8 years. I’ve spent 8 years of my life with Shawn Mendes. Not particularly the way I wanted, but as a very close best friend. 3 of the years were spent wishing he loved me the way I loved him.
We did everything together; we went to the movies, award shows, doctors, parents house, and just about anywhere with each other. Then she happened... Abigail.
Abigail was an associated person in Shawn’s career friend group, somewhere down the line she knew Teddy. No one really liked her, which is hard for me to say considering I love almost everyone, but I just knew something was up the minute she walked into our lives.
Anyways, she hardly cared about a thing Shawn did, she just knew he was strictly famous and hot. The only time she appreciated Shawn’s career was when it was time for her to be in the spotlight with him, loving the flashing lights and curious eyes.
I’ve never felt like she was the perfect fit, and to be honest I knew she didn’t like me as well.
She knew I was Shawn’s best friend and that was never something she wanted. I couldn’t help the fact that I had known him for so long, trust me I know it seems suspicious.
She always made sure to be lovey-dovey with Shawn around to ensure I’d leave. She would give me the nastiest looks and if I tried to be polite she’d scoff. I mean I’ve met some mean fans or so-called fans, but she’s a whole new breed.
“Are you going to stare at the ceiling the whole time?” Shawn’s voice boomed beside my ear, it was loud mostly because I had been laying down with him. He had his head tucked inside the crease of my neck. “Sorry, just thinking,” I admit and he lifts his head up slightly.
“I’m okay.” I fake smile, but it hurt a lot. It hurt to lay here knowing that it’s been 3 weeks without seeing him, it’ll probably be longer next time. He always had something to do with Abigail, which is fine, I don’t control his life.
It burned holes into me because he would promise to show up, miss it, and the text me telling me about someplace Abi made him go. So I was now #2 in his life, he had already found someone and I wasn’t her.
“You’re hiding something from me.” He prods and I shrug. “I’ve just really missed you, it’s almost been a month since we’ve hung out.” I lie, well kind of, but it didn’t matter. He’d just apologize and tell me that it’s been hectic.
And I was right, it was almost word for word when he spoke. “No need to apologize, you’ve been happy and that’s all I ask for.” I look over to home with a smile, he seemed to believe it. “How’s your mom doing?” I sighed loudly. “She got out of the hospital yesterday.”
“You never mentioned it! If I would’ve known, I would’ve shown up.” He admits and I laughed, I sent him a message and he never answered. “Nothing you could’ve done to help,” I mumble, turning my body slightly to face him.
“I could’ve been there for you.” He pouts, I laughed a little to myself. “She was only having her routine dialysis appointment. Plus, you were with Abigail, I saw your Snapchat, I wouldn’t interrupt.” I put on another fake smile to hide my pain. He’d choose her any day.
“Shawn I’m home!” Abi’s voice yelled through the house, I tumbled off the bed quickly, Shawn didn’t even seem concerned. “Oh, she’s here,” Abigail said when she saw me in the room. “Hey, I was just leaving.” I smile and she rolled her eyes, I looked to see if Shawn saw it but he was on his phone.
“Okay, bye!” She had a hard time faking her excitement in seeing me leave. “Wait, you’re going? You can stay for supper.” Shawn leaped forward but I shook my head. “I’ll see myself out, bye Shawn, Abigail.” I start to walk off. “I’ll walk you out!” Abi exclaimed happily.
We got to the front door, my nerves were shot at this point. “Bye Abi.” I walk over the threshold. “Oh, and Y/n, if you ever pull that shit again about being in our bed, I’ll end you. Plus, isn’t it almost time to leave this dainty crush in the past, can’t you tell that Shawn has been continuously choosing me. He doesn’t want you, he’s been my boyfriend for a while now and he hasn’t batted an eye for you, it’s time to move on.” She slammed the door in my face, I didn’t think my heart could hurt but feel so much anger all at once.
——-
Almost another month had passed, I didn’t reach out to Shawn at all. I couldn’t bring myself to feel that hurt again, knowing Abigail was right about what she said. I was insignificant to his life.
So I took him off Snapchat to avoid their faces, unfollowed his Instagram and took it off my phone to ignore the comments on the pictures or to see them. It hurt more than anything I’d ever faced with him, we’d have fights and disagreements but we always came back together.
The phone rang beside me in the passenger seat, I reach over to grab it. When I picked it up, I saw my moms face on the screen. “Hey, mom.” I put the phone on speaker. “Hey baby, are you still meeting me at the dialysis appointment?” She asks and I smile a little. “Of course, on my way now.”
“Okay, we’ll be careful.” She hung up and I sighed a little, deciding to use my Bluetooth to play some songs on my phone. I was maneuvering the panels and all, Aftertaste playing because it was first on my phone. My heart aching some.
I went to put my phone into its holder when I heard loud screeching tires, then a horn to follow. Before I know it, my car was hit full force and my head hit the steering wheel before the airbag even had the chance to deploy. My head felt funny before it slammed back into the headrest. The pain started to radiate down my body, my hip hurt and my ankle was throbbing.
I tried to unbuckle but my seatbelt was stuck, I was pulling so hard before my vision became a little blurry. “No, no, no.” I was yanking at the belt. “Ma’am, are you-“

Week later
“So this is your new room.” Shawn lead me down a hall and I ended up at his music room.
