anybody else play a cleric durge and felt like they had to come up with some ridiculous reason as to why their pc would wake up believing they worship a god that’s not bhaal? ophelia’s is “i can tell i used to worship a god and can’t remember who, but i have some sick fucking lightning powers and i love carnage destruction and chaos, so that probably means talos is my god. yeah that checks out”

and it’s just. not even fucking true. she was absolutely Not a cleric before the nautiloid, and she definitely didn’t worship talos. he just happened to fit the description

i like to think talos sees her going through this process and just decides to feed into her delusions and grant her cleric powers because he thinks it’s funny

I really shouldn’t have made my current (and general second) run of BG3 as a tempest cleric/storm sorcerer combo, because it's so damn fun that now I won’t want to play as anything else 😂🙈

Q: How did you come up with your Durge?

Durge was my fourth playthrough. Before that, I had exclusively played Tiefling Barbarian Tavs, so I wanted to shake things up. I initially considered playing a Drow but none of the faces really spoke to me. Then I saw the default feminine High Elf and I just laughed aloud. I loved the idea of playing a conventionally pretty character who actually has these monstrous urges. I was mostly attracted to the potential humor in that extreme contradiction!

The irony of her character led to SO MANY comical moments in the game that it inspired me to start making comics again.

It was a fun creative challenge to reconcile the Dark Urge framework with my choices. I saw comments online saying that for Dark Urge’s story to “make sense” that they should be a big buff Paladin / Barbarian / Assassin / Fighter type. So, I instead made my Durge a High Elf Cleric of Talos! I wanted to explore how these choices would influence my take on the Dark Urge.

I was delightfully surprised by what emerged!

My Durge isn’t the biggest or scariest but she is instead very cunning and creepy. She uses people’s assumptions about her appearance to her advantage, a lot like Puss in Shrek 2, or, like Morticia in the 90s film version of the Addams family. Morticia in particular is flippant and flirty, but when her family is threatened, a switch flips and you realize she knows a lot more than she lets on. I guess I'm just a sucker for characters who subvert expectations in some way - especially to comedic effect!

- Draconic sorcerer. Has powers worth of 2 people due to absorbing twin's magic in womb.

- Was a cutthroat solider.

- Used by her parents.

- Forgotten Realms equivalent of an atheist.

- Almost forced into an arranged marriage.

- Love sick for Gale.

Zairissa:

- First and foremost a cleric. Sorcerery mostly useless.

- Found faith after leaving home and almost being killed in an alley.

- Far too forgiving for her own good.

- Would sacrifice herself for others in a heartbeat.

- Love at first sight when she saw Karlach.

Faeryl:

- Divine intervention conception. Planned to be Lolth's chosen.

- Mother was child of Bhaalspawn. Faeryl's inherited bloodlust was dormant most her life.

- Born and raised as a Selûnite.

- Deeply devoted, sure...but she does have some doubts about her faith.

- Was once engaged but her fiance was kidnapped and allegedly killed by Sharrans.

- Afraid of the dark.

- Bagged 2 edgy girlfriends (Shadowheart and Dacria)

My Dark Urge/ durge on a shelf, Pearl. Mephistopheles Tiefling , Cleric of Talos, Tempest domain.

Pearl's mother worshiped Talos and conceived a Bhaalspaw. Her mother taught her to worship Talos and hoped that destrution would be enough to sate the Dark Urge. It only made it worse, causeing Pearl to out the few Talos clusters her mother could find. She would blame the Shar worshipers and flee to a new town. Eventually, after one of Pearl's blackouts a slaughter, her mother faked her own death and fled without Pearl. It wasn't long before Pearl found her way to Bhaal's temple.

Pearl believes destruction and chaos are needed; That they are key for life. When she wakes up with no memories, a whisper of these ideals linger. She feels a strong connection with Shadowheart, knowing what it is like to be shunned for the god one worships.

Of all my tavs/durges on a shelf i have, I can say with most certinty I have no idea how her story is going to play out. It is both terrifying and exciting at the same time.
