GlenGarioch 1991 27 year old Cask#2920 Beery Bros & Rudd for Shinanoya.

Really good stuff of GlenGarioch 1991. Bold peat smoke and coffee liquor, burnt malty with dried woodiness aroma. No perfume fragrance. With smooth mouthfeel, creamy malty sweet and stewed dry fruits flavor. Elegant smoky finish then dry soil and much cream, jelly fruits remains shortly.

Karuizawa 31 1981/2012 #4961 Shi 5th Anniversary (60,0 %)

Karuizawa trenger antagelig ingen introduksjon – her er det snakk om svindyr japansk single malt fra et legendarisk, nedlagt destilleri. Noe ganske annet enn dagens mange japansk-skotske blends som «seiler under falskt flagg», altså. Dette er en 31 år gammel tapning for Shinanoya i Tokyo, en vin- og spritforhandler – de har flere whiskytapninger spesielt for dem, og denne tapningen kom som en markering av femårsjubileet for deres Private Cask-serie. Den ble destillert i 1981 og tappet i 2012 fra en bourbon barrel som ga 228 flasker.

På nesen: nøtter, litt kirsebær, kamfer, sjokolade, toffee, litt appelsinlikør, kanel og sedertre. Smaken var preget av trebitterhet, vanilje, appelsin, litt anis og aske, og et hint av røyk. Avslutningen var lang, med trebitterhet, litt røyk, vanilje og toffee. Tørker fort ut, antagelig pga. alkoholstyrken. Med vann kom det til mer vanilje på nesen, kvae og blomster. Smaken fikk tilført litt urter, toffee, sitron, appelsin, vanilje og nøtter. Fyldigere. Avslutningen ble lengre, med toffee og vanilje.

En svært kompleks whisky, og temmelig intens – her var det nødvendig med både vann og noe tid i glasset for å «temme» den. Et godt eksempel på at også Karuizawa som ikke har ligget på sherryfat kan være særdeles bra, etter min mening.

Karakter: 91/100

I would withhold detailed comment as enjoyed conversation with drinking. Eye-opener short aging England whisky, syrupy malty with gooey fruits such as peach, pineapple.
