We are officially in a Severe Drought status.

The grass is so crunchy and dry right now. A total burn ban is in effect for my county. But gusty winds aren't helping the wildfires that are already going.

Come on rain.

Adopt a spot garden after a hot dry summer…severe drought… the milkweed for monarch butterflies lookin great, artemisia happy, the garlic chives are just starting to bloom. The rose rugosa which had a tree cricket again got a good pruning. All the dead pricklies were removed…sigh… thanks for the hellos and well wishes to those who greet me at the stoplight.

Our town is experiencing severe drought and has issued water restrictions. The soil in this little median strip is hydrophobic and does not absorb water from sky or watering can. While I cannot change forecast, I can change the soil conditions. Today I amended the soil by stirring in some fresh garden compost and topping it with straw and watering with a bucket of gray water... Despite the drought and the traffic, nature sent messengers of health with the sound of a cricket from the Rosa rugosa and bumblebee ascending from the calendula, and a couple of yellow jackets reminded me to observe and move slowly. That’s it for now.❤️
