Le système rituel qu’incarne l’aikidō peut se réduire à trois aspects inédits trouvant leur origine dans les théories shintō d’Ōmoto : la sacralité du corps, l’efficace de la voix et la prévalence de l’esprit sur le geste.

It feels good & weird to be back in Dojo. My absences weigh on me. I try to just accept them & move forward. I can still help guide & teach somewhat. Helping my kohai, understand the ‘flow’ of the technique, which both guides ukemi as well as counter-techniques.
During a hamni-handachi shiho-nage practise, I completely forgot how to take the fall. I landed on my shoulder, my head, my shoulder, rinse repeat. Finally I managed to move properly & realise I needed to move a leg into position to transition the weight, then tada! Fixed! But damn, it took me way too long.
too long. Probably a symptom of my impatience.
My senpai told me to be patient with myself, he’s not wrong. I miss being a part of that “Flow” of technique. We went through some Jiyu-waza, it was pretty fun and a reminder to centre myself & breathe. I managed to hold out well on that, 3vs1.
I’m not ready for the seminar this weeknd approaching, but I will be better than I am now. Walking a few days to help get my basic fitness back up in small increments. I will be better.
Sensei had us drilling tsuki shiho nage till the cows came home, using two different footworks - one, stepping back, another, stepping forward and off the line. We also did a small bit of tsuki yonkyo, and a smaller bit of ushiro katatedori irimi nage.
Surprise combo of the night: a double attack, katatedori to yokomen uchi. Response: uchi tenkan (with an atemi so as to keep a good maai), leaving the grabbed hand in a perfect position to take nikyo.
After class, I spoke with Sensei about my readiness for testing. Turns out, there are two second-dan candidates he is preparing for the fall seminar, meaning a full plate. But, I'm in the queue.

Not a big class today, but we got a new student who has had a little training in the past, so that was fun to work with. Lots of basics and lots of assessing how far along he is in training.
Also, I got to sweat pleasantly with a little rolling. Obviously, I need more of that.
Training:
1730-1830: Beginner Class
Newaza randori; ukemi; yawara: katate hazushi ichi through momiji hazushi; nage: osoto gari from tachi, ko mata, o mata, and kata forms.
1830-1930: Advanced class
Shime: eri gatame, kata gatame through ni position, shiho gatame, juji gatame to kote shime, sankaku gatame, and ushiro gatame

Shiho Nage is also an effective move for Studio Cameras when you have to change directions quickly and move into a new spot. #AikidoAppliedToRealLife
Final regular practice night at my second dojo yesterday. It was packed, everyone was in great form and high spirits. The handful of non-Japanese in the room exchanged a couple of “Merry Christmas” -- and I was like “Yes! I got to come tonight, best Christmas gift my husband could give me.”
I ended up rolling with all sorts of people, including that American guy (former Marine) who practices twice a day and just graduated to 1st kyu in December. He’s not a bad guy but I’m not 100% at ease around him for reasons I can’t define.
We did ryote dori tenchi nage, and it was my personal pleasure to see him frown and hear him grumble “hey, but you throw just like a man” after I threw him down the first time. Oh, are we *really* doing this? I gave him my “sorry, but not sorry” smirk and went even harder just because. Please stop expecting people to be/act based on their looks, thanks! I’m pretty sure other guys I roll with *think* the same, but politeness keeps them from saying it to my face, and they will simply increase their strength level the second time around.
On ryote dori shiho nage (fluid version), I rolled with a kohai who felt bad and kept apologizing because he had no idea how to move in a non-static form. Unfortunately I *suck* big time at explaining anything in mirror form, in Japanese, and while I can do that one, it’s far from perfect. So I ended up asking our GM, flustering the kohai even more -- but he was so happy when he got finally the gist of it.
But then the unexpected happened: our GM asked me to roll with him on this one, not only as uke but also as nage. Because he’s got terrible bad knees (and he’s 75), usually he checks if we do it properly and makes us stop before we throw him down. But this time, it was a real roll, and we went all the way each time. I felt soooo self-conscious, because whenever our GM rolls/shows/explains, everyone on the mats stops, kneels and watches.
There will be special classes on the 29th, 30th and Jan. 2 for end-of-year/first trainings of the year, regrouping all our dojos. I’ll be definitely going on the 29th and 2nd -- it’s already hard enough to be down to 2 sessions per week... and there is that extra amount of calories to burn, you know?
