bring college students together in one place and you can expect two things: drama and alcohol. tonight, these two things intertwine together in a game that isn’t new to any of them — truth or dare. call it a mandatory game at college parties or just a reason to make out with your crush, there’s something about this game and the drama it entails that draws people in, no matter how childish it might seem. at least to taeho, who junhyung had dragged along with him to join the game. while the older might grumble about how childish the game is, it doesn’t take much effort for junhyung to tug him along, almost as if he was secretly willing to join (and knowing taeho, he might just be). the two of them approach the group at the dining pavilion, junhyung’s face lighting up at the sight of the girls seated around the empty soju bottle, though unsure whom his excitement stemmed from seeing (read: jiwoo and hyunjoo). he jogs up to the group with an eager grin, leaving taeho behind so he could snatch the empty seat next to hyunjoo. junhyung notices danbi sharing a blanket with jiwoo, spurring him to grab an unused one next to him, pulling it over him and hyunjoo with a bashful smile. when everyone took their places, he leaned forward to spin the bottle, watching it spin in its place for a few seconds before slowing down as it turns towards danbi and jiwoo’s direction. the bottle eventually stops, with its nozzle pointing straight at danbi. junhyung cracks a mischievous grin, clapping his hands together as he turns to face his best friend. “truth or dare?”

it was a tame saturday night by all regards. it’s not that taeho didn’t indulge in the simple pleasures of your average twenty-two year old. in fact, despite it being too ‘mainstream’ for his liking, he frequented campus parties here and there for their entertainment value and endless potential. alcohol, pent-up emotions, and hormones thrown together in a high pressure cooking pot like seongnam truly made for the best content for a bystander like himself. and more importantly, it only ever confirmed his conviction that all these ‘elite’ cookie cutters and snowflakes were flocking to a one-way route to crash and burn. but hey, he’ll give it to them - it could be a little fun sometimes.

but tonight he decided to spare himself of the debauchery. it had been a particularly exhausting week (and he had to call his sister about something, which was always more emotional labor than he ever signed up for), and for once in a blue moon, he didn’t have the energy to fight the currents. so he stayed in, dressed down in a simple white shirt and sweats, hair still tousled after the too-long and too-hot shower he’d taken. lights dimmed, movie on, and glass of red wine in hand, he lounged on the couch in lazy delight. yes, he deliberately chose to provoke and argue at the regular, but admittedly it was nice to just put a hold on the thoughts racing through his brain sometimes. and damn, now he just really missed his cat back home.

as the hour got later, the halls outside echoed with the drunken clamors of people returning to their rooms less and less frequently. he felt the drowsy calling of sleep grow intensely and was considering relocating to the bed when he once more heard the irregular beat of drunken footsteps and thuds outside again. just the late straggler for the night, he guessed. except was it just him, or were the footsteps growing ever so louder... and getting closer? “no way,” he muttered to himself, yet his eyes darted to the front door. he hoped it was locked, but since when did he make a habit of locking the door while in?

 — ‘ ⋆ ˚｡ she makes it a point to avoid the cheerful sophomore by the name of jo danbi. said point is difficult to achieve. everywhere she turns, she sees the younger female going back and forth between her various friend groups. and when jiah is listening in on conversations, it no longer comes as a surprise anymore when she hears the name danbi be dropped somewhere between discussions of the evil physics professor or who person a slept with person b? there’s also the matter than danbi and jiah are on the cheerleading team together and she can’t outright ignore the friendly greetings ‘lest she wants to come off as rude.

should she be surprised that she finds herself in this predicament? no. but is she going to internally scream at how unfortunate she is to end up in said predicament? absolutely yes.

for whatever reason, jiah finds herself back at the photography club booth. after the lovely conversation she had with son junhyung, one that made her nauseous and feel the need to take five consecutive showers, jiah told herself not to come back. but her curiosity had a mind of its own, and so she finds herself back the next day. as unpleasant the conversation was, she does genuinely want to look at the photographs more carefully. that junhyung kid does have talent, she’ll give him that.