“Shawn, this is your music room.” We stopped outside the door and he grinned a little.
“No, I moved that into my guest room and put the guest room in here. I know you’re sore and that you don’t need to make many trips on the stairs, so here we are.” He opens the door and it literally looked like he just transferred everything here.
“You didn’t have to do this for me, you shouldn’t be doing any of this for me at all.” I felt my heart warm a little when he put his hand at the small of my back so he could guide me into the room.
“I owe you more apologies than this act of ‘generosity’ can cover.” He puts my bags down on the dresser. “Yeah but I had faults too, I need to make it up to you somehow.” I plead and he shakes his head, pulling the covers back to let me sit down.
“You being able to heal is enough of an apology for me, I want to restart everything and do the things we used to.”
I smile up at him as he tucked me in like a little kid. I knew it wasn’t ever going to be the same because I loved him more than I did before, regardless of the pain and lies. I loved him because he was there to help me regardless of how much I had pushed him away because of his toxic ex-girlfriend.
“Well, I will allow that, if you lay with me and watch Arrow with me.” I use my puppy dog face and he groans loudly. “Wow, that is just too much to ask.” He slouches slightly before walking around the bed to get in with me. He connected the tv to Netflix and set it up, he put his arm around me softly.
I hadn’t felt this comfortable in a while, being able to lay against him as his curly hair tickled me softly and his hands rubbing my side gently. “I’m so glad they put out season 7 on Netflix.” He mumbled as he situated himself more.
We laid there for a while before my eyes grew heavy, the painkillers they gave me started to work. I had no idea I could feel so exhausted over something I slept the most time away.
Shawn could tell I was becoming loopy so he turned off the show and shifted to where he was cradling me. “Go ahead and sleep, they say when you’re asleep, you’re healing. I’ll be here for you.” He whispers as he brushed out my hair softly, my heart so warm and my stomach full of butterflies.
——
I woke up with a pain in my side, it felt like a cramp but nothing concerning. It was probably from where the seatbelt cut into my hip, it hadn’t really given me pain beforehand.
When I decided to sit up, the bed was cold and empty beside me, Shawn was nowhere to be seen.
But the bags that were on the dresser were gone and the closet door was open, I saw most of my clothes on hangers and my shoes filed in a line.
I would’ve laughed if he only filed the left shoes up because of the boot that is temporarily taking over my right foot, but he didn’t because he’s not as funny as I am.
Thinking of the boot, I remembered to slip it on before I stepped out of bed, I’m glad Shawn must have taken it off when I had first fallen asleep because I don’t recall doing it.
I hobbled my way into the living room in search of my best friend but he wasn’t there, so I made my way to the kitchen to see him sitting on top of the counter.
He had tears in his eyes and he was stirring something inside the pan so sadly, my heart hurt so bad and I was hobbling faster like Mad-Eye from Harry Potter.
“What’s wrong?” My voice was laced with concern as I stood in front of him, my voice caught him by surprise because he straightened up real quick.
“It’s nothing, I swear,” He was wiping his tears off rapidly while trying to act like everything was okay. “Shawn, just tell me okay? No more secrets.” I grab his hand and he broke down in tears.
I held him as he sobbed into my shoulder, his lanky body overpowered my tiny figure, I felt bad because I couldn’t hold him up any longer due to the soreness, I pushed him off carefully.
“Sorry! Sorry! I’m probably hurting you.” He was frantic and I just squeeze his hands to let him know I’m okay.
“Shawn, please talk to me and maybe turn off the stove because it’s boiling,” I whispered the last part and he was making so many frantic movements.
“I was making us supper and it’s our favorite meal, mac n cheese and chicken nuggets because I can’t cook to save my life. Then, I just had all these thoughts about how fast I could’ve lost you and it hit me so quick, I’m so sorry for everything and I don’t want to lose you, I’m still so scared.” He was sobbing once again and I leaned my weight into him, giving him the biggest hug as tears fell from my eyes too.
“I know it was sudden and I kinda made it worse by avoiding you, but we have to stop apologizing to each other. We have our friendship back and we can eat as much Mac n cheese as we want. You’re not losing me at any point in your life. I’m permanently here and I’m kinda like a disease now.” I shrug my shoulders once we pulled away.
He stared into my eyes as his tears were still slowly cascading down his eyes, I wiped them off with the sleeve of my shirt. “I know that now, but I guess I never had time to process and it hit me. I’m just so glad we’re okay.” He kisses my forehead and I nodded.
I turn the stove back on for him and check the oven to look at the nuggets, which were done, so I proceeded to take them out. “Hey, I’m supposed to be taking care of you, sit down.” He swatted at me gently and I sighed, knowing he wouldn’t give it up and made my way to the counter. “Can ya give me a boost?” I ask and he lifts me up swiftly. My heart almost shit itself at our close proximity.
“Why are you up anyway?” He asks while still being way too close, his breath fawning over my nose and lips. “I was having some side pain from my seatbelt but it stopped hurting when I walked around some,” I explain while squishing his cheeks in my fingers.
“Do you need some Tylenol?” He asks and I shake my head. “I don’t think so, not right now.” I smiled at his generosity, he nodded slowly.
