Road to Cream 64 v1 Part 6-3: Vibin' in the Sky

So turns out there's actually gonna be four parts to this. Thanks, Eggy. ANYWAY

Tall Tall Mountain: Sonic Adventure - Mt. Red: A Symbol of Thrill (Red Mountain) Secret Slide: Mario and Sonic 2014 - Slide (SM64)

Ya know after all these versions, I cannot find a track that better suits TTM better than this. I mean the two levels are kind of similar in structure, minus the random explosions and construction on Red Mountain. Still, can't go wrong with a classic.

The secret area is kind of a weird one. Cause I had originally set the music for the race against Gemerl, since the original version is also this same song. Around the time I was getting to the extra areas, I was hitting the original hard cap on sequence files you could add, which was 50 total. So here I would just end up reusing the race track for the slide since I didn't have much of a choice.

Smaller areas like the secret star levels are like this for the same reason, except for one.

Tiny-Huge Island (original track): Team Sonic Racing - Lost Palace Actually Used: Sonic Lost World - Juice Archipelago Wiggler Cavern: Sonic Mania - Lava Reef Act 2

The level always had tropical vibes to me, so digging around I had a few in mind. Still trying to find tracks in games I haven't touched, I landed over to TSR and found this. Liked it enough to put it in for a bit and is even in footage I recorded for previews.

Eventually I felt it was a bit too fast paced for the level and ended up swapping it out for something a little less intense. And so back we go to the Lost World pool...Again not a bad track per say, just another instance of me grabbing a song from the game that's basically a Mario game.

Wiggler's Cave being Lava Reef Act 2 was kind of a "ehhh I guess it fits?" moment. I had nothing in mind and was just glancing at what I had put aside to use. In later versions, I would just remove it entirely and just reuse DDD's track cause of that hard limit I mentioned earlier.

Tick Tock Clock: Sonic Unleashed - Rooftop Run Night

I had ask some people for ideas on what to use for TTC cause it's kind of a unique level type for Sonic. Sure, you had him going through factories or large mechanical structures but nothing like a clock tower.

It's funny cause my mind instantly went to this track but I never considered it at first till someone just went "well why not just use it?" and here we are, simple as that.

Rainbow Ride: Sonic Runners - End of the Summer

So this is another one of those I had in my mind playing before I even had a chance to implement it into the game itself. It bares repeating, if you haven't had a chance to hear this game's ost, give it a listen. It's real good and it's a damn shame it's all stuck and gone in a gacha game.

I remember this track being part of a special event, no idea if it was ever actually in the sky, but it has that vibe of flying through the sky. Hopping from cloud to cloud, traversing the floating platforms. I just wish the track was like shorter by a minute but I refuse to remove it. It's too perfect to me.

Princess Secret Slide: Sonic Advance 2 - Leaf Forest (unused)

So this track ended up being used twice: One for the initial splash screen with the giant Mario head, and the track mentioned here. It does become clear that this was meant mostly as a trailer track or even a menu track (or even back when Advance 2 may have been a slower platformer like the first one), it's hard to say but it's really grown on me and I wanted to use it somewhere.

And as mentioned before, this is the only other secret star stage to have its own unique track as I guess I had this in mind for that level rather than the Mario head screen, especially since I would just skip that part in later versions.

Boss Theme: Sonic Adventure 2 - Master of the Desert (Egg Golem) Actually used: Sonic Mania - Ruby Delusions (Eggman Boss 1)

I was kind of shuffling between tracks to see which one I wanted to use. Sonic has a wide range of really good boss tracks so it was just a matter of preference and what games haven't I used. For the time being I went with the first one, since I haven't used many SA2 tracks and it's pretty short.

Eventually I gravitated toward Mania cause it's such a vibe. Sure it's longer and could eat up more space, but suddenly hearing that against King Bob-Omb should let you know what exactly you're in for with this hack. Still the boss track to the latest versions.

Wing/Vanish Cap: Sonic & Knuckles Collection: Unused Track (Or well was unused)

Had this one in mind for a while cause aside from the allure of it being an unused track, let alone a super sonic unused track, it did kind of fit that sense of majesty with the wing cap. Not so much the vanish cap but they shared the same track so not much choice there (least for now).

For this I actually had to find a rip of the midis from the Sonic & Knuckles PC Collection and use that. Sure, there were other midis in the usual spot, but I thought it felt more appropriate to grab one from an official source since there was actually one I could use. On that same subject...

Metal Cap: Team Sonic Racing - Team Ultimate: Amy Actually Used: Sonic & Knuckles Collection - Chrome Gadget

Did the same thing as Egg Golem for the TSR track cause of space.

The logic was that this was short and easy to loop plus a nice guitar riff for metal explorin'. Only reason it got replaced was to save up on space so there's another one. Shame, I do enjoy the TSR tracks but I don't think most of them fit the pace of SM64 which I guess makes sense.

I guess to keep things consistent between the cap themes, I chose another midi from the S&K Collection. Chrome Gadget is a bop but still it's just a bit silly in retrospect. Still, I'm happy I got to go ham with the Metal Cap sound bank and those percussion samples.

That just leaves the Eggman specific ones so that'll have to go into Part 4 ->

Time to get teased by the bros! Long post I got into it. as always, if you want the undatables, feel free to send another request!

Lucifer You left the lamp on every night, after a few months in the devildom Lucifer had assumed that this was a mistake. Passing out while reading or working on homework. Responsible. Today he had been helping you with your homework late into the night. As he went to leave he turned his attention to the lamp. “You shouldn’t leave this on all the time, It wastes energy.” His hand was reaching for the pull chain as you spoke up to stop him. Lucifer glanced back at you sitting on the edge of your bed with panic in your eye, “What?” He chuckled as he pulled the chain and walked back over to you, sitting on the edge of the bed. He smirked as you clung to his arm. “Really now, what do you have to fear with me here?” He slowly coaxed you into your covered and stayed with you, letting you hold his hand until you passed out. He would help you get past this, you deserved to be the best you could be. Mammon His room was never truly darkened in all honesty. Always watching a movie or playing a game on his projector. The dim rim lighting around the bottom of his bed and along the walls in his closet. Tonight though, he had a headache. Another day another failed get rich quick scheme down the drain. The demon didn’t give it a second thought as he turned off all the lights as he sunk into bed with you on the couch. It wasn’t atypical for you two, but what he wasn’t expecting was the tingle of fear that ran through his mind from your pact. “Human you alright?” Sliding out of his bed he found his way to the couch and putting a hand on your shoulder, “Yer all tense, somethin’ scare ya? I told ya ya shouldn’t watch those damn horror films with Levi, things would leave anyone shaking.” He frowned as he heard you take a deep breath before replying, “That’s not the problem Mammon... I just don’t like the dark ok....” Your voice was small, did you know how much that absolutely killed him? That’s just not fair to get to him like that. You hear his warm laugh as he grabs you off the couch, the dark hiding his flushed face and neck, “Good for you, ya got the Great Mammon to keep ya safe! Ya better appreciate it!” He dropped you onto his bed, and neither of you said anything as he turned the rim lights back on before sliding into bed. He never did turn them off again. Leviathan It took the power going out for Leviathan to find out about your little secret. His room was literally never dark between his all night gaming and his massive aquarium. With the power out though, the only thing greeting you as you woke was the soft sound of the water lapping up against the glass. He woke to your voice cutting through the darkness as he climbed out of his tub and went towards the pile of blankets and pillows he had made for you next to the tank. He could feel your fear in his mind, a tingle to remind him of your closeness. He grabbed his DDD out of his pocket and unlocked it, turning on the flashlight as he sat next to you. Part of him wanted to offer you a hug, the rest was terrified of the idea. You made the choice for him as you wrapped your arms around his middle. "H-Hey! Who said you could just do that!" The sadness in your eye as he reached to move your arms froze him. "ugh, Fine ok whatever this is fine." The darkness was a little easier to ignore if you focused on the dark flush covering his face. Satan His room was rarely fully darkened, between his reading light and the large window facing the nighttime moon there was always at least a soft glow to his room. Tonight there was cloud cover though, and he was too tired to read. You had been in his room shoved between a couple of piles of books, your own in your hands. He directed his attention to you as he draped his coat over the back of his chair. "I think it's time for bed don't you?" You finished the sentence you were reading before looking up at him as he reached for his pajamas laying on his bed. You looked past him though, as the storm outside had finally covered the moon. Slipping in a book mark you close your book and set it on his desk as you went to walk past him to the

door. "I think I'll just stay in my room Satan, thank you for having me thou"- He sticks his arm out before you make it that far, "You can stay you know, I don't mind." He had a hunch what was wrong, having tested this a few times. Dimming his reading light to nearly off with you around and you, slinking closer as he did so, fleeing the dark corners. He wasn't going to pry tonight though, he just wanted your company this time. "We can leave the reading lamp on the desk on if you would like. No need for you to trip in the middle of the night and knock over my books." His smile was hard to ignore. Asmodeus You had gone to Asmo to relax, taking his offer to do your nails and give you a personal spa day after midterms. He ran his hands through your hair carefully as he worked in the perfect product as he chatted about the latest devilgram drama. He kept the lights low in his room, mostly to not stress his own eyes. Partially to have a nice fill light for his selfies. Before long you were drowzy putty in his hands.