she’s made sure to visit at a different time, to lessen the chance of running into the sophomore again, but she’s not sure what is worse. dealing with a sophomore who mostly thinks about girls and sex or dealing with a sophomore whose sunny disposition makes her feel the need to run her nails down a chalkboard. she wants to make a run for it, but jiah finds herself stuck, listening to danbi talk on and on about the photographs, as her practiced smile grows more and more strained.

yeeun laughs, a genuinely bright smile appearing on her lips. “does she even need to ask? of course she is.” her voice softens as she continues, “no one can compare to jo danbi, i’m so happy that i got to be friends with her. out of everything that little dickhead did, at least he did something right. and i know we’ve been through our ups and downs, and that it would’ve been much easier if she had just picked his side over mine, especially since she has known him since forever but she still never gave up her friendship with me. and i’m eternally grateful for that.”

— [ ♡ ]  it’s still a weird sensation for her, seeing the gold plaque on her desk and the sign outside the door that indicates that this room was her actual office. there’s not much that marks it as her own, her being missing from the grey walls. but there are small markers of her personality around the room. the pastel pink coasters on her desk, the duck sticky notes that she uses for everything, the bunny neck pillow that she uses when no one is around, and the various photographs of her friends and families (and so what if the frames are cat themed?). even with all the markers, yooa still finds it difficult to wrap around her head that she’s no longer an undergraduate student. now she’s the one who’s responsible for the education of various students, and she’s not going to to lie, she’s a confident person most of the time, but she still feels nervous that she’ll mess up one day. 

 it’s her office hours, but she knows that it’s very unlikely that an actual student would actually come in. and that is the reason why she is using her bunny neck pillow because even though she is meeting with someone today, danbi technically isn’t her student. so maintaining a strict professional atmosphere is thrown out the window. though it seemed like that never existed in the first place with their first interaction being danbi crying in her arms. but details. yooa slips her phone out of her pocket, sending the younger a text letting her know that she was in her office, but that danbi could take her time heading over. 

while she waits, yooa pulls out a few text books and various papers (her old notes, translated into korean because she took calculus in america). she knows that she didn’t have to prepare so much, but when she commits to something, yooa does everything to the best of her abilities. typical overachiever tendencies that her brother always teases her endlessly about. but even so, she’s thinks it’s one of her best qualities.

— IT WAS NEARING 4AM, but for joonki, the night is still young. and if the grin on his partner in crime’s face is genuine, than she is too. despite wandering the streets in the very late hours, they’ve only just begun, the male calling his friend DANBI up for a late-night adventure out of the blue. he’s sure the many random calls didn’t even come as a surprise anymore, as the female was his go-to in almost every situation that involved an adventure. he knew that she would be down, so it’s no surprise that only a few minutes after his original call he’s walking through the aisles of a 7 / 11, one hand full with a collection of snacks and the other holding an entire case of soju.

“ do you drink ? because honestly, think i might wipe this whole thing out - all by myself ! ” he’s ( hopefully ) joking, as the case he’s holding has 12 bottles within it, quite literally a recipe for disaster if he intends on drinking them by himself. he’s counting on danbi to have the other snacks he couldn’t carry, as he’s already struggling with what he has that his usual casual walk has been replaced for a panicked wobble. “ anyways, i’m thinking once we get everything out of here we can just see where the night takes us. just ... get into some sort of mess, like we always do. ” joonki had grown used to the areas around seongnam after enrolling, but the city’s many spots always seemed more interesting at night - especially when his friend was there to join in on the fun. “ so, what d’you say ? wanna join me for a little midnight sightseeing ? ”

do you have an ideal type?