“Thanks for getting my clothes up, I could’ve done it myself,” I announce and he still had his famous smile. “But I didn’t mind, I knew it would be easier if I did it anyway. Plus, you looked so peaceful and I couldn’t sleep, so it gave me something to do.” He shrugs some.
It stayed silent as he was still so close, I had the knots in my stomach just from him being closer than normal. He started to lean in slowly, my heart was beating 100 miles per minute. Then the sizzling sound of water hitting the stove took us out of our trance.
We look over to the stove that had water toppling over the pan, he cursed under his breath as he moved the pan quickly and turned the stove off.
“Now I know why you always cooked food babe, I can’t even boil noodles.” He smirked over towards me, babe...
“Yeah, no wonder.”
Well fuck.

We Lost Us (4)
Idk it’s short so I’ll update soon

Tumblr media
I felt nervous when I had been sitting in the chair for more than 5 minutes, but the nurse said it was normal. I just hated seeing her connected to wires and not being awake enough to understand anything going on.
I started to pace a little, well a lot, but I just needed to focus on something else. I had just lost my girlfriend, who didn’t like my best friend, so it screwed up a lifelong friendship. Then, my best friend is in a hospital bed and I’m panicking like a madman.
A groan took me out of the trance and I felt like a deer in headlights as her droopy eyes stared at mine. She was just tapping her lips as she needed something to drink. I rush to the sink and make a cup, getting it to her as soon as possible.
“I’m sorry that I’m the first face you have to see,” I mumble as I sit down in the chair beside her bed. “It’s okay, where’s my mom? Is she okay? How long have I been out?” She asks rapidly and I grab her hand, rubbing it soothingly, she always loved that.
“She is fine and currently downstairs, you’ve been out for a bit.” I wrapped my hand around hers a little tighter, I didn’t want to lose her ever again. “What’d they do to me?” She caressed the gauze that was wrapped around her head softly, I frowned a little. “They put a shunt in to manually drain the extra fluid, you had a successful surgery,” I explain gently and she nods slowly, still a little loopy.
“Ca-can we talk about us?” I stutter shortly and she was hesitant to nod. I couldn’t even look her in the eye. “I didn’t know that she treated you so awfully. I know I should’ve seen it and I shouldn’t have pushed you so far away when we started dating. I’m sorry-“ A small snore caught me off guard. I look up and she was out, I knew she still had the medicine in her system, I’m glad she fell asleep... I didn’t know what to honestly say.
——
“Morning sunshine.” My voice surrounds the room, her mom opens the blinds simultaneously. “Morning.” Y/n mumbles with a rub of her eyes, she didn’t seem as pale and it warmed my heart.
She looked over at me expectingly, she knew she had fallen asleep when I was talking about us, she had that guilty look. Her mom knew too, I had let her know when I called her upstairs, she laughed a little when I told her.
“Mom, can you leave us for a few minutes?” Y/n asks and I jump into an upright position. “You just woke up, we can put a hold on our conversation. You need to eat breakfast.” I quickly say and her mom nods in agreement. “I’ll leave the room once you finish some breakfast.”
-
After a painfully quiet breakfast, her mom left the room to go make some calls to her family. “I’m sorry I fell asleep.” She apologized and I shake my head quickly. “You just came out of major surgery, you don’t have to apologize to me. If anything, I’m the one who owes plenty of apologies.” I extend my hand to her, she places hers in mine.
“I think we have a lot to talk about.” She chuckles and I nod along. “More than enough.” I joke, it was so awkward between us, it had never been before.
“I want to start off by saying I’m so sorry. I put Abigail above our friendship and I’m sorry about that. I chose her after our years of friendship and I didn’t even pay attention to how she treated you or how I did too. I pushed you away and I made excuses as to why we couldn’t hang out, I always chose Abi. I’m sorry that you were put on the back burner and that it drove a huge wedge between us.” I rant quickly and she chuckles.
“I mean I was a bit over-dramatic by unadding you on every social media site, so I’m sorry too. I’m glad you’re happy with Abi and I don’t want to take that away.” She squeezes my hand and I suck in air through my teeth. “Abigail broke up with me,” I admit and she freezes in her spot.
“Oh shit, I’m sorry! This isn’t because of me, right?” She questions and I shake my head quickly. “Of course not!” I lie and my voice raises a bit. “Shawn! I don’t like her but I won’t be the reason you two broke up!” She scolds and I laugh a little, even after major surgery she’s still bossy. It’s cute.
“It was more than that. There were some things said and it made me realize a lot of the shit that went on before our friendship hiatus. Not to mention that your mom roasted me.” I add the last part and her eyes widened dramatically. “Oh no, what’d she say!” I heard an ounce of panic.
“She called me out on my bullshit, it’s nothing to fret over. All I care about is that you heal properly and know I’m here for you regardless. I’m sorry our friendship got fucked up for a bit, but there’s no way you’re getting rid of me now.” I reassure and she smiles gently, it felt so wholesome to have that smile back into my life.
I play with the end of her hair as she stares at the ceiling aimlessly. “Shawn, has my mom been taking care of herself while I’ve been out?” She asks after a few minutes of silence, I stop my fingers.
“Yeah, I make sure she goes to the appointments and home when she needs to sleep. Trust me, there’s no other family besides mine that I’d want to take care of.” I smile and she nods. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to take care of myself and her now.” She rubs her head in a stressful manner.
