76 Marin Headlands Line on Golden Gate Bridge, June 13, 1976. SFMTA Photo | SFMTA.com/Photo
Photo by Bill Owyang, Public Utilities Commission Photographer.
Sadly, the 76X, the successor line, has not been reinstated after it suspension in early 2020, so it's not currently possible to take a weekend visit to the Marin headlands by public transport alone. It might well be the last route brought back, but I really hope it makes it at some point.

My comment to the SFMTA on the Geary project.
Director Tumlin, and MTA Directors, thank you for listening to us today.  I’m Andrew, I live in the Haight Ashbury, and I’m speaking in favor of building the Geary transit lanes now.  But today, I’d like you to think of someone else: the babies.
In particular, think if you will of a baby, conceived in joy and celebration of the passage of Prop K in 2003.  Their parents would surely have expected to take her on the Geary Bus Rapid Transit project that voters approved. And yet, two full decades later, we are still debating it - and debating a pathetic, watered-down side-running design instead of the center lanes we approved.
That baby is now in college.  She’ll turn 21 in August of 2025.  She’ll want to take the 38 Rapid to Tommy’s for her first official margarita, all the way from Montgomery in red lanes.  Does anyone honestly think that if we delay now, she’ll have that chance?
I urge you to approve the Quick-Build with NO FURTHER DELAY.  Do it for the Prop K babies, so they can turn 21 in style.  Thank you.

A motorist drove into a Muni bus shelter for the second time in a little more than a week, this time on Fulton at Park Presidio.
A letter-writing campaign calling for a safer Fulton Street was already underway in the wake of a motorist killing an elderly man crossing the street at Fulton and Arguello.

To SFMTA,
My name is WB. I have lived in the Fillmore Neighborhood of D5 all my life and I’ve worked at Bella Smile in Laurel Village for the last 2 years. I hope to continue to be a prideful resident of San Francisco but with the encroachment of Hayes Valley commercial success in the last 2 years, it has been difficult. Streets are being zoned for 2hr parking and it is unfair for parking violations to take a huge hit on my income. The other night when the news presented a pie chart of SFMTA fiscal budget and parking violations made up most of this department's fiscal gains; why is my city preying on me?
The nature of my letter is to confront my large fine amount and to ask for a better understanding of what is accessible to an SF resident with a car who is just parking her vehicle while I am at work. I have been ticketed for parking within 1 block of my destination over 15 times and have been towed twice. I've had to pay up to $10,000 dollars in parking tickets and ‘violations’
Everyone is aware that SF parking tickets are $100 and I want to state that there are loopholes to paying these outrageous prices that I do not qualify for. Today, I am writing this letter to whoever it may concern at SFMTA to advocate for myself in hopes of receiving information from a clerk who knows of a permit I should look into.
Your Dutiful Service is appreciated

Fines, fines, fines! Fine! Goddamn the SFMTA. They kept pummeling me with tickets the last month even though I had insurance, reg, and smog. Been ƃuıʞɔnɟ waiting for the DMV to send me the ƃuıʞɔnɟ sticker only to find out they’d been ƃuıʞɔnɟ sitting on it. I call the DMV and was told they OWE ME. Meanwhile I owe the SFMTA HALF MY ƃuıʞɔnɟ PAY!
Two tickets of four weren’t even on my windscreen so I never knew about them! I’m being drained dry trying to do things legally. But goddamn! I keep jumping through their ƃuıʞɔnɟ hoops only to find I should have asked how high.
It’s no longer worth doing things legally. Time to start pillaging and stealing to get ahead. Because if what they’re trying to do is kick a person while they’re down, it’s time to start hitting/striking/burning/destroying back at the DMV and the SFMTA. All they’re doing to me is pushing me closer to another episode. Goddamn them.
They steal from me? I will find a way to steal from them.

Elevation profiles of Muni bus routes, an interactive visualisation on the SF Chronicle, in a news story about the 67 Bernal Heights, a bus that's not as impressively varied as the 36 (which climbs Twin Peaks) but which does go up a steeper path.

A new speeding ticket program is launching in San Francisco that will issue fines based on the income level of the driver.
Signed into law by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom in October 2023, the Speed Safety System Pilot Program authorizes California cities to issue tickets via speed cameras. The program also makes lower-income drivers eligible to have their speeding fines sharply reduced.
According to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), fines for speeding violations range from $50 to $500, but those with a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible to receive a 50% discount. Indigent or homeless individuals are eligible for an 80% discount on a speeding ticket.
Speed cameras launched on March 20 and are set to operate at 33 locations across the city. Only 12 of the cameras are currently operational, according to SFMTA. Violations begin when an individual drives more than 11 mph over the posted speed limit. There will be a 60-day no-fee warning period when no fines will be issued.
“No matter how you get around our city, you should be able to do it without fearing for your life,” San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a statement. “That is why I am proud that San Francisco is now the first city in California to implement automated speed cameras. Speeding is the number one cause of traffic injuries and fatalities in this city. It is my job as mayor to protect our residents and visitors, and that is what we are doing today.”
