Day 12 // s n a c c: natto // #augustproductivitychallenge

My favorite snack is natto because gooey fermented soybeans = very good 🌱 They can go on rice, salads, spaghetti, in a sushi roll, or directly out of the container. I am a little bit biased because I've been conditioned at birth (and in the womb) to eat this for the rest of my life, but this tastes pretty gross for some people. You have to add soy sauce, wasabi, and sometimes chives if you want to enhance the taste.

Long story short:

Benefits: Slurp

Drawbacks: May be funky smelling

Ok, since this is a STUDY account, I claim this as the ultimate dorm food. I do not live in a dorm (therefore, the argument goes down without much ethos), BUT given the fact that the soybeans come in packs and takes like 5 seconds to make, this is TOP productivity food. You can add this your choice of eggs for more protein (I know traditionally a RAW egg goes nice with natto and rice but 💃 salmonella 💃 risks 💃 in 💃 my 💃 country 💃). Adding this to tofu is cool too if you would rather have tofu. Have MORE soybeans on the soybean cakes. You slurp and then get back to class. Or study. Or lie on the ground.

Fun facts: I tried to ferment soybeans manually for a biology project back in 10th grade.

Fun fact 2: I'm generally weak to average with it comes to spicy foods (I die when I eat shicuan chili oil), but I have been gifted with the ability to eat wasabi without killing my nose 😤

Out of the two main cities I visited in China: Chengdu and Qionglai place a large emphasis on recycling. The school which my counterpart attends and I visited had tons of recycling bins all over campus. Walking along the street there were recycling bins and trash cans next to eachother everywhere. The city initiates recycling and has a famous irrigation system the Dujiangyan Irrigational System present whithin the Shicuan province. It was constructed around 256 BC by the State of Qin as an irrigation and flood control project, it is still in use today. The Chinese have always focused on sustainability ever since 256 BC