"Oh Darling you really should sleep more, your poor skin is so splotchy right now." You hummed as he finished his last task on you as he grabbed a set of spare pajamas from his closet and told you to put them on as he got his bed ready. Pouting a bit as you closed the door to his bathroom to do so. When you return, the lights are nearly off. Just bright enough to see the edges of the furnature in his room, and just enough to see him raise his arm from the blankets and pat the matress next to him. He was confused for a moment as you hesitated in the doorway clinging to the light of the bathroom. Asmo stood wordlessly, grabbing your shoulders and leading you to the bed. He turned up the lights a bit for you, grabbing his own face mask from the nightstand. He could work with this Beelzebub It wasn't in his room when he found out. Not even in the house of lamentation actually. He had taken you to a local bakery to replace some doughnuts he had eaten of yours that morning, and by the time you were done there it had gotten darker out. Clouds rolling in and covering the Devildoms ever present moon and stars. You clung to his sleeve as you walked and honestly he paid it no mind. He liked when you were close to him. If you were close you were safe. If you were close he could enjoy your presence. If you were close he couldn't lose you. So when he walked away from the street lights to take a quick shortcut to he house, he had to take notice to you getting even closer. Beel stopped, looking at you as he did. The shudder that passed over you as you looked into the darkened park he had wanted to walk through, frowning at you. "Do you want to stay on the main road? There are more lights there." You nod with enthusiasm as he turns back to the well walked path. "Okay." At least there wasn't a worry for his room, the headboard glowing in the night. The rest of the walk was him going through the house in his head, planning how to light the areas you liked the most. Belphegor Finding out about your phobia, belphie did it by mistake. He had passed out with you in the attic watching a movie. With the credits finished rolling the screen sat dark on the other side of the room as you tried to wiggle out of his arms to reach your phone, the light switch. Anything really. You were nearly in a panic by the time he woke up releasing you and you nearly ran to the light switch. His chuckle behind you as you went. Once the light was on you were giving him a dark glare. He raised his arms weakly in surrender as you scooped a pillow off the ground and hurled it at him. Belphie curled around it as you walked back to the bed with him, smirking at you as you did. "Silly human you are huh. Scared of the dark more than the demons in the house. Priorities." He let you push him down to the bed as you started giving him shit for making fun of you. That was fine though, you got to focus on him instead of your lingering fear.

(Part 1)

Part 2: Saved by the Light

Starting with Ariel singing “Part of Your World”. I’m not gonna go line by line or anything, just wanna paraphrase certain parts. If you’re not familiar, the song is basically about Ariel wanting to live in the world outside of the ocean. Lol, cutting to the chase. Again, it’s basically Kh1 Riku.

One thing I want to specify is that even though the song is called “Part of Your World”, she doesn’t actually say “your” in the chorus at all. Not when she first sings it in her secret cave, where she has her collection of human stuff. Ariel just wants to be part of “that�� world—the human world.

When she’s singing this, she’s in her cave, which has an opening at the top. The hole lets in light from the ocean’s surface, and Ariel reaches for it, but she can’t actually reach it obviously (bc the hole is too small lol). It’s all an obvious metaphor for how Ariel is stuck underwater while wanting to live up on land.

I wanna note that while the human world is obviously the land, what Ariel actually sings about, what she dreams of, is being in the sunlight. She reaches for the light above her cave, what you assume is the sun above the water. Underwater, sure, there’s light, but the light isn’t properly/directly touching her, she can’t directly feel it, it doesn’t fully reach her. She dreams of being outside of the water, so she can spend her days directly in the sun's light. The light represents and literally touches—encompasses—everything Ariel can’t have. (lol it’s a reverse lion king)

I gotta repeat how Ariel feels trapped in the water, and she is reaching for the light.

Cough. Riku trapped in darkness, reaching out his hand...to Sora. Riku, wanting to be, to live, in Sora’s light in general. (Letting Sora’s light shine onto his darkness.)

A shadow blocks out the light over Ariel’s cave, and she swims to the surface to check it out. Turns out it’s currently nighttime, which means the light Ariel was reaching for was actually the moon. Moonlight.

(Recoded flashbacks; the memory of Kh1 Riku reaching for the moon and bringing his hand to his chest dramatically, owie)

It gives me thoughts about Sora’s light, and vaguely hearing the idea of Sora being the moon, and Sora being closer to darkness than light. Like, as a personal headcanon ig, perhaps Sora’s light seems so bright because he’s reflecting Riku’s light, the way the moon reflects the sun, and has no light of its own. We know Riku’s light is like. Inhumanly bright. Like, Riku doesn’t just seem to have a bright light in his heart. It seems like he is light itself, or at least he’s connected to it in some way. Especially with all his sun imagery. So to me it’d make sense that even if Sora was merely reflecting Riku’s light (not to mention Riku’s light shines directly onto Sora’s heart), because Riku’s light is so impossibly bright, Sora’s would seem extremely bright as well. The reason Riku’s bright light hasn’t been “obviously attributed to him” is because he was cloaked in darkness ig. The way the sun’s light isn’t visible at night, though it continues to shine, and is only seen at dawn. And I mean, the light second to the sun in the day, is the light of the moon at night. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Anyway, the shadow Ariel saw was a ship. It’s shooting fireworks into the sky, and I mention this because I always gotta mention fireworks lol. Ariel swims up to the ship, sees the crew celebrating, but when she sees Eric, she instantly falls in love. And it just reminds me of how Riku has only ever had eyes for Sora, even since childhood lol.

But why is the crew celebrating? Apparently it’s Prince Eric’s birthday. And for his birthday, he is presented with—a statue. A statue, of himself. Of Eric. Man.

SORA’S STATUE. goodness.

Grimsby, the man who commissioned the statue, apparently had originally intended it as a wedding present, but that didn’t pan out because Eric didn’t fall for the princess he had been set up with.

“Believe me, Grim, when I find her, I’ll know. Without a doubt it’ll just—bam—hit me, like lightning.”

...sure, Sora. But it makes me wonder, once Sora does realize—would it be all at once? Versus Riku, who took his sweet time putting it to words in DDD lol. Who knows.

But lightning does strike—the ship. The ship burns, Eric’s heavy ass stone statue sinks into the ocean, Eric risks his life to save his dog—

Now Eric is drowning.

Sora, at the bottom of the abyss. But in my mind, it lines up more with Sora’s breakdown. His darkness caught up to him and overwhelmed him, and he finally confessed to feeling worthless. Riku expressed his belief in Sora, which helped Sora persist after death, and Riku sacrificed himself, which created the tear in time that let Sora rewrite the fated fall to darkness.

Riku saved Sora.

Ariel saves Eric.

We see them on the shore, under a cloudy sky the morning after the storm. Eric is breathing, but unconscious. Ariel calls Eric beautiful, when the night before she’d called him handsome, and I mention it because I love that line lol. Ariel touches Eric’s cheek and starts singing “Part of Your World”, but with changed lyrics.

This time, the song is specifically about Eric, not just humans in general. Ariel’s priority—her dream—has changed. Man. It’s DDD and Kh3 in one song! Nice.

The clouds part and the sun shines on Ariel and Eric on the shore. A literal ray of light.

Eric starts to wake up (and the sun only shines on him once Ariel’s voice wakes him), and he sees a girl surrounded by a bright light—

Eric, saved by the light.

Sora, saved by the light.

—and the girl is singing a song. “...part of your world.”

Your world. And I’m just here, thinking about Riku, and how his quote has changed from being about important people, to being about one important person. Riku doesn’t just want to see the outside world anymore, he wants to be part of Sora’s world, part of Sora’s life. ????? How to be “okay”??

Of course, Ariel has to swim away before Eric fully wakes up and realizes she isn’t human. And all Eric knows is: “A girl...rescued me. She was singing. She had the most beautiful voice.”

AND THAT’S IT, that's all he remembers. He only knows this mystery girl rescued him, he vaguely saw what she looks like, he heard her song, and that she has a beautiful voice.

Ugh. So little yet so much—SORA.

I can’t get over the in-game implication that at the very least, like Eric, the one moment Sora has memory issues with, is Riku’s sacrifice. Specifically the event of Riku saving him.

He doesn’t seem to remember the sacrifice, or who saved him, if Sora remembers he needed saving, which it seems he does. In eng, Sora tells Nameless Star that he “thought it was all over” for him, but that someone told Sora they believed in him.

All Sora remembers. Is that he was in trouble, that he was screwed, and that someone believed in him. And he acknowledges that that’s what’s helping him keep going, to literally persist after death.

But Sora doesn’t seem to remember WHO saved him.

The way Eric doesn’t know WHO rescued him.

And when I think of Eric only knowing Ariel by her voice, by her SONG (bc he didn’t get a good look at her)—I have to think of Sora and Riku’s song. The one that plays either completed or with half the song missing when Sora either defeats or loses to Yozora. Dearly. Beloved. And the fact Eric doesn’t know exactly what Ariel looks like—is a detail for later.

Another note I wanted to make was that at first, Ariel was reaching for the light. But now, we see that Ariel IS the light.

Riku reaching for Sora’s (moon)light, only for Riku to end up being the (sun)light himself.