I pull her hand down to keep her from rubbing too harshly. “Hey, don’t worry your pretty little mind, I’ve already talked everything out. Your mom and I agreed that you’d stay with me so I can take care of you, your aunt is coming in to take care of your mom as she finishes her last few treatments.” I explain and she makes a face.
“That’s too much for you to do.” She scolds and I shrug my shoulders. “I have a few months to make up for, plus I’m off for a while, it’s gonna be the two of us.” I grin widely.
“You just assume I want to move in with you for a while?” She asks sassily and my heart plummets, I was so excited that I forgot she might not want to.
I must’ve made a face because she was laughing hard, it warmed my heart to hear that sound flow through my ears.
“Ha! Gotcha. Anyways, I appreciate you taking care of me, we’re going to go back to the old us, right?” She asks and I nod. Even though I know now that she’s in love with me and I have that butterfly feeling in my stomach when she looks at me, I still nod.
Things aren’t the same, they’re so different and it feels like the shift was so sudden. “Of course, it’s always gonna be the two of us.”

WHO? [S.M: COLLEGE AU SERIES PT 2]
Description: Shawn finds himself renrolling into his junior year of college after not taking a liking to the start of his career of being a musician. With renrolling, he finds a liking to a girl he had never seen before.
N.E
Tumblr media
BY THE time college had started up again, it was just a short week after Shawn had arrived back on campus. He had been supplied with all his books that he needed, and his pencil case was full of all the pens he used in his first two years.
He was in the middle of his elective English class, writing down notes when his pen had run out of ink. He scrambled to grab another, to find it didn’t work, only for him to grab another and it also didn’t work. He let out a frustrated sigh, trying to find a pen that was working. He was stupid enough not to go through and check which ones were working before classes started.
“Hey, curly fries, need a pen?” asked a voice.
He looked around, thinking that whoever was speaking, wasn’t speaking to him. He ignored the voice, letting out an annoyed sigh when he realised that the five or six pens in his pencil case had run out of ink.
“Psst! Curly fries, oi!” said the same voice.
He looked up to the person behind him, finding a chestnut brunette smiling down at him. He flushed red when he noticed what the cute girl was holding out for him, and the girl let out a small chuckle at the sight of his rosy cheeks.
Shawn gently took the pen from her grasp, to which he then smiled at her afterwards. He was given one in return, just seconds after he thanked her for the pen.
“Who’s talking back there?” Mr T/N asked.
Shawn turned back to sit in his seat quietly, while the girl who gave him a pen spoke up for him. He just silently continued writing down whatever was on the board, into his exercise book.
“We weren’t talking sir, I was just giving him a pen,” replied the girl.
“A pen? It’s the first class of the semester.”
“Sorry Mr T/N, it won’t happen again.”
“You’re right it won’t. Surely after spending half your life in school, you’d be able to carry a few spare pens,” explained Mr T/N.
“I was Mr T/N. All five of my pens aren’t working,” flushed Shawn.
The class let out a laugh at Shawn’s reply, which only made Shawn flush harder in embarrassment. He wasn’t expecting his first few classes like this, getting embarrassed because all of his pens weren’t working. He had hoped that the class hadn’t heard what he said, but of course, they did.
Mr T/N furrowed his eyebrows at the sound of the familiar voice, looking out to where Shawn was sitting. Shawn tried to hide himself, but it didn’t really work.
“Is that you Mr Mendes?” asked Mr T/N.
“It is, Mr T/N.”
The teacher smiled at the sight of the brunette back in class. It’d been just over a year since Mr T/N had seen Shawn in class, and he had questioned why Shawn had been crossed off his roll. Someone had told him that he was becoming a musician, but he didn’t believe them.
“It’s good to see you back. Where have you been, Shawn?”
“I’ve uh, I’ve been making music and touring around the world for the past year, Mr T/N.”
The class broke out into whispers, with many people in the class looking over at him while they spoke to their friends. Shawn just caved in on himself slightly, suddenly not liking the class anymore. This is what he was trying to avoid. This was one of the reasons why he couldn’t deal with the fame to begin with. It’s why he gave it up.
“Good for you Shawn. I’m glad to see you’re doing what you love. Do you mind me asking why you came back to college?”
Shawn cleared his throat, the entire class hearing it. He sat up in his chair a bit higher, feeling a little more confident about himself. He placed the lid on the pen, and began to play with it as he spoke.
“I came back because I couldn’t handle it. Everyone says that being famous would be so easy, but it’s really not. It’s dealing with constant stress, constant strangers trying to talk to you every where you go, needing to put in 110% every time, no matter what you’re doing. Even if it’s dressing up to go out, performing on stage, creating a song or even practicing it. I got diagnosed with anxiety whilst I was away, because I couldn’t handle it, so I decided to finish my degree and see what the future afterwards hold for me, if it were music, or it’s something else.”
The entire class went silent at the words that escaped Shawn’s lips. A few whispers here and there, but not as many. Mr T/N nodded his head with a small smile.
“It’s good to see a familiar face in my class room.”
Shawn just nodded his head, and Mr T/N went back to teaching the class. Shawn sat silently, listening to the teacher and writing down the notes in his book. They were learning about old classical playwrights, something Shawn loves to learn about.
