It has been an exciting time on campus over the course of the past week or so. With the visit from ESPN's College GameDay, to the "Miracle on the Mountain" win in the football game, there's been a ton of energy displayed. Yet, although it's fun to watch, there is a certain element that causes one to get caught up in all the hoop-la and forget our course. A verse which is ever on my mind is Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Do you get overwhelmed with the world around you? Do you feel like you are losing your connection to God? We are reminded again, and again, in the God's word that this can happen. As Jesus told the Pharisees, "You are of this world, I am not of this world, you are from below, I am from above." When we find ourselves swimming along with the current of life, we should be careful to not get caught up in the rapids that will soon come. Yes, enjoy life, but be mindful that the farther you go into the joy of "This World," the farther you will find yourself from God. Seek Him with all your heart, and through the lens of faith, joy will come in the form of better Godly entertainment and adventure. (Exodus 9:16) Don't confuse placement with purpose. As God's children we can become confused with what He's doing in our lives when we have too much attention focused on His hand. When our attention is on God's hand, we're more concerned with what He's going to give us instead of what He's doing in us. A placement is something or some place better than the current, but there are some people God is preparing for a purpose, and that's what He wants you seekHim for. Placement will come in its seasons. The season came for the Children of Israel to leave Egypt, and enter into the promise land - an 11 days journey. But it took God 40 years to prepare Moses for this purpose. The time came for Isreal to be ruled by a king instead of Judges but it took God 15 years to prepare David for this purpose. One must always have a hunger for God and the things of God in order to fulfill their God given purpose. He is the one who makes a person great! We must be willing to take our eyes off His hands and desire more of Him intimately, even when we're broke, frustrated, lonely and stressed out. We must learn to let God have His way in all areas of our lives, including during those moments we don't feel like it. Everything plays a part in order to prepare you for your purpose. Do you feel God is calling you into a purpose? Does the constant spiritual warfare you face ever make you wonder what the enemy is trying to keep you from? ad·dic·tion /əˈdikSH(ə)n/ - the fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity. While a slice of hot, fresh homemade bread is probably not something most people would consider an addiction it can be quite alluring to the senses. But this is how easily we are led astray in the world. At first it's a harmless slice of heavenly, honey infused warmth lightly covered in real butter in your mouth, then the next thing you know you're piling globs of preserves on one toasted piece after another. Or even worse, the addictive drug known as nicotine, whom some say is more addictive than cocaine. People try to cover up their use until they become deceivers of the truth to themselves, that it is slowly killing them. Some become sucked into vaping thinking it to be harmless, but like the slice of bread, soon find themselves adding more and more chemicals until they quickly start down a slippery slope of greater addictive substances than just nicotine. The nature of deception takes over and soon leads to other areas of their lives until they can no longer stop. Paul warned of this when he wrote, "Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness." While here, Paul was referring to misinterpreting the scriptures, the same could be said of misreading delights of this world. Pleasures of the flesh were created by God for our enjoyment but when allowed, our fallen nature can easily take over and turn a thing of beauty into a sin.