I’ll do a commentary on my folklore fic “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl” - Rated M, Mythology AU, Multi-chapter, Incomplete.

Tanabata (July 7, 7/7) a festival for an astrological legend, has been a popular art concept for Naruto characters. It celebrates the star-crossed love of Hikoboshi and Orihime, a story that has roots in China. The legend traveled to Japan with the trade of goods/services/religious conversions. Japanese people write wishes on slips of paper that they tie to bamboo in hopes that the gods will grant their heart’s desires.

Hikoboshi is the star known to Westerners as Altair, and Orihime is the star known as Vega. Both stars are part of the “Summer Triangle” with the star Deneb.

You can see how the two stars are separated by the Milky Way, aka the Amanogawa (River of Heaven), which forever dooms their love :(

I did a ton of Wikipedia on Greek/Chinese/Pacific Astronomy to come up with the world of my story :D Please enjoy my nerding :D

The story opens with Ino, the Princess of Horn, getting her wedding shiromuku made.

According to Chinese astronomy, the sky is separated into 28 “Mansions.” These Mansions are divided into 4 Symbols (7 Mansions per Symbol). “Horn” is the first Mansion of the Symbol called “Azure Dragon of the East.” That’s where Ino is from :)

Naruto is Hikoboshi, who “lives across the Amanogawa in Akira, and herds the cattle of Northern Genbu.”

Altair/Hikoboshi is the brightest star in the Western constellation Aquila (Akira). Aquila is located in the Mansion “Ox” of the Symbol “Black Tortoise of the North.” Tortoise reads as “Genbu” in Japanese. That’s where Naruto is from :)

Hinata is the Weaver Girl, who sits “beside the Amanogawa, Orihime of Raira.”

Orihime is in the Western constellation Lyra (Raira). Lyra is also in the Mansion Ox in Black Tortoise of the North. Hinata and Naruto are from the same place, but the River of Heaven separates them from ever meeting without divine intervention.

Naruto is recognized for his mastery of his job, which is to guide “the cattle across the fields and back to their respective starhouses.”

The Disney movie Moana made Micronesian/Hawaiian navigation more famous, but the technicalities were not explained in the movie. All stars rise and set from named houses.

The compass shown has the 4 Cardinal Directions (ʻĀkau, Hikina, Hema, Komohana) and the 4 inter-cardinal directions (Hoʻolua, Koʻolau, Kona, and Malanai). Each direction has 7 Houses. These House names repeat. A star that rises from Koʻolau Haka will set in Hoʻolua Haka. A star that rises from Malanai Lā will set in Kona Lā. A navigator memorizes where the sun and hundreds of stars rise and set during each season so that they know their position and direction at all times. This “compass” is actually a mental map.

From the navigator’s perspective, it looks like that in their mind. So, I made guiding the cattle to their houses Naruto’s job as a herder :)

“The air is shrouded tonight.” “How can he see where he is going?” “Simultaneously, astonishingly, incandescent, like the solar winds that, at times, surge across his fields.”

When navigators can’t see the sky, they use the direction of the waves/wind to tell their positions. For Naruto, it would be the wind blowing his fields rather than waves.

According to legend, Tentei, the Heavenly Sky King, Orihime’s father, arranges for them to meet. I have them meet at “The Pavilion of Swans.” Altair (Hikoboshi) and Vega (Orihime) are part of the Summer Triangle with the third star, Deneb, aka Cygnus, in other words Swan. That’s where I have them meet :)

They get married! Hinata wears a lot of different splendid kimono throughout the story. The shiromuku is the traditional bridal kimono, but it is common to change them! The last one she wears with the two cranes stretching across dark fabric is called a hikifurisode.

Cranes mate for life, so they are common symbols of loyalty used for weddings.

Hinata gets pregnant :D According to the Japanese legend, this doesn’t happen...but in Chinese legend, they have twins represented by the stars β Aquilae and γ Aquilae.

Here you see the two children with Altair. So that explains how I made Hinata’s plan that enrages her father :)

“It eventually became clear that what sounded to her like the river was rising, was actually the sound of numerous magpies. They amassed over the river, a cloud of white and grey, their flock almost disturbing in its powerful show of numbers. The azure-winged birds coalesced into one form, moving together and stretching above the river.”

Orihime and Hikoboshi are saved by the sympathy of magpies. Tradition says that if the sky is cloudy, the birds can’t go to help them meet on July 7. Tentei never helps them again, so it’s up to the people’s prayer and the strength of the magpies to keep the sky clear so that they can meet every year.

Magpies look different around the world! Magpies in China look mostly like the one pictured on the top, with blue-tipped wings. They’re known as symbols of good fortune and happiness. Magpies in Japan look mostly like the one pictured on the bottom, with gray and light blue feathers. Since this is a story with Japanese characters, I decided to go with the magpies found in Japan.

This is the kind of stuff I love learning :DDD So this is all the background going on in my mind while writing my fic!

🌹: evie is charismatic asf and finds it super easy to befriend people!! that doesn't mean she tries to befriend everybody, though- in fact, she's picky with friends (that sounds bad i promise it isn't) because The Vibe Needs To Be Right. people can piss her off but she never makes enemies- however, she'll speak up if someone is bein ridiculous or annoying, so people will get mad with HER. she doesn't have anyone she hates, she's chill. nd she can talk to anyone at a party- but if she isn't into it, she'll vibe on her own or do what she wants.

🍒: evie doesn't really expect things from people persay- she just wants to be treated kindly, fairly, and she wants people to show her respect. and the people she's friends with/in romantic relationships with are the same way, because the people she surrounds herself with are also of that mindset. in friendships, she wants a friend, y'know? healthy friendships, fun, vibing, etc. in romantic relationships, she doesn't have a type, really, and she likes to mesh with people depending on the situation. she is versatile in many senses and can get with all the love languages. she just wants either fun (she doesn't strictly date to marry or anything) or love (again depending on the person). she isn't demanding, nor is she a doormat.

🍑: her room. listen evie isn't a homebody or anything, but her room is her creative space. and london, of course, where she grew up, but that's a bit more... broad. hmm... another is this little meadow she found (in england) where sh would go to sketch, nap, meditate, listen to music, and just lay in the sun. she feels a little bad about it, but that's what she misses most from home- tied w her missing her little brother and sister (they're nine and twins). her meadow, to her, was like. the freedom to just exist and observe and enjoy. sometimes she's confused why she chose idol life- it's restrictive, and not really her style- but tbh she enjoys it and wouldn't change it. anyway on the flip side, evie HATES being in really tall buildings. she isn't even afraid of heights!! i mean she can handle it, it's not too big of a deal, she just hates it for some reason.

evie has always had a strong self identity (for the most part) and has def gone through some shit (gifted kid burnout too omfg she was in advanced EVERYTHING but that shit kinda wears you out and her parents were horrible with school & her career). her biggest issues growing up? the pressure from her parents and basically just them shitting on her. they were mentally/emotionally abusive and she was really depressed during her adolescence. she doesn't have clinical depression or mental illness tho. she also didn't have MANY friends because her parents were horrible and wanted her to study nd not be a disappointment- which they said a lot. she started going out regardless when she was a lil older- not even sneaking out, just straight up walking out. her parents literally DRUG TESTED HER. but she is a social, bold person by nature so she wasn't having it. she has a higher sense of self worth now because of how far she has come and she doesn't bat an eye at her parents- in fact, she's mostly cut off from them. she's in SUCH a better place in her adulthood, in korea. her parents still don't support her career choice and do NOT stream ddd >:( she just worries about her little brother and sister... if they get the same treatment as she did, she WILL go batshit. she calls her siblings a lot, facetimes them, sends gifts and money- they love her and she is ITCHING to see them again. she was always close to them. anyway, she'd tell her younger self to not give a fuck about what her parents said, as much as it hurt. you can CHOOSE your family. she'd tell little evie to pursue her passions, and that she was gonna be doing great things one day. nd she'd tell teenage evie to smoke more weed 😌

🌠: evie's first friend was this kid from first grade who she doessn't remember anything about, she just remembers that they were her friend for a bit, and their face LMAO. she hasn't really lost contact with people persay? like during her nine months of training she couldn’t talk to them HEH and then apologized and it picked right back up. her girls in london MISS HERRRR and she misses them too :(

I’m very overtired and definitely not going to present this idea coherently but here we go ---- I was looking up stuff about summon mechanics for a different KH fic I’m writing and it occurred to me that Sora can be dense on occasion, but he is not actually stupid (bar DDD for some reason). If summons are presented to him as something related to his ability to connect with hearts, there’s no way in hell he didn’t try to summon Riku and/or Kairi at some point during KH1-KH2. And of course my first thought was that it didn’t work. Because even if it was canon that he’d tried it, it’s definitely canon that it didn’t work. But my next thought was - what if it did? More specifically, what if he managed to summon Riku during the events of KH2?

‘Cause we all know that Riku really really really didn’t want to be found.

And then I had to write it. Part 1 below the break. (It’s completely unedited be kind to me.) I’ll put it up on AO3 and FF at some point and then edit the links in here. Tagging as #summonAU for when I add more parts later

Just because something hadn’t worked before didn’t stop Sora from trying. A year ago, on long nights camped beneath strange stars, he’d clutch Mythril stones or smooth pebbles or shells that reminded him of home and call on all of his magic. He was trying to summon Kairi, reasoning that she couldn’t have fallen to darkness; that like Simba and Mushu she would retain some semblance of self. It didn’t work, of course, and now he knew why. You couldn’t call on someone who was already with you.