The class had not long ended, and everyone was packing up their stuff so they could head out. Shawn was amongst a lot of them, trying to get to his next class which started in less than an hour, and was almost a twenty minute walk. He ditched his car for the day, deciding to get up his step count instead.
“That was a nice motivational speech you made in there,” said a voice.
Shawn quickly turned around as he finally made his way out of the classroom. He found the brunette who had been sitting behind him, the one who gave him the pen to borrow. He let out a small chuckle, shaking his head.
“It’s nothing really. I was just explaining why I came back to college,” said Shawn.
“I’m sure there’s a secret message in there somewhere. I have to go though, I have another class down the hall,” she said.
Shawn nodded. “Me too, but not down the hall. I’ll see you around?”
She nodded her head in response, going to turn away, but he quickly grabbed her shirt before she could. Her eyes locked with his, a questioning look on her face.
“Thank you, for letting me have your pen,” said Shawn.
“It’s nothing. I suppose you’ll come back to class with a few more working ones over the next week?”
Shawn let out a laugh, nodding his head at her. She then bid a goodbye, and started walking down the hallway yet again. It was then when Shawn realised he hadn’t even gotten her name yet.
“You never told me your name!” yelled Shawn.
“Bronte!” She yelled out.
She then disappeared around the corner, before Shawn found himself turning the opposite way to make his way to his next class. He rounded the corner, feeling a sudden pressure hitting him on the chest, before the sound of books hitting the ground caught his attention.
He looked down, finding a brunette girl scrambling to pick her books up off the floor. He quickly apologised to the girl, bending down to help her pick up the books and papers that had landed everywhere.
“It’s okay, it’s my fault. I wasn’t looking where I was going,” said the girl.
Shawn’s eyes locked onto her after she spoke, somehow getting a feeling that she was familiar. Her hair was up in a high pony tail, hanging over her face, with her bangs outlining the shape of her face. When she looked up because she could feels eyes on her, her bright eyes locked with Shawn’s.
“Y/N?”
“Shawn?”
“Hey, what’s going on?” laughed Shawn.
“I’m picking up my books, because some idiot ran into me,” remarked Y/N.
Shawn let out a scoff, as the two of them rose to their feet again. Y/N adjusted the books in her arm, while Shawn handed her one back. The book that he had originally picked up but forgot to give it to her until last minute.
“You said it was your fault for not watching!”
“Yes, I did. until I realised it was you and then I decided to blame it on you,” she laughed.
Shawn let out a scoff, before laughing at her and nudging her side. She just let out another laugh, a sound Shawn could listen to forever if he had the choice too.
“You would blame me for it.”
Y/N let out a laugh. “Of course, any one but myself.”
Shawn let out another laugh at her, shaking his head. Y/N just smiled over at him, adjusting one of her books that was falling out of her folder. Shawn held his by his hip, not having many books to carry for his next class, which he was grateful for.
The two of them started making their way out of the building, not even noticing that they were both walking the same way. What they didn’t realise was about to be found out.
“What class do you have now?” Y/N asked.
“I have Music, yourself?” replied Shawn.
“Wait, you do music?” She quickly turned to him.
Shawn let out a laugh. “Yes, why? Surprised?”
“No, I have music too!”
Shawn’s eyes lit up at the sound of having a class with Y/N, a smile tugging at his lips as he realised how excited she was to be sharing a class with you.
“That’s awesome. What instrument do you play?” questioned Shawn.
“Piano, guitar and I sing. Yourself?”
Shawn’s heart almost melted the moment that sentence escaped her lips. There was seriously something going on here, because it was rare that he had much in common with anyone.
“So do I,” laughed Shawn.
Y/N let out a surprised laugh at his response. The two of them dodged people as they made their way through the hallway towards their classroom, but still managing to stay side by side.
“That’s crazy!” said Y/N.
The two of them just grinned at one another, finally reaching their classroom. Shawn opened the door Y/N, letting her go past him, but she didn’t without saying thank you to him.
“Hello, please grab one of the sheets of paper on the end desk, and find a seat,” said Mrs T/N.
Shawn grabbed Y/N and himself one of the pieces of paper each, before they both found a seat in the second row at the othe end of the classroom. Shawn placed his books down, handing Y/N her paper, before he pulled the seat out and sat down.
Y/N then thanked him yet again, looking out at the front of the room to find Mrs T/N writing down information on the board. Shawn glanced down at the piece of paper in front of him, reading the information in front of him.
Welcome to Mrs T/N’s college Music experience. Please fill out the information below.

Who is your favourite musician/s?: Ed Sheeran and John Mayor.
What do you hope to get out of this course?: To professionally play and make music for a living.
How confident are you with performing on stage in front of a crowd?: Very confident.
Shawn had filled out the page within minutes, while Y/N had answered everything almost the same as Shawn, except, another favourite artist of her’s was Taylor Swift, and she was just confident in performance.
She wasn’t like Shawn, who had toured for 6 months and performed in front of thousands of people in different cities across the globe every night. She didn’t know that he was famous, but she was sure to find out in a short time.
“Please hand your sheets in to the person on the end row, and they can bring them up to the front please,” said Mrs T/N.
The sound of pieces of paper being shuffled around could be heard all around the room, as people kept handing down pieces of paper to the next person. Shawn then realised that he had to hand up the papers to the front of the room, which he got up to do once he was handed all his sheets.
