Seijou 4 week

(Well I was planning to do the whole of seijou 4 week but depression is an ass so have a day 2 prompt 2 days late instead)

DAY 2 - DETENTION

Honestly, he was so past this.

He was pretty sure that the teachers had some sort of grudge against him, because this was his fourth detention in two weeks and he hadn’t even done anything bad. Yeah he’d been late for like 90% of his classes and had slept through most of them, but this time there had been no bad-mouthing the teacher or shoving other students - he’d thought he’d been pretty good! And yet he walks in only thirty minutes late for one lesson and he's handed a detention slip before he’s even got to his seat. It was pretty unfair. At least he’d shown up! He could’ve just not gone to his boring history class but no, he’d decided to be normal for once and actually turn up this time. And what does he have to show for it? A fucking detention slip, that’s what. He would not be going to another history class whilst he was still in high school, that’s for sure.

Matsukawa threw open the door unceremoniously, slouching into the room and dumping himself in his usual seat at the back of the class. The supervising teacher looked almost as bored as he was as he set down a sheet of paper on Matsukawa’s desk before stalking back to the front of class and leaning on the front desk. He didn’t say anything though, which Matsukawa thought a bit strange - normally teachers were all too eager to get this over and done with.


“Um, not to be rude but can we get this thing started? I kind of wanna go home.”

The teacher looked up with an expression of pure disinterest, “We’re still waiting on one more student.”

Just as the teacher spoke, the door to the classroom opened, and in walked the aforementioned student. He was well built, with an angular jaw and short brown hair spiked to perfection, as well piercing brown eyes that seemed to glare at everything - or maybe that was just because of him. He directed his gaze at Matsuakwa as he walked in - taking him in in all his pierced and smirking glory - before barely concealing a roll of his eyes and sitting down as far away from him as he could possibly get. Matsukawa snorted - so his reputation had managed to reach even students he didn’t know, huh?

“Ah, Iwaizumi there you are. Right, let’s get this over with.” The teacher began, setting a sheet on the boy’s desk and rattling off the rules quickly and easily for the benefit of the newcomer. Matsuakwa doubted he’d have bothered if it was just him, he knew the supposed rules backwards and made a habit of breaking at least one of them during every detention session.

Once the teacher had finished he sat in his chair and proceeded to not pay attention to anything they were doing. Perfect. Matsukawa leant back in his seat, wondering if an hour was enough time to take a proper nap. He closed his eyes, figuring he may as well get started.

He was unsure if he actually napped or not, but one thing he did know was that the slamming of the door as the teacher left the room woke him up out of his comfortable daze. He scowled at the teacher’s retreating figure through the windows, before leaning forward to rest his head on his arms and try again. However, his eyes fell on the other boy across the room from him - diligently scribbling down on his sheet of paper - and a small started to crawl across his lips.

He decided to have a little fun.

“Oi.”

The other boy didn’t move, didn’t even make any acknowledgement that Matsukawa had spoken. For some reason, that pissed him off a little.

“Oi!” He repeated, slightly louder this time. The boy stopped writing for a second, before opting to completely ignore him and continue with his task.

“You got a pencil?” He said even louder, knowing that the boy would rather risk answering than a teacher hearing them. 

The boy barely even glanced at him as he spoke, “We’re not supposed to be talking.”

Matsukawa knew his type: goody-two-shoes, smart in school, probably only here because of a misunderstanding and felt like he was the victim. He’d seen plenty of them come and go during his many stints in detention, and he was so done with their desperation to hold up their perfect rep, and the way they looked down on the so-called ‘problem children’ like him just because he happened to get told off a lot. Yeah, guys like him really pissed him off.

“We’re not supposed to break the rules either, but here we both are, in detention. Now are you gonna give me a pencil or not?”

“No.”

“Why the fuck not?”

“Because you didn’t ask nicely, and we’re not supposed to be talking.”

Matsukawa snorted, “What are you my mum? You’re my classmate, not someone I want to impress, so I’ll say what I want thank you very much.”

“I’m also a human being, and I don’t like answering to rude people. So if you want your pencil learn some manners.”

Matsukawa rolled his eyes. “Okay Iwa-chan, can I please borrow a pencil?”

And finally, the pencil was halted in it’s race on the paper, “Don’t call me that.” He didn’t turn around, but judging by the tension in the other boy’s shoulders Matsukawa knew that he was pushing his buttons (and if there was one thing he loved to do, it was push other people’s buttons).

“So mean Iwa-chan.” He simpered, pouting.

“I told you not to call me that.” Iwaizumi turned around, and Matsukawa could almost feel the heat in his glare. He found himself a little distracted if he was honest, Iwaizumi looked very...intimidating.

He played it off with another smirk, “Now now, watch that temper. Wouldn’t want the teacher to sign you off for another detention when he gets back now would we?”

“If you’d shut the fuck up, then he wouldn’t have to.”

“Iwaizumi!” The teacher yelled as he walked back into the classroom with a steaming cup of coffee in his hand, the disapproval evident on his face, “I’d expect that sort of language from Matsukawa, but not from you. I’m very disappointed. See me back here tomorrow for another detention, see if it can’t straighten out that temper a little.”

“But sir-”

“I don’t want to hear it Iwaizumi, you use foul language you get detention, those are the rules.”

Matsukawa was grinning like a child. For once he got to witness someone else being told off instead of him. It was quite refreshing actually.

He waited until the teacher had sat down and gone back to his work before muttering so only iwaizumi could hear, “Tut tut, naughty little Iwa-chan, swearing like that in front of the teacher. You ought to learn some respect.”

He saw something flying at him out of the corner of his eye, and found himself unable to react as the projectile hit his forehead with deadly accuracy before clattering noisily to the floor. He looked over at Iwaizumi, a little shcoked when he saw him half out of his seat and the pure anger written into the frown that pulled at his face. He glanced towards the floor to see exactly what the idiot had thrown at him, and saw a pencil lying innocently atop the floorboards.

“Here’s your fucking pencil.” Iwaizumi spat, sitting himself back down with a huff.

Matsukawa smiled as he scooped up the pencil from the floor, listening to the teacher reprimand him for a second time today and wondering if maybe the guy wasn’t so bad after all.