“ can i say serena? she’s such a powerful woman, okay. sian, yoohyeon, yoori. danbi is so cheerful and sweet. women are ideal but that pushes some preconceived notion of perfection. the word itself implies that and that is not something i agree with. ” despite what she says, she’s still a sucker for 80s and 90s films, especially the romance ones and those are riddled with societal issue, which begs for more recent commentary.  

this much, she does have an answer for. because the ordinary idea of it, the original idea of it, what an ideal type is meant to describe   —   it’s essentially how she compared every person she’s liked to one. but it includes putting them on a pedestal and she doesn’t want to do that to anyone. not anymore. not consciously, if she can help it. “ i think more than an ideal type, wouldn’t it be nice to find a soulmate? someone who understands you. but this was meant romantically, right? ” a running pattern with the questions and gossip on campus, now that’s telling.

     it’s a gorgeous day. while still relatively early in the morning, the sun is already out, lighting everything in soft golden hues, even with the occasional cumulus cloud that passes by. and given that the campsite resides in the mountains, the morning is devoid of the blistering heat associated with early july. while the next few hours will be spent in a class, hansung finds himself being excited for what is to come. he’s proud of his abilities, but he’s still eager to learn more about the subject that he’s chosen as his minor. with his prized possession in hand, his second hand leica m6 rangefinder film camera, that he spent months saving up for, and his little protege ( @sgndanbi​ ) by his side, hansung knows that today will be a good day.

     “did you make sure to pack extra water for the hike?” he questions the younger, reaching out to ruffle her hair. he’s a bit cheeky when he does so, given that he knows that with her height, she will not be able to mess up his hair in return, but for what it’s worth, he makes sure to pat it down so that her hair is not sticking all over the place. “i hope you did because i will not be carrying you back if you happen to get sick from being dehydrated.” he’s only teasing of course; he’d carry her up and down the mountain twice over if she really needed him to do so, but hansung trusts that she’s come prepared to hike. and if she isn’t, then that’s fine too. there’s a reason why his backpack is heavier from the addition of extra water bottles and granola bars. hansung may seem like a crackhead at times, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t take care of those he cares about.

Today was going pretty well for Emily, she had gotten a paper back that she had gotten an A on that she had forgotten to do until the night before, she conviced a guy from one of her classes that she didn’t have enough money on her to buy a drink, so he did for her.  She actually had the rest of the day off and was just spending time in one of the common areas of the campus, checking through her planner to make sure that she hadn’t missed anything else.

Despite all that, she really just wanted to be left alone, as she was apt to do. Hearing a commotion nearby with some of the other students, she turned her head to see what the racket was.  Then she spotted her.  Miss Sunshine herself, Danbi. “Don’t let her come over here, don’t let her come over here...” she muttered to herself, turning back to her planer, hoping the other girl hadn’t noticed her sitting alone.  For some reason, Danbi seemed to think they were friends or something.

jongin doesn’t even have to try the key he’s had made of yoori’s door to know the lock has been changed, to know she’s definitely switched things out by now and he shouldn’t even bother testing it as he approaches the door. during the days when he and yoori don’t loathe each other too entirely and they can have civil, levelheaded conversations, she doesn’t seem to mind too much that he can come into her apartment and leave stuff for her. she knows he’s not going to hurt her or give her anything to worry about (if he was still a teenager, he might have left her a bucket of spiders or something, but that’s a prank he hasn’t employed for years now).

but at the moment, they are not in that socially mellow place, having just fought and yelled at each other during the drive over to dinner with his parents’ house, a few days ago. she’s not answering any of his calls and he’s not about to apologize for calling her friends nosy, ugly bitches. they are. he’s not going to tell her they’re not. he and yoori have an honesty clause in their relationship-- he’s not about to start lying to her now.

so he doesn’t even bother with the spare key as he steps up to her door, kneeling down in front of it instead, with a bobby pin and an unwired paperclip. it’s an easy enough maneuver, one he’s done before, but he’s surprised to find the lights already on inside as soon as it pops and creeks open. danbi still has class, doesn’t she? and he already knows yoori isn’t here. he steps into the main room, opening his mouth to say something--
