If you're not familiar with what hanahaki au! is, basically nothing changes about the world except there's now a disease called hanahaki disease, and essentially, someone can get hanahaki disease when they have unrequited love for someone. Symptoms of hanahaki disease include flowers growing in the victim's lungs, and the first signs of the disease come when the victim starts coughing petals. The longer the hanahaki disease prevails (it can go on for years), the more intense and painful the coughing can get and can eventually lead to coughing up whole flowers (stem, petals, and all) until the victim eventually dies. (Fun, right? 🥰) Hanahaki disease can only be cured if the victim decides to lose their feelings for someone or if the victim's crush likes them back.

Typically in Hanahaki au! Fics, the victim hides their symptoms in fear of revealing their romantic feelings. In some fics, certain actions can trigger their coughing, for example, if someone mentions the victim's crush's name, or if the victim sees their crush with someone else, they may start intensely coughing at that moment. “Alright, class. Today we will begin working on our project regarding absolutism and absolutist rulers. We’ve gone over a few classes talking about absolutism, and now it’s your turn to present. I will be pairing you with another student, and the two of you will have a week to work on it before presenting it in front of the class. I will be assigning a country to you, and the two of you will choose which absolutist ruler you would like to do. Do I make myself clear?” The teacher announced. Once the teacher heard a chorus of mumbles and agreeing nods, he began to walk through the rows of desks, pointing at students and saying a random country.

“Robin and Y/N, England.” Your eyes widened when the teacher said your name and Robin’s. You looked at Robin, who was sitting in the second row, just diagonal to your desk. She gave you a warm smile, making your insides do a flip. You watched Robin move her stuff next to you, taking a seat by your side.

“Hey! You’re Y/N, right?” Robin smiled at you.

“U-Uhm, y-yeah. Mhm. Yep.” You stammered, your face heating up at the moment.

Robin let out a chuckle at your response, opening her computer. “So, England. Do you have a ruler in mind? I’m open to any.”

“Uh…” You cleared your throat, feeling a strange lump in your esophagus as you pushed it down. This was your chance. To talk to the one girl you never talked to before. Not because you were shy, well, maybe because you were, but because you never had the time to. This might as well be the only time you got to talk to her before she’d get swarmed by her friends and other desperate juniors. Might as well show what you got, right?

“I was thinking of Elizabeth I; I can think of some absolutist traits about her that could be worth a presentation.” You regurgitated each word out. You felt that strange lump again, as well as the urge to start coughing up a storm. You suppressed the urge to cough, as you waited for Robin to reply.

“That could work. Alright, let’s do Elizabeth I. I’ll share a document with you. You can type down whatever you already know about Elizabeth, and we can just add more information as we go, until we have a basis of the things we’ll talk about.” Robin replied. You reloaded your email, suppressing your urge to cough and your surprise at her reaction. That worked? You could just voice your opinion and she’d listen? That was certainly a development.

You opened the document Robin sent you, your fingers moving furiously as the urge to cough became much harder to suppress, the urge becoming much more unbearable.

“Hey, Robin!” A boy walked up to Robin, a big dumb grin on his face. “Which country are you doing?”

“England, Franky. Go back to your partner.” Robin chuckled, brushing him aside. The moment you heard Robin reply, the floodgates burst open. You coughed, as an onslaught of coughing ensued. It felt like you were vomiting, minus the vomit and the strain on your throat. The entire class fell silent at the sound of your cough, all eyes on you. You lifted your head up, removing your hand from your mouth as you let out a deep breath. The class went back to work, quiet chattering ensuing. 

“Are you alright, Y/N? That was quite the cough.” Robin looked at you, her brows furrowed and eyes filled with concern. “Do you need some water?” “I’m fine.” You replied, looking down at your palm. Three flower petals. You balled your fist, shoving them into your pocket as you looked at Robin with a tired smile. “I’m alright, thanks.”

Robin was not convinced at all, but she stopped asking, as she went back to work. “Alright then.” 