Of course, once he had her good luck charm, he figured that would have actually worked. He didn’t test it though. She was safe in Traverse Town, and then safe at home. He wasn’t about to endanger her just to talk for a few minutes. Still, it was a tempting thought.

No, now he was considering summoning Riku, trying to pull him somewhere safe even for just a moment. Shame held him back - for over a year his best friend had been stuck in the Realm of Darkness while Sora took a nap. He might have escaped, King Mickey certainly had, but then why would no one tell him what happened? Why wouldn’t the King tell him where Riku was? It was aggravating. He didn’t even have a clue to start with.

Camped on icy cold mountains, Sora decided to try again. He didn’t have a charm, or any object really, to call on his friend with, but that wasn’t about to stop him. He had his memories, and the scar on the back of his leg from when he was eight and Riku had chipped his toy sword on a rock a few days prior. Sweeping Sora’s legs out from under him, the jagged wood had caught, tearing a gash across his calf. Kairi had ripped up her skirt to try to stop the bleeding, and both of them had carried Sora to the boats. Riku rowed him home in his boat, with Kairi in her own behind them. The cut had needed stitches, though now it was only a small white line. Still, he reasoned, it was a piece of Riku he always carried with him. Then again, so much of him was from Riku, his best parries and lightning fast dodges, his snappiest one-liners and sharpest glares, the way his smile came easy when he was hurt and his never-ending quest to draw laughter out of even his most taciturn companions. Riku and Kairi were in the callouses on his hands and the belly of his laughter, the way he noticed trees and clouds and water and the endless catalogue of things he wanted to show them when the three of them could finally travel together. He shouldn’t need a charm - his friends were in everything he touched.

So Sora clutched his fist over his heart and pulled, throwing all his magic and power behind it, whispering “Give me strength!” under his breath like he had a hundred times before. He felt the spell go off, the way it rippled through the air. Exhaustion came right on its heels, sagging every limb. He opened his eyes, lifting a heavy head.

Someone was there.

The person was clad in a black cloak, hood up. They were impossibly tall and broad, far more of either of those things than the Riku he’d seen a year ago. Still, Sora was taller and stronger and broader himself. He supposed it wasn’t impossible for his best friend to have grown and changed so much in so little time.

“Riku?” he asked, peering across the dwindling campfire. The figure drew back a step, then turned around without speaking.

Sora took to his feet. “Riku… is that you?” he asked, padding over, steps crunching through the light snow.

“I’m not Riku,” the figure snapped, more hasty than short-tempered. The voice was familiar, but not in the way Sora wanted. It was too deep to be Riku, the cadences strange. He would have known Riku’s voice anywhere, no matter how many octaves it dropped. The figure continued, “Where am I? Why am I here?”

“I brought you here,” Sora explained, frozen where he had been when the figure had first spoken. “I was trying to see my friend. Who are you, if you’re not him?”

“I am no one,” the man replied, the heaviness in his voice echoing the exhaustion in Sora’s legs. “Let me go.”

“You can’t be ‘no one’,” Sora scoffed, crossing his arms. “Even Nobodies have names. There’s gotta be a reason you’re here instead.” This was more to himself, hand to his chin as he thought. The familiarity of the voice was bugging him. He couldn’t place who it was. And who else would he have been able to bring here? It didn’t make any sense.

“I am no one. Let me go,” the man repeated, clenching his fist. “You must have made a mistake. I’m not your friend.”

Something about that made Sora snap his head up. “Prove it,” he pushed. He’d never made a mistake summoning - he didn’t even know you could summon someone else on accident. This person was Riku, or was connected to Riku. Those were the only options.

“Your friend is gone,” the figure said, tone flat.

It hit Sora then, who the voice reminded him of. It sounded like Ansem. All of the air left his lungs; the realization and the man’s statement hitting him like a physical blow.

“You’re lying!” he snarled. He rushed forward, trying to get around the man and pull down his hood. The figure fended him off, blocking his hands, using the advantage of his height. After a moment of struggle, he reached behind himself and opened a corridor of darkness. He backed into it right before it slammed shut in Sora’s face.

Panting, shaking, Sora stood alone in the night. “You’re lying,” he whispered, the plume of his breath following the words into the dark.

So a friend of mine told me that given that we are now in 2020, it will be fun if I did a top 20 ships of the past decade for me and boy, did I thought was a good idea and I have decided, why not right? I will be listing them here and...if followers decide to read it...well...

You will quickly notice that probably that most, if not all the ships fall on the following categories: a) rare-ships that are obv not canon; b) ships that are obviously crack; c) ships that had wasted potential, the ones hinted but never happened or briefly happened in canon and writers decided to fuck up. There’s also only one...one RL ship and I am ashamed yet not, but had to list it because I spent a long time hung up on it so don’t judge me.

So yes list...

Before the list, no list is complete without some honorable mentions, these are mostly ships I either got into the hype to recently (not being dedicated for years as the one I will list) or had my fancy then lost it.

TOP 20 SHIPS OF THE PAST DECADE

20. Spuhura - Spock x Nyota Uhura (Star Trek original and reboot): Again this was another ship that I liked, since the original series, while everyone was Spirk this and that, I was like,’’yas, yas give me the sweet, sweet Spock and Uhura interactions’ and I was happy the reboot hooked them up, even if that ended dubiously but for a glorious moment, I had it.

19. Swarkles - Barney Stinson x Robin Scherbatsky (HIMYM): This is one of those ships I am bitter, bitter and salty about, there are more in this list in fact next spot is another one. But I loved it and I did think they complimented each other better than the wet noodle they stuck Robin with, they took the time to know the other, grown separately and then together, the episode where Barney proposed to Robin gave me all the feels and it was so sweet, and then fuck the writers deciding to do what they did. It’s no wonder the finale of this show is so hated.

18. Lotura - Lotor x Allura (Voltron Legendary Defender): When they announced a new reboot to Voltron I didn’t think much of it. I had fancied Lotor x Allura in the original series, as dubious as that was, but then I started to watch this Netflix thing and there was something between them, something more tangible and I was happy. It was this strong woman with an equally strong man encouraging her strength and not putting her in the box of the exotic pretty princess, like a certain dude, and wanted to know her mind and interests, they discovered things together and for a brief moment knew peace and I was here so happy that we were getting something good and then fuck the writers again that decided ‘Nah bro, you’re not getting it’ and you know to fuck off again. I will always have fan fiction I guess.

17. VinTi - Vincent Valentine x Tifa Lockhart (Final Fantasy VII series): This is a ship that I think started to like during my second playthrough of the game, I always figured the both could work, both having loved people that for one reason or another couldn’t fully love them back (Lucrecia due to damn guilt and Cloud because of Aerith) and both were mature enough to fit together, I just like them okay.

16. Helsa - Hans x Elsa (Frozen): Truly, I have never made it a secret that I really dislike this movie, I truly do. The only good things were Hans (which I am still huh at the ‘turns out he is evil’ I still call trolls) and Elsa (because of her damn powers) and then the next step was shipping them and honestly, he should have gone for the older sister lmao, they make more sense and there have very nice fiction out there.

15. Yuzuvier - Javier Fernandez x Yuzuru Hanyu (Figure Skating): Ahh, we have reached my dreaded and dark secret only RPF fancy. Be it broship or more, I always liked the friendship and camaraderie these two skaters had with each other, they were rink mates and rivals but above all friends. I was kokoro break when Yuzuru was telling Javi that he couldn’t do it without him and stop it you two. I just like them, they are wholesome.

14. Victuuri - Viktor Nikiforov x Yuuri Katsuki (Yuri!!! On Ice): And here we have another precious figure skating duo when I started to watch this series it was only because it was a figure skating anime and I love figure skating, I never expected to see a wholesome and wonderful healthy relationship to explode in front of me. The relationship between Viktor and Yuuri is just so lovely, so mature, they both worked through issues, grew from them and accepted them even and I can’t I love it. (Special mention here to Yurio x Mila, as is another ship I love from this series and so underrepresented).

13. Jonerys - Jon Snow x Daenerys Targaryen (ASOIAF/GoT): Regardless of the stupidity committed in the series, I have shipped them since the books, because I can read in between the lines and there are too many parallels between them and their journeys, ones that at will some point collide and bring them together in a way that will be worth it, so better make it count George.

12. Rhaegar Targaryen x Lyanna Stark (ASOIAF/GoT): Yes, mea culpa, I love tis ship and no one can shame me for liking it and boy has people tried to do so. Were these two smart of escaping like that and not saying a thing? Nope, they were so not. Was Brandon smart going to Kings Landing, knowing there was a crazy king with a penchant of burning people and demanding his heir's head? Nope, that was probably the stupidest move of all. Do I want to believe they loved each other? Why not? Martin has a penchant for tragic love stories, I know this ship is problematical for some, but I still love it and if you see spot 10 here, well I have varied tastes.