He was the last one to take all the sheets down, with everyone else already have handed them down and were making their way back to their seats. Shawn places the pile of papers in front of the teacher, who then picks up his paper to read it to herself.
“Shawn,” she called.
“Yes. Mrs T/N?” replied Shawn.
Everyone’s eyes were on him, he could feel them. It was scary that he knew when someone was looking at him because he’d spent so long having thousands of people staring at him constantly on stage. He wasn’t expecting to be confronted by the teacher the way he was about to.
“Why don’t you start us off and explain who you are to the class? We’re just doing get-to-know-each-other tasks for the first lesson.”
Shawn then nodded his head at his teacher, making his way to stand beside her up the front. He looked out to the crowd, finding a few more eyes on him than what he’s liked.
“Uh, sure. Anything in particular?” Shawn asked.
“Just tell us everything on the sheet, and for the last two questions. I want to know why.”
Shawn then nodded his head again, letting out a small breath he didn’t know he was holding in. His fingers fiddled with the strings on his pants, as he started to talk to the class.
“Hi. My name is Shawn Mendes, and I am 19 years old. I play the guitar, piano and I sing. I’ll listen to any song that I think is good. My favourite musicians are Ed Sheeran and John Major. The reason I’m doing this course is because I want to be able to play and record music professionally, as it’s always been a dream of mine as a kid.. I am very confident in performing because...”
Shawn then paused, looking out at the class of students sitting before him, waiting for him to finish his sentence. He was known around several hundred countries because of his music, and that didn’t bother him, but it bothered him that if he finished his sentence, he’d been known as Shawn Mendes, the kid who gave up his career to finish his degree, to go back to being famous. He didn’t want to be famous for that, but now, he had no choice.

WHO? [S.M: COLLEGE AU SERIES PT 1]
Description: Shawn finds himself renrolling into his junior year of college after not taking a liking to the start of his career of being a musician. With renrolling, he finds a liking to a girl he had never seen before.
N.E
Tumblr media
The odd feeling of being renrolled back into college rushed back to the brunette as he had finally made it back onto campus. His parents insisted on driving him back to campus when he arrived home, and helping him unpack but he brushed them off, telling them that he’d be fine as he had Brian with him. He told them to relax, and he’d come to visit as soon as he could.
It wasn’t long until the two college students were on their way back to campus. The music on the usual level that was high enough for the two boys to hear one another talking. Brian slowly caught Shawn up on what has happened since he resorted to doing online college when his music career kicked off after his freshman year of college.
They were now seniors, ready to finally finish their last year of college so they could live the rest of their lives in peace. Shawn was studying music as a major in his first year, but changed then decided to change it. He changed it back, and decided maybe it was better for him to finish his degree in music before continuing on with his career.
“Did you hear about Geoff?” asked Brian.
Shawn shook his head. “No, what about him?”
“He got a girlfriend man, and she is hot!” exclaimed Brian.
Shawn just let out a laugh at his best friend, knowing fully well what he was like. He knew that his best friend would have most likely tried to get with Geoff’s girlfriends friends, and no doubt, failed at it. He had no game, whatsoever.
Shawn turned the steering wheel, pulling into the campus car park near their apartments. When they first started college, the two of them shared an apartment, while Geoff and Ian shared one in another apartment around the corner. Brian hadn’t found another room mate to share with, because that’s Brian for you, and kept it in case Shawn ever came back.
Lucky he did, otherwise he’d have no where else to stay. He’d have to find an apartment off campus, and they were damn near expensive for a college student. The boys were lucky to find the apartment they got, as it was a last minute one the owner they had consulted with, had put on the market, as their original apartment had been taken before they had enough money for it.
Shawn and Brian carried the boxes of Shawn’s stuff up to the second floor to their apartment, where they placed them into Shawn’s room. Shawn let out a sigh, taking a seat on his bed. It was definitely good to be back. He’d actually missed college, crazily enough, because it kept him constantly busy, not that making music wasn’t. It was just different, and he liked it.
Music was doing his head in, he couldn’t deal with all the stress and the ridiculous amount of lack of sleep. College was a little better, as he didn’t have many classes that started ridiculously early, like 6:30am, as 8am were his latest classes, most of them were 7:30am starts, apart from one, which started at 8am. He liked the earlier ones, because he was so used to getting up early to go to gym. Now he could go before class and after class if he was motivated enough.
In no time, Shawn had his stuff unpacked, and his clothes packed away in the cupboard. There wasn’t that much room in the boot, so he put his guitar and amplifier, and piano in the back seat, which Brian had grabbed for him while he was unpacking his stuff.
A knock on the door caught his attention, causing him to look up at the door from his place on the bed. His phone in hand, as he scrolled through his Instagram.
“I was going to get something to eat with the boys, did you want to come?” asked Brian.
Shawn nodded his head. “Why not? You can show me what’s changed around here since I’ve left, if you want.”
“I’ll take that as a deal!”
The two of them left the apartment, meeting Ian, Geoff and Geoff’s girlfriend Roxie, at Shawn’s car, before they made their way to the closest McDonalds. It also happened to have a Subway in the same building, which Roxie went to after she ordered her food at McDonalds and left Geoff with the receipt.