Your mind was racing, heartbeat pounding out of your chest. Shit. Shit. Shit. What the fuck was that? What in the fuckknuckles was that? How the fuck did I just cough up three fucking flower petals? I’m going insane. I’m actually fucking insane.

You spent the rest of class trying to work, writing a few lines just to not raise Robin’s suspicion and act like you were contributing.

Once the bell rung, you shoved your computer into your bag, your body shooting up like a rocket as you darted to the door.

“Wait, Y/N!” You paused in your tracks, moving backwards to face Robin. She still had a smile on her face, but by the way her eyebrows crinkled you could tell she was suspicious of your cough. 

“Yeah?” You responded.

“Message me sometime, alright? You already follow me on Instagram, right?” 

“Oh! Uhm, y-yeah. Sure. I’ll do that.”

“Cool. Hey, get that cough checked out, okay? That’s not a normal cough. Get better soon, okay? We have a presentation coming up.”

“I will. See you tomorrow.” You smiled at Robin, before booking it out of the classroom and out of the school. Immediately, the urge to cough disappeared. You reached your hand into your pocket, staring at the flower petals. You pulled out your phone with your other hand, opening a new browser as you searched for an answer to your symptoms. 

The fuck is hanahaki disease? You thought to yourself, clicking on the link as you read the entire article. Your heart dropped to your stomach, mouth open as you read the description.

You had a crush on Robin. And that crush was going to kill you. 

I just won’t think of her. That’s easy. Then I’ll stop coughing up flowers and I won’t die. That’s easy. You thought to yourself. Oh, how wrong you were. The entire walk back home, your head was clouded with the thought of Robin. The sound of her voice was already enough to make your knees buckle and hypnotized. Whether it was lust or love, she was on your mind. And she’d never go off your mind.

Shit… I have an entire group project I have to do with her… what do I do? Your mind raced for ideas, anything that could work, just so you wouldn’t have to come into contact with her or see her in person.

Sadie thought about it again and again. Staring down at you.

This was her fault. That's all she kept thinking.

You were so excited to bring her back the clutch of flowers in your hand. Skipping back from the small clearing you'd found close to camp. Picking a few that you thought Sadie would like, especially the yellow ones before making your way back with a happy, content smile on your face.

But it didn't last long, Sadie's flustered and angry face coming into view not long after. Yelling at someone before whipping around, meeting your eyes.

You gave her a soft smile, beginning to walk towards her but she didn't return the smile like she usually did. Storm towards making your smile fall and your eyebrows furrow.

"What's wr-" "Where the hell were you?" "I told you I was pick-" "You didn't tell me shit." You stared at her confusing holding her flowers against your stomach. "Sadie I told you when you were cleaning that gun of yours-" "You didn't tell me a damn thing."

You shook your head, looking away from her glaring stare. "I promise, I told you. I wouldn't have left if I didn't." "You know them damn O'Driscolls-" "Yes Sadie I know. That's why I told you. I asked you if you wanted to come and you brushed me off!" She stared at you before grabbing your upper arm, dragging you towards your shared tent. "God dammit-"

"Sadie stop it. Sadie- Sadie you're hurting me!" You ripped away from her, staring at her with scared and worry-filled eyes. "I was getting you flowers. I told you I was going. Stop being like this!" "Y/n-"

"I told you where I was going!" "You should've made sure I was listenin'. I didn't hear a damn thing you said." "Well I'm sorry, but that doesn't mean you need to be mean to me. Here, I brought you something." You threw the flowers at her, turning around and walking and storming off with tears falling down your cheeks.

Rubbing your upper arm, deciding on going back to the clearing. Sadie deciding it was better to leave you be, guilty as she watched you leave, just for a little despite the gut feeling she'd gained just a few minutes prior to the argument. Terrified it had to do with you, and then she had to watch you retreat back to the woods, aggressively wiping tears away.