11. Soriku - Riku x Sora (Kingdom Hearts series): Come on, this is a given. Prior to Kairi appearing, it was clear Sora was Riku’s world and Riku’s was Sora, they were attached to the hip, the rivalry for Kairi more felt like Riku being jealous of Kairi and wanting Sora’s attention back. Then we have KH2 where Sora spent the whole damn game being all ‘Riku, Riku!’ and Riku doing his damn best to help him from the shadows, ashamed to be seen. DDD was more Riku protecting him and Sora leaning on him, even KH3 had Sora wanting to find and reach Riku, and then Riku going once again to find him by the end, so I am sorry but if there was a love story written here it was between these two.

10. Hannigram - Hannibal Lecter x Will Graham (Hannibal): Quite honestly, from all the things I ship, they are probably what one will consider the most toxic one I guess, which fair considering one part of the ship is a charismatic yet cannibalistic serial killer. But there was something in the way this relationship was developed by Fuller and brilliantly brought out by Mads and Hughs that just hooked me, their soft moments, their violent ones, it just somehow worked for me. I guess this is also one of the few canon ships that I have, funny enough.

09. Rivetra - Levi Ackerman x Petra Ral (Shingeki no Kyojin): Who will have thought that a series about human eating titans was going to give me one of my most everlasting and also shortlived OTP’s. Years can pass by and I will still love this ship, my heart will still believe there was something more between them, something that was realized or something that wasn’t, I don’t know, but I will forever love it and even though years have passed since she died, I always enjoy the hints here and there that he still remembers her or hints where we are supposed to do so.

08. Squinoa - Squall Leonhart x Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII): People can say whatever the fuck they want ‘the love story was rushed’ ‘we hate Rinoa’ (fuck you btw) but it doesn’t change the fact that Squall fell in love with her and that Rinoa helped him to open up, to not take things for granted and Squall taught her to be even stronger and conquer her fears, they helped each other grow and it’s what matters in the end.

07. Feanor x Nerdanel (Tolkien): This is probably, from all the romantic relationships that Tolkien has gifted us, which I have loved the most and held my attention the longest. They have the happy times, the ones that were full of joy when they met and fell in love and had their children, then we have the tumultuous times when he became too obsessed with this craft, the separation when he left with their kids leaving her behind in her pain and then their possible reencounter when he leaves the Halls of Mandos and how they might deal with it.

06. ItaHina - Itachi Uchiha x Hinata Hyuuga (Naruto): Both the heads of two of the most important clans of their villages, both with heavy expectations upon their shoulders that nearly broke them, only one was talented from the start and the other had to learn, yet they are also similar. Both love their siblings to a fault, sacrificing so much for them and their happiness, both seem to hate conflict yet know is necessary and both are devoted and loyal to a fault, they would have suited each other wonderfully, in an AU probably they would have gotten engaged, who knows, but it would have been wonderful.

05. SessKik - Sesshoumaru x Kikyou (Inuyasha): A ship that could have been but that we didn’t have. This is a ship that has been with me for years and I don’t plan to let it go, they were the best players (in a sense) in that game against Naraku, also probably the strongest, both level headed and smart, not easily intimidated and calculating, together they would have been quite a formidable force and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see that.

04. Bethyl - Daryl Dixon x Beth Greene (The Walking Dead): Another wasted potential and gone so soon, not to mention forever salty at the waste. The way they were being developed promised so much, in the few time he was with her, well, she taught him to have faith and it’s something that apparently still shows from times to times (I am not sure as I stopped with this show) and imagine how it will have gone if they had more time. Just a waste.

03. Romanogers - Steve Rogers x Natasha Romanov (Marvel/MCU): I have been shipping them for years, like honestly, and when the MCU was showing me the seeds of potentiality I was happy, not even that stupidity with Bruce killed my hope, as they still had this steady relationship, he trusted her and she trusted him, something that she couldn’t say of many, they had each others back and took care of the other...but again another wasted potential right there.

02. Huddy - Gregory House x Lisa Cuddy (House MD): I spent years, kind of, season after season watching the delicious and lovely UST between these two characters, watching them snark and then help each other, watching the ‘won’t they will they’ dance, waiting for the moment when these two will finally collide and my lord was it glorious when they finally did, and I was eager to see where it went, as they both seemed to be in relatively good places, but no once again forbid the writers to stop House from being self-destructive and another ship I had waited years was ruined.

01. Terrence "Terry" Graham Grandchester x Candice "Candy" White Adley (Candy Candy): And this is still my most important ship of the decade, I was forever bitter they never ended together and that their authors decided to make them suffer so much, but then Final Story came and all clues were pointing that aha they did found the other again and ended together as they were supposed to be, and before anyone says shizz, I did manage to read the novel and I do believe all hints were there to let us all know the identity of her husband was Terry and I am so happy.

And there it is, all the ships of the decade for me lol. Next stop, I should maybe make a list of mythos ships I like lmao.

KH3 Final Mix/DLC Wishlist

A lot of this is wishful thinking but they are still things I’d love to see:

Repliku interacting with Namine - perhaps their hearts have a conversation in the Final World before he passes on.

Riku being playable for a world or two, not just two battles. We can take pictures and selfies as him.

Namine interacting with Kairi and some indication she is stirring within the princess of heart.

We know Xehanort came to know about the outside world thanks to his future self. But we need to see how he left Destiny Islands and met his master and Eraqus. More flashbacks of his past with Eraqus would be welcome too.

What Lea and Kairi had to do during training in the Secret Forest. Having either or both as playable for this would be great.

Radiant Garden and Destiny Islands are explorable and they contain all of the areas they had in BBS and KH2 respectively. Maybe we even get to meet Riku and Sora’s families and Kairi’s adoptive family.

Twilight Town is expanded to include all of the areas from KH2.

Kairi reacting to Radiant Garden when she gets there and her memories of her birthplace. Perhaps she even meets her grandmother and we get to hear more of what the old lady knows about the Keyblade War, maybe even how she knows. Seeing the rest of Kairi’s biological family, if any, would be even better, considering that NPCs are plentiful in this game. Exploring the city as Kairi would be amazing. Any NPCs we hear could even talk about their experiences of the world falling to darkness or at least what they remember of it. Anything about people’s thoughts on rumours of Ansem of Wise’s experiments or Apprentice Xehanort would be a bonus.

Lea and Kairi talking about their pasts at Radiant Garden together. I wonder what Lea thought of Apprentice Xehanort? Did Kairi ever meet him?

What happened to Kairi and what she did or said between her getting taken away by Xemnas and her floating, unconscious, beside Xehanort in the Keyblade Graveyard.

How Riku and Mickey get their new keyblades. Yen Sid apparently forges Braveheart but I’d love to see how he did it. It is explained what type of keyblade Braveheart is, why it looks like a Kingdom Key (and if it is one, which realm it represents) and what this keyblade means for Riku. Kingdom Key D and Star Seeker merge to become Kingdom Key W; we are told what W stands for in Mickey’s profile or Jiminy’s journal.

Whether the norted Repliku we see is evil CoM Repliku from the past, a completely new version or a failed replica which got reused and upgraded. He’s not Data-Riku or KH1 Riku, we know that for certain. Whoever he is, this Repliku definitely has Riku’s memories.

Seifer and his friends appearing in Twlight Town. Roxas’ heart reacts to seeing them, Sora can interact with them and perhaps even enter a Struggle tournament. The Radiant Garden Restoration Committee, Cloud and Tifa appearing in their restored world and commenting on how great everything appears now that it is finally back to how used to look, Sora reuniting with them again. Heck, perhaps Kairi and Riku can even talk to them, seeing as we have never seen this happen. Sephiroth is here too; his story with Cloud gets resolved, Sora interacts with him and you can have a boss fight like in the previous two numbered entries.

LIngering Will and Namine talking. This conversation was read out by their voice actors at an orchestra concert in Japan but never featured in the game.

Roxas and Namine interacting. Maybe their hearts could speak in the Final World while Sora is there, for example.

Xion’s heart reacting to things and people. Sora may not know who the third heart inside him belongs to but it would have been nice to see Xion stir within him as well.

What Isa and Lea did as apprentices under Ansem the Wise, what kind of dynamics they had with the other apprentices and what made them want to become Nobodies.

More details on the experiments that Ansem the Wise, his apprentices and Xehanort’s Heartless did and what happened to the subjects of those experiments. Did Kairi ever hear the screams mentioned in the secret reports?

What legends say, if anything, about the black box and why Xigbar had the Organisation looking for it when the box appeared during the epilogue beside him. How and why did it get there?

Where the thirteen pieces of darkness went after the original X-blade shattered, whether the seven pieces of light dwell within the princesses of heart and if or how these fragments choose who will inherit their pure light once their hosts fulfill their purpose. Do those who pass on that pure light lose the powers they had as princesses of heart? Do their hearts go back to being comprised of darkness and light?

The reason why Xehanort needed thirteen keys to create the X-blade, if this X-blade is the original one which shattered centuries ago and whether the X-blade he forged is made up of the hearts of the seven guardians of light and the thirteen seekers of darkness.

What happened to the X-blade after Sora used it to close Kingdom Hearts.

Riku and Terra interacting. Aqua talked to Kairi and Ven spoke to Sora so these two should have had a conversation, especially since Riku flashed back to meeting Terra as a child in this game.