“It’s good seeing you Shawn,” said Geoff.
“You too Geoff. I miss it here,” replied Shawn.
They were waiting in line for their food, as the drive thru was too busy and it’d take just a long, if not, a shorter amount of time to order in instead. Once the food was collected, and Roxie had the two foot longs she ordered, they were on their way back to campus to the oval.
Apparently the first pre-training for track and field was on, and Roxie’s best friend was supposed to be there. None of the boys but Geoff knew why Roxie had bought two subs, as she had bought McDonalds as well.
They took a seat on the bleachers once they arrived, beginning to eat their food while they watched the training. There quite a few people out there, easily more than a hundred. A few doing running, a few throwing, a few jumping, some doing hurdles, and some just training in the middle.
There weren’t many spectators, but then again it was only the first training of the season. Shawn was sure that once the competitions started, it’d only get busier, with a lot more athletes and a lot more spectators. Track & Field was a very popular sport, Shawn figured that out in his freshman year, but he was sure it had only grown since.
“Shawn, what are you studying?” asked Roxie.
Shawn quickly turned to look at her, smiling slightly. “Majoring in music.”
“Ooh, can you sing?”
“Like hell he can’t! He’s on the verge of becoming one of the most popular artists under 25. If he didn’t give it up!” exclaimed Geoff.
Roxie’s eyes widened at the news. She wasn’t expecting to meet a celebrity of some sort while she was at college, nor did she expect it to be a student either. Or one of her boyfriend’s best mates.
“Celebrity eh?”
Shawn just shrugged a little. “Eh, barely.”
“Barely my ass!” exclaimed Ian, a mouthful of fries.
Shawn just let out a laugh at him. “Oh shut up. Maybe a little celebrity, but not that big. Not yet anyway.”
Roxie nodded her head, while Geoff looked over at Shawn from his seat. A knowing smirk on his lips, but he just kept the secret to himself. Nobody but him knew that he thought about going back into the music business after college, nor did they know why he chose to take a break from it either.
When the food was finished, the group of them continued to watch the athletes train. There were a few teachers and trainers out there helping each individual, or small groups of people in that particular sport.
Shawn noticed a brunette girl with her trainer on the outskirts of the track, near the front seats of his bleachers. They were talking privately for a few minutes, before the girl was lining up on the starting gate, a blonde girl on her left, and a red head on her right.
“Why are they lining up?” asked Shawn.
He didn’t really know much about Track & Field, he was more into team sports, like Ice Hockey and Basketball. He figured the group knew quite a bit about it, as they spent quite a lot of time here apparently.
“Practice runs for the 100m sprints. Their documenting their times down to see if they qualify and if they’re still in shape after the break. Some of them are probably newbies and need an idea of how fast they need to be to qualify and be selected,” explained Roxie.
Shawn looked over at Geoff with a smirk. “Damn Geoff, you got lucky! She’s got more brains than you,” he teased.
The group let out laughs at the comment, while Geoff just rolled his eyes. Roxie chuckled beside him, leaning into his side, eyes still on the track. They watched as some of the other runners and trainers gathered around to watch.
The sound of the gun went off, and the runners were off. The brunette girl was in front by about two feet, with the blonde and the red head in tie. The leader sped up immensely, crossing the line a good metre and a half in front of the other two girls.
“Jesus Christ, less than ten seconds,” commented Geoff.
Roxie let out a laugh. “She’s getting better. Those girls had nothing against her, there was no way they’d catch up.”
“She was almost two metres ahead of them!” said Ian.
“By the looks of it, they’re probably freshman who haven’t got a lot of professional training,” said Roxie.
Shawn just watched quietly, still listening in on the conversation between his friends. The brunette girl, dressed in a pair of Nike pros and a Nike bra, with random numbers on it, made her way back over to who Shawn guessed to be her trainer. He gave her a high five and a hug, before everyone gathered together in the middle of the track.
There was a short meeting about results and a note was handed out about something, before everyone started departuring in different directions. Roxie smiled and waved at one of the athletes, before they went to the change rooms.
Shawn wasn’t sure what they were waiting for now because the training was finished, but he noticed that the two foot long subs that Roxie had bought still hadn’t been touched. He had a feeling there was something nobody was telling him.
“What are we waiting for? The training’s finished isn’t it?” asked Shawn.
“Yes, we’re just waiting for Roxie’s best friend,” replied Geoff.
Shawn nodded his head, sitting in his spot quietly while watching people pack up the equipment. Brian leaned over to him after speaking with the rest of the group, talking into his ear quietly.
“Remember the hot girl I was telling you about earlier?” asked Brian.
“Is she Roxie’s friend?” asked Shawn, connecting the dots.
Brian nodded his head with a grin, which made Shawn let out a chuckle. It sounded like Brian had a small crush on whoever this girl was, but Shawn couldn’t really say anything until he’d met her.
A brunette girl dressed in a pair of black Nike sweat pants, a Nike hoodie, and Nike runners, made her way over with a black and purple Nike sports bag hanging from her shoulder. To Shawn, he noticed her hair was down and it looked like she had just showered after training.
Roxie greeted her best friend with a smile and a hug as she made her way up the bleachers. The girl gave Geoff a hug, before sitting down near them and placing her bag down beside her. Her eyes flickered up to Ian, Geoff and Shawn’s, and she waved at them.