But you hadn't returned in a while, and it was beginning to get dark. She anxiously sat at the fire, looking around for you every few minutes. But you hadn't come back, and the gut instinct was only getting worse. Feeling nauseous before standing up and walking over to the ladies.

"Mary Beth, hey. "Hi Sadie. What can I do you for?" "Have you seen Y/n?" They came in earlier, just for a minute but they ran off looking upset. A real shame." Sadie walked off without another word, leaving Mary Beth confused, yet she went back to reading without another word.

Sadie took off in the woods towards where you'd stomped off, feeling guilty the whole walk. Biting her lip anxiously as she finally came to the clearing before hearing something, so faint, yet so close.

With was a light whine, then a breathy wheezing moan.

"God damn it, Y/n?" She moved past some brush, finding you laying out, bleeding from your stomach. "Shit, shit, shit-" You were out cold again though, in and out, looking at her and then back to being out.

She hadn't felt that fearful since.. since the farm.

Now sitting at your side, she felt like shit. To put it bluntly.

Your breathing wasn't even, rapsy and broken. Red marks around your neck, the gang having disappeared after you muttered the words 'O'Driscoll'. But Arthur wouldn't let her leave, despite wanting rip out their throats and make them regret doing what they did.

But seeing you, knowing you'd ask for her was a feeling she couldn't shake.

You began to move, Sadie piping up as you began to open your eyes slowly. Shifting around the bed, looking around dazed and confused. Groaning in pain before meeting her eyes, a smile appearing on your lips.

"Sadie, are you okay?" "Are you really askin' me that?" She whispered, seeing you frown, you began sitting up despite the sharp pain that made you hiss, Sadie trying to get you to lay back but you wouldn't.

"Sadie..." "I shouldn't've yelled at at you. I wasn't thinking and you ran off and-" You cupped her face, giving her another little smile. "I'm okay. I'm okay hon." Sadie couldn't help the few tears that slipped by though, looking away from you but you wouldn't let her, not for long.

"I liked the flowers." She muttered, watching you grin slightly, a little laugh passing your lips making her smile. Even if it was just faint, you seen it, running your thumb over her lips.

"Besides, I've been through worse." "You shouldn't have to." "That's why I got you, you protect me enough but sometimes the world's gotta remind me that I'm not invincible. Besides, you take good care of me." "I'm sorry, I'm damn sorry honey."

You softly kissed her lips feeling her push back, then you kissed her nose. Placing your forehead against her own.

"I know, don't beat yourself up over it. You were just worried. Now, they going to kill them?" "I would've went. Made 'em wish they were never born. Damn morons." "Oh trust me, I know you would've." You both laugh quietly, Sadie blushing when you kissed her cheek before laying back on the bed.

"But I'm glad you stayed." She hummed, leaning forward to kiss your forehead. "Get some rest." "Okay, but don't leave me until I fall asleep, okay?" "Always." You hummed, grabbing her hand tight and holding it like a doll. "I love you Sades." "I love you too, now sleep."

You giggled, closing your eyes, her thumb rubbing the back of your hand the entire time until finally, she lulled you to sleep.

> his shadows adore you, of they’d always try to impress you or get head pats when you tell jin-woo to summon them for you. you live them to bits and always thanks them for a job well done in helping jin-woo with his raids. on the first time you accompanied him for a raid -you had to bribe him with more cuddles- and you were shocked with how his sweet adorable shadows turned a full 180, becoming ruthless towards the enemies. quite a show you’d say. after though, they’re back to flocking over you, even dismissing jin-woo lmao

> it may be due to his newly acquired talents and his current mental and physical prowess but he has become more perceptive towards you. he can always read you and know just what your mood is and he always tries to make you feel better by giving his whole attention to you.