Riku remembering Xion, showing he knows who she is and interacting with her. He is the only one of the three (him, Lea and Roxas) who forgot her and did not get this. Riku should have, considering he met Xion again in DDD and asked her who she was.

We get to see data Twilight Town. Sora, Pence, Olette and Hayner never get the chance to at least have a look at it on the screen, let alone go inside and explore. The town is brought up and they get access to the computer thanks to Pence and Ienzo but then nothing is ever done after that and the plot thread is left hanging. On another note, it would be funny if the data versions of the characters from Recoded were there.

The reason why bug blox are back in this game, especially how the Organisation is able to use them, where they came from and why they look different to the ones from Recoded.

Your mileage may vary but Data-Sora, Data-Riku, Data-Namine and Data-Roxas could have appeared (perhaps on the gummiphone?) and Sora could have perhaps shown signs of starting to remember Castle Oblivion.

This is an interesting one but I’m dying to know if Xion and Repliku ever met, both being replicas. They could have been created at the same time or not long after the other. Who knows? Even if they never met, a conversation between the two would be very intriguing.

Ryan Reacts to Kingdom Hearts 3

Okay, so this is a mix of live reactions and post-world reactions. Lot of live reactions in the beginning and end, more sporadic in between. You can probably guess what I’m reacting to most of the time from the sequence of events.

