rather then a real hit.

I also just can't get myself to feel angry about it?? Like Crow is rearing up for vengeance Forsaken 2 electric boogaloo style. But it's war??? People die??? What's there to get revenge on??? We didn't "get revenge" for Rohan, we understood it was 1) war and 2) his choice. It's the same situation here. Her death is sad, it sucks. But she chose to sacrifice herself, its war.

Logging onto Destiny this week be like

Idk man imagine if Defiance had actually cared about female relationships. Imagine Petra or Suraya instead of Devrim: getting to learn how Petra and Mara’s dynamic has evolved outside of just them talking about Crow, Suraya bonding with Amanda and challenging Mara with how important she feels Normal People are to the fight. Fucking kestrel jokes with Mara and Louis man idk.

Or even just take what we got! Have Mara and Amanda actually develop a relationship! The lines they had together were already my highlights! Let Mara’s human side be something other than “I’m sad that man sad :(“, maybe let it be the joy and fear of connecting and opening up to another person after isolating so much. Maybe let it be being so shattered after making herself vulnerable then losing someone all over again. Or if you really can’t be assed to develop a relationship between two women, maybe just have Mara talk about her guilt that someone died on the front lines while she stayed safe and guarded, again! About the weight of command! About any of her own feelings, not just men’s!

Christ, I just cannot do another year of seasons pointed squarely into Crow’s navel.