> of but of course, since dear jin-woo has become quite the looker, you also notice how girls flock over to him. and especially miss hae-in (she’s very sweet yes, but hey that’s your man so like—). the moment you discovered that she left her guild to join jin-woo’s, and then confessed (well basically she did) to your man, well you were upset but really who could blame her? instead of taking your frustrations out on her and your boyfriend, you decided to just talk it out with jin-woo and ask him about how it went. the two of you cleared it out and you got kisses and maybe even more after that ;))

> you and jin-ho are menaces to society when you are together, he hates how endearing and annoying you two can be. i mean, does he really hate it? nope, he absolutely loves seeing you two interact, although his head always throbs when you two start screaming to britney, gaga, and doja.

> so extra when he tells you that he loves you. he professes it in such weird but adorable ways. one time he had printed out ‘i love you so much’ on a big-ass tarpaulin and had his shadows hold it for him while he’s kneeling down smoldering at you. you hate him so much (you don’t-). or that one time he bought a bouquet basket and had a ring tied to one of the flowers, you had to take the bouquet apart since the damn ring fell to the very bottom.

> sometimes when he gets back to the agency after his dungeon raids you and jin-ho would see him all grumpy and you immediately know that either he wasn’t able to make the enemy his soldier or his coat got ruined.

He loves it when you paint on him and you love painting on him

So it’s wonderful for all parties

You let him look through your pinterest where you have all your art references and painting inspo saved

He feels so fucking honored you’re letting him look at all of your art references

Everything that inspires you to create is right in front of him

He inspires you to create too but don’t tell him that or he’ll blush so hard he explodes

He looks through, enamored at all the images you saved

He can see exactly why you saved them too

He can see what each one will look like in your style, with the gorgeous colors you always choose

It gets him really excited

In spite of how much he wants to see how all of them would look as your paintings, you do have to start somewhere

He eventually picks a photograph of a house and backyard at night

The house is bright against the dark sky, and there are pretty flower beds here and there

The lighting is warm and there are fairy lights strung about, giving everything a hazy golden glow

The archways and balconies on the house make it look like it’s something straight out a fairytale

He’s so excited to see what you do with it

He loves the feeling of laying on the floor on his stomach while you sit on his hips, bushes running over his soft skin

It tickles a little at first, until the first layer of paint is down

God he loves this

He loves feeling your hands and the brushes kiss his skin, loves how the cool paint gradually warms up as it dries

He loves getting to participate in the astoundingly beautiful things you create

When you make little comments and mutter things to yourself

He thinks it’s the cutest thing ever

“Ugh, it won’t blend right”

“That’s what she said”

You both burst out laughing

“Stop laughing, you’re going to make me mess up!”

Once when he kept making you both laugh you had to pull out the big guns

“If you don’t stay still I’m going to paint a dick on you”

The thing is he know that would be pretty too

Everything you paint is so pretty

You painted squidward once and it actually made him tear up

One time you painted the prettiest night sky

What he didn't realize was that you had literally made constellations out of the freckles on his back

You ended up recreating it on canvas later

It's still one of your favorites

He will wait as long as he possibly can before he has to wash it off

He has a collection of polaroids of all the pretty stuff you’ve painted on him

He even has a few paintings you’ve made for him

He’s so fucking obsessed with your art

Literally

Like whenever you give him a painting he cries

It’s just so beautiful he doesn’t know what to do with himself

Even you little doodles

You random drawings of dicks and joke drawings and jason making out with a brick

They’re still so beautiful

He doesn’t think he knows much about art

Or people really

But he knows you are an amazing brilliant artist

And an amazing brilliant person

He just feels so lucky to have you in his life

Tender is the Touch

A little fluffy sickfic I wrote for the lovely @lanawinters-ily because she deserves the world <333

It was gone five when Lana finally left her office, having spent the majority of her afternoon writing up her next story. She had had a busy week, researching and interviewing and finally writing up her new exposé, but she was most excited to spend the weekend with you, unwinding in your presence after a difficult few days of work. 