Mmm dat orchestral Don’t Think Twice Needed a minute on the menu. Finally seeing it say KH3 was A Lot. HOLY FUCK WHAT A COOL INTRO The speed is the same as 0.2, with that sprint that kicks in. Will take some getting used to. The stained glass looks gorgeous though Nice touch of KH1 Sora’s jump animation changing to KH2 Sora’s Making choices again like the original. Vitality is probably health, Wisdom is probably magic, and Balance is, well, balanced. I’ll go balanced. (I’m on Proud, btw) Guardian, Warrior, Mystic. Same as the weapons in KH1. In that case, I’ll make the same choice I do there: Guardian. SORA HAS AN IDLE ANIMATION OH MY GOD BLOCK AND DODGE FROM THE START! Also this sky place is new for a Dive to the Heart (AND THOSE HOOOORNS, LISTEN TO THEM) The water looks great A four-hit combo instead of the usual three? Huh Scan from the start too Nice detail of Sora’s head angling towards the locked on target All this music sounds SO GOOD I’MMA NEED THIS SOUNDTRACK ONCE I’M DONE Ahhh that little soft version of Sora’s theme WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS KINGDOM HEARTS II.9 SHIT These Instagram-style posts on loading screens are adorable Oh damn, we get a LOT of abilities from the start. And this is on Proud! Dodge Roll, Air Slide, Aerial Dodge (formerly a Master Form ability), plus all the Flowmotion stuff Wow, THREE shortcut menus! 12 total! Wow, and a LOT more control over how allies use items. That can be very useful! Sweet, synthesis materials are back! Water is an interesting new spell. And being able to reorder the Magic menu is nice (though I only use shortcuts). Kinda glad the item art has stayed the same. Also hey, Wellspring is from BBS. And first AP Boost of course goes into Sora, as will they all. WOW USING THOSE IS WAY FASTER NOW Yooo that Underworld music with the Titans’ appearance Take a shot every time someone says “Sora, Donald, Goofy” Sora, Donald, Goofy counter: 1 HERCULES HAS JOINED THE PARTY “Team Effort: Always start battles with a team attack command.” Damn, what are those that this ability is FIFTY AP?! (Are team attacks that move we saw Sora and Goofy do in a trailer? The throw?) I like that tutorials are playable at any time Also I was worried Save Points might not return with that auto save message at the start ALSO THIS IS NIGHT OF FATE PLAYING IN THE COMBAT TUTORIAL Ooh, Panacea art is nice. (Panacea has only appeared as a command in games like BBS and re:coded, so it hasn’t had art before) *reads Ability Ring* Damn, if 10 AP is a SMALL boost, I can’t imagine how expensive abilities are gonna get (well, Herc does have that one 50 AP ability) Ultima Weapon returns, looks like Synthesis recipes are based more on collector’s goals than finding them. Looks like there’s 60 synthesis materials, sounds about right. Ooh, synthesis item rarities, types: soothing and pulsing are from BBS, writhing, betwixt, sinister are new. Looks like everything goes in Shards, Stones, and Gems. Ooh that’s a lot of Heartless. Hey when is Jiminy gonna show up? Gonna need to complete that Journal again. Oooh battle music has bits of the old Coliseum battle music. Sora, Donald, Goofy counter: 2 Environmental fire damage followed by Sora’s butt on fire limiting my actions. Neat. Okay, these have been live reactions so far, but I’m gonna stop doing that because it’s slowing my progress. “What the heck is Rage Form?” “OH. OH THAT’S A THING.” I keep seeing hidden Mickeys, I bet those are gonna be a thing with the camera once I get it. Also damn are they giving me a lot of ingredients for the cooking minigame I can’t play yet. So the biggest thing I’ve noticed about the new combat is that because they give you so many really powerful abilities (grand magic at higher levels, formchanges, attractions, team attacks) that are all basically free (are you hitting things with your keyblade or magic? Can you hit this specific enemy once? Can you wait for your teammate to give you a prompt?), the number of enemies in each fight seems to have SIGNIFICANTLY increased from previous entries. KH2’s level design this is NOT. Lots more nooks and crannies to search. Me approaching the gates of Olympus: “Is this Anor Londo?” Yay nostalgic Coliseum music! And oooh little environmental puzzles are back! Like from KH1! I forged Goofy a new shield! Aaaand playable Riku. I have no idea why they were so dodgy about the second playable character. This is only the third time Riku’s been playable. Anyway, gotta fight the Demon Tower again. Damn, Riku is WAY stronger than Sora right now. Wish I could have read his abilities (and moved shortcuts). Nice emulation of the death screen. Also hot damn, is that Repliku talking??? I guess Riku’s “other me” really could be Repliku. Awwwww yeah, Lea’s getting new clothes too! YEAH JIMINY! “Dream Heartbinder” So Heartbinders must be this game’s summon gems, and this one lets me use Dream Eaters. SORA’S THEME IS THE RINGTONE!!! Ienzo’s here, with a bit of OrgXIII music from CoM. HOLY SHIT THE GUMMI SHIP IS THE BEST IT’S EVER BEEN UPGRADEABLE KEYBLADES?! I guess that makes sense, considering they all have different formchanges. They want all of them to stay viable throughout the game. OH MY GOD, DEMON TIDE HAS SO MUCH HEALTH I guess the bosses have to with all these powerful attacks I have Does Hayner have a new voice? Olette sounds different too. Checked the wiki, all three have different actors. Pence sounds closest to his original though. So judging by the Dusks and Snipers, no more enemy-specific reaction commands. The Ducklings sell Gummi blocks now?? Huh. Whoa wait, the road out of Twilight Town’s Tram Common leads back to the world map? Can I NOT go to the clock tower in this game?? Man, Twilight Town felt really small. Hope the remaining worlds don’t, though they’ve certainly seemed significantly larger than the two I’ve been to so far. Also, totally called the Lucky Emblems, though I’m gonna keep calling them hidden Mickeys. I think Tou Story is my favorite world. Granted, I’ve only been to three, but still. The Gigas are super fun, Woody and Buzz look amazing, and I can’t stop whistling/humming along! AHHH CREEPY DOLL Lol, the Verum Nox poster even has a Square Enix logo. First death, the Gigas battle in the video game. GOD DAMN! WOODY dropping an amazing “The Reason You Suck” speech to Xehanort! “Unless you’re in the ~real~ Organization too? Good for you!” Damn, Sora! Also love hearing that music from Chain of Memories every so often Glad flowmotion’s jump isn’t as level-breaking as it was in DDD. Same goes for the attacks. Wow, so Rapunzel permanently leaves the party. Was wondering they’d just give her a different moveset like with Mulan/“Ping”. This is the first time a character permanently leaves your party. And of course, Marluxia. Who I didn’t think could or would return. And Vexen who rejoined willingly, which is, man. Not something I’d have done. Both Norted of course. And was Saïx missing his scar? Maybe he’s just Isa now. I could tell it was Unversed, and Flood specifically, in that first Monstropolis cutscene just from the sound of them spawning. That’s how I know I’ve put a lot of hours into this series. Monstropolis feels the most linear so far. Arendelle’s ice labyrinth is awesome, the level design gives me some light Dark Souls vibes. I like how there’s zero explanation for Sora, Donald, and Goofy being able to breathe underwater in The Caribbean. And by that I mean I would have liked even just one line to explain it. The ship combat isn’t as good as AC3’s and AC4’s, but it’s still pretty good for a one-world mechanic! The ship is a LOT more responsive than the AC ones. And damn, is this world open. Okay, San Fransokyo is gonna be a pain to search for chests and Mickeys. PRESS TRIANGLE TO SORA IS THE BEST REACTION COMMAND I HAVE EVER SEEN Jiminy telling people about summaries on the gummiphone is Square Enix saying “IF YOU DIDN’T PLAY THE GAMES, READ THE FUCKING SUMMARIES” Giant battle at the start of Keyblade Graveyard was cool, but hurt the frames, especially on the fake shadows. And just as I was getting hyped at the possibility of having Riku and Aqua as party members. Oh hey, just realized Riku’s keyblade has a Mickey keychain now too. “And so, as legend foretold, darkness prevailed and light expired...” “Your hearts will be torn from your bodies” “To move through time, you must leave your body behind.” THE FINAL WORLD?! Wait, Sora’s been here MULTIPLE times?? Okay, so the star talking about the person who’d miss them, whose heart has been taken by another’s? Strelitzia? Talking about Lauriam? Love and hate? Going back for fight after fight? Hm. Cloud or Sephiroth maybe? (Longshot, but it doesn’t sound like a khux character, or anyone else) Identical pair? There’s no twins in this series. Like walking alongside a mirror... maybe it’s not an literal identical nature? Same clothes, same food, maybe Xion?? “Nothing left to teach you”? Damn, that’s not much to go on. Maybe Eraqus’ and Xehanort’s master?? “Just friends... stepped back” Skuld maybe? “I’m gone... they’ve added another member” Could that be Xion? Wait, no, how could Xion be here, she’s still within Sora’s heart. Are these actual named characters we’ve met before? Or not? The one who was defeated and supposed to fade... Repliku?? But he’s with Riku now... Someone searching for their Papa??? Most of the characters in this series don’t have parents at all, so my only guess here is Pinocchio?? No way a Disney character ends up here though. I don’t think all of these are characters we know. Someone holding onto a sliver of memory, and a servant?? Yeah, these could all just have been ordinary people. Naminé?! What happened to Kairi??? Okay, so the darkness split them. KAIRI IS KEEPING SORA FROM FADING AWAY OH MY HEART “GO TO HER” SHE SAYS "That's not the official thank-you!" Lol Damn, this area is fuckin huge, why is it so huge?? A PORTAL?! A DDD PORTAL HERE?! Well this place is rad. I better see that weird Darkside at some point here OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH OH IT ROTATES THAT'S FUCKIN SICK God damn, this game's got some of the best level design of the series! Is... is this OUR Chirithy? “He doesn’t remember the past”? Although I guess it could be Marluxia/Luxord/Demyx’s too. Or Ven’s. My bet is that it’s Ven’s. DID SORA JUST TIME JUMP BACK A FEW MINUTES??? Aaaand did nothing different. So now we’re world-hopping like we did back in End of the World. OH WHAT IS THIS DIVING INTO STATIONS TO PICK A WORLD?!?! YOOOOOOOO Just Kairi and Lea are left. Haven’t hit San Fransokyo or Twilight Town yet. Guess they must be in those two. Last one is San Fransokyo. Lea must be here. Kairi’s probably gonna be the last. “Traversing hearts to reach worlds” That must be what I’ve been doing here. Not jumping between worlds, jumping between HEARTS. Was Sora just considering telling her he loves her? He should have. Wait, am I back in time? This already happened... OH SHIT! THE LINGERING WILL IS HERE! EPHEMER! OHHHHHHH HO HO WOW! OHHHHHH FUCK! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Congrats to all the lucky people who got their names in the game! PRESS TRIANGLE TO UNION X GIANT SHADOW MASTER XEHANORT IS TERRIFYING I like how Axel is holding his keyblade by the guard instead of the handle OH SHIT MASTER YEN SID! YOOOOOO! Okay KH3, I want to fight thirteen bosses now, you hear me? DAMN that Ancient Light finisher on Starlight’s Second Form is STRONG YOOOOOOO THREE BOSSES AT ONCE??? (I really hope this is as tough as they were before, but seeing as Xemnas was harder in 1 than in 2, doubt it) Went to help Mickey first, so I’m taking on Marluxia, Luxord, and Larxene Oh come ooooon, I barely got to fight them! Luxord’s out, 12 to go OH SHIT THE OTHER TWO Larxene’s done, 11 to go. With XI conveniently up next. Marluxia’s defeated once again. 10 left. Hey whatever happened with that comment of their ancient keyblade legacy...? Xigbar... might be gone? So maybe 9 left. Dark Repliku is defeated, and light Repliku gave himself up so the Replica could be used for Namine. That’s sweet. 8 left. YO actual time of day change! I like the door switches. Nice having little environmental things like this. Hm, Kairi and Lea one way, Aqua and Ven the other. Well that’s no contest, gotta go back up my girl Kairi! Mysterious new hooded figure??? Oh. Oh no. I think it’s Xion. D: Yeah. It’s her. *Xion stops Xemnas “YEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYEYYE YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH” *Roxas shows up “OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH FUCK” THE WHOLE GANG’S HERE YOOOOOOOOOOO Shout outs to Ienzo, Ansem, Vexen, and Demyx for helping Roxas return! WHY THE FUCK IS KAIRI GETTING KIDNAPPED A-FUCKING-GAIN, NOMURA WHY WAS SHE EVEN TRAINING, FUCK Okay, so Kairi and Lea/Axel are out, BUT ROXAS AND XION ARE IN OH HOLY SHIT, SORA SQUAD FORM UP!!!! I HAD TO STOP AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC FOR A MINUTE It’s all three of their themes! (Plus a bit of Another Side) THIS IS THE HYPEST SHIT Aww, Saix’s death mirrors Xion’s. AND THE SEA-SALT TRIO REUNITE! Saix is out, 7 left. Xion turned, 6 left. Vanitas fades again, 5 left. I know some people had hoped for a heel-face turn, but I knew it wasn’t likely. WHAT TERRA’S HEART WAS IN ANSEM’S GUARDIAN THIS WHOLE TIME. THAT THEORY WAS RIGHT! Terra-nort’s back to just Terra. 4 left. Just wanna say, I love that it’s Sora who gets to turn the tides of all these fights. Who’s dull and ordinary NOW, huh?? AND he’s still going! Oh boy, time for a triple Xehanort fight! UMMM NINE KEYS (but why are they No Name and not the X-blade?) OOOOOOOHHHHHHH THIS BLEND OF ANSEM, XEMNAS, AND YOUNG XEHANORT'S THEMES Guardando Nel Buio, Darkness of the Unknown, and Impeto l’Oscurito 1V3 ME, I'LL TAKE YOU ALL ON Young Xehanort returns to his time. 3 left. I like how we all agree to pause the fight whenever someone falls. Xemnas fades. 2 left. Ansem as well. Just 1 darkness left. WHAT THE FUCK, KAIRI NOOOOOOOOOOOO AH SHIT HE’S GOT THE X-BLADE AH SHIT HE’S GOT KINGDOM HEARTS Oh hey, everyone’s caught up. Donald: “You can’t do anything without us, Sora.” Me: “Donald, shut the FUCK UP.” Xion: “Kairi will be alright.” Me: “OH THANK GOD” Scala ad Caelum. Stairway to Heaven. It looks like a proto-Land of Departure. But the music is Case of the Foretellers from X Back Cover. Could this place and Land of Departure once have been Daybreak Town? Damn, Dark Kingdom Hearts is over the ENTIRE Keyblade Graveyard now Spooky twelve figures are spooky Why do they have the Organization’s weapons?! I love this return of Destati though They all had a shared HP bar? Scala ad Caelum’s world icon is kinda shaped like a heart Oh wow, full Inception Weird hearing Rage Awakened without the Lingering Will here “There is one sky, one destiny!” “DEEEESTAAAATI!” Ohhhhh shit Shout out to the heart in the floor design though And the figure in the middle has 7 points Classic Xehanort pose from the KH2 secret ending Aaaaand now he’s got ANOTHER Kingdom Hearts! GREAT WHOA HE FORCED ME INTO RAGE FORM DESTATI IN FULL FORCE WHAT A RAD FINISHING BLOW! The canon death screen, the heartbeat, Donald and Goofy calling from my controller! ONE BIG BLAST! So Xehanort sees himself as some sort of white knight? A templar to guide the masses with an iron fist? Yeah, no dice dude. Sora’s right, not your choice to make, and destiny is beyond your control. So Eraqus really WAS with Terra all this time. MARK HAMILL IS BACK!!! Xehanort just hands it over, huh? Wow, closure between Eraqus and his apprentices after all these years Eraqus and Xehanort mimic Sora and Riku from KH2, and pass on. Go get her, Sora. HIKARI ORCHESTRAL Ven met his Chirithy! Lea’s finally wearing his new outfit. Aw, Xion looks good too! And Isa’s here! Naminé is back too! And I bet the Namine/Riku shippers are happy! AWWW They’re all hanging out at Destiny Islands! Look at them all being friends!!! THERE THEY ARE! WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT

Epilogue: XIGBAR HAS BEEN LUXU THIS WHOLE TIME?! WHAT WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?! You know while watching Back Cover I was like “Man, the Master of Masters really talks like Xigbar for some reason.” BOY DOES THAT MAKE SENSE NOW So what was it about Ava’s role with the Dandelions that led to her absence here? AND WHAT’S IN THE GODDAMN BOX Is it a Book of Prophecies? Something else entirely? In any case, I doubt Maleficent and Pete would be able to get it away from them all. Secret Ending, “Yozora”: Ooh, “Another Side, Another Story” vibes right off the bat. SORA! And... Riku? Well this is just Japan. Wait, the guy from Verum Rex? And a black coat, who’s probably Xigbar/Luxu or the Master of Masters? After watching, a friend informed me that Riku is in Verum Rex. And Sora’s dead. Cause he’s in TWEWY’s version of Shibuya, since that one building said “104.” But which one is the black coat in? It could be the Master of Masters dead, in Sora’s world. Or Xigbar/Luxu, still watching things.