“Hey boys, long time no see,” she said.
“Hey Y/N, good to see you,” said Brian.
“Praticing hard as I can tell,” said Ian.
Y/N just gave a small shrug with a smirk, taking one of the subs from Roxie. It now made sense, one of those subs were for this girl, Y/N. She unwrapped it, thanking Roxie, before she looked back up at them.
“What can I say? I just have a damn good trainer,” replied Y/N, taking a small bite.
“Definitely! You smoked those girls!” said Brian.
He was talking about the race earlier, the one with the three girls, the one Roxie explained to Shawn. It was where the brunette girl had won the race by a good metre or two.
“I just train a lot harder and more often than not. Those girls were only freshman, you could tell by their starting positions. They haven’t had the proper training,” explained Y/N.
“Or maybe you’re just full of yourself,” remarked Shawn.
Everyone looked up at the brunet in surprise, while Y/N just bit into her foot long. Roxie glared at him, while Ian, Geoff and Brian just shook his head at what Shawn had said. The brunette knew there was always someone who always comented on her success.
“Or that. I just tell myself over and over again that I can beat them, and it just fuels me to go faster. I guess that’s probably what you’re thinking right?” replied Y/N.
“I’m not trying to be rude, but I believe that you think so highly of yourself that the little ego function in the brain tells you that you’re able to beat them. That’s why you do, not because of anything else.”
Roxie then turned in her spot, staring up at the man she had only just met today. She couldn’t believe what he was saying right now. There was no way that the boys hadn’t told him how successful she was, and that it was all in her genetics.
“I don’t think you two have met before,” said Roxie.
“I don’t think it matters Roxie. It’s probably all in her head, there’s no way someone could beat anybody by that much in a college sprint.”
Y/N let out a scoff at Shawn, finishing her first footling. She scrunched up the wrapping, sticking it in the McDonald’s bag that Roxie had beside her. She looked up at Shawn yet again, still not even knowing what his name was.
“It’s not my ego, whatever your name is-“
“-Shawn.”
“It’s not my ego, Shawn, it is in my genetics. I bet you probably don’t even know what that means, anyway, beside the point, it’d take to long to explain the back story of that too. It’s in my genetics, I can’t control how good or bad I am at running, it’s just who I am. It’s not my ego telling me whatever so I believe that I can beat them. It’s just who I am,” explained Y/N.
“If you know so much, and I don’t know so much, then explain to me why you’re so good.”
Shawn had no idea why he was saying any of this. Maybe it was because he was hoping to either, be outsmarted by an athlete, or be slapped across the face for being a smart ass towards a girl who he thought looked absolutely incredible. He was usually a gentleman, today he was someone completely different, and none of his friends knew what he was doing.
“Okay then. Genetics means it runs in your blood. Meaning your family, your parents, your grand parents etc. It isn’t my ego, because it is in my genetics. My father was an athlete for twenty two years, an Olympic medallist. My mother was an athlete for eighteen years, an Olympic medallist, before she had me. So were my grandparents, it runs in my blood on both sides of the family for generations. So, no, it’s not my ego, it’s my genetics.”
Fuck, Shawn thought.
He just got absolutely destroyed by this girl he’s never met before, and he didn’t even mind one bit. The fact that he didn’t mind was what has got him confused, he didn’t know what was going on with him.
It was quiet after that, nobody really knowing what to say to what had just happened. When Y/N had surprisingly eaten both of those subs, the group decided to show Shawn around again before dropping everyone off at home. Geoff and Roxie had a family get together to go to, so when they got back to the apartments, they were the first to get out.
Ian and Brian sat in the back, after Y/N won a fight for the front seat between the both of them. Ian was dropped off at his apartment, before Brian offered to let Y/N go home, but she declined, claiming she wanted to stay for a little bit longer to see how Brian would explain things to Shawn.
They drove around the campus for about three quarters of an hour, before Brian had to go to Football try outs. Shawn dropped him off and let Y/N show him the way to her apartment building. It was a five minute drive from Shawn and Brian’s apartment, which was handy.
When Shawn parked the car, Y/N climbed out to grab her bag from the back of the car. Before she could leave without a word, Shawn decided that it was probably the best time to apologise to her.
“I’m sorry about what I said. I wasn’t trying to be a dick. I’m kind of new to the track & field side of things. I’m not usually like this.”
“It’s okay. You’re the first person to ever question why I am so good at what. Nobody really cares actually, they just want me to become better,” replied Y/N.
The two of them smiled at one another gently, a small silence over coming them both. The radio played softly from inside Shawn’s car, and it settled the mood a bit.
“I better go. I have to be up early tomorrow. I will see you around?” said Y/N.
“If you continue to hang around those group of idiots, I’m sure we will meet again.”
Y/N let out a small laugh, which made Shawn laugh slightly too. She nodded her head in agreement to calling the group of friends idiots, because they definitely were. She couldn’t even argue.
“I’ll see you around,” said Shawn.
“Bye Shawn.”
Y/N smiled at him, before she waved goodbye and started making her way into the building. Shawn let his head roll back and hit the seat head behind him. His hands resting on his thighs as he let out a deep breath. He didn’t know what was going on with him.
Who was she, and what was she doing to him?