After her short commute across town she turned off the engine of the car and stepped onto the path, walking up to the door as she fumbled through her bag for her keys. She retrieved them and put the key into the lock, immediately frowning when a dark silence greeted her in your place. Throughout her journey she had bene imaging you at home, what you might be doing; perhaps you were curled up in the arm chair with your current read, or in the kitchen preparing dinner. Maybe you were perched against the window ready to pounce the minute you saw her car pull up. When she entered the house, you were doing none of those things. 

“Darling?” She called out to you, placing her bag down next to the door and kicking off her heels. She flicked on the light in the hallway and walked further into the house, brow furrowed in confusion as she sought out her love. She poked her head into the lounge and upon seeing it empty, ventured into the kitchen, looking for at least a trace that you were home, close enough for her to gather her up in her arms the way she had been dreaming of all day. 

You had been much less productive with your time than she had, being inflicted with a severe headache just a few hours after she left. You had tried to push through it, moving around the house to clean it up and finish the dishes from last night, but eventually you relinquished, tumbling into bed like a deadweight as the pain blurred the day around you; minutes turning to hours and before you knew it the front door was opening. 

“Sweetie?” She called up the stairs when she began to make her way up, hoping she would find you in the bath or perhaps distracted by Netflix while you laid on the bed. When she finally reached the threshold of your bedroom, she let out a little sigh, leaning against the doorframe to observe you, nestled in the centre of the bed with a frown stained across your face. The lights were off and the curtains were drawn, indicating to her that you were having another one of your headaches. 

“Oh my little flower,” she sighed, coming to perch on the edge of the bed near your feet. She rested her hands over your legs wrapped up in the duvet, stroking your calf over the fabric. “Darling how long have you been up here, hm? She cooed, shifting closer to brush some hair away from your face. “Don’t know.” You grunted, the effort of articulating yourself already causing the pounding in your skull to intensify, making your eyes squint with the pain behind them. 

“Okay little love, I’m going to go and get you some water then I’ll be back up to stay with you, okay?” She cooed, already leaving the room to retrieve a drink and some painkillers for you. In her absence you shuffled further down into the bed, pressing your face into the pillow in an attempt to abate the pounding if you just forced it out of your head. 

You were unsuccessful however, whimpering in pain when Lana had returned and helped you to sit up in the bed so you could drink and swallow the pills. “Good girl,” she mumbled, kissing the side of your head, “now will you eat something for me? She pleaded, having brought up a sliced apple, knowing that when you felt unwell it was one of the only things you could stomach. 

You whined at that, shuffling to lay your head on her chest but you nodded against her, opening your mouth when she held a piece to your lips, letting you chew it slowly as you made your way through the fruit. 

When you were finished, she got up to wash her hands and got changed, throwing you gentle smiles each time she caught sight of you watching her every move as she floated around the room, taking out her hair pins and hanging up her blazer, brushing through her curls and changing into her pyjamas. 

“Time to lay down, baby love. I’m not going anywhere.” She whispered as she pulled back the duvet and slid in next to you, immediately opening out her arm for you to lay on her chest; she had picked up on how easily you fell asleep whenever you could hear her heartbeat, and your cheeks flushed when you realised just how well she knew you. 

“I love you darling, did you remember that while I was gone?” She spoke into your hair, referring to her constant need to tell you whenever she was in your presence. “I love you too, Lana,” you hummed, closing your eyes as your pain began to subside. Your journalist brought up a hand to run through your hair, smiling lightly at the way you groaned slightly at the relief she brought with her touch. “Close your eyes, now, I’m here.” She cooed, pressing featherlight kisses to your hairline. 

Although the last thing Lana wanted was to come home to you in pain, she couldn’t deny that she was grateful for the opportunity to slow down for a moment, to simply just be with her love, her little angel. She would never voice it, knowing you were worse off right now, but she had been in need of comfort today; she had been picturing your arms wrapped up with hers all day, and despite the circumstances, she felt her heart flutter at the weight of your head on her chest and the tickle of your breath against her skin. Her reminder that you were here and you were hers, forever and always.