I have no idea what comes next. But I am excited.

An Incredibly Stunning Stancest Commission!

An absolutely gorgeous painting I commissioned from the insanely talented and infinitely kind @grapefruitbomba!

I haven’t been able to look away - this is easily a million times better than the image I had in my head! If you’ve had or currently have an idea that you’d like to see brought into the world, I highly recommend checking out Bomba’s commissions page! Bomba is just the sweetest person, and really puts so much care and effort into your piece - it’s incredible! Your vision couldn’t be in safer hands :)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BOMBA OH MY GOD!!! This really is one of the most gorgeous commissions I’ve ever received! Thank you, thank you, thank you SO MUCH!

I know I’ve already said it quite a few times in email and in messenger during your stream, but oh my goodness that SKY! Your use of color there is just so spot-on and all the colors you chose really make the whole thing just so stunning! SUCH a beautiful sunset! I LOVE the highlights in the clouds, the halo effect around the Stans’ heads and the bright line of the horizon in the background. And the small smattering of stars was the perfect touch. I’m such a sucker for the idea of Stan acting playful in a relationship with Ford and taking a particular enjoyment of surprising him with kisses, and you really delivered! I just ADORE how happy and carefree they both look! Laughing and in love on the ship of their dreams - I couldn’t ask for anything better!

I’m SO glad I was able to peek in on one of your streams so I could watch you work! It’s just the coolest thing to me to be able to watch all the little details that go in to making a bigger picture like this one! I really have very little training or education in art, so unfortunately I’m not able to articulate what I like very well or accurately (sorry!), but I really enjoyed watching you blend colors and make things more defined and highlighted. There’s so much detail in this, and it was just the coolest thing to be able to watch it all come together! I’m so glad you stream your drawings and that I was lucky enough to be able to see a bit of mine! :D

Can you Forgive Me, Friend?

A songshot of remorse and forgiveness between the Demon Brothers and my OC, Rowan.

Rowan hadn’t come out of her room in six days, and today marks a full week. The shock of being killed because of what she was, who she was, all by the one demon brother whom she thought just wanted to talk things out with Lucifer, isn’t an easy thing to get over. Every day she heard one of the brothers- maybe two of them, knock on her door in varying degrees of force and worry, begging her (or ordering before being pulled away) to come out and just talk to them.

Giver her a fucking break. Rowan had died, and sure she came back thanks to her ancestor, but because of said ancestor- who, by the way, is the brother’s dead sister- she came back without any lasting effects... except, yanno, being DEAD doesn’t fade from memory that easily.

Rowan sighed and curled up in the darkest, warmest corner in her room, the Little D's she'd managed to win over from each of the brothers gathering around and churring sadly as their mistress plugged her earbuds in to listen to music.

Belphegor sighed as he rolled over in his bed- after the radio silence from his brothers, even Beel, he had begun to think on what he had done. He had continued to lure Rowan up to the attic, be it in dream or physically, but as her visits became more voluntary, Belphie had begun to, dare he say it, enjoy the human's company. He had been trapped up there without anyone save for Lucifer knowing, and even though his initial plan was to kill Rowan and escape the attic, even towards the event leading up to his claws ripping into her chest he had… hesitated.

Even if he felt doubt, seeing the fear that turned warm dark chocolate eyes to sludgy mud, he followed through with his deed and ripped Rowan's heart out- literally- with his own hands.

Thinking back on a song Rowan had showed him when she was warming up to him, giving him trust he realized now he didn't deserve, as his chest tightened painfully, he realized with a resigned sigh that, for the first time since falling, he couldn’t sleep. Pulling out his DDD, he put his headphones over his ears and rolled over in the sheets, pressing play, unknowing that six others in the house had the idea to listen to the same song as well.

Lucifer's wings flicked as the guitar came in on the song, he listened to on his DDD, narrowing his eyes as he absently mouthed the words of Thell, remembering himself attempting to apologize to the human who had tried to do her part, to reconcile two estranged brothers despite it being none of her business. Instead, every time he sounded unsympathetic to her plight.

I~ I've been keeping secrets from you dear, There's things in me I'm scared that you might fear… The crack goes in the ground…

Closing his eyes, Lucifer could feel the emotions at the forefront of his being. The ache of wronging someone he especially treasures and considers his family as much as the others was strong, and a sudden zig-zag like a fissure or crack in the earth split through the plateau of his emotions. He never wanted Rowan to see that side of him, but his pride just wouldn't have her undermining his authority, and put her in her place.

In her room, Rowan mouthed the words to Smith's line, remembering when Lucifer wouldn’t stop prying into her trust issues not knowing he was trying to help her and instead figuring he was looking for weaknesses.

And you, you've been coming closer to the edge, Wondering what goes on in my head? And so I shut you out~!

Mammon couldn't care enough to count his money right now. He had failed to protect his Human, the first one he was actually happy to have been forced to watch. He saw her like a little sister, and it wasn't because he had found out that Rowan was descended from Lilith. Rowan was the scapegoat in the Human World in her workplace and her home, much like him in some ways. Everyone expected her to be the bigger person, but she cried, raged, yelled, creamed and laughed like everyone else… Mammon didn't want what Rowan and he had to end…

And I guess that we don't mean to be falling apart But you will always have a special place in my heart I never wanted this to end, can you forgive me friend?

Rowan stood and began to dance, spinning around as she sang to the shared lyrics. Just down the hall, Leviathan was listening to the sing, his tail flicking as he gazed forlornly at the anime he wanted his best friend to watch with him… if he weren't such a yucky otaku and a weak shut-in, maybe he could have helped Rwan when she needed it the most… if he wasn't so mean to her in the beginning either, maybe she could have relied on her more, before it came to her hiding from them all…

Rowan glanced at the gaming controller on the ground sting by a bag of unopened chips that Beel had picked out for her before everything went to the Human Realm in a handbasket… well, even her rightly-felt anger couldn't be directed fully at the Otaku and the houses sweetest sinnamon roll. Rowan reached out to pick up the chips, remembering nightly game and chow sessions with Levi and Beel. Tears filled her eyes, tears of fear and frustration as she realized that things might never go back to how they were before.

And I, I promised you that we would never change… That you and me would always stay the same, How I let you down…

Beel sat in the living room, a full platter in his lap- it hadn't been touched since he had prepared the foods. His work-out earbuds were in, unknowingly playing the song that his other housemates were playing as well. He felt hungry, but couldn't bring himself to eat anything on the plate. Then he realized he didn't want to eat it unless Rowan was there beside him. He felt almost disgusted with himself; when Rowan was being attacked, he didn't move to help her at all. He had been torn between Rowan and his twin, and the fact that he couldn't choose brought flashes of the War every night since the human had barricaded herself in her room.

And I guess that we don't mean to be falling apart, But you will always have a special place in my heart… I never wanted this to end, can you forgive me friend?!

Asmo stared at his vanity dully before letting his head fall into his arms. Just like in the War, he had been useless. His family was falling apart once more, and this time things may never be the same again. Looking in the reflection, he caught a flash of his clothes splattered in blood, Rowan's body at his feet, and he borderline screamed, flinging a fist out and shattering the mirror to dispel the illusion.

In his library, Satan was cradling a cat that Rowan had snuck into the house for him, a beautiful golden Egyptian Mau with emerald green eyes. Was one of the reasons Rowan didn’t call for even him because he got enraged when she had initially refused to form a pact with him? Was that why she was avoiding not just everyone, but him?

Belphegor stared up at the ceiling, speckled with glow in the dark stars and clouds from the Human Realm that displayed the constellations he always loved to watch. His palm came up and gripped his jacket harshly, twisting the cloth in his grip as his heart squeezed painfully at his past act(s). Maybe it wasn't the humans with ugly hearts, but Belphegor…

So can, can you forgive me friend? Can you forgive me friend for breaking us apart? 'Cause in the end, I didn't want this to end… Can you forgive me friend? Forgive my ugly heart!

Rowan sat against the door in a flashback as each of the brothers showed up on the other side one by one, their apologies becoming more and more desperate as time went on to where they were now. Even Belphegor became sincere and had even cried on his knees on the other side of oak.

One by one, the girl opened the door to Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, Asmodeus, Beelzebub, and eventually even Belphegor and Lucifer watching tears fall from the first six as they told her they never meant to cause this between them- or in Belphegor's case he realized that he was so wrong, something Rowan could see he was sincere form with the almost racoon-like visage he sported, and however she she wished, they would try to make this right.

As the brothers apologized, rowan could see that they were painfully sincere. It wasn't the sincerity of someone who was half-assing the apology, like I'm sorry you feel that way or I'm sorry I got caught. They never wanted this friendship/relationship between them all to go down in flames like it had.

Can you forgive me, friend?

Their apology asked…

Rowan's frown had lessened at each of them, even Belphegor and Lucifer, and she gave a painfully sad nod.

"Yes…" was her reply.
